Hello people,
I rarely see a burnt in (like old crt screens) image on the bottom of the screen.
For example when I change the volume, the softkey labels of the today screen are still visible, along with a white line. Most times it is normal so I don't worry very much but I'm wondering if someone else has the same issue.
I've tried many versions of hardspl (because they seem to be connected with some screen issues) but the problem still exists.
Hi i have the exact same issue, i put a post up a month ago not had any response on it. I have a MDA compact IV, not updated any ROM or HARDSPL yet. I was tempted to update to see if the problem could be rectified.
Have you update to a cooked rom? I might send mine back to have it fixed if its a screen issue.
Mine only holds the "burnt in image" along the right of the screen from top right corner to bottom right corner around 3cm in.
Also i have noticed the "Burnt in image" seems to get stronger when the device heats up. If i use GPS or 3G, this seems to affect the screen.
My background is black which makes it really noticable, i think if i stick with the orginal t-mobile white background it's probably not that noticable.
mmm
Perhaps the units you bought where like demo units. Those units that are displayed all day long turned for people to look at them. I have read in another forum that perhaps that distortion is caused by extreme temperatures, cold or heat.
well i'm still trying to figure out what is causing it, as I notice it only once in maybe a week. Maybe temperature is the most probable cause. For me I notice the defect only in gray background (e.g. when changing volume or launching opera).
My unit was from the first batch from expansys (origin htc asia)
It's possible your handsets have screens which are somehow susceptible to heat damage from inside the phone. This would be no fault of your own, but a manufacturing defect.
I'd suggest returning the phone to the retailer, HTC or the operator depending on your situation.
However, if you're using the phone in extreme conditions, ie low temperatures, you may very well find the LCD slow to refresh or have some level of image retention.
Let us know the outcome
i also have a ripple effect when pressing, but its more apparent with black. its also a first gen model, so i think ima make a phone call to htc. maybe a can get a new device.
for the burn in, try this:
1. Go to power settings, deselect automatic backlight management.
2. Pull up backlight level to maximum.
3. Reselect automatic.
You should be ok!
If not, faulty device!

Ok I will try this although I can't see how the backlight can affect the screen. In order to repair it with warranty I would have to send it to expansys uk (because it is not a European device) and I bet it would take long
Have you tried removing the battery for a while - some lcd screens can get the memory effect, and cutting power for long enough normally cures it.
My phone actually holds the previous menu under the current menu.
Example i'm on the home screen, goto messages and send a text using the qwerty keyboard. Back to the home screen, i can see a very faint image of the qwerty keyboard under the Programs hotkey.
When the PIN lock comes on the bottom right is "MENU", i can see a faint "programs" letters icon underneath it.
I will try and leave the battery out for a few hours, if not a call to t-mobile!
ok, i have the same "problem". even after a soft-reset the words CommManager
and Programs are still slightly visible in the boot screen.
but: as mentioned above, turning the device off for a couple of minutes cures
this, and the screen is dark as hell again!
really seems to be some kind of memory effect!
regards,
markus
Left the battery out for a few hours, made no difference. I guess is not a software problem.
will be giving t-mobile a call tomorrow!
:-(
I guess every htc device must have a flaw...
when it does it again I will try to take a photo of it and post it here
Hi same problem here.... See my post below..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=417629
I thought it was due to Spb Shell but no, now i'm happy i'm not alone..
But what solution for this??
I'm not worried about the burn in looks.. My worry is whether this behavior of the screen will progressively damge the screen???
I have been using the Diamond at full backlight.. Last few days i've put it down to minimum, but the problem persists!!!
ok, I think it happens when it overheats.
So that is why it is caused when charging.
wtf?
No its not due to overheating, coz LCD screen are supposed to tolerate temperatures upto 80degree C... Dont know if its related to electro magnetic radiation, may be looks like it's more after i use the network...
Hi another mate has this problem Andrew...

Hi,
i sent my phone back to T-Mobile hoping they will fix this issue with the screen. Just received the phone and it looks like they have done nothing On the job sheet all it says is "Software updated"? The problem is still there!
I dont think there is a fix as such, it looks like this is the cause
http://www.practical-home-theater-guide.com/image-sticking.html
I'll try if i can get a completely white background and leave the screen on for a while at the brighest setting, if this will erase the screen issue?
the problem appears more often now on my device....
It does not have to do with heat afterall.
Why would the image "stick" when the phone is off? I mean that many times I see the symptoms right after I switch the phone on.
Do we have any screen experts in the forum?

