First I want to thank @K-alz for his thread for NCE Flasher for the G900A. Thank you carl1961 for making NCE Flasher for me to modify from benwaffles great work. Thank these guys for this. All I did was clean things up for the G870A users. Should of done this a month ago but I didn't get the chance yet. This works just as smoothly as the NCE Flasher for the G900A.
In my opinion this is your best bet over multisystem which has its bugs still and FlashFire which does not set permission properly when flashing zips on top of an existing rom. For example if I gave you a flashable zip to remove the S6 launcher and add the S5 one it will not set the proper permissions for the new directory or new apk without me taking the time to add the lines to the install script. TWRP and safestrap did this on there own. Perhaps Chainfire will update that eventually but its still best to me to have TWRP handy for a nandroid backup.
G870A
Be on 5.0 with root (stock, anything else). Guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/att...w-to-update-to-g870aoc5-5-0-keeproot-t3083841
Download busybox from the playstore.
Install it then safestrap. https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95832962473398954
Install recovery in safestrap. It was probably removed if you used flashfire. If not you can skip this as its probably installed.
Download and install G870A NG3 Flasher (Thanks benwaffle and carl1961. I modified this to use the NG3 Kernel for you guys)
Download this Flashable OC5 Kernel zip
Load NG3 Flasher and follow the instructions in the app which will flash the NG3 Kernel for you and you'll be rebooted into SafeStrap
Flash the ROM, zips, restore your backup.
Remember to flash the OC5 Kernel back afterward or you'll be back into SS again.
Reboot
Now in case of problems download the NG3 and OC5 Kernel tars to use in odin. The only times I find this is needed since finding the above method is when I hit a bootloop or some reason and I can't get to the NG3 flasher because of errors I created. Keep these kernels handy because you may run into a need to use them and unbrick.
All you'll need to do is boot to download mode and flash the NG3 kernel in odin
G870A NG3 Kernel: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23622183712466972
G870A OC5 kernel: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934556234
Thanks a lot for this!!!!
I just want to be clear before I try this, since TMS 2.0 is based on OC7, this OC5 kernel will still work once I'm done with SS correct?

Correct. You can only use the OC5 kernel to boot a lollipop rom no matter which it is, The base of the rom doesn't matter.
Thanks man. Can't be too sure about anything!
OK, first, thanks for this. It's already saved me. Second, can the flashable NG3 kernel be flashed in stock recovery if ss can't be accessed? I ran into a boot loop flashing the active button fix. Luckily I was home with a computer handy for Odin.

It can't. Has to be with odin as far as I know
Which fix and how long did you wait on it to boot? Sometimes it can take it a little while.

I really don't post much. I prefer to stay in the background, take some work others have done, and then add my own touches/mods to it. That having been said, I feel compelled to say thanks for all u have done for the active variant. So, thanks bro. Can't wait to see what u do next.

problems
i have a G870A now to be clear i did the stock root rom now i do SuperSU and Towel root then Safestrap and then NG3 Flash reboot then i can install twisted lollipop then i have to flash back to OC3?
If your on stock root rom ur already rooted.no need for towel root. Install busy box. Install safestrap. I stall ng3 flasher ,it will auto reboot into safestrap after a couple seconds then in ss,flash twisted lolli .then flash oc kernel back. And reboot.
---------- Post added at 08:07 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:05 AM ----------
Do not reboot in btween flashing twisted and the oc kernel or would will be stuck. And have to odin the oc kernel in download mode to fix.
---------- Post added at 08:09 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:07 AM ----------
And of course do the wipes before flashing twisted.
dirty flash?

Dirty flashing is just flashing with no wipes and you definately don't want to dirty flash one rom over another. Dirty flash must be over top of the same rom .it may just fix whatever problems you are having with that rom. Or not.
need a little help
i dont usally ask for help i just read as much as possible, because i know how busey you are and you can usally find the answer to your own question if you just read enough. Do you have the flashable oc5 kernel? Because you are downgrading to ng3 to get into safestrap then flash the rom . Then you need to flash the oc5 kernel back .
---------- Post added at 07:38 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:09 PM ----------
That stock rom doesn't have the kernel. And thus you need the kernel back to upgrade u back up to run the 0c5 rom
G870A_OC5_Stock_KERNEL_Recovery.zip is this the oc5 Kernel you mean and the NG3 Kernel I need to flash first I don't have the one on this thread is md5 and your say I need to flash the NG3 kernel or do you mean the NG3 FLASHER ?

Ng3 flasher has kernel built in it downgrades you. And yes oc5 kernel recovery zip . Is what you flash last to upgrade your kernel back so the oc5 rom will run and not bootloop

Ng3 flasher flashes the ng3 kernel to get you into safestrap so you can flash what rom you want . Then still in safestrap you flash the oc5 kernel .zip to upgrade back up so ur rom will run but it has to be a lollipop rom.

