Hey gents. How are you guys today? I'm having a slight issue with my nexus 6 and I'm not really sure if it really is an issue.
It just feels hot with minimal use. So I installed a temperature app and compared it to the exact same use as my note 4, which has nearly identical specifications. I got the same results. But the nexus feels like it gets hotter a lot faster. Sometimes it kind of bothers my hand just because it's summer time here in Spain and it's already hot enough outside.
The first time I launched it, I saw that it said my keyboard was causing the heat. Then I changed it to the default google keyboard and the same thing... So that's why there are two keyboards listed.
What do you guys think??? What temperatures do you guys get? I'm at 40-42 idle and 52-55 with light usage like whatsapp or line.
Thanks.
Kent.

your cpu temps are normal, and on the cool side. feel is never an accurate way to measure temps, as feel doesnt measure temps, it measures the difference with what you are feelung with. heres an experiment. get 3 cups of water, a cool xup, a hot cup, and a room temp cup. stick ine hand into the cool wayer, and the other in the hot water. after about 2 minutes, take them out and put them both in the room temp water. the hand that was in the cool water will feel warm, the hand that was in the hot water will feel cool. and yet they are in same temp water.
btw, your phone can hit 100C(212F) before itll reboot to cool off.

Thanks. Maybe the heat could be from the CPU being located where I'm holding my phone? Would you happen to know if it is located on the lower half?

Don't think so. Battery at the bottom and CPU about 3/4 of the way up

Hmm. Indeed interesting... Because I know the nexus 6 feels hotter than my note 4. Oh well, I'm glad the temps are good. I guess it could just be the screen warming up. I know Samsung phones have superior displays compared to the nexus 6. I see it when I have them side by side... But sorry Samsung, a superior display isn't going to keep me on your laggy device... I love this phone! ???

Feel is subjective but I don't think you should simply ignore this.
My N6 never feels warm unless I am hammering it (e.g. playing graphics intensive games) or charging it. I live in Yorkshire where the sun shines about a quarter as much as in most of Spain so a hand warmer might be welcome sometimes but if your phone feels uncomfortably warm, something is probably wrong - it shouldn't.

The cpu is located in the middle on the left beneath the internal hard drive, scource iFixit https://nl.ifixit.com/Teardown/Nexus+6+Teardown/32877 stap 11.

And even then it may be the GPU heating up in intensive games besides the CPU ...

[Q] What is the safe maximum battery temperature?

The battery temperature reached 55 degrees while charging, watching video and downloading file, so switched the phone off for 15 mins.
Does anybody know what is the maximum operating temperature for the battery?
Many thanks
Mine's hot
Just standby charging my note would let it reach 40 to 52c and stay there even if i do browsing.. but when i play some games like "major mayhem" and GTA III, it skyrockets to 66c and then i chicken out and let it cool down again.. lol...
If i play without the charge plugged it, its like 35ish..

my note usually get upto 55°c while charging when i am doing some other stuff on it.. so as to cool it down i remove the charger and put my note into freezer within 5 minutes it comes back to 28°C
Edit: my fone reached a maximum of 61°C.. still working properly

I would not do that because you will get moisture forming inside your note that could damage it, or at least change the water sensing stickers so you warranty would be void, if it had to go back and be repaired.

My Note has once reached 64*C while charging.
Some app locked the GPU and GPU to highest perf states and I had my Note inside a leather flip case so it got rather hot.
No damage done as far as I see, battery still holds charge like a champ.

well, it is not a only about threshold after which battery would fry, but important is: the longer at high temp or the higher temps the battery is exposed to the shorter its lifetime and faster performance (capacity?) decrease.

My Note remains below 40 when I'm charging. I never use it while charging.
If you have old battery with swelling, you should be careful with battery temperature.
A little vicious battery will come out of original battery's belly and set your phone on fire.
You don't want it to explode in your pants, do you ?

Yes it happens in overclocking, in multitasking, sometimes when playing games or when gps, wifi etc. are all open. Just set default CPU freq. and try not to open too many apps altogether your temperature should lower. Oh, and if you have 3G enabled, disabling could increase battery life and reduce temperature

42 degrees is not TOO HOT!! That chip can get up to 110-130 degrees before failing so dont worry about it. If your phone gets a little bit warm just lower the CPU clock speed. I would not worry about that temperature!!
Well I think it's frustating. So,I set 613mhz for normal use. I only set 749 when playing games.

Everything you do harms the battery. Your battery is always dying. There are ways to slow the dying rate but it is inevitable

Of course, any battery starts dying the moment it leaves the assembly line in the factory.
Heat accelerates the aging time ALOT..

Be Smart..
When my phone battery get too hot(37-42 degree celcius)i usually open my phone's battery cover and put a fan behind my phone..and it help to reduce the temperature especially when i play games..

Ya of course i know!!! If your battery gets warm, normally what i do is stop what im doing but this isn't what most people will do. Take off the back cover and give your battery some room to breath. The samsung s2 is not built very well hit heat in mind. Its because of the CPU/GPU they generate a lot of heat. The heat syncs for them goes around the battery and this in turn makes your battery warm. As phones are getting faster i wonder how they are going to deal with the excess heat!? The CPU and GPU are to the left of your camera which probably everyone has felt mass heat from that area. I usually keep my phone under clocked to 800MHz for normal use (sending messages, phone calls, browsing the internet etc). Its really smooth and stable. When i play games i do put the clock speed back up to 1200MHz. I usually get 3-4 and sometimes 5 days battery life
50C
i got my temp up to 52C.. too hot.. i was startled and quikly removed the battery.. haha.. i thought my X8 was gonna die.. but, it still works fine..
i set the CPU to the same freq as u use. but it happend when i used USBtethering, and connected to internet on 3G.. the temp also increases when i use my phone browsing online on 3G.. but i turn 3G off when the temp reaches 40C..
So with OCing and all, what's the safest max temp of our x8/w8?
I never let mine go above 41 degrees c. How far can i go above that safely (not harming anything but the battery)?

