twrp backup question - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it possible to create a backup, upload it to cloud storage, and in the event the phone crashes, sideload the backup files back to the phone so I don't have to use up 7gb of storage on my phone? Thanks?

If you know how to use ADB, then you can download your backup from the cloud to your PC and ADB push it to your phone. Why not just store it on PC?

You don't even need adb. TWRP has supported MTP for quite some time now.

Yeah it's brilliant.

It also supports USB OTG so if you have an OTG cable and a flash drive you can put your backup on the flash drive and bring it with you.

OK thanks for all the help

[Q] Possible to enable USB mass storage mode on Trickdroid 5.6.0 ?

Hi there,
I´m about to cry myself to bed tonight Just came home from vacation with my family and by accident I deleted the folder with ALL photos and videos I have taken..
So I have tried everything now to recover my files without any luck. I´m using a rooted HTC One (M7) with Trickdroid 5.6.0 and ClockworkMod 6.0.3.1. I found some recovery software for pc but the phone needs to be in USB mass storage mode in order for the recoverysoftware to work. But it is not possible to choose that mode in Trickdroid 5.6.
I triede to finde some UMS enabler on Playstore and also tried to use adb shell /system/bin/sdutil ums enable without any luck. I get an /system/bin/sh: sdutil not found message and now I´m tired and out of ideas.
Do you guys know any solution or workaround on how to fix this ?
Thanks in advance.
Regards
Pierre

guess then there's no chance for you to get the pictures back (apart from really professional help, but this is expensive), because it seems that the data got already overwritten if these apps don't find anything...

ok.. sorry i have no more idea right now. the only tip i can give you is that it's important you don't reboot/shut down the device anymore, because this often overwrites stuff... maybe someone else has another idea left

you must be looking at a wrong folder.
go to root folder of your device (where system, sys, etc, sdcard, data, storage and other system folders are) and check there.
edit:
actually, you aren't rooted, that's your problem. root, go to data/media/0/dcim. the photos should be there i think.

give it a try, but i doubt it will work. sorry :<
at least from now on, use the new way to backup. use a cloud backup app. for example for pictures i prefer myshoebox. u can do the same for contacts and everything. that way even if u go to another phone and log in to your cloud, you will always have your apps, your photos , your music , your contacts , everything.
If there is anything to save left ,then best chance is hexamob recovery on play store, but doubt it will find anything besides thumbnails.
Sent from my A1-810 using xda app-developers app
Try using recuva sw, it helped me once, but i think files have to be deleted to work and not overwritten or formatted
But since i'm not sure you can give it a try, not much damage to be done

Stickmount

Stickmount works perfectly with stock/rooted/decrypted N6..Now I dont need to worry about more storage..FYI guys..sweet..Run some movies with MX player. I am not in any way associated with Mr Chainfire..This is one way to show my appreciation to the king of rooting Mr.Chainfire himself who always open the flood gate for Android.. I highly recommend the pro version for more functionality. You can use the free version too..
You need to be rooted to run this app.
Update: Just update my N7 flo WiFi version to 501 ..Run stickmount and works flawlessly . Fire up some movies with MX player. Will update you guys when N5/N6 get updated to 501 hopefully.
UPDATE: Sorry guys/gals for the delay I update to 501 as soon as it came out but I am a little bit busy the past few days but .as usual stickmount works maybe there's not much that google did to 501 compare to 5..0 but any way it works so were back in business..

If you want to just read whats on the USB storage, try the app Nexus Media Importer.
If you want full read/write access, you need to root your phone and use an app like Stickmount.

[Q] Heeeeeeelp me please XDA

Hello everyone,
I had HTC one that I sent to maintenance to be swapped for a factory fault. Before I send it, I made a full backup with HTC sync manager and saved it on my E: partition. When the phone was at maintenance, I had to install a new windows because it crashed. When I received my new phone, I installed HTC sync manager and copied the backup files to HSMbackup directory.
The problem is that sync manager says no backup available for the device and I really need to restore those data because this is the only backup I have.
Please, can anyone help me???
Did you just reinstall windows or did you perform a factory reset on the computer? If factory reset, you are basically SOL.
---------- Post added at 07:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:09 PM ----------
There are some data recovery programs out there you can try, but it all depends on whether data has been overwritten. Try Recuva.

I just re-installed windows on C: and didn't touch anything else and excuse me but what do you mean by SOL??
And FYI I still have the backup files on my computer.
OK. If all you did was reinstall windows, then your back up files should have already been in the correct directory to use the restore feature. Why did you have to move the backup to a different directory? Just trying to understand, not trying to be a prick.

No, because as you know the default directory is on C: but the backup files were saved on E: so, I had to copy the files to the C: directory.
And even when I selected the E: directory, sync manager couldn't identify the backup.
I am sure you've checked and double checked to ensure the path to the backup is exactly as was laid out at the time of backup, correct?

Suppose you can't do that then. I'm at a loss here, bro. Hopefully someone smarter than me will be along soon. Right @clsA? I would highly suggest that to make things easier in the future when it comes to backing up to skip the proprietary HTC way and just go with a standard Nandroid backup. You really can't beat that kind of backup, though it will require you to root your device. I know that might sound scary, but rooting this phone is so so simple. You can still run the stock ROM and all that, but Root access really makes the One shine. Just my 2 cents.

I'm not real big on HTC Sync for anything really. But try this.
use htc sync make a new backup to it's new location
then rename all you old backup files to the new backup files names and overwrite them in the new location
now try and restore them.
I hope that makes sense to you

Glad to TRY to help. [emoji2] I think Wondershare is an OK option if you are not rooted. My preference would be Helium for unrooted backup, though. Like I said, though, you really can't beat a Nandroid backup when rooted. It literally is a copy of every single file on your phone in the exact state it was at the time of backup.

You can, although some music apps either scans the whole USB drive or lets you select where your music are stored in under the settings menu in the app.
But just for neatness, I put all of my music in a folder named "Music" on the USB drive.
