Starting to like window apps on my nexus 6 :s - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all is it just me or are the Microsoft apps getting much better now (i do mean android versions and i dont mean windows os)
They look and run so nice on my nexus.... i know can not believe i just said that myself
what u guys think ?

Why does your subject line read "Windows"? It should just say Microsoft. MS does make software for many different operating systems.

Its one of the best and the most stable OS around, the trouble is that nobody wants it (or MS can`t sell it)

Got their mail app, onenote and onedrive.... they work great and look great on android i have never used a newer windows phone (or os or whatever u want to call it, still windows in my eyes) so i wonder if they look and feel like that on their own os.

I had some windows phones and the OS is very efficient and works fluid and fast even with a 2 cored cpu. Android is much more power and RAM hungry then WP8.1 or iOS.

thanks for the feedback mate

Will it posible to run Symbian on BlackStone?

Now, our BlackStone've got Windows Mobile 6.1, 6.5, (maybe) 7, Android (Linux), iPhone themes and etc.
So, can anyone who being the top developer in XDA-Dev will try to run symbian from Nokia 5800?
I think that if this idea come true, it's maybe make BlackStone to be the Guiness World of Record that can install (almost) operating system for mobile device in the world.
Please share your idea...
from a pure hardweae point of view the blackstone should be able to run symbian (directky/as primary OS) on a softwear point of view the current spl probably will not permit it if that is the case that can be resolved but would require quite extensive modification of the code in the spl. akternitivly the othere approach is to run as a secondary or emulated os. but then if the spl dose allow symbian the os will need to be ported all options requre a fair deal of work on the soft wear, im a heardwear guy no coder or softwear writer/developer i can do some basics but if the project starts ill be happy to do what i can.
this would be akin to putting a fiat engine in a ferarri, no?

ya i thnk ur right...but having symbian as an emulated os will shut up every other idiot who'll claim that our phone is **** because it doesnt run symbian (like n97) so..will be a BIG plus point ...n can also put our dear phone in guiness world records.

Not quite! Let's not forget that Ferarri is owned by FIAT !!
So symbian on the HD will be more complicated!
Hi,
Don't take this the wrong way, but if you like the symbian software that much (And believe me, I do love it to) why don't you just buy the Nokia 5800... the device is developed for the soft so it will run perfect on that one...

Just be the idea because if anyone (I mean to XDA-Dev's intelligent developers) can ported and modified ROM for install Symbian OS, it's will be the really good thing.
I like the WM very much, but still want to know that is it possible to run other OS? I think that it will really good sound as if we can run almost OS in the world.

but thats migrating symbian base applications on windws and not migrating the symbian os..

Wow, how many smartphone OS's do we need?

What ever happened to just WinMo and Blackberry and Symbian?
We now have
Windows Mobile
Windows Phone Series 7
Android
WebOS
Bada
LG are developing there own
S-Class (sort of counts?)
iPhone OS
Motorola are developing there own
Symbian s60
Maemo
Blackberry OS
I know more choice is usually a better thing, but surely there is a limit?
Agree, this is way too many! Some will not succeed or will be combined in the next few years.
Don't forget about Brew Mobile by Qualcomm
There is a big difference between Smart OS and other Regular OS`s that intended to be for feature phones , such as Brew, S40 Nokia feature phones platform .. I personally dont think its right to classify Beda OS as smart OS .. but anyway samsung is using the "Smart" word more that any other company.
Btw LG announced they are not planning to build an OS.
Its good to have variety of choices plus it bring up new stuff .. look how amazing webOS is,how stable iPhone OS is .. and hey .. seems like android is capable of putting the best of all out there ..
anyway .. in time the bad OSes will die and disappear the good ones only would make it and stay

Have you seen the spec on the Bada OS phone? Cetainly seems like a smartphone to me!
But I agree with Brew and s40 not really counting - they're aimed at more budget phones.
Nevertheless do we need 6+ options?
samsung are making their own linux based os too
and nokia and intel are merging their linux based into 1 I read
wow you completely forgot blackberry the king of messaging i mean i know it actually sucks at web browsing but i mean when i start using my berry loads i type faster on that i can on my computer. i gotta say i do like iphone os and winmo. but i recon im gonna go android from now on i've used symbian it suck used blackberry and i hate the ui ( love the messaging and the intergration with facebook i mean us winmo guys get sent an email and have to reply to that but with blackberry the email comes thru but appears as a facebook notification in your messages if you open it it instantly opens the facebook app and takes you to that message photo or status) i like iphone just wish it was more customisable (dad has an iphone and loves everything except the fact you can't change stuff as easily such as battery light from the home screen) i'm using winmo and its bearable due to the fact that sense ui is amazing. but android is the way forward. but in response i feel we probably need about 4 each for diffrent people iphone for anyone android for anyone who hates apple (or realised its actually better than iphone) blackberry for people who need amazing messaging and winmo 7 for thoose windows fan boys

Its not that big in the U.K you get the odd one or two, but there certainly not mass market. Although they have done a recent (ongoing) ad campaign on the TV.
But yeah, I completely forgot Blackberry OS.

