Poor battery life on a new phone - G 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, so I had a problem with my old Moto G 2014 and bought a new one. I've been using it for two days and I'm yet to get the battery life I used to have on my old one. With Kit Kat I used to get 4,5 hours of screentime. When updated to Lollipop I went to 5,5-6 hours of screentime. With the new one I'm getting 4,2 hours of screentime tops. The phone came with Lollipop already so I was hoping to get my old battery life (or better, as it is a new phone).
"Android Services" is having an abnormal use of battery (as seen on screenshots) and it is actually eating more battery than screen on some point which was NEVER the case before.
As for screentime, right now I'm with 75% battery and 1,1 hour of screentime. Usually on the old phone I'd get 1,1 hour of screentime with something like 87%.
The battery consumption overnight is also abnormal. I went to sleep with 85% and the phone in airplane mode and woke up to 80% - 7 hours without use nor signal searching (I know the phone uses battery overnight but 5% in airplane mode is too much for my experience). The charts didn't show any sign the phone was awoke on this time.
I've already frozen Motorola apps, did all the recommended settings - that I had on my old phone - (location with low battery use, turned off printing services (and frozen them too), wi-fi automatic searching off, etc), I am yet to use 3G/mobile network (so far I have only used wi-fi), the screen brightness is close to the minimal (automatic brightness is off), etc, so I don't know what the problem is (and I don't want to factory reset my phone now and lose all the app settings I just redid).
I want to know if you guys have any idea of something I can do or understand the "Included Packages" used by Android System (which obviously is eating the battery, I just want to find out why and fix it).
Thank you!

Fixed it. The solution was clearing the cache of the apps listed on the Android System battery stats + doing a cache wipe on Recovery Mode.

Talked too soon, here I am with only 16% left and only 4h10m of screentime. Can anyone help?

Can you post your latest screenshots please? Also, go to Settings -> Battery and tap the battery graph and post a screenshot of that as well...

So I did a factory reset, reinstalled the apps, redid all the settings and did a battery calibration. Yet, I'm with 17% and only 4 hours of screentime. It's very frustrating. It's two hours less than what I used to get. And the worst is that I can't just turn the phone back and say that the battery isn't as good as my old phone one. It is either a Motorola/Android setting or I was just given a bad battery. Again, very frustrating.
I haven't been using FM Radio, DropBox (wth this NativeDropbox agent), so I don't understand these on Android System, and I'm only using wi-fi.
Any help?

I don't know what's causing it.. I had 30% left with 5h+ of screen on time yesterday, the battery life's fantastic. Without using battery saver mode aswell, I only have the brightness set to min most of the time (bright enough inside) & location off.

In my old one I'd get to 6 hours with similar settings (location was turned on though, with low battery use, and it didn't bother). I don't want to have to turn my phone into a stick to get reasonable battery life.

I'm thinking about reflashing the original rom (since it doesn't void the warranty). It will be the second reset I'll give my phone in less than a week. Do you guys think it can do something useful or will I just waste my time?

I prefer KitKat too. If you like Lollipop as a whole and the only thing bothering you is that battery drain, I suggest you get a Custom ROM which is based on Lollipop (I'm using this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/development/pf-cm-t3127531) and it's working quite fine.
If you want a Custom ROM based on KitKat, go for MicroKat ROM.
Btw, turn off auto brightness for your phone and drag the brightness slider to the minimum (or wherever you're comfortable keeping it) because detecting the surrounding light and adjusting the brightness consumes more battery. Let us know what decision you make and how the results turn out to be for you...

I've been doing some stressing tests. With location services turned off I've been able to get 5.5 hours of screentime (this was the only thing left to do on the battery saving checklist). 5.5 hours with 1% left of battery. This is still less than I used to get on my old Moto G 2014, on which I once got 6.15 hours with 3 or 4%. However, this must be some firmware bug or setting, IDK (and no one here seems to know nor care), so I guess I will only wait on a update maybe. I've tried everything but flashing a different rom. Flash a stock rom is still an option but IDK if I want to reset and do all again with the risk of it doesn't work.
Right now I just put my phone to charge with 13% and less than 4.4 hours of screentime. I might have to settle for this, but comparing to what I had it is very frustrating.
I'll update if I "fix" it or if I decide to flash the stock rom (I'm not up for flashing a modified rom because I don't want to unlock the bootloader and lose the warranty).

