Hi all !
I have my Xperia Z3 compact since 6 month, and i used it a lot in shower, i noticed recently that i had some condensation inside the camera, and that the humidity sensor located near the usb port flaps turned pink....
The problem is that i always took care of the flaps being closed, and i was always under the IP conditions ( no detergent, no high pressure, etc).
I checked the flaps, sealing seems completly untampered....
So, i want to send it back under warranty.. but i'm afraid it will come back with "you used it in wrong way, see, the sensor became pink...."
Any advice ?
Thanks

I had this problem, except I was only using in the rain, you can get the water out without sending it away (Using a hair dryer / airtight bag of rice) It seems like a lot of Xperia Z3C's are faulty in the "Water Proof flaps" part of the phone. If you send it away Son'y will do a pressure test to see whether it is their fault or yours, if you are certain that the flaps where entirely closed then give it a shot - it should be covered under warranty if you have it.
thanks for the reply man,
i have tried the pressure test (in hidden menu) , with flaps closed, when i squeeze the phone, the pressure rise, but go back to normal after a second, even if i keep squezzing it, does this mean the waterproofing is defective ?

According to some other threads the pressure should stay up when you press the screen in, meaning that the device is holding the pressure with no leaks, so most likely, yes it is defective. You can try send it in for warranty, as the pressure test that Sony does is basically the same but they use more advanced testing methods.

If you open up the sim card flap which is at the bottom flap (or the right flap if it is laying flat), there is a little square at the very right/bottom and it will either have a white square of paper or a pink/red square of paper inside that little square (the paper will be red / pink if it has been activated by water)

Thank you so much - I always wondered what that white square was for. I mistook it for the reset button originally, but that one is yellow.

Hi !
I'm kinda spooked about not getting my water sensor triggered when listening to music and it's raining . Does anyone know if the water sensor is also sensible to other things , like glue or something ? I was thinking to cover up that part with some scotch tape . Any other methods ?

Might pay to change your question,
The water resistance flaps that trigger the water resistance warning. Only once you uplug a device that was connected.
It is not a sensor as much as a hardware triggered event that the hardware was removed therefore a reminder that the flaps will still be open.
To prove this theory you can open and close the flaps all day and will not get any warning, the moment you remove the sdcard, headphones, charger the event will be triggered.
I don't understand what you are trying to ask, exactly.
as ojstagg pointed , under the flaps there are small white pieces of reactive paper . if they are touched by humidity or water , they get red => no more warranty . it's kinda stupid that they placed it NEAR the headphone jack and not inside...
Basically the sensors are there only to void warranty if the phone has water damage due to flaps being open at the time.
I have been using the xperia z with the headphone flap open in the rain, and the white strip is still white. I think colour would only change when submerged in water after a certain amount of time.
it's not a Tampax.
I think the sensor actually needs to soak in water for a certain period before it changes colour, however Iam not about to prove this theory.
Hoped I helped you to be at ease when listening to music in the rain................... I haven't have I?
Best thing for xperia z owners to do, is buy the Sony charging dock and that new Sony headphone Bluetooth thing. That way we would hardly ever need to open these flaps again.
If only they were f*****g available,

I don't think so . at least my old iphone 3gs got a drop of water on the sensor and bang , got red. Though you might be right ... and I could be another type of sensor :-s
Dock and Bluetooth headset is the only way.

Maybe you could ask the dude, that got drunk and was showing off his phone to his mates that forgot to put the flaps closed before dunking the phone
I also thought that.
My post Headphone water damage sensor
I know you've seen it but just an update that I'm currently using a small bit of tape to cover it that can be easily removed. I use my headphones a lot and all I needed was one drop of rain to land on it an there goes the warranty.
ok so the tape didn't interact with the white paper , right ? cool i'll cover it too then

nothing to do by yourself
if u r sure all ports were closed underwater just take it to official service for replacement.

Hey OP, I had the same problem after water damage. Just keep using your phone like normal, it'll start turning white/negative less often, and after 3 weeks or so, your phone will be back to normal!

Water damage isn't covered in the warranty, and it's expensive to repair. When my phone got water damaged (happened less than 48 hours after I got it), I put it in a bag of rice with the 2 smaller flaps open for a few days. That didn't help at all, so I decided to leave it in my cupboard with all the flaps open for a day or two. Surprisingly, this took care of all the visible condensation. I charged my phone after this, and there seemed to be no problem. I continued to use the phone like nothing happened, and I kept using it even while the screen was white.
I've had my Xperia Z for almost a month now, and the white screen issue is entirely gone. I also had other problems like condensation in the camera, a malfunctioning proximity sensor, and an external speaker that didn't work. These problems are gone too.
The only signs of damage left on my phone are condensation in the flash and a little silver blob below my screen (no clue what this is, but it doesn't seem to affect the phone).
I'd say leave your phone somewhere airy with ALL of the flaps open for a couple of days, and then try charging it. DO NOT USE A BLOW DRYER OR A VACUUM TO TRY TO REMOVE WATER, AS THIS WILL RESULT IN HEAT/STATIC DAMAGE.
By the way, how many of your water ingress indicators have gone red?

there 1 indicator have gone red, at charge port, but i really sure i've closed it before i brought it in to the water...
so if there is technical error when installation the port, are the warranty still valid ?
i just put my xperia in my bedroom and left with the ports opened, i hope the water inside my lcd can evaporate. I've the same problem with you, there are some silver blob below in my screen too, look like water behind the lcd. almost a week i never charge my phone, i'm afraid there will be shorting inside. so can i charge my xperia now ?

