Recently i am seeing a small difference on the back on my Moto x 2014.... Phone is about 7 months old.
a very minor swelling/bulge of a sort and no i don't overcharge my phone.. ever...
So i was planning on going to the service center in my city. [Pune, India] [ Anyone in India with similar experience would be a plus ]
Anyone have any experience with this sort of thing
and
if or what solutions do the Motorola people offer if it is an actual issue [hopefully not my minor OCD]
Any help would b appreciated. :good:
Just in case anyone is following this thread.
Update: I got it checked at an Authorised Service Centre here. Yes it has a bulge which was fairly noticeable if ur looking for it. Apparently the moto guy said, all X Series i.e. meaning moto x 1st gen and 2nd gen have the back cover stuck and not a latched type back panel like Moto G, E , etc...
They will pry it open which will certainly cause a bit of damage and check the battery, also replace it if necessary. Also the motherboard will be checked apparently. Free of cost as its under moto warranty, obviously.
Reasons mentioned to me by Moto: Overheating, although I never overcharge it. So I'm clueless as to how...
I'll keep the thread updated on the issue, my device will be given to them on Monday/Tuesday for diagnostics.
Hoping for the best here

A small quick update on the matter
The moto service centre has ordered "parts" and "will take time to come"
so i have not given my moto yet but will be taking it for diagnostics tomorrow to figure out whats the deal... with this bulge... :crying:
The Issue here is.... in India... the whole damn system is SLOW
sigh...
more updates to come tomorrow itself...
Well this is the final update:
I got it checked, saw with my own eyes the insides of my moto X 2014, a fine work of craftsmanship n design by moto on the inside too...
Anyway, the battery has not bulged...
The bulge present resulted only because moto X has the back panel stuck and not like a latch system like moto g or most mobiles for that matter.
So yes, to sum up, it was my paranoia
But at least now I know and if Anyone is interested or having any similar issue, u also know now
Have a good day XDA

So I'm a Galaxy Nexus (Verizon) user and looking to get a new phone. I'm looking at getting a Moto X and I have a few questions about it. Mainly in regards to rooting and getting cyanogenmod up and running on it. I don't mind using its stock rom as it seems rather close to stock android, but I'm curious as to how hard is it to root a Moto X on Verizon and getting cyanogenmod on it and keep the special features like the shake to unlock the camera and the voice commands. Also how is the battery on the device (I normally stick to 3G and maybe web surf a bit and look at my RSS feeds through the day not a lot of really data intense apps.) Thanks.
I just got my Moto X a few days ago and found that I enjoyed the experience so much on it that I decided not to root. I have been rooting my phones for a few years and finally found a stock experience that I enjoy.
I don't see a reason why you would want to lose the amazing features that Moto X offers by switching to CM.
You can root the phone (there are guides around the forums for this) and add Xposed modules to modify some parts of the phone, however, any OTA updates will cause some headaches. With 4.4 around the corner for the Moto X I am going to hold off rooting for a while and enjoy what Motorola gave to us.

I'm also a long time rooter/CM kinda guy, galaxy nexus, GS3 etc etc, and I can honestly say that the only reason I would root this thing would be to change the battery icon (aaagh I hate it so much)
But this phone is so so good out of the box, it's just not worth wasting effort trying...although it would be nice to drop a new kernel on it.
Best phone I've had so far.

I will eventually root this thing... someday. I would also like a new kernel and I want to have Greenify back and some small customization options, but for now I am going to enjoy not troubleshooting some sort of issue that comes as a side effect of rooting.
I I just switched to the Moto X from the gnex on Sprint. I am very happy with my decision. The battery life is an enormous improvement over the gnex. I have always rooted my devices and installed custom roms, but I am yet to do so on the Moto X. It has a great stock set up. I will likely root once 4.4 is avaliable, but only to get rid of the sprint crap.