I have "speedmod-kernel-i897-k13e-500hz" Kernel on my phone and it comes with CWM. I download the MIUI Captivate ROM from here
When i flashed it from SpeedMod Recovery then I said some code, booted then showed some code from the kernel, then booted. It repeated this... Scared, I pulled the battery.
Using Odin3v1.85 i Put a stock kernel on my captivate.
When i boot it, it shows the "AT&T World Phone" Boot screen, and It stays like that for DAYS!!! (Trust me, I know from experience)
I tried recovering an earlier backup but it says
Code:
.android_secure.img not found. Skipping restore of /mnt/sdcard/.android_secure
I have no idea if the above affects anything but any help is Greatly Appreaceted.
I use Win7 MacOSX Lion and Ubuntu 11.10 so if there is any help at all then tell it to me!
By the way, I can get into Download Mode and Recovery Mode but cannot get into USB Debugging Mode because i cant get into the OS.
Thanks in advance!
Anthony
In the development forum there is a sticky of stock roms, find the one that flashes KH3 with bootloaders, boogs kernel, and use it, it is a Odin program that does everything, bootloaders, repartitioning, and fresh install of gingerbread KH3. It also flashes a custom kernel which will give u CWM so u can reinstall MIUI.
Remember, don't pull ur battery next time

Here's a link for the Odin 1 click:

Also, if you decide to flash miui again, that screen of code you saw is normal. Just reboot to cwm when you see that and flash the miui ROM file again.
Hmm...
I will see if the first reply works.
Hey there all,
Before i start crying, i'd like to let you know that i've read and did everything on the forum to un-brick the phone, without success; so here i go asking for help.
I had GB 2.3.6 stock, then rooted the phone (early this years). I did no tuning to the ROM or other funky settings, just rooted it for the Titanium backup and a voice recording application. Now, last night, before i went to bed, i left (as usual) the phone to charge over night. When i woke up, the phone was blocked with the start screen (with the yellow triangle). I tried to flash my stock ROM (14 times) and others alike via Odin PC, but after 2 minutes Odin said each time that it failed to complete the write operation (same goes for the kernels too) and doesn't restart the phone; while at it, the blue progress bar doesn't appear on the phone's screen. Then as a last resort i went into recovery mode and tried to flash a zipped ROM, without success... so, i went back to recovery and wiped everything.
I think i know that you will all tell me to buy another phone... but, isn't anything that i can do to it? Like flashing a kernel that will allow me to flash my stock ROM and so on?
Thank you.
What method/procedure did you adopt and follow to root the stock firmware? Also, do you know the details of the stock firmware?
Can you post a screenshot of the error you are getting during the flash via PC Odin ?
I guess u are not bricked
There is a solution for almost any kinda brick these days, so don't be upset. You need to tell us what error do you get on your Note. Also explain if at what point Odin stops progressing... like factoryfs.img etc.. Frankly speaking, given your statement, i find no reason for your mobile, getting a brick.

The details, i can't remember now, but it was the stock Gingerbread 2.3.6, the one that came with the phone; and the root method was by flashing a kernel (for GB on Galaxy Note). I think it was the good method since i had no problems for half of year.

You are totally right. There should be no reason, but now i can only go in download mode, the recovery (up+home+power) doesn't do anything.
I'm working now on a post very detailed and with pictures. Maybe things will be more clearly then.
1st picture - this is how my phone remains after powering on
2nd picture - this is what Odin shows when trying to flash a ROM along with a Pit file
3rd picture - this is what Odin shows when trying to flash a ROM
also note that:
- Odin (any version) doesn't recognize the phone model
- the same stuck applies when trying to flash any kernel
- i can't go into recovery mode (up+home+power)
- in download mode (down+home+power) the blue progress bar doesn't appear
If i missed something, please ask. Thank you.

Can you try flashing stock rom of GB the one that is not altered so when you flash it your device will be n stock GB if it works try using CFroot zergling to root then install speedmod/notecore then flash ics.
But it seems your using another version of odin and you should not have put a check mark on "Repartition" . You may follow the unbrick guide the one using the PIT files. Im unable to locate the thread that was posted by a user named "hg" which was really helpful.
Found it.

