What firmware do you have?
If gingerbread you can flash the voodoo kernal
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=975349
This will give you clockwork and will give you an ext4 lagfix
Hopefully Done It Now
I've done it (finally i think),
my kernel version says:
2.6.32.9
[email protected] #Dark_Core_1.0
Build number is: Darky's v9.5.xwjs8
But as i switch the phone on it come up with Darky's v9.4 ?????
Hopefully i will get used to this, if you can could you please let me know if all the info above is right and whats the best rom for 2.2.1?????
Cheers Madant2011.
looks like you installed Darkys rom instead of what you wanted hehe....
rom
when i had rom manager i just downloaded what ever darky's rom that was on there.lol.
Just woundering what is the recomended rom for sgs 2.2.1 ?????
Cheers madant2011
The boot animation for darkys 9.5 does display 9.4 so don't worry about that. The darkys Rom is very good but you could upgrade your kernel to dark core 1.4 or use speedmod k13e kernel

kernel
Just wondering how do i update the kernel to 1.4, i already have voodoo speed mod (I Think).
download it from the darky rom site and if you get the cwm version, just flash it with your recovery
also visit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822756 for information on speedmod kernel, that is what i used when on 2.2.1, very fast and good batt life
Thanks
Thanks for all your help. just reading the link and it says it wont work because i used the one click root (I think).
Cheers madant2011

Hello,
I need to update my Galaxy S to a custom ROM... I am very new to the flashing process. So no idea on what basis I should select ROM for my phone. I am looking for a ROM which can provider me some rich UI experience as I am bored with the UI which I have now.
I have looked for Darky's ROM and Amestris...
Please let me know if should go with any of these or there are any other ROMS which I can consider?
Model: Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000
Firmware: 2.3.3
Baseband version: 2.6.35.7-I9000DDJV6-CL198883
Build: GINGERBREAD.DDJV6
Thanks,
Guru
My friend use darky's extreme edition 9.5 which is pretty decent
Hybrid 4.0 is very good
try supersonic sp4 i am lovin it
I am currently on :-
Firmware: 2.3.5
Baseband version: JVT
Build: GINGERBREAD.DDJVT
and i am having great experience.
Check my thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1142499
Cyanogen 7.1 stable.
You'll hardly find any other rom that offers so many customizable options like this one.
After, replace stock launcher (ADW) for Go Launcher Ex.
Thanks a lot for the responses guys !!! It really helped...
I will look into the options will choose accordingly...
Thanks,
Guru

Try to use Darkys 10.2.2.

For video guide about flashing custom roms visit http://www.hdtechvideo.com
Why not try standard jvt on custom kernel, try different themes, try different launchers (I use spb shell 3d, very different!)
Then create backup, and try different roms until you are happy, can always go back quickly using backup

Friends,
I was on stock GB unrooted. Updated my device using OTA. After update I have performed factory reset /data wipe by recovery once and by settings menu too with erase everything option.
After that rooted my device using Dr. Ketan's method.
Every thing is running fine.
My question is
1. Because I have performed factory reset twice,am I effected by emmc bug?
2. What is the safety precautions for me now? Something like safe kernel or Revert back to GB...? Or anything else?
3. After rooting Uninstalled many useless stuffs like live wallpapers, yahoo finance etc. If I want to be on stock condition, what will I suppose to do?
thanks for reading....
Waiting for Guidance....

I could recommand you to flash a safer kernel than the original one.
With standard ICS Stock Kernel, you NEVER should wipe anything. The brick issu is due to a specific ERASE command sent by the wipe function to Samsung chips. (I hope I am clear enough)
For exemple, you could find under development part of the forum the Franco Kernel which avoid the MMC_CAP_ERASE problem under ICS.
But please check before that this kernel is compatible with your ICS Rom.

i am also with same rom
hello dude ,... i am also running the same firmware and i also did a ota update . but didnt root the device becasue of ics kernal problems . i dont know how to root it and cwm and install custom os in this section . but all i wanted to do is to back to GB ROM. how to go back ?
You have to flash a stock Gb rom through pc Odin. Read dr.ketans thread in development section it has all the info you need.

thanks...but can i use the pc odin ? gb roms are safe to root, cwm and flash custom roms?
If you are on official ICS kernels then DO NOT WIPE ! Neither "FACTORY RESET" via the settings nor via CWM.
GB kernels are safe, you can flash wipe without fear.
Try out ICS roms with Franco/Speedmod kernels they are free from the EMMC bug, but at the same time follow the install instructions carefully.
Cheers

Do NOT factory reset/wipe any more now that you are on stock ICS just to be sure you won't brick! You are hopefully not affected by emmc bug because you are still running your phone. There is a chance you can damage the chip and it will work for a while until you wipe again and then it can fry, but let's hope it won't.
I would HIGHLY recommend you go to a CM9 kernel or ROM base. They are smooth, efficient, SAFE, etc.
You will have to PC Odin a stock rom from drketans thread in android development to go back to stock. Unless you plan on going back to stock GB, I wouldn't worry about it. Don't go back to stock ICS, it's not worth it IMO.
Friends,
Just flashed Hardcore's SpeedMod N7000 ICS kernel.

What do you want to do? Its really up to you.
Do you like TouchWiz (official Samsung launcher)? Do you like CyanogenMod9?

I am not a big fan of touchwiz .
After rooting Uninstalled all the samsung useless stuffs including Twlauncher. I am using Nova launcher. Don't want to use stock ICS. Searching for better option.
I want smooth Android experience.
Inhanced battery life. Stable ROM for daily use.
I am reading all the ROM threads. All seems very good. Confused between them.
Any recommendations for me?

Spend only few hours with SpeedMod kernel. It's too early to say anything.
But I am not experiencing random FC like stock kernel till now. Feeling improvement in performance.
Best of all I am feeling safe and using my phone without fear.
Peace of mind. That's the big thing.
Until now I didn't root the stock indian ics which is an ota update. Just having it originaloriginal . I want you to help me with few questions. Shall I root my device with dr. Ketan method ? To root or not to root should be your decision.
Dr. Ketans method of rooting is safe if you follow the instructions carefully.
About flashing Speedmod kernel.... Its recommended by other members those are more knowledgeable.
I flashed Speedmod kernel using CMN. No triangles. You should read instructions on that thread.
Best of luck

It's totally up to you as to what ROM you try. I personally would recommend any of the ROMs that say they are built on CM9.
The AOKP ROM is suppose to be really good too and it is safe.

Why would you they are not a separate flash .
Try reading the basic faqs and guides first