That's great to hear about the battery and stock ROM. Has anyone used the Motomaker site yet (Mainly this goes out to AT&T owners). I'd like to get mine through that when it opens up for most carriers on the 11th. But I'm curious exactly how does the process goes with activation and such. And I just noticed Verizon only offers the 16gig model is there anyway to get a 32gig model with big red.

Moto Maker allows an option for 32gb, so you could wait for that on Verizon, or the Developer Edition is 32gb but you have to pay $549 for it.

We're hoping when Verizon gets Moto maker access 32gb will be an option. Right now you can get a 32gb developer version but you'll have to pay full price, ($550) and is only available in a weird white /black combo.

Moto maker is a breeze... You do everything through the website, new line, upgrade or off contact. Much easier than I had anticipated.

Came from a galaxy "nexus" to the X and love it. I finally did root it and have played with Xposed a bit, and I will probably never flash a rom again. Xposed let's me change all of the things that I cared about on AOKP like having a torch toggle in QS, and statusbar/navbar transparency. To be honest, if I didn't want to enable native tether privileges (still unlimited here), I wouldn't be rooted.

I LOVE HTC but I had the one for five weeks and at least 1 out of 4 calls were dropped randomly or my cheek would hang up the call. I loved the look of the one and thought sense 5 was the best sense yet. However due to the dropped calls the phone just did not work for me.
I have talked to others that returned the phone for the same reason
I wouldn't use the HTC one either. The sense UI is rather sluggish (I've used in the past before - HTC incredible and I've used the demo of the HTC one they had the verizon store and it was the same slowness), Not at all a fan of beats by dre/monster cables. And the button layout is kinda eh. Used to having 4 icons at the bottom with the main menu button being near the center.

Question for the group... Will rooting alone allow you to install CM? Is CM available to be flashed via safestrap?
I ask because -> http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/1...cyanogenmod-10-2-experimental-nightly-builds/ and -> http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Xt1060_Info seem to indicate its for Unlocked bootloader or Developer Edition. And since there is no way yet to unlock the non-Dev Edition's boot loader, it further appears its really for Dev Ed only. And all the roms that aren't a leak from Moto in the Developer sections here also state you need a Developer Edition X or Unlocked boot loader.
Vergil117, as far as rooting, JCASE has released ways to root the initial shipping rom version, and the OTA update for the camera fix. So that is easy enough. I have rooted mine, just to tether (I still have unlimited). As with other devices, if you don't have an unlocked boot loader, rooting after new ROM updates are pushed is uncertain.
Like most have posted, I think the X in its stock form is very nice, and I don't find a need to flash a alternate ROM. If you flash to CM, you'll loose the Moto customization like touch-less control, shake for camera, etc.
So I ordered a moto X through the Motomaker software on monday night. It still says est delivery by the 15 but it also says it hasn't shipped. Kinda worried.

Same, I got to step 2 on Tuesday morning and that's been it so far. I'm hopeful we'll get our shipping notifications soon so we can get our phones before the weekend. But I know Moto probably got slammed with a bunch of orders on Monday so some of us may have to wait till next week...
Update to the shipping post. I got the fedex info and it should be here Friday yay.
Motorola's update system is way behind. When I ordered mine, over a month ago, It didn't say shipped until the morning it arrived and I didn't get a tracking number until an hour or so after I had already received the device.
But it arrived the day they said it would... I'd rather the info be late instead of the phone
Moto X rocking 4.4
Oh I know the feeling, Fedex was being lazy yesterday with my order. I live in a gated apartment building, the main lobby is like right next to the door to the building. I honestly think they saw the door and said oh no one here and went away. So I had to call them and tell them to drop it off at a fedex store.
It looks like there is a little piece of foam sliding down over the lens of my front camera. This happening to anyone else? It still takes pictures fine, or seems to. I'm not sure if they are a little bit darker then they should be due to the obstruction. I looked at the moto x teardown pictures on ifixit and there is a little piece of foam around the camera that I think has come dislodged on mine. I'm a little worried about trying to remove the back and fix this myself. Whenever I take phones apart I always scratch or otherwise dent the plastic somewhere. And then there is all the adhesive on the battery to deal with. Hmmm.
Still under warranty?