Yeah, but your iPod isn't held together by a heat-sensitive adhesive. The Xperia Z is. So that's not exactly the best idea...

Hey, don't mention it
Wow, that's funny. It's the same exact water indicator that's turned red on my phone.
The flaps on your phone could be faulty, and if they are, you are still under warranty. Next to your headphone flap, there is actually a Waterproof Test Hole, which Sony Service Centers use to test if your phone's waterproof capabilities are okay. The test hole can't be seen as there is a piece of plastic that covers it.
The thing is that it's more than likely that your phone will pass the waterproof test, and that your flaps came loose underwater when you were taking the video (pretty sure this is what happened to me as well).
Oh, and I can confirm that the silver blob is not water, but actually some sort of corrosion. It happened to my previous phone as well, and when I took it apart there was no water at in it at all.
Go ahead and charge it, you've got nothing to lose. Your warranty is void, and it's not like your phone will work without charge. Good luck!

Hi,
I didn't test ZR Earlier. In my first test(under running Tap water) which was for just half of min. After this when i open back panel i see there are 3 drop of water at top (which of course came from Camera) . As i love this phone and don't want to loose it for water test i didn't test further.
If this is normal? any one done water test? also water damage is under warranty?

water damage is not under warranty,
it is normal that water goes into camera side or speakers , but it shouldn't or behind the flaps (usb cover and audio jack cover), also it's very important that water shouldn't go into battery section, where there's protectors, other was going water behind the back door is normal but in battery section is not.
there's an white paper indicator that indicate whether water goes into battery section or not, it is in the bottom of your battery when you pull battery you can see it behind the bottom of the battery! (not sure how to describe it) if it turn red it means that your device got some water inside, which will void your warranty too, if it is white then everything will be ok and you still have your warranty, there's an exact of these papers in behind of the audio jack and usb section which you can't see it unless you open it
Thanks..it is very usefull info..i wonder from where u find it.
I can see white paper benlow battery ...

You could've read the mini manual before doing that. It is stated there that after using the device underwater, do not open the back cover cause the water outside the sealed section might get in the battery section which could destroy your phone. You must let the water inside dry for about 3-4 hours I think
From My Dragon Breathing Fire Underwater - C5503/XDA-App
The same thing happened to my beloved phone, We went night swimming by the pool and there i tested my phone's underwater abilities it worked good under water i tested it for about 2 minutes afterwards i wrapped it in a cloth to dry it out. Removing the backplate did not cross my mind until I woke up in the morning, So i turned it off then removed the backplate I was shocked as everything aside from what's inside the rubber was wet. reading comments from good people in this thread made me feel at ease i also checked the mini manual and it says that exact thing that they talked about in here. Many thanks to you guys, so i should consider those areas outside the rubber as "safe wet". Now it's kind of dicey to use this phone underwater.
Hey guys, i saw a thread with presure test that's possible on my Sony z3 compact. But unfortunately, i tried it and the value doesn't change and stays at 965,30.

well if it doesn't move, then usually that means it's compromised somehow. maybe your flags aren't closed correctly.
They are... Is the pressure test a proof for the store? Do you have any experiences with that?
Thanks
not really. but i think they perform it during warranty/service to check.
My Z3 does show a higher value but drops slowly after that. so i guessed there was a leak. I held it under water and no leak. But when i pressed on the device there were coming bubble out of the wristband holder on the bottom left of the device. Not the screens but really the hole itself.
Im not sure if its a leak or its some sort of pressure regulator that makes sure that not to many pressure gets on the Phone when the air inside is heated up.
it's the latter.
If the case was 100% air-tight the barometer would not work. There is probably a membrane/valve to adjust to pressure changes. This is the same on all Z3 and Z3c devices. That is also why the pressure drops.

Make sure the USB/SD and SIM covers are firmly closed. The pressure test on my phone didn't work until I pressed those two firmly closed and then it worked -- pressure increases 1-2mb briefly then drops back to (or below) original value. That's why I plan to use a magnetic charger... those covers are clearly a weak point and could prove to be the death of the phone if it's dunked

My camera lens looks like there are some sort of bubbles or something under the glass. It doesn't affect the camera, because they're not in the field of view of the lens, but I've noticed these spots keep appearing, so they should eventually reach the center and ruin my images. Should I get this repaired or is this normal behavior?

It's not dust. I cleaned the lens before taking a picture, what you see is under the glass.
looks like condensation.
Try out the pressure test and look if your phone is still waterproof. Anyway i would send it in if you live in a country with reliable consumer protection laws and good warranty.

Yep you have gotten water into your phone, this happened to me 3 days after purchase of my Z3C. Open up the sim card flap (bottom left) and look in the little hole in the bottom, there should be a white square, this is the water sensor. If you have gotten water in your phone that white square will be a red / pink color.
Do a pressure test like 2mal16 said.
If you do not want to send it in for warranty you can get rid of the water using rice and a hair dryer - turn off the phone, open all the flaps and bury the phone in rice, in an air tight bag or container, leave the bag / container in the sun for at least 1 day and that should clear it. (depending on where you live 2-3 days might be better)
Next you can try opening the flaps (phone off) and holding the phone so that the open flaps are facing downwards (left side of the phone is facing down) and get a blow dryer / hair dryer and wave it up and down the top of the phone, where the camera is (this will heat the water and should make it come out of the flaps)
