Locked Phone - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My daughters Motorola X 2nd Gen (XT1095) seems to be locked. When you touch the screen all that shows is the time and a padlock. If you try and slide the padlock up, down or to the left or right the date shows at the top and the battery shows but it will not proceed.
Can anyone tell me what may be happening and how to fix it?
Thanks

I would first hold down the power until it turns off. It sounds like a restart is in order

Restarted it several times, results are the same, still locked.

Sorry to hear that. I didn't see it in your post so I started with square one troubleshooting.
How about rebooting to recovery and trying to wipe the cache?

That just means the bootloader is locked. It has nothing to do with the problem you're having. Try a factory reset if wiping caches didn't work.
Sent from my XT1095 using Tapatalk

Get the phone to the bootloader. Open a cmd on your computer and type MFASTBOOT ERASE USERDATA. that'll factory reset it for you.

45 minutes still no boot.

Wiped data cache AND dalvik, flashed to Malladus, installed GApps and LGApps at the same time. Been sitting at the android animation for at least 45 minutes all three times and still wont boot. I'm downloading stock image but was hoping someone had an experience similar and had an easy solution?

And now I offically think my phone is screwed. I cant boot into recovery, every time I try it wont enter and just reboots because I'm holding the power and volume down buttons. So far I don't think I can enter download mode either.

How to get into TWRP with hardware keys on G2
1. Make sure phone is completely powered down.
2. Press and hold the Volume down button and the Power button.
3. When the LG logo is displayed release the Power button only then immediately press and hold the Power button again.
4. Release both buttons when the Factory Hard Reset screen displays.
5. Press the power button three times, like it says. Even though it says it will delete everything, it won't (I can confirm that if you are at least on v2.6.3.2).
6. After a "factory reset processing" appears, you should get the TWRP flash screen, and you are good to go.

Thanks for replying. I've read how to get into the recovery menu many times. Something is wrong with my phone that prevents me from doing it. I'm assuming its hardware related. I was almost ready to give up yesterday when I found out that if I do the key combo while plugging it into USB, it enters the menu normally. At that point I was able to restore my backup and start again.
I think my phone has a fluke, but I've figured out a way around it.
For those who are using Malladus on Verizon, something was wrong with the radios in the set. I had to find a seperate KK baseband file for the VS980 and flash it over top of the ROM to get it to work. I'm not saying its the same results for everyone, but I tried every variant of his directions (just in case) and was unable to get LTE online. It was the seperate BB file later on that fixed it.

[Q] Startup Problem

My Motorola Atrix Hd won't boot up every time I turn the phone on the m logo shows up then goes to the recovery screen that have a red triangle their and stay their for a wild then goes back to the m logo how do i fix the problem
If it keeps going to recovery, you could try wiping cache and Dalvik to see of that happens. If this doesn't help, you may need to wipe the data partition too. If that doesn't help, you may have to re-flash the stock ROM.

When you boot your phone, it goes right to the dead android all the time? If it does, that is recovery mode. I think you press the volume up key, select the option to wipe data, and reboot.
Special boot modes
Recovery: Hold Volume Down & Power simultaneously.
Bootloader: Hold Volume Up Volume Down & Power simultaneously. On the next screen use Volume Down to scroll to bootloader and then use Volume Up to select.
Fastboot: Hold Volume Up Volume Down & Power simultaneously. On the next screen use Volume Down to scroll to bootloader and then use Volume Up to select.

What ROM was your phone running? Does it have an unlocked bootloader? Did this happen after you did something to the ROM?
I am also have startup problems.
I manually restarted my phone and it fell into a black screen. No logo motorola. I made all [power + volume (+, -)] => My phone booted into normal.
The cause of this problem?
Since I have a problem I did not start that way anymore: Power -> Reboot
Instead I just power off.