Actually the stock rom I mean is the firmware. Sorry about this mess up. And I'm about to do this as my last attempt of having my 6-hour-screentime-batery-life.

Flash stock firmware? Aren't you already on stock?
I understand not wanting to install a custom ROM but you can try performing a factory reset on your phone. In order to back up your apps to SD Card, root the phone (It can be rooted without unlocking the bootloader or losing your warranty) and back up your apps using Titanium Backup.

Solved
Ok, I think I got it.
My Moto G XT1069 came from factory with Lollipop, so I didn't have to update OTA or anything. What I did was: I flashed via fastboot the Lollipop stock rom/firmware (one I easily got on Google, that I came to know is the OTA update from 4.4.4 > 5.0.2, as the "System version" is different of the one I used to have). This solved my battery problem. No bootload unlock needed, so no warranty void.
I guess some bug with Moto G's factory Lollipop is causing poor battery life, so for anyone's experiencing similar problems, this is what got mine fixed.

Try the Kingroot application. I think it's possible. Lots of videos and tutorials out there as well

Battery help please

I know there are countless threads/topics regarding high battery usage re p880, but I didn't want to resurrect an old thread, or hijack someone else's, so if I'm wrong in creating this thread, then I apologise. Can someone please tell me what exactly this service is/does, as it seems to be the biggest problem regarding my lousy battery life.. phone just sees it as android system (pic 3) where as BS+ sees system back up service. As i have backup disabled, this is puzzling me.
Thanks in advance,
Edit: in the time it took to write this message, ive lost 14% in battery, including the time it took to screenshot.
Edit 2: Ah, now im back on PC i can type properly.
been playing around, disabling system backup service, but a new process just gets launched in its place, from key chain, to LocMgrProvider...seems as you disable one, another replaces it, all using same battery. Must i just accept, that the android system is just going to eat my battery?..like cookie monster at the biscuit counter?
If it helps, im running stock 4.0.3, freshly flashed, with F/reset, unrooted.
Thanks in advance, and any help is very much appreciated,

that's... waaaaaay too much. why are you on ICS anyway?
my suggestion is - factory reset from stock recovery (warning: your internal sd card will be fully formatted). in case you don't care about ICS, i strongly suggest JB. if you don't care about voiding warranty, i strongly suggest unlocked bootloader + custom rom and kernel. oh and also, grab better battery stats app, it shows an easier-to-understand overview when compared to apps you used

Thanks for such a quick reply.
I'll tell you the scenario, as quick as i can make it.
had the phone 2 weeks, got it on a 24mnth contract ( i know, sigh)
anyway, updated it to JB (4.1.2?) through LG pc suite, but thought the battery life seemed to be worse, so i downgraded with LG flash tool, to ics.
after a F/reset, i rooted, then F/Reset again, but it seemed sluggish.
the long and short of it is, ive gone up to JB twice, and down to ICS twice, rooted and unrooted twice, disabled a whole HOST of stock bloatware, and am still left with similar results as posted in the pics.
ATM ive a clean ICS and im at a loss as to what to do. ive been reading all the threads about improving battery, culling the bloatware apps etc before i decided to post.
as for bootloader, i will probably do that sometime in the future, when im more knowledgeable on the subject. at present, i dont want to be left with a 2 year contract to a brick
thanks again,
ps: you say better battery stats is better than battery stats plus?...will download now, thanks