I did try to flash the stock ROM, downloaded the one for my country and carrier (GB 2.3.6), but after i start flashing, in 1-2 minutes it says (Odin) that the write operation fails. The same goes for all Odin versions i have. Please try to remember that the phone DOES NOT DISPLAY THE BLUE PROGRESS BAR in the download mode and i CAN'T START THE PHONE IN RECOVERY MODE (up+home+power). The funny thing is that the flash counter increases even if it doesn't succeed flashing (now i'm at 14).
When i try with the Pits, it simply remains like in the following picture for a while

2) Flash cwm9 safe kernel in Odin (pda) http://www.mediafire.com/?uhiges9y3zhs8oi
3)Reboot into recovery mode:fingers-crossed: and go to mounts and storage;
4)Unmount /efs /cache /system /data /preload /sdcard /emmc (some may already be unmounted)
5)Format cache/ system /data /preload DO NOT format efs/ sdcard or /emmc
6)Remount all partitions and boot back into download mode.
You should now be able to use PC Odin to flash a ROM. C how u go:good: BTW Flash an ICS ROM and then use Triangle away to get rid of yellow triangle and flash count.

download a kernel that matches ur ROM, reboot into recovery, install zip from SD, choose the downloaded file and install. Thats it really,
u will get root, CWM and safe kernel.
I don't see your version XXLPT / LQ3 under Philz kernel.
Try to update your stock rom first to those available under Philz Kernel.
Then you can flash Philz Kernel and get rooted immediately after flashing his kernel.
Good Luck!

Hi,
So you suggest that I should do the dr. Ketan's "1A.Root + safe kernel + advance recovery"?
Can I make it reverse - go back to the stock ROM/kernel if the Note must go to service, I do not want to loose guarantee.
How?
Where I can find stock ROM/kernel?
I have seen that there is noo XXLPT/LQ3 kernel.
Now I am confused what should I do. Which kernel from the list is suitable?

then use Dr ketans rooting method.

Yeah. Philz kernel starts from 4.0.4 I think.
If you want the easiest way, and at the same time to get the latest firmware, go to the link given by nokiamodeln91.
Download either one of this :
N7000XXLRT---4.0.4/12.09.07-N7000DBTLRT---Download---Germany
N7000DDLR9---4.0.4/12.09.12-N7000ODDLR3---Download--India
That's the last 2 firmware from Samsung.
Download it, and flash it from ODIN PC (On the same thread by dr. Ketan, you can find also on how to install it by ODIN PC).
Once you are done, you may go back to Philz kernel thread, and choose the kernel.
If you flash the XXLRT, you can download : PhilZ-cwm6-XXLRT-DBT-v2.7
If you flash the DDLR9, you can download : PhilZ-cwm6-DDLR9-INU-v2.7
and put it under your phone (external sd).
You may flash Philz kernel with your stock recovery. Just go to recovery, and apply update from zip file.
That's it. You will get root + safe kernel (safe from brick) + CWM v6.
By doing this, you won't get triangle. And you will get root, and also you will be on the safe state free of eMMC brick bug.
To go back to stock (if you intend to send for service), you can just flash back the original firmware. Everything will be back to normal (no root, stock kernel, stock firmware).
Please note :
DO NOT DO any wipe data until you get into PHilz Kernel.
OR :
if you don't want to go the hassle of upgrading firmware, and still want to stick to what you have now, you may refer to Philz kernel thread, and read post #6 (by dr. Ketan).
You can request your firmware installed on your device, and just wait for Philz to modified and put on the OP.
(but this takes time, you can't force him to modified for you on the spot)
Good luck!

Recently I rooted my S5, upgraded to version 5.0 and installed a custom rom.
Took rom off fine with flashfire again.
Then I tried to flash stock firmware 4.4.2 with odin.
and now my phone reads "phone upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again.
Tried kies, not sure how to get an emergency recovery code if I don't already have one.
Please help.

Can you get into download mode?
---------- Post added at 06:55 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:50 PM ----------
If you can get into download mode go to the OP in this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3076803
And use the downgrade to NCE file. Flash is in the AP slot in odin 3.09. This should fix you

2nd attempt worked perfect
THANKS!!
I've tried to follow this guide: How to Unlock/Root Your Galaxy SM-G920T 5.1.1 without Tripping the Knox
But my phone has the build number G920TUVS3DOJC and it doesn't work when flashing through ODIN, is it because the guide is only for older build? Im hoping other OJC users could answer this.
Thank you

Here's what you do.. to root
First method is Custom recovery and root
Download Unikernel v8 zip from your phone it will be in your phone download memory.
Then Open Odin on a pc find tmobile s6 twrp recovery in Google search as a .tar format
Flash that in Odin
Then once you have Twrp recovery find the Unikernel inside download folder and flash it with twrp
YOUR ROOTED .
If you do not want a custome recovery and just root only Flash the unikernel v8 as a .tar format file With Odin.

I'm not sure about the Nor trip Knox method
This method is fast It will trip Knox but who cares likely you own the Phone or take care of it well.
And plan to use carrier insurance if ever need be
Tripping Knox isn't a big deal Unless you ever need to send to Samsung. Most people Insurance claim and Knox is never a issue cause they send these out to be refurbs.
