I've just updated my wife's phone to lollipop OTA (in Australia), however since then everyone she has spoken to on the phone has complained of not being able to hear her on the phone properly (she has been able to hear them perfectly).
My first guess turned out to be correct - I turned off noise suppression and voila! Suddenly she could be hear again. Any one have any ideas what's causing this issue? I got her to try holding the phone at different angles speaking to me, but it didn't help. So for now, noise suppression has been turned off.
Has anyone else noticed this issue? How have you gotten around it?

I keep getting a crackling sound during calls, this is happening when using the phone with the normal mic/earpiece not when using the speakerphone. The other person does not hear it, today when it happened I turned to speaker phone and back to normal again and this stopped the crackling but isn't of course a solution. It can start at anytime during a call and so far the only way I've managed to stop it was by turning speaker on and off again but only done this once so can't say if it will work again.
I know about the speaker phone problems but is anyone else getting this problem when using the normal mic/earpiece?
Well I my Kaiser doesn't have this problem. It does, however, make a strange static sound sometimes after I end a call. But that's just weird, doesn't really bothers me.
Anyone else?
I've had an HD7 since UK launch on O2. I've had several incoming call that have been garbled. When the phone rings, I pick it up and cannot hear what the other person is saying because it's muffled.
Hanging up and rebooting the phone fixed the problem. Has anyone else experienced it or should I be reporting this to O2. I' not sure if it's the phone or a software problem.
Thanks
i've had no problems at all
mine is unlocked and i use it with the Vodafone sure signal box
Will be good to know if other people are having this problem, done a quick search here and not found anything so suspect it could be my phone
Same problem
I have been having the same problem
Picked from O2 and then unlocked.
Got a call and then middle of the call the other side couldnt hear me at all or could hear my like a robot.
Is this a firmware issue or a hardware?
I am not sure about the firmware but calling was okay on my side. The only problem I have is that the other side is speaking very softly even when I already switch the volume to the max (10). The person talking on the other end also complained about noisy background noise on my side. Anyone experiencing this?

Not for me. when I answer the call all I can hear is muffled talking. It's very garbled speach and no words can be understood. Also the volume is low regardless.
Next time it happens I will ask the caller what they could hear their end.
Looks like i'm the only one with call problems.
Apparently you are... I guess its best you send your set back for a new one...
No issues here, but i'm on a US T-Mobile HD7, so I don't know if that matters.
Exchanged my HD7 for a new one yesterday and had exactly the same problem.
On my previous HD7 I noticed that I was also losing audio every now and again in other areas of the phone, I reboot would be needed to get sound back.
Hey guys,
Bit of a strange problem, recently my speakerphone has stopped working. Whenever I place a call on speakerphone the other party can hear their own voice echo and this becomes progressively worse over a couple of seconds till neither parties can hear each-other and its just a loud fuzz.....everything else on the phone is working perfectly! It's never been dropped or anything...its still in immaculate condition! I am running the latest firmware (UK) and it's started happening randomly....any ideas on how to fix?:crying:

I got the exact same problem and no solution so far. I've tried various rom versions (4.4.x - 5.0.2 and CyanogenMod Nightly), but it didn't help, so I'm afraid it's a hardware thing.
I don't know if you also experienced that, but if I let noise cancellation (in setting) enabled my calling partner also does hear an echo and my voice is much quieter, without using the speakerphone.
In my case it's possible that I damaged the phone my self, since I had to replace my whole case and the lcd, after falling damage.
I would appreciate it if someone could tell me which part exactly is causing this problem.
I had to change thel unit also due to the touchscreen bering cracked.
Speakerphone, or 'audio output', is not working. Although I might have had this problem before. I can't remember.
I read on another forum that the bottom speaker only comes on when on speakerphone.
So I'm thinking maybe damaged it while repairing the replacement lcd unit.
I hope this is not the case. I have yet to do a factory reset. Just need a bit a spear time to do it.
I have this problem too.
I broke my screen and i replaced it with a new screen(including LCD) by myself, and after that the speakerphone stopped working. It's so strange because microphones and Speakers work ( i have tested it in *#*#7378423#*#*).
Mah!
My replacement lcd came within a new case without the back panel. All I had to do was place the motherboard in the new case.
The new case had a bottom loud speaker already in it. I have, last week, opened the phone up again and replaced it with the original speaker. Unfortunately, still cant get the speakerphone to work.
I will try an reset one day , once i make a note of my apps and back updata.
Has anyone tried a reset yet?
Hi Folks:
I love my Moto X 2014. However, when my wife calls me from her Moto X 2014 I can hardly hear what she says sometimes. Here voice gets lowered/amplified dynamically depending on how she holds the phone. It seems that noise cancellation is somehow considering her voice background noise and clips it out. She has the same issue when using my phone (on the same carrier), so it's not the network/the specific handset. Has anyone else experienced this? Are there known solutions to the issue? Morotorla blames third-party apps and/or the network, but we have experienced this on both phones out of the box on KitKat and Lollipop.
All the best,
Jeroen Claes
Hi
I had/ have this issue. My phone was sometimes clipping my voice and other times making it really quiet and echoey. The latter issue was traced down to the case I was using but I still occasionally get the issue where it clips my voice. This seems to happen when I'm in a quiet room, not sure if the way I'm holding the phone is causing the issue, as I thought maybe my palm was blocking the back lower mic. I was going to return the phone to be looked at and contacted Motorola who seemed quite happy to do this. But ATM I'm trying to see if the issue sorts itself now I've ditched the case.
This is the second time it happened, I busted my ass trying to fix it first time I encountered it, and I don't know how I fixed it. Total restart of the phone does not get rid of the issue. Bluetooth and speakerphone mode are not affected. Noise produced during calls, incoming or outgoing, sounds like someone is blowing air with full force into the mic, so the other party hears only noise. Recording with an app over the same mic does not produce the noise, so it seems only calls are affected. Anyone heard of something like this?
This is probably going to be the last drop in the sea of issues that plagues this flag**** phone, so I will be probably looking for something else that does not have Nokia stamped on it.