interesting situation. it's strange that sluggishness persisted between factory resets and .dz flashes back to 10x version.
first off, how does the phone behave when you're not using it? is it draining battery bad? is it going into deep sleep? what are the percentages of cpu states (you can check this in better battery stats, as battery stats plus seems to be too clunky for me to read proper info)?
if it's deep sleeping properly, then yeah, the issue is with something sucking up the juice while screen is on. next off, check cpu states - if it's locked at 1.5ghz often, when you have screen on but doing nothing, it's significant info.
what i've noticed with display, you can count up to 3:30 hours of onscreen time with stock rom (this is with very conservative use of wifi and data during this period, and no heavy gaming for example) - that's around 200 minutes of on screen time, meaning you should get around 2 minutes of screen on per 1% of reduction in battery - how far are you from this result?
i hope we manage to get to the bottom of this, but i still recommend unlocking bootloader and flashing custom kernel and/or rom. you can't really brick o4x while unlocking bootloader afaik, and you've done more complex operations when switching from 20a to 10h than bootloader unlock is.
I would go the other way to be honest. If you do a full factory reset, install no apps, no Google account or anything and still get a similar problem with the battery drain then I would take the phone back for replacement as that is abnormal.
No point running a risk with your warranty when might be a hardware fault.
It's midnight here now so can't really test it till.morning now. When phone is in standby, it seems to hold.its juice ok. I'm sat here now, with nothing switched on except WiFi, screen at 23% brightness , and am just using tapatalk and I'm getting 2-3 mins per 1% screen. Less if I play in the menus. First thing tomorrow, I'll reset the phone again, before dl'ing any apps. Then I'll only download BBS and see how I get on. I'll also.monitor battery loss over night.

edit:
after i wrote the above last night, i decided to watch a movie on my phone in bed.(headphones, dont wanna disturb the missus ) and i managed to watch a movie of 2hrs 10 mins, with 23% battery drain, on stock video player, yet just browsing through the phones menus/ light web surfing, eats the juice like crazy.
left phone off charge over night, and didnt even have a 1% drop in 7 hours (wifi off, sync off, data always off(dont use it)) and phone set to 2g mode

current set up
Right,
I've performed another F/reset, and rooted. Installed TB pro, and uninstalled/frozen a skew of apps/services as listed per the thread in my sig.
Installed better battery stats, charged phone to 100% took off charge, and am just waiting to see how it goes now. Would you recommend using phone as normal while BBS collects its info, or to let the phone alone for a while?
thanks again,
Sun

you can leave it alnoe during night to check if it deep sleeps properly, right now you're interested in cpu states option in bbs, to see if it uses too much cpu when doing normal tasks such as surfing, reading, watching/listening media etc. your goal is to get over 2 mins per 1% drain (in the end, over 3 hours of onscreen time with no heavy gaming). with those stats, your can say that your phone is draining normally, just that lg reports stupid stuff (f.e., stock roms report screen as using 20% of the battery, while in reality screen is using waaay more, the most actually)
Thanks Flying_Bear, I'll refrain from doing any more resets etc for the rest of the day, see how the readings progress and post on that tomorrow, after overnight analysis.
This piece of one of your previous posts just stuck in my mind:

TBH, from everything I've been reading on it, it kind of scared me off the subject, but to see you say it was less complicated than what I've already done, has got me to thinking.
The biggest thing for me at the minute, before considering that, it to rule out faulty hardware. At least if thats the case, i still have warranty intact.
Is the performance increase really that noticeble after flashing custom kernels/roms?
Thanks again for your time,
Sun
no.
apart from everyone here praising custom roms and kernels, DON'T flash a custom rom, when you are concerned about battery.
the best rom out there regarding battery life is by far a stock rom, be it 4.0.3 or 4.1.2.
the worst thing about the custom roms is WiFi. with stock i was able to let WiFi run through the night with less than 1% loss per hour.
on every custom rom my battery needs at least 5% per hour for WiFi, but most of the time even more. its just not useable.
shortly followed by 3g network, which has a much bigger battery drain than stock, too.
i am on CM and different kernels for some month now and i consider going back to stock, because i want to leave WiFi on in the night, otherwise my phone eats up my 100MB free 3G traffic way too fast.
BUT...
the reason for your battery hungry phone is not the ROM, the kernel or the phone itself.
your battery drain is absolutely absurd for stock ROM and can only be caused by badly programmed apps you have running.
OR:
you have your phone relatively new and play with it EVERY FRICKIN MINUTE, which would be an explanation, too.
you said, you were able to watch a whole 2h movie with only 23% loss, that sounds like the stock ROM i know. on custom you would lose around 50% for this. but when your phone loses battery when you "play with the launcher", you maybe have installed a 3rd party launcher, that eats your power, are using facebook/skype/whatsapp/(insert any other badly coded program, that has no push mode), or have just fiddled with the developer settings a bit too much.
Because you noticed your battery drain with 4.1.2, too, then i suspect a badly coded app. these are the reason for nearly every battery drain (and the reason for wakelocks, too) apart from bad drivers in custom kernels, like the WiFi desaster all the custom rom users have here.
I think the only reason I would consider custom roms, is a performance increase.... If it wont give me one, then I see no point in going down that route.

