I heard a commercial about FM chips in all smart phones, but the carriers don't activate them. Is this something that's possible with a custom ROM or root? Not a big deal, really curious though.

Oops, absolutely my bad. You're 100% correct. I was confusing tunein with another FM based app I had tried when this discussion occurred a while ago.

Nah, I subscribe to Google play music. I don't listen to the radio but maybe when I drive 5 minutes down the road and can t be bothered to take out my phone and turn on Bluetooth. Was just curious as I heard a commercial on the radio talking about corporations keeping the fm tuner off on your phone.

Only if you stream it from an internet broadcast via WAN or GPRS.

What is this XDA Developers or XDA Users? It should be able to write a radio app that gets the radio signal from the device.........
I actually made a program that lowered the frequency the phone is receiving, but due to its digital nature, I only get DAB radio.

The most simple answer is : go to buy a FM/mp3 player with bluetooth enabled and pair it with your O2 XDA mini-S.
This is what i am doing with my Asus.
Why dont you buy a nokia HS 12W bluetooth handsfree it has FM in it and works with the mini s ?
fm radio
you also might consider to buy the htc P3300.
it has fm-radio on board as well as gps
fm radio
this is probably useless and off topic but i did come across this fm tuner application for the Eten G500 described here
http://msmobiles.com/news.php/5193.html
Obviously is useless on my GPS free Prophet, but i did wonder (probably stupidly) whether it might work on a HTC with built in GPS??
I think it can be downloaded from here
http://www.eten-users.net/index.php?showtopic=2634&st=15
fm radio
though on checking that link don't think you can download the file anymore
so instead i've attached it below

at least, i think i have......
be interested to see if anyone can get this working

Well, perhaps not 100%, but (and forgive me for being a little ignorant) if you can activate GPS (as is being discussed on the Hermes forum) then would that mean you could also receive RDS?? sorry for the basic lesson needed....

cause the Hermes has a GPS capable Qualcomm chipset (though it's not evident whether it has a proper antenna) but the Wizard doesn't have either that or a FM tuner...

The LG apps rely very heavily on the LG framework, so the simple answer is 'no'. There are plenty of FM Radio apps on the Play Store though, so you should just try some of them.

Cyanogen have started to add support for FM Radio, but it is unlikely to work on our device. If you follow their G+ page you will see that it is dependant on the chipset in the device and they currently have it working on Sony devices because Sony support the Dev community and have helped them to get it working.
This is one of those features that, if it really bothers you so much, means you are likely to have to always remain on Stock ROMs.

They don't seem to work for "Wired" audio either, as far as I can tell. Was just searching for this topic and so far haven't found much. Seems odd that no one has commented on this yet.
Edit: Nevermind, I guess they just don't work with Pandora.

Great!
Now I have a crazy idea: Make an Xposed Module has uses this SDK for hooking any of your installed Apps and make it compatible with AA.
This will be the holy grail! :fingers-crossed:

AA uses a "video" stream for sending the screen data to the HU. This option (and the new 1080p) it's only for forcing the resolution. Stock size is 640p, and enhanced sizes are 720p & 1080p. Nothing related to "video play"!

You're free to not use it! I'm using Magisk+Xposed and my banking apps.
And the idea is fresh: Add "hooked" AA compatibility on-the-fly to any app! This can be done using Xposed.

Interesting... However, I prefer other type of Apps.
not necessarily to watch video, sometime you can "hear" mp4 song is also enough, rather than every time converting mp4 to mp3, when you want to listen
something like hearing waze instruction, once a while, not like you have to look at waze every time

wow. it is a remarkable good news.
I hope it's also possible to put an app running on the phone on the car screen.
Or is it possible to create an app that mirrors the phone screen?
I am looking forward to the development of the developers in the future.
Thanks.

This is possible, but:
Passing touchscreen events requires root.
Android Auto normally replaces screen content with its logo and it would be mirrored.

Even if you do not touch it, it will be a big help if you can see it on the car screen. I want to run 3rd party GPS app instead of Google map.

Audio is channelled through USB while on AA, as far as I know... At least that's what I've read on specialised sites, forums, and tested on my own car. V4A works well while streaming through Bluetooth, but once you plug it in to USB, no processing is done since the head units DSP takes over...