After calling up T-Mobile and made a complaint saying nothing had been done by the repair centre, they gave up and agreed to give me a handset replacement. Received the handset today, looks like a refurbed one? Anyway my problem is now fixed. Left the phone on a while and it got pretty hot, no ghosting on the screen
The restore was a pain, Wifi didn;t work, the HSDPA didn;t work. But after a few hours messing around it's all up and running so far.
My tilt is acting very nasty lately. Over the past few weeks, I noticed that when I turned on the display, occasionally I would get something that looked like the static that you see on TV, but with colors. I would just turn off the screen, and turn it back on to clear it.
Now it's gotten worst! 98% of the time, it intermitantly gives me a blank solid white screen when I turn it on. Occasionally I can just turn to screen off, and on to reset it.
I'm running OEM WM6.1, and I've tried to reinstall the OS, but it didn't help. My phone has taken a beating, and the top corner has had a small crack in it over the past 2 months, but it didn't effect the touch screen, or picture. I also took off the cover to make sure the cables were all snug, and it didn't help.
Any suggestions?
Something got corrupted. If you search WIKI, it's call the 3 color screen stuck .. and you're better off posting at thread below. I hope someone can give you help (if you follow those steps and still no good)
As rule of thumb, do a lot of reading first
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=423486
On a second thought, it might be the LCD itself broken ..
Oh, believe me.. I'm not one to turn to the forums without doing research myself! All the research I was coming up with seemed to point to a slightly different WSOD though. I think you are right about the screen being broken. I've reinstalled the software, and it acts up even when booting up!
Unfortunately, I'm not impressed with ANYTHING on the market to date! If I'm unable to fix this, I'll just go back to a RAZR until the next gen WM7 phones come out. (With a tilt screen of course!!)
Oh, and even though the screen goes white, it's not stuck, as it fully boots up; I can hear sounds, and even activate the touch screen.
Also, I forgot to mention.. the first problem I started experiencing was that my tilt would go back from landscape mode! It was like the video board was crapping out. I could even see a slight flicker in the display from the refresh rate.
hi i think you may need a new Need a new flex cable ribbon as i had the same problem once
Thanks Tayzaa, I think you could be on to something. I'll open it up and take another look!
Hi!
is this problem solved?
WSOD is bug of Hermes. I would know if kaiser have the same WSOD-bug with D-pad?
NuI have been messing with my cappy since 2.1 gone up to JB and flashed numerous times. My problem occurred while trying to find a way to mobile odin or some form of no pc flash to try stock GB. I need that method because I have no USB function or port at this point. Including the tiny piece mobo attaching it which in turn took out headset jack function. Which also took out speaker function except notification. Soundabout helped that problem. Anyway sometime during those flashes I started getting weird color issues which up til now I have been pretty sure was a software issue. The phone booted in random colors, sometimes boot screen was upside down, sometimes the picture placement was off. Now the colors are just all off. Almost negative like and barely visible unless full brightness. It usually fixed after reboot or lockscreen. I found that disconnecting and reconnecting the display fixed it every time...Until literally the very day my main phone was taken off me. Now the display has been stuck like that ever since that day. How cruelly ironic.
I'm still hoping it's just software at a deep level. But until I send off for a new usb port "because I cannot manage soldering such tiny parts on my own at all" and hopefully they can fix the end and usb port i cannot flash it.
Edit: I pretty much only have blue and green atm. And black. The color tuning option in the rom settings won't open either. I am currently Crom-S4 style
Edit2:Now after days I make a post and red just kicked in. The screen is more visible, but its a jumble of the three colors. Not correct tuning.
My Nexus 6 recently started blinking every 9-10 seconds. It's not a flicker as many post I've read have said. It's a blink. The whole screen goes off, then comes back on.
Sparing the details, first temporary solution involved the Adaptive Brightness settings. After that stopped working I started uninstalling apps one by one. Removed my case, cleaned screen, removed screen protector, cleaned screen. Did a factory reset this morning. Problem still exist. However, one thing I noticed while doing the reset was that while in bootloader or recovery mode, it dd not happen. Only when booting/rebooting into system did it occur. Google logo will appear, boot animation will start, screen will go black for a few seconds, then the boot animation appears again, and from then on the screen blinks every 9-10 seconds.
I found this post from more than a year ago in which the OP posted a logcat. It has no responses. I'm going to figure out the logcat thing and see if it is similar. If anyone can help me with doing the logcat or has any info regarding this issue, it will be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Hello... You can find infos about logcat here:

The XDA search function is really useful. And it really works very well :good:
Good luck...
Hey guys!
So I'll put a video of my cellphone and how the problem looks like right below.
Last week I installed a few apps from Play Store for studying and after a while the phone screen started to behave with a glitch: It started to flash some vertical lines and sometimes parts of the screen are placed in other places. If I touch the screen where an icon used to be but due to the glitch it is in another place of the screen the app opens normally. Like this glitch is more about an illusion. Sometimes the whole screen can go black or white and then it turns off. Sometimes the colour scheme is inverted. (In the video you can see itbetter)
When I try to turn on the screen again by pushing the Power Button the screen can blink quickly so I can't unlock it.
I saw a lot of things on internet but actually nothing really helped me. I suspected that it was a kind of virus but I changed the ROM 3 times (flashing Android 6.0 Marshmallow, Android 5.0 Lollipop and Android 4.4 KitKat) and the problem still haunts me. When I'm setting the cellphone up the screen is OK and everytime I can open an app this glitch stops. (As you can see in the video) But when I go to the home screen this glitch starts immediatly.
I've heard that it has to do with the battery or it is a hardware problem. But I don't know why this problem only happens in the home screen. On fastboot screen the screen is OK too.
I'm trying this forum really hoping that someone appears with the solution. Thank you so much!