yeah, it handled a movie quite well, I was quite pleased with this. When i said messing with the menu, I just meant exploring the phone; no custom/3rd party launchers, no messing with Dev stuff.
At the minute now, the only extra apps on my phone are XDA Dev app, tapatalk4, BBS, TB-pro and root uninstaller pro.
Oh, and can I ask.... aside form the ability to "pimp" your phone out, or the extra customization, is there any benefit to flashing custom roms? As it cant be for better performance....
thanks

yeah wifi can drain too much, but i had almost same stats on custom as on stock - 3-4% per hour if wifi is left on, with sync on and push notifications and blabla. you've got things going great if you have 1% per hour with wifi on.
lg has crammed up a whole lot of **** inside their stock rom - apart from useful stuff like proper mhl drivers, quickmemo, nice gallery & video apps, it's bloated to hell - mlt logging, ****ty launcher (imo), widgets that only work on stock launcher, "smart log service", RIDICULOUS throttling etc). you can root and uninstall most of these, but even then you might not get what you're looking for.
my best onscreen time on stock 4.1.2 20a/20b was 3 hours 3 minutes. that's with conservative use of wifi, 3g and almost no gaming. on custom rom & kernel, today i pumped out 3 hours 37 minutes, and was on 17% battery, when i plugged it in in order to recharge it. that was an obvious increase for me (keep in mind there were custom rom/kernel combinations that had me pulling barely 2 hours onscreen time).
you need unlocked bootloader for custom kernels, and say what you say but proper kernels ARE battery savers and performance enhancers. stock kernel has for some people insane issues with baseband_xmm wakelock (for me it was rediculous, 6% per hour drain when not using a phone and no deep sleep at all) and wipes didn't help with that; only custom kernel fixed it. it has RIDICULOUS (for emphasys) throttling effect, slowing your cores down to 1ghz each when battery hits 43 degrees celsius (which for me was around 20 seconds of normal usage on a hot day outside), which leaves you crippled if you're planning on doing any complex action with your phone.
alternative is - unlock bootloader, check custom roms and see if you like'em (Zaiben is f.e. debloated and improved stock, something OP might like, or he can go cm, or carbon or any other if he prefers custom features). if you don't, it's easy to flash a .kdz file back.

Hi Flying_ Bear, can you pl confirm what combo of rom and kernel is giving you 3 hr 37 min of screen on time and which ones to avoid (ones that gave you 2 hrs)?
Carbon rom 4.2.2 version with iodak v7 had the best onsceen. Id say stock was worst, 2hrs 45mins of onscreen with no gaming and low brightness, with stock kernel

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Note critical battery life after 4.1.2 update

Hello!
I know that there were a lot said about battery problems in 4.1.2 android, but i still haven't found any solution on my problem. My Note was bought with GB 2.3.6 and had an awesome battery, but after i updated it to JB 4.1.2 (via Kies), suddenly battery life is catastrophic. I have everything off (bluetooth, wi-fi, gps), my screen brightness is on minimum, i use my phone on GSM band (not 4g), i also disabled some of unused apps, etc...everything said was also my practice on previous version 2.3.6 and phone battery lasts up to 4 days, but now, it drains off in 17hrs and I barely use my phone!
If I check battery stats, it shows that screen is the major consumer of battery and it seems like it is on all the time, although the phone screen is physically off most of the time. It means something causing my phone being awake all the time instead of being off.
Any ideas how to fix this??