Interesting, my MM Moto X is doing something similar. it hasn't slid down as far as what you all are seeing, but it has moved since I've received it. Doesn't affect images at all, and maybe even helps with light flares and stuff.

Guitar pick, ifixit teardown video and be careful with the adhesive on the NFC. Then move the foam and put the cover back on. The back is so easy to swap on this phone.

I have the same exact issue. I purchased the phone in November and didn't notice the issue until about a month later. About a week ago I decided to try my luck and see if there was anything Moto would do. I chatted with a rep online and he said it would be covered under manufacture defect and started the return process. I just have to return the old phone once I receive the new one. So if you don't want to risk your warranty or anything just call them up and see if they will work with you.

Same here. Motorola sent me a code to build a new phone and just need to return this one after I receive the replacement. They had no issue processing the exchange so they must be aware of the issue.

Mine is coming down too (from the top of the camera). My first Moto X had a misaligned (crooked) screen and also a front camera that was offset to the left a lot.
It's not affecting the camera yet. I have a feeling it will eventually though.
I can get an unlocked Moto X from someone on craigslist. They bought it from amazon in May and are willing to provide the receipt.
I currently have a LG G2 but the battery has become defective. It happened the first time I got the phone but I chalked it up to a fluke. Then it started happening more and more as time went on, but it was infrequent. But now it's happening daily and at the point where it will lose charge nonstop during the day and if I don't touch it I'll be lucky that it will make it by the time I get home at night. There is NO wakelock, my phone sleeps very well. GSAM and Wakelock detector and BBS cannot find any reason why this is happening. I've tried numerous factory resets and have very few apps on the phone, disabling a lot of the carrier bloatware. This is definitely a hardware issue.
So I know that the Moto X+1 is going to unveiled on Sep 4 but who knows when it'll actually go on sale, or worth the new phone sticker price at this point.
So what do you guys think? Should I go ahead and get this Moto X if it's in good condition? I'm really torn at this point because my phone has become so unreliable. Sometimes I'll go to bed with it at 100% and it will drain during the night to 0 and I've missed my alarms in the morning to wake up even.
Why don't you replace the battery ? Moto X+1 should be good

These are AT&T's requirements:
1. Does the device power on and off?
Yes No
2. Is the screen intact, free of any chips or cracks, and functioning correctly? Loading
Yes No
3. Is the body of the device free of breaks or cracks in the housing, keypad, hinge, or battery cover?
Yes No
4. Is battery included?
Yes No
5. Has the Activation Lock been disabled? (e.g., Find My iPhone, kill switch)
So my phone meets all of these I think.
If you can get Moto X in exchange without spending anything then go for it. Except camera I like everything about the phone.

Yes, but how long you had it? Exchange or return is usually a limited time. After you have to deal with the manufacturer. And obviously they will only fix or exchange. Not refund or give a different phone maker.
I'd look into it anyway.
I guess the Sprint (CDMA) versions have the lowest sale/resale value. Got a mint condition X1056 off CList for $120 sometime ago. Battery life and having only 16GB built in are my only dings against the Moto X. Nice little fella.

Go to the battery thread in general and troubleshoot your battery issues. The X can have good to great battery life.... Depending on your usage, setup and signal. And if you have issues or not.
No one should be saying battery life is poor. That only means they haven't taken the time to figure out why theirs is poor. ?