Dont know, I think its only in its initial stages. Theres just been posts on various blogs about it. Not too sure weather or not its true.
Hadn't realized we had so many "sorta" working phone O/S'es out there. The company that makes an O/S that works bug-free out-of-the-box will cash in big. To steal a famous quote:
"One O/S to rule them all and in the darkness bind them."
What I'd like to see:
From Android:
Android Phone OS - Android basic OS for phones
AndroidMB - Android mobile business. Google needs to focus on the business market that doesn't strive for a hippie company that lets their entire staff come outside for the passing of Street View vehicles
From Apple:
iPhoneOS
MMB - Mac Mobile Business
From Microsoft
Windows Phone
Windows Mobile Business
I want a business phone that is as close as possible to a mobile computer. Not some interface that makes it fast for me to make a couple quick swipes with my finger to show someone a YouTube video. I understand that it's where the market is going, but there's a lot more contract money in business. Microsoft knows this. Everyone else needs to join the bandwagon. Microsoft can't forget this.

Wow. Just Wow. This will be huge!
Personally I find more choice is better. The more competition the better things are for the user in the end run, i.e. better technology, lower prices to name a few. Yes, it can be confusing on which to choose, but would you rather we all use the same device??? Didn't think so.
Also, not are new technologies make it, look at the mini-disc as one example of a technology which was supposed to take over from the CD, but were is it now??? The same applies to phone OS.....not all will make it, but the ideas behind these technologies will be incorporated into the ones which will succeed.....again only better for the end user

huge no of software available for winmo 6.5
Win6.5 is way to buggy. This is what almost kept me from getting a new Windows Phone. Plus the market place is closed. Only the old stuff is out there with no new software, updates, or upgrades for that OS. I have been using a windows based phone for years and you really have to be a guy that loves to tinker with programming on the regular.

Exactly. You have to tinker with WM a lot, but once you do, and if oyu do it right, you have a powerful and snappy smartphone for a nice price nowdays. Mine is not buggy at all. Far less then some Android phones.

Any ways to install Windows Phone on a android device

Got this idea tonight , I was thinking about this and im sure that this as been done before , is there anyways to install windows phone on an android device such as Samsung Galaxy s. Also are there some restrictions that could make this not able to do so.
If someone knows any thread or tuts this would be apreciated.
Thanks guys
windows
till now.........we cant flash windows7 os on Samsung galaxys............why u want to switch over android........which is best os in the world.
windows for smartphone came and almost gone, nobody even noticed. Android is amazing and best.

Because windows isn't open source, like android, I think that it impossible to port it to other devices.

Not impossible, it's been ported to HD2. And other phones I believe but i know for sure Windows 7 was not meant to be on HD2
I hate windows phone os
I don't think he was asking or opinions of the OS. I think he was inquiring to see if it was possible. I to would like to try this to see or myself and not take others word for it. I will search for a solution and update this thread with what I find.
Edit: It seems that it is not possible currently. However, there are developers that are working on a solution to that problem The main problem is the hardware that was not intended for Windows that is equipped to run Android OS. Hopefully there is spark at some point. There is a lot of talk though that Microsoft is trying to bully their way into having smartphone manufacturers load thee OS and allowing the consumer to be ale to dual boot. That article can be see over at many tech blogs including Znet.
Till now, there is not any known method to do this. Android OS is the best OS in the world. Almost every application is available for android. Also it is most customisable. I would recommend you to stay with Android and install WP launchers to get windows phone like stuff/looks
It is interesting which ideas we`ve got :good:
In my opinion:
Microsoft is something for my PC @home, and Android have to run on my device ...
One of my friends have one nokia with WP7 ,looks nice and works good ,he says - but for me nothing gets about Android , but it is only my opinion
To ask the thread:
I have never heard of any way to flash WP 7/8 on Android devices ...
Only device that got WP7 and did not run it natively were the Toshiba TG01 and the legendary HD2
So sorry, not happening as it's closed source
if its possible on hd2 its possible on devices using same hardware as of windows phone trying to develop a boot loader which helps wp7 bot on our android , any who one can help us with it ???