[Q] 5.0 OTA, and other stuff.Fastboot

Hi everyone,
I was so glad to received 5.0 OTA yesterday, and install it immediately (version 22.21.11 after updated). But I experienced a lot of problems, so I went to Moto and they tell me to perform a partition wipe. Here is the thing, after I follow their operation tips, my phone won't show me the secret menu, so I can't perform partition wipe, and my phone just keep doing some weird things like killing the background apps. Most frustrating thing is that I cannot even launch the camera using the magic twisting gesture!
Anyone can get into the secret menu under the recovery mode? I don't want to unlock my bootloader yet. Thx
update: after google for a while, there is a new way to find the secret menu according to shamelin73

What do you mean " secret menu?"
The recovery list?

yeah! the menu to let me do the partition wipe... I press Vol UP key for several seconds and press power key, nothing happened.
When I boot into fastboot I use vol. Up+Down and power for 3-5 seconds.

Get to your boatloader first, select the recovery tab. Once the android comes up with "no command"
Push the power button first, while doing that, press the volume up.
That'll put you into recovery.
(You don't have to hold the power button for a few seconds...it just has to be pushed first)

[Q] Need bootloop help

I'm trying to remotely help a friend with a Nexus 6 stuck in a bootloop. The phone is new, just out of the box. He accepted an OTA update before doing anything else, so no USB debugging (or anything else) was set. Now it's stuck in a bootloop.
Is there a step by step guide available to allow flashing a factory image in this situation. Everything I find so far requires USB debugging to be set first. Or, are we talking brick? Returning the phone would be very difficult.

If I were your friend I would put the phone back in the box take it back to the store and demand a brand new one immediately that shouldn't be happening on the stock device

Unfortunately, he bought in the US and is now far outside the US. That's why returning would be difficult.
Dam. Can he boot to the bootloader.

He can do each of these steps but when it reboots after #6 it goes back to the dead robot and "no command"
1. With the phone powered off, press and hold the Volume Down button and the Power button at the same time until the device turns on. You will see the word "Start" with an arrow around it.
2. Press the Volume Down button twice to highlight "Recovery mode"
3. Press the Power button to restart into Recovery mode. You'll see an image of an Android robot with a red exclamation mark and the words "No command."
4. While holding down the Power button, press the Volume Up button.
5. Use the volume buttons to scroll to "wipe data/factory reset" and press the Power button to select it.
6. Scroll down to "Yes - erase all user data" and press the Power button to select it.

On the "no command" screen, hold power, push volume up and reenter recovery. Select reboot system. See if the phone boots up.

At this point, you must connect to a PC and see if you can get fastboot to recognize the device. Then we can proceed.
Will the Nexus Root Toolkit http://www.wugfresh.com/nrt/ work even though USB debug has not been turned on?

USB debugging does not have anything to do with being in fastboot or recovery. As long as the proper drivers are installed, your computer can recognize it and you can use fastboot in bootloader.

[Q] Flashed Root IMG Unable to Wipe Cache

Hello all,
I used Mofo to flash Computerfreek274's image 1.5.3a. His thread states that the cache needs to be wiped after flashing. While still in fastboot mode, and after flashing the image, I used the volume keys to select Recovery. Hit the power button and then I have an image of an android that fell over and a red exclamation over it. No text on screen. If I use the volume keys, nothing happens. If I hit the power button the phone turns off.
What step did I miss in the instructions? Or what is the correct procedure to wipe the cache?
Thank you,

Thank you! I have it wiping now. Initially, from a powered off phone, I tried your steps, but that just booted the phone. For other newbies, here is a more detailed process.
WIth the phone powered off, hold Vol-Down, then press the Power button (while still holding Vol-Down). Release both buttons. Fastboot mode starts. Use vol (arrow) keys to select Recovery mode, then pressed power button. Motorola logo appears, and then the android with the red exclamation mark. No text on screen. Hold down Vol-Up for a few seconds, then press power (while still holding Vol-Up).
Now there is text on screen. Use vol keys for arrow button and highlight "wipe cache partition." Use power button to select this option.
Screen changes to Android standing up with a blue bar at the bottom of the screen.
Now wait. Other threads have stated the wipe may take 30 minutes to complete. Phone should power off once wipe is complete.
Thank you,

Just an update, my wipe completed. It did not take very long. The phone restarted on its own and came right up. Everything working at this point.