4 days? really? think that is unheard of. Either how, it should last longer than 17 hours.
Try going back to factory settings, perhaps theres something running thats divided by zero :silly: .
If you feel adventurous you can also choose to root & try a custom rom. Though thats your responsibility and choice entirely.

Yup 4 days, not kiddin...4 days of average use.
I forgot to mention that i already did the factory reset and i also wipe the cache partition in recovery menu... I disabled practically everything, and i use things when i need, nothing is set on auto, sync or anything. Last night I didn't touch the phone for about 9 hrs and battery consumption was around 1% which is ok, but it's draining everytime i turn on the screen like 5% in 10mins. BBS shows that well known GTALK_ASYNC_CONN as a battery eater. Is it possible to kill this annoying thing on un-rooted phone???

I officially give up on Lollipop

regarding the wifi battery drain bug. I've been scouting the Internet and found different suggestions from:
1. Changing Wifi Frequency
2. Turn off High Accuracy mode for GPS
3. Use custom kernel
4. Use custom Rom with R7 code
5. Uninstall apps, by using WLD to detect.
Some of my own:
1. Turn down screen brightness
2. Change my Wifi channel to N-only mode (5Ghz)
3. Flash back to KK 4.4.4 and OTA to L (UPDATE)
But nothing seems to help the drain while USING the freaking phone. I mean I surf the web with Wifi on and the battery drains quickly. I can't turn off wifi because I need it badly due to the fact I have the T-Mo $30 plan.
So therefore, I'm giving up trying and just have to charge more.
I never had this issue
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
You could just try to live with it, i don't have this bug at all, but also i dont need wifi so much, have 15 GiB Data from Vodafone DE and just use it up like 90%..
You could also try to flash factory image and don't import ur apps, just go fresh
Out of curiosity, how much better was you phone on 4.4.4?
And, who can point me in the direction of how best to downgrade to 4.4.4?
Thanks.
Same here man. Here is what I've done so far to try to get back to Kitkat battery life.
I've fresh flashed the image at least 10 times using the flash all.bat on 2 different computers with matching MD5 downloads.
I've used it both stock/stock rooted, both unlocked/locked bootloader, both with/without user apps.
I've used several builds of Nexus 5 Experience, Slim , and Cataclysm ROMs.
I've used stock, Slim, Franco, ElementalX, Code Blue, Hellsgod, and Faux kernels.
I've used the setup as new device option at least 5 times on clean ROM flashes.
I've used Greenify and Lean Droid.
I've tried deleting all of but the most basic needed system apps.
I've turned off all battery drainers: Google Now, Location Services, Auto Brightness, Google Fit.
I've set mobile data to 2g only, set wifi to turn off while asleep, set wifi to 2.4 or 5 only, set it to device only GPS.
I've turned off auto brightness.
I've tried undervolting, tried underclocking, tried conservative governors.
I've tried doing a battery calibration.
.....there's probably a few more things I've tried as well but am not remembering right now.
I've tried quite literally every possible thing I can think of that I've picked up over the years as battery tips.
I'm still only able to get around 3 MAAAAAYBE 4 hours of combined usage on a good day which for me is listening to music over bluetooth and SOT combined. Compared to Kitkat that is about 2 hours give or take 30 minutes of less than before. Luckily I'm always near a charger.
Project Volta my patooty.:silly:

Did you flash via the OTA update or through adb sideload on stock recovery?
Either way, you're going to have to unlock your phone to downgrade to 4.x, because you'll need to flash the factory image for it. Here's a quick overview of the process:
1. Download the factory image for your phone at https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
2. If you haven't already unlocked your N5, you need to --- and back up anything important first, cuz it all gets erased. Google how to do it -- there are toolkits to do this quickly and painlessly (I think WUG's is one?). Look in the dev section for it.
3. Once you're backed up, unlocked, and factory image downloaded, you use fastboot to flash the factory image. Google how to flash nexus factory images, and substitute the image you have in place of the image any guides have.
For unlocking your Nexus 5 Bootloader, you first need to boot into fastboot mode. This can be done by turning off your phone, holding vol down and power and wait till the screen responds.
Now you need to connect your phone to your pc, be sure you installed the google usb driver for full support of fastboot mode.
Now you can go ahead and install Fastboot/ADB, there are plenty of Tutorials in this section for this.
Now open your cmd, and type
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
On your phone you will now see a selection, which you have to answer with YES.
Voilla, you have an unlocked Bootloader.
ALL YOUR DATA IS NOW LOST
Now just flash Factory 4.4.4 with flash_all.bat
This is true the battery is not very good but when you are using custom kernels please tweak them and learn how to tweak them using several kernel tuning apps like synapse faux clock, kernel tweaker, trickster mod etc
And if after tweaking u still are not getting results please try changing your kernel settings to new ones keep testing until you find suitable settings
All the best
Anyone want to comment on how LL battery life compared to 4.4.4 on their nexus?
In any case, I see little improvement in LL.
IMO 4.4.4 was better. At least you didn't have to swipe away notification screen every time you power on the screen.
If all we are gaining is slightly "smoother" experience, and encryption, then who gives a sh!t.

And yes, thank you. Fortunately, I have rooted tons of phones before, so I shouldn't get too lost

Just for comparison's sake, I have been using my iPhone 6 for the past 4 hours, and it reads 94% remaining battery.

You weren't using it full screen on and playing anything intensive....
Iphones drain just a badly when you use them. When screen off sitting, they have wonderful battery. But who cares? I leave my phones on chargers when Idle.

You're right - I wasn't using my iPhone 6 to "play" anything. I was using it to get work done: Emails, web, phone calls, SMS etc. It lasts two days for these purposes. My Nexus 5? 4-5 hours.
(and uh, no. It doesn't drain as badly. There's no contest there.. I prefer Android, but goddamn...I can't run around with a charger in my pocket. Not gonna happen)
2 days is my usual battery time. Same as kitkat, don't know what you r talking about wifi battery drain. Wifi is 90% turned on.

4-5 Hours? You should re-image it man. You have something wrong. I get 4-5 hours of game, email, and music stream time on battery. If I Only do internet, email and phone I get an entire day.
Lucky for me these are toys. I would never be beholden to my electronics. lol
I'm not seeing any of these issues on Lollipop. Battery life has increased for me over KitKat.
I've been using Stock rooted with Code Blue.
A couple questions though...
Do you only make one change at a time and then test?
After making changes, how long do you test those settings before making additional changes?
Why did you switch it to 5GHz only? 5GHz has more trouble with walls and has a smaller coverage area than 2.4GHz.
Never had any issues with the WiFi but I turned off Google Now listening and almost tripled my daily battery life.

I've just gone back to 4.4.4 - will see if battery improves or not.
I really did not see anything particularly better about LL anyway.
I'm having my share of problems with Lollipop (though things have been improving over the past week or two,) but the wifi power drain never hit me. Wi-Fi battery life is a bit worse than I had on Kitkat: idle drain is excellent, but SOT has gone from a comfortable 4 - 5 hr to 3 - 4 hrs (in a 12 - 15 hr day***), I can easily get well over 5 hrs, but that'll be at the cost of a significantly shorter 'day'. 3G, on the other hand, is chawing through battery rather aggressively compared to Kitkat & it hurts.
On both Kitkat & Lollipop I was/am running pure stock with everything on (Always listening, precise location, location reporting, bluetooth, etc. The only thing I've knowingly turned off is NFC (after accidentally setting my phone on a tag & tag-calling my mom at 4 AM ) No gaming, but several hours of podcast listening or Tune-In radio listening every day.
*** Usual average day from full charge to ~12% but early on there were a few days that barely lasted 10 hrs with under 3 hrs SOT.
I've been using the stock factory image and haven't encountered this wifi draining bug.
Update with reverting back to KK 4.4.4 from factory images and OTA to L in OP but only help with idle but not when using phone.

