I have a Moto x XT1052 (European version).
I unlocked the bootloader, installed the twrp (with mfastboot) and gained the root access from the recovery.
But when I try to flash a new ROM (I tried the PA and the CM) I receive an error:
`This package is for "xt1030, obakem_verizon, xt1053, ghost_retail, xt1055 ecc..." devices; this is a " " `
As you can see is like if the twrp can't get the model of my phone.
Even with the phil cwm I get the same error (error 7).
So I tried to unzip the rom and remove the check of the supported devices but it failed again.
I re-installed the stock retail EU 4.4.2 ROM from http://sbf.droid-developers.org/ but I have always the same problem.
I can't understand why this happen.

The problem is that you are trying to flash Roms that aren't compatible with your device. None of those Roms are for the xt1052. The xt1052 has very few custom Roms available.
Completely normal.

Yes this is exactly the problem.
But I re compressed the rom in a wrong way. I retried deleting the check and the CM is stuck in the boot animation but the PA works
For the xt1052 users: for get the PA to work you need to edit the file "updater-script" located in META_INF > COM > GOOGLE > ANDROID removing the text from assert till the semicolon.
Hello guys. I have a problem to downgrade from Lolipop to Kit Kat stock firmware. I use this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/general/how-to-install-lollipop-xt1068-xt1069-t2941349 upgrade to Lolipop. I decide to downgrade to stock firmware Kit Kat. I've been following this link to downgrade http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/general/restore-to-stock-t2873657 but then it says " failed validate image " or something. I use XT1068. I've been try this RETAILDSDSALL_XT1068_4.4.4_KXB21.85-14_cid7_CFC_SVC.xml firmware and this RETAILDSDSALL_XT1068_4.4.4_KXB21.85-27_cid7_CFC_SVC.xml but fail to sucseed. BTW, I live in Malaysia. If you guys found a specific stock firmware Kit Kat link to me, I'm glad you guys help to help me. TQ.
I had this problem with mine I have a UK xt1068 as my boot loader is unlocked it seems to be when you do fastboot OEM lock it fails to validate the image so if you skip the fastboot OEM lock command it should hopefully go back to KitKat hope this makes sense

I don't know as I haven't relocked it I will try and see if I can lock it using the stock firmware for my required phone
UPDATE I tried to relock the bootloader using the original stock firmware but it was unsuccessful

Nothing works for me though!
I tried everything. Skipped the command, tried to flash 5.0.2 XT1068 boot.img and recovery, img but none of them fail, All I get is some sort of error - "Preflash Validation Failed" "Failed to erase partition" . . . .
Bootloader also shows Device is Unlocked but I don't get the "warning device is unlocked" message. Strange isn't it?
Any help?

Very sorry but the exact same errors persist. I can't understand the problem first, seems like a corrupt bootloader that won't accept anything. Nor am I sure the bootloader is unlocked. I don't get the warning message but my bootloader says it is.
Thanks for your time in any case!

My Easy installer MAY help you update, see signature
I downloaded the .zip file and tried to update my phone through stock recovery but it showed that after sometime like a minute or so the installation was aborted.
Please help...
Do you have anything in the firmware that you updated? The OTA process checks all system apps. If any of them have been changed from what it expects to find the installation will abort. Even if you remove root if you did not restore the system apps, files to what the update is looking for the update will not install. Make sure you restore all system files to stock OS before you attempt an OTA update.
You need to be unrooted to update, because it only updates if the /system partition is untouched.

I've a XT 1092 bought in Germany, now it is:
Andriod version: 5.0
System version: 22.21.19.victara_retde.retdeall.en.DE.retde
Build number: LXE22.46-19
What I've done on it:
1, Unlock,Root
2, Being unable to do OTA, download a German version of 5.0, recovery to this 5.0 through fastboot
Now there is always system update notification on the cell phone, so I download it automatically and try to update it.
Then the little robot appears and updating process starts.
But it failed every time, after power on the phone, it just says no change was made.
I enter the fastboot mode on phone through volume down and power button, and it says:
Device is unlocked. status code: 3
Software status: modified.
How could I successfully do an OTA?
Why it still says modified even after I recovered the phone to a stock version 5.0?
Many thanks, and wish you all a Merry Christmas!

To successfully do OTA, your system must fully unmodified, this including no custom recovery, unrooted, stock boot logo, etc. So, if your system only rooted, you have to unroot first. Or the easiest way, just flash the stock system and recovery image, then perform OTA.

thanks for your replay.
my x2 is now on a German version 5.0, and unlocked.
i think it is unrooted, but truth be told the last step I had taken before running into this OTA issue was returning the rooted phone to 5.0 by fastboot.
so now I'm even not sure weather it is rooted or not.
I've tried the steps regarding below method with stock ROM, hoping it can return to stock status and be ok to do OTA.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-2014/general/guide-return-to-stock-official-status-t3274121
Question: is this what you've suggested "flash the stock system and recovery image"?
but when i access the bootloader, it stays the same as before, and says:
device is unlocked. status code: 3
software status: modified.
then I put the zip stock ROM into phone, and tried to do OTA on phone both with original name and modified name(update.zip)
But after selecting the ROM in recovery, it says:
qe 1/1
--install/data/media/0/update.zip...
finding update package..
opening update package...
verifying update package...

E:signature verification failed

all the thing i want is being able to to OTA, I have searched some threads both on domestic forum in China and on XDA
but no one works.
thanks in advance.

Why would you want to do an OTA?
Just grab the newest ROM and flash it.
I've seen a 6.0 XT1092 ROM somewhere on these forums.

Did you flashed 5.1 or 5.1 based custom rom previously like cm12. 1?
I'm facing the same problem. Did you get any solution?
I've been trying for two-weeks to apply the 6.0 OTA to my Moto X 2nd Gen XT1095 phone.
The phone is rooted with CWP recovery rom inplace.
After the OTA is download and the phone reboots to apply it, I get:
Install Untrusted Package?

---
1. I don't understand the reference to victata:4.4.4 as I'm running Android 5.1 right now.
2. I can't find a recovery image for T-Mobile for the XT1095 to return to factory image.
3. I presume the Blur_Version above -is- the OTA image but I cannot force it to apply
(and probably shouldn't)
4. Motorola isn't making factory images available for non-developer models.
I'd be happy to wipe it and return to factory image, but cannot find a way to get there
without downloading the factory images from stashed places I cannot seem to find.
Any advice?
You must have stock recovery and stock system to apply the ota
What system version are you at right now?
If you have root and recovery, just flash the stock xt1095 6.0 rom from the android developmemt forum...
Factory reset, install zip and that's it..
As mentioned above, you can't take ota in your situation.

Doesn't sound hard, except for the part about -finding- a stock xt1095 6.0 rom.
I'm looking though but not finding the correct version of stock rom. A lot of
1096 and many in non-english variants. Pointers appreciated if you have time.

Flash this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-2014/development/rom-xt1095-flashable-stock-rom-t3277874
And after that root your phone with that: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-2014/development/root-root-moto-x-2014-android-t3249105
Download supersu 2.52 and the attachment for xt1095.
Just for comparison, antutu benchmark on stock 5.1 verizon's gave 36000~ and now on stock 6.0 xt1095 (which is really close to clean aosp) gave 55000~
Have fun