Already done/tried everything and came to the conclusion that battery is poor compared to other comparable devices i've owned. Sorry, but it is what what it is. The Moto X doesn't have good battery life in my opinion. Everything else is fine, even the camera that others complain about, i have no issues with.
I have screen shots in the Battery thread... Many.... From 6 to near 8 hours screen time... Over a 24 hour total drain. Many others do too.
Perhaps it's your usage or setup.... But it's poor for you either way. But "the moto x" in general, has outstanding battery life for the size of the battery. Which is smaller than many other devices. ?
But, you say you've done all you can.... Then I'm sorry to hear it's bad for you. I'm betting I can tell you exactly why it's bad for you if you provide info and screenshots from gsam. But not here, in the Battery thread. Your choice. ?
Sorry for the off topic.

Sorry Mr. Extreme number 1 fan of the Moto X (it seems), but you're not going to convince me otherwise of my own experience. The Moto X gets bad battery life in what i have experienced. It's not the end of the world and i don't see why you're getting such a hard up on this issue. I am but one person (amongst others i know also feel the same way) who has a differing experience, let it go. It's almost as if no one can have a different opinion/experience in your world.

What model X? is it the XT1053, XT1058 (att), XT1058(other carrier), XT1060(verizon), etc?
Is it SIM Unlocked or bootloader unlocked? If bootloader, Ask for proof of bootloader unlock.. (screen shot of fasbootAP screen showing Unlocked Status 3).
Remember, you will have no warranty on the phone, either way. At least per Moto's documents, it says warranty is non-transferable.
Are you sure the IMEI is clean/clear? Have you checked/verified with the carrier?
If its clean/clear and bootloader unlocked, that is not a bad price. But the cost of an X might dip when the X+1 gets announced.. If that happens, its almost worth waiting and getting one that is brand new with a warranty. Unless you are planning to get a non-dev and unlock the bootloader and root (which voids the warranty anyway)
So I joined the I cracked my phone club today. I dropped my moto x and it cracked at the top left, I'm not stupid, I was just suffering from a migraine when it happened (and anybody who's had a migraine feels my pain). Regardless of my body punishing me, I was looking to get my phone repaired. So I looked up how much it would cost and I saw a $145 price tag. I was planning on buying the moto x pure anyway, when the moto z came out, so I want to know what you guys think. Do you think I should get the phone repaired or by the moto x pure. I assume the moto x pure's price will drop when the moto z comes out, do you guys agree with me?
Thanks in advance,

Just picked up an XT1064 (the Consumer Cellular version) and it has the traditional black back cover on it and I'm a fan of yellow and black so, I spent the past 2 hours trying to track down one of the OEM "lemon-lime" back covers for the Moto G 2nd gen model and was unsuccessful. Seems crazy that they'd just disappear from the face of the earth but whatever so...
If anyone out there happens to have an actual Motorola OEM Lemon-Lime back cover for the Moto G 2nd gen XT1064 I'd be interested in acquiring it from you given the price isn't too crazy insane or if anyone can point me in the direction of actually locating one online from a reseller that would be awesome as well. I tried dozens of online sources and got nowhere, not even eBay has it in any of a dozen countries I checked against. Not sure why they're so hard to find but I suppose they just weren't all that popular.
Yes I realize there are other companies making yellow or similar replacement back covers but I always prefer to get the OEM hardware above cheap knockoff products. I don't intend to use a case on this phone, hence me just wanting the lemon-lime factory back cover.
Admins/Mods: if this post isn't allowed then by all means delete it as required.
Thanks for any help in tracking one of these back covers down, happy holidays to all...

Already got rid of the Moto G 2nd gen, got a 3rd gen now and of course in looking for the yellow shell for this phone it's out of stock everywhere as well. I've never seen anyone using a yellow shell except me on any Moto phone and yet I can't find 'em anywhere, that's just weird.
Anyway, can't find one for the Droid Turbo 2 I have either, guess I'll just give up and live with things the way they are.
Actually I have one. Bought 2 years ago at ebay.co.uk.
Green and yellow isn't the best color. In few weeks it became dirty with a lot of dust on the inside.
So I stopped use it.
Oh, and it makes the phone bulkier than stock one.