How to really tax your phone.

Took a trip from Houston to corpus Christi. Anyone who's done the trip knows there's little to no cell reception between the two, and if you aren't familiar with where to turn, gps navigation helps.
I had the phone plugged in the whole time, screen on, and navigation going. Battery actually dropped from 90 to 85% during the trip. Phone was very hot. More than 100 degrees easily.
Ended up holding it in front of the ac vent for the rest of the trip once I realized how hot it was getting.
Since I was going down and back up in one day, I had no intention of stopping to I investigate, sorry, but it's worth looking at it every now and then when you're really pushing the phone.

Uses charger not rated for his phone and complains his battery won't charge and getting hot.

Made that trip twice in October, I know what you mean about the reception... Especially with T-Mobile.
I think what you experienced is to be expected though, I'm not sure why you'd need navigation the whole way either as most of the trip is 59 S.
Still though, I'd imagine that this could be duplicated just by playing a game while on the charger. It'd be interesting to see if thermal throttling is as aggressive as the Nexus 4.

Not sure I was complaining. Actually, I'm sure I wasn't complaining. I guess it may be easy to expect that considering all the "omg this and that and the other thing sucks about this phone".
On my gnex (which this replaced), the battery would die just from going through spotty cell areas. If I was going from Houston to Waco, and didn't have it on the charger I'd have to shut down the phone for the distance between college station and Waco.
Anyway, just as the gnex was better than my n1 was better than my g1, the n5 is the best phone I've had, I'm not complaining.
Thanks lwfb. on the way back I turned off navigation after Victoria.

[Q] I have a cooling idea. Feasibility discussion.

So I was thinking what if you took a small square fan perhaps one from a laptop or something on new egg then cut a square hole in the black fromt cover and glue it in there. The power source would be perhaps an 18650 battery mounted to the left side of the headset. That means the cover would be attached to the gear vr permanently but it would be worth it if it kept it cool. Of course this would work best if you removed the back door of the Note 4. Just trying to think of a cooling solution that woildnt permanently alter the Note 4 and is something the average joe could do at home. What you guys think? Your input would be greatly appreciated.

The idea that I have been thinking about doing is to get a cold pack (the kind that you can put in the freezer to reuse it) and then put it in between the phone and the black plastic cover. May need to put it in some kind of wrapping to make sure no moisture leaks or makes contact with the phone. Even if one cold pack lasts for just half an hour, one could buy multiple of them and just change them as needed.

consider the dust particles you would be blowing into the system while trying to watch stuff, even the smallest speck is super annoying. i say chill the plastic back for a few minutes in the fridge (don't allow condensation) and only put it on after playing a game or whatever for a while. i still haven't gotten the hot temp warning using my gear vr. watching full movies never causes overheating, and only game for maybe 30 minutes at a time... just don't see fan as necessary. now an external power source would be nice, a way of charging the battery to the phone, while plugged in, but that would add to weight of the device, compromise mobility (plugging in), and definitely make the phone run hotter... all in all its a pretty good compromise as is. best thing is maybe to have a spare battery.

Hopefully it will help. It pushes enough air but without noise since it's a brushless fan. Will find out on a3 hour adventure tomorrow. Before this I've had it tell me to pull phone out and let cool.

How long did it take for the over heating message to pop up? I haven't seen the message yet... but I haven't played any games for more than half an hour with the Gear S: I think the hottest my phone has gotten was 105° (according to Zooper), but that was after watching LOTR
The eyes won't move, it's made from thick photo paper with 20 removable glue dots from Walgreens.
Message came after about a 45 min of gaming. Which gaming creates a lot, I mean a lot of heat.

Sony Xperia Z1 Overheating really bad

So my mom has been complaining about her Z1 Touchscreen not being responsive, it's original, it has never been touched.
I took the phone for a few tests and analyzed it myself, it's not really the touchscreen, the phone is reaching freaking high temperatures about 83ºc just hitting the camera button a few times, the heat spreads through the screen and makes it unresponsive.
Software:
It's running a completely stock and completely de-bloated 5.1.1 Sony rom, I removed all the bloatware inlcuding the massive set of Google Apps leaving only the essential and clean Sony/Google Apps along with the system services.
Example of stuff I removed: What's New, Gameloft Games, Tetris, Google Play Banca...
There is absolutely nothing draining the battery or running in background that could cause this issue:

That's right, about 24 hours powered on after a cold boot on standby.
Hardware:
This phone is getting old, I purchased it in December 2013, a year ago the battery would die at around 67%, I found a Z1 with a shattered screen and back plus bad ESN on eBay for cheap, swapped the batteries and everything got back to normal, didn't care too much about water isolation because no one would swim with this phone.
So looking at the following picture, the chip to the right, I assume it's the main SoC, the Snapdragon 801, the one that's hitting high temperatures for relatively very low workloads.
Solution:
Can this heatspreader be taken off like on the LG G3? If yes, would help if I added thermal paste to it?
Maybe add some copper tapes around to spread the heat better?
Some heat insulation between the motherboard and the screen?
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Any ideas?
Thanks.

It's definitely a Hardware issue. (restore from TWRP on another z1 makes no issues)
But don't know If it's possible to renew the thermal paste.

Okay, also I don't know if you can renew the thermal paste. If you do decide to do it, let me know how it goes