I'm not sure if you realize this, but you claimed you can get 66.6 hours of active usage on a single charge with your iphone 6. I don't think I need to explain how ridiculously impossible that is. Maybe you should stop exaggerating so much if you want people to take you seriously. Assuming what your battery life is and knowing, are two very different things.
I'd put money down the phone wasn't actively used for more than 1 hour in that time. 16 hours of usage is within the realm of possibility.
For the record, my colleague beside me right now has an iPhone 6 PLUS (more battery) and confirms that is impossible. You couldn't even read ebooks at 0% brightness for 66 hours. I'd ask for proof but your phone of choice has no way to do so and we all know it could never happen anyways.

Bad battery life. Android.gms wakes up 2.1 times per minute :(

Hello everyone,
When I got the X, I was happy with its battery life. Since the past couple of weeks I am having a terrible experience with the battery life. I installed betterbatterystats and I checked in the alarms tab, com.google.android.gms has consumed 60%? How do I stop this. In standby mode as well my battery is losing by 4-6% every hour?
Any help is much appreciated.
Clear data from Google Play Services and Google App, or do a factory reset. I have noticed that my phone drains more battery in standby than it did in Kitkat, upto 5 times more. In device operation, opposite is true. But the standby time sucks. Really, no solution seems unless Motorola releases an update, it is getting really lousy to fix bugs; or better, you can unlock bootloader and use a custom ROM.

have already done that and performed a factory reset to. no benefit.
the only reason i am not flashing a custom rom is because i want the moto actions.

You can stay rooted on stock rom as well and figure out what's eating your battery. That way moto actions won't be lost either. That's what I've done to narrow down what's eating my battery.

Stock Marshmallow Battery Life: What gives?

So got my father a S6 and its running stock Marshmallow, Long story short his battery life dies extremely fast. He has wifi turned off and bluetooth on most of the time. He has the phone on his pocket or on a desk not being used and the phone goes from full to 20% in a few hours. Should I flash a rom to help the battery performance or do you think its a faulty battery?
I Would provide screenshots but I dont have the phone on my at the moment.

Was the marshmallow just flashed if so might need to let the battery and kernel set in some scenes screenshots or stats would help determine if its a faulty battery

I ended up flashing back to factory using samsung smart switch, gonna give it another test tomorrow with minimal apps installed and if it drains then i know its a bad battery.
try wiping cache or factory reset in stock recovery. my phone had minor bugs after I installed 6.0 using Odin. factory reset fixed them.

ill try doing that thanks!
My battery life has actually improved since the update.
Make sure NFC is turned off as well (unless you use it often)
My battery life on MM isn't all that bad.. It gave me my first report on the apps that use the most juice, and gave me the option not to have it run in the background.. Not a bad feature.. Mine is rooted with a ton of Apps Frozen or Removed via Titanium Backup.. Battery life isn't better, but over time the device will get to know your habits and battery life should get better over time..
I'm stock MM and rooted running DS Battery Saver with the slumber profile. I'm just settling into it (a day or so) as well but out of the gate it's not too bad (12+ hours per charge). I've got most of the Tmobile and Samsung apps frozen but run a good dose of others.
I'm inclined to think this will improve over the next couple/few days and even more so with a custom kernel.
Update:
So I flashed the phone with samsung smart switch and battery is much better
Not as good as other phones ive used but its much better than what it used to be.

Root it an install deep sleep battery saver if that is an option.
If not, you can install an app like Greenify or Macrodroid and use them to disable sync or data/wifi when the screen is off.
That will help conserve battery quite a bit.
yes thats my next step. Its my fathers phone not mines. Just got my G5 today