I just write all my own apps for my WP... Android OS is a little clumsy and I think it's ugly... let me know if anyone finds out how to do this... I'd buy a galaxy in a minute if it weren't for the crappy OS.

Is there a way to install lumia phone's os to android devices like nokia or other device

[q] wp8 & hd2

will the HD2 still run WP8 or is our hardware that old? what would be the minimum phone that can run WP8? :silly:
WP7 is rally fast in the HD2 & it runs really well, i hope the same can be said for wp8.
If you currenty own a Windows phone, it can NOT run windows phone 8, thats it.
You must buy a new phone with windows phone 8 on it.

why did u say that? hd2 is a legend. born as wp6.5 device, got android port and now upto 4.0.4, lol it is one of the device that actually run 4.0.4 before any other official updates. and it have fully working wp7.5 tango running on it. and is 8779.8 version update( lol i m not sure if any official updates have gone so far). and i am not planning to mention other os's that runs on hd2.
the only thing that hd2 lacks is current dual/quad cores and gpu's. any how it have a descent cpu of 1ghz single core ( functions flawless upto 1.5 ghz oc) and enough gpu to run wp7.5 pretty fast( even hd7 wont run that much fast).
and i am dam sure hd2 will be running wp8 pretty soon.. ( may be before any official wp8 device!!!!!!!)
+1
I seriously doubt it. The devs have moved on to new devices.
Maybe they'll try to port it but it would be a ton of hard work because they switched from Windows CE to Windows 8 kernel. Also, WP7 only got ported because some drivers from Microsoft got "leaked" since Microsoft were using the HD2 to develop WP7 anyway.
But hey, never say never!
hd2 wp8
I personally think there will be Windows phone 8 interface to HD2
Thread cleaned.
Watch the attitude...
We won't see WP8 for the venerable HD2 because of the simple fact that WP8 has a new kernel. So you would have to rewrite every driver of each hardware component like CPU, Radio, GPU, Wifi, Bluetooth etc. And I really doubt someone will accomplish that.
Guys Just relax,There's DFT
I belive there will be a new MAGLDR version when wp8 is on the way of HD2.
Lets see. How it goes

Yes the HD2 has been seen running test versions of WP8.
The important question is whether it will be possible to flash it in such a way to make it run on the HD2 once WP8 is out.
MS is very keen on the secure boot feature of the new snapdragon chips which is partly why we won't see WP8 for our current devices.
I hope someone with more knowledge can elaborate on this´.
The chip is called TPM which will be responsible for the secure boot procedure.
http://wmpoweruser.com/trusted-platform-modulethe-secret-of-microsofts-attack-on-rim/
Despite all aspects, if look on new HTC devices specification, clearly HD2 if good enough to run WP8. Spec is same like low new model.
It is just up to guys from Dark Force and others.
Hey guys, as my colleague has already stated above, please watch the attitude and show each other some respsect.

Hey guys, do you think it is worth to buy a HD2 now? I really miss the WM, but I like the WP too, mostly because I already got used with it.
Can the HD2 dual-boot WM and WP? Would not be kinda late to buy one?
Since my 200Mhz Gene is almost useless, and my Lumia won't be upgraded to WP8 anyway, I thought it is a good ideia. What you think?
Thanks.

The OP asks if the HD2 can possibly run WP8. In case you weren't paying attention before launching your tirade, the HD2 is a Windows MOBILE device. As in, started life as a WM6.1 phone and is the only device that has been modified to run Android AND WP7 successfully. It is not a stretch to think that some clever devs will try to do it, purely for ****s and giggles. Forget about different kernels and any other obstacles, that is irrelevant. Being able to proclaim "I did it!" is satisfaction enough.
Good thing hackers don't all think like you, there would never have been an xda.
i remember that when WP7 launched,,some ppl said "WP7 wont work on HD2 cuz hardware stuck, new file structure bla bla bla,,, " ,, now when i see ppl talking about WP8 wont work on HD2 cuz new kernel and bla bla,, its being funny... This is XDA,, dont be precise when you talking about "hacking"... i am sure if XDA devs want to make it works on HD2 they will do it,, remember Android and WP7 on HD2 process.. yes devs move to new devices,, yes HD2 is pretty old,, but HD2 is a legend,, i can tell that some devs gonna try just because its HD2... wm6.5 wp7 and android,, why not WP8??
Because WP8 is a completely different OS, altogether.
Giving it to current devices as a scaled version as 7.8 is the most they could do.
Now, its a OS, proper modding and changes could get it to the HD2 or even the current devices, except the GPU rendering, its too much for a single core.
The most you will get is the HS and integrated stuff, you wont be able to play the games WP8 devices can play!
this is still a 50:50 thought.
