[Q] Cannot Screen Mirror after updating to Lollipop - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys,
My Xperia Z1 used to be able to screen mirror to my Samsung Smart TV when it was still in Kitkat 4.4.4 (firmware 14.4.A.0.157 i believe). However, after updating to the current Lollipop 5.0.2, the screen mirroring feature does not seem to work; everytime i try both devices would get stuck in connecting for a while and then Z1 would disconnect with the toast message: cannot turn on screen mirror.
Now, the interesting thing is, back in 4.4.4, i rooted the phone using the method of flashing and rooting an older kernel (14.4.A.0.108) with EasyRoot , and after updating to 5.0.2, i lost root access. One of my friends has the exact same Z1, the only difference is that he never rooted, and after the update, his Z1 can still screen mirror just fine.
The question is: Has the rooting process i used affected the screen mirror feature in some way? And more importantly, does anyone know how to fix this issue?

Is your bootloader unlocked? After unlocking bootloader you lose the DRM keys from your phone which in turn means you lose features like ScreenMirroring, BIONZ image processing algorithms and X-reality. So these features won't work on a device with an unlocked bootloader.

Well no, my bootloader isn't unlocked, which is why i find it weird that while TrackID still works, Screen Mirroring doesn't.

I had same problem but exact opposite, it never worked on 4.4.4 on samsung tv but now on 5.0 it works ! on sony tv it has always worked !

[Q] XPERIA Z messed up after unlocking bootloader

Hello guys.
I got my hands on my SONY XPERIA Z 2 weeks ago. Then I updated it to the Jelly Bean 4.2.2 immediately.
3 days ago, I got the 2.67 update. Next up, I decided to root my device. So I googled "XPERIA Z C6602 10.3.A.2.67 root".
I don't know what the number was, but the last 4 digits were 2.67, the latest update actually.
In time, I noticed that I had to unlock the boot loader first.
So I d/l'ed the Minimal Fastboot & Adb from the XDA and had gotten my Key through the SONY UNLOCK BOOTLOADER service.
I ran the minimal fastboot & adb then unlocked the phone. I ended up a data-wiped XZ after the operation as the 13-page application menu had gone and a 3-page one remained from stock XZ Jelly Bean firmware. That was normal actually, but the thing is that I ran the UBL operation on my smartphone solely to ensure that I have a BL unlocked smarty.
What I got after the second time unlocking was, um, SONY & XPERIA splash screen and then multiple reboots. Thus, I did some googling and noticed how to switch off the unit, using VOL+ & Power method. Now every time I boot it up, it keeps rebooting over & over.
As you all know, I cannot update/repair it through SUS or PC Companion as it's BL unlocked & EMMA is unavailable in my area.
I couldn't find a 4.2.2 C6602 Stock FTF but a 4.1.2 FTF to use with my XZ. I have to use Androxyde Flashtool.
Will this kind of downgrade kill my BLU'ed smartphone or can anyone help me out uploading the C6602 4.2.2 Global Generic FTF stock firmware or a link? Are there any other ways to relieve my phone?
Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated.
Additionaly, I've seen guys having the same problem because of other reasons, say, turning Airplane mode on.

i know it's too late, but you don't need to have an unlocked BL to get root. And i hope you did a TA-backup, so that your drm keys aren't lost forever.
Downgrading won't harm your device.

[Q] Is it worth rooting my Xperia Z1?

So I have an Xperia Z1 C6903, using software modified by Telstra.
I seem to have battery life issues, and I was wondering if rooting, then flashing the GSM firmware/software would let me access updates to improve battery life, and also I would like to flash 4.4 when it comes out for the Z1 in CM10.3 or whatever.
But, I have heard that unlocking the bootloader breaks the camera? Is this still the case? Also, is there any way to lock the bootloader again?
Is it worth doing it?

Bootloader unlocking will indeed still cause your camera to break and you will irreversibly loose DRM keys and thus X-Reality etc. This has not been fixed by Sony yet..There is a way around that however as you can backup your TA partition (which contains the DRM keys). Once you back that up you can restore it in the future once you decide to get back on a stock rom.
When it comes to battery life rooting will let you use apps such as Greenify which have a lot of functionality that with root can greatly improve your battery life. You could also downgrade the CPU with any apps such as CPU master.
To get a custom rom such as CM you will need a custom kernel so unfortunately you will need to unlock the bootloader first.
Rooting and boot loader unlocking are different things

[Q] Unlock bootloader vs root

Hi,
I'm about to jump on the wagon and get a Z3 Compact to replace my Nexus S. My Nexus S is long overdue and the Z3C would be a significant upgrade.
My Nexus S is rooted and the bootloader is unlocked. Of course, I have found the appropriate rooting procedures and unlocking bootloader topics for the Z3C. I would like to at least root the device to get Titanium Backup and the Xposed Framework. I have some questions however :
Are there any issue to just root the Z3C without unlocking the bootloader ?
I understand the unlocking the bootloader will cause issues to some functions due to DRMs security keys. Is rooting causing any issue on the Z3C ?
Is it possible to still receive Sony's firmwares updates OTA after rooting ?
Thanks
Neo.

Nope.

Nope. There is a way to root Z3 compact without losing DRM keys.

Yes. You will still get the updates. However if you have a custom recovery installed or something modified in the system folder, the update verification will fail. Thus, rendering the update function useless.

Thank you sir. I have unlocked my bootloader on my Nexus S, however I am installing custom ROMs on it in order to have KitKat. But I don't see any benefit into unlocking the bootloader of the Z3C at the moment, since it should be supported for some time. Unlocking the bootloader just gives the ability to install custom roms, correct ?
Could something like Xposed Framework (which does not require bootloader unlocked, but requires root) cause an Android update to fail ? I do think it is modifying stuff in the system folder, however I don't have a lot of knowledge into the Android architecture. I guess I could just revert every Xposed plugins, upgrade and put them back (if supported by latest firmware).
Again, thank you

Yes. It could also be the reason why. I am not 100% sure on the technical details but based on my reading, OTA performs integrity checks (could be hash checks) on the system files before applying the update. Meaning if one system file fails to match an item, the OTA will not install itself. Also, I read that custom recoveries are one of the causes for failed OTA installation. In my experience, after I downgraded to KitKat and root it using Giefroot, I successfully installed OTA for the .77 firmware. However, during this case, I still don't have Xposed and custom recovery installed.

How to root Z3+ single SIM

Hello,
I find the rooting thing very confusing.
I have a locked bootloader, is there any way to root my device without unlocking the bootloader? (for example with oneclickroot)
If I unlock the bootloader, what functionality do I lose?
If I understand it clearly, I need to unlock the bootloader, then fastboot the TWRP recovery and then within the recovery I can flash the supersu.zip package?
Also, do I need a kernel with the Sony security disabled if I just want to root the stock ROM? (SONY RIC, SELinux)
I hope someone can clear these things up for me....
Thanks in advance.
By unlocking BL you lose X-reality,Bionz and some sound fuctions if I'm not mistaken but I think there is a way to restore them

I unlocked my BL long time ago just because I needed root, I wanted so bad because I need to install cerberus antithief app and some other features.
Then noticed that camera was so slow, video is so lag, so better don't use it and record videos, somethimes color has a lot of contrastbut automatically goes normal, in sound quality and calls I really didn't notice anything bad.
Now that I upgrade to the last firmware, ther is no safe way to root it again, untill now I think I should never unlock my BL...
I have the dual version E6533.
With galaxy and htc I could play around with Sony z3 and plus no root without sacrifying basic functionality... Next phone will be a galaxy s7 or iPhone 7... If possible both... Galaxy for sports iPhone for business and non sports
Basically, there's no way to root any Xperia devices since the Z3+ generation with BL locked. Beacuse Sony update their BL so that you can't replace the kernel even if you rooted the system.
