Back Cover Unevenly Glued - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My back cover for the Nexus 6 seems unevenly glued, the top left corner has a slightly bigger gap in between the metal frame compared to the rest of the panel. I am afraid the back cover would peel off over time. Is this an indication of the peeling back covers users reported a while back? Thanks in advance.

Or it could be the sign of an expanding battery, which is also a known issue. Consider doing a RMA.

It's definitely separating, but I've seen worse. I'd RMA if it was me though.

The problem with RMA is that this phone was given to me as a gift. It was bought in another country through Amazon, so I'm not sure how RMA would work. I would prefer not to RMA if I don't have to. Do you think it is expanding more?

None if Amazon will take it back and it not past the return window. If past the return window has to be fixed under Moto warranty.

Ok Gotcha! I believe I am still in the return window, however, the phone was bought from Amazon in another country, not sure if they would do much. Hopefully Motorola will offer something. Now that I inspect the phone, it appears if the panel is fully glued to the aluminum frame, there gaps here and there. I would have thought Motorola fixed this issue in production, since it was reported long ago.

Oh, ok. That is a bit comforting to hear, however, how are the sides of the phone? On mine at least, the left side of the back panel has a slight gap in between the aluminum frame.

My sides are good. No gaps. Once battery starts swelling it usually pretty fast and pronounced. Usually have battery problems also.

I have yet to experience that yet, however, I may consider trying to return the phone. The issues seems like it will worsen

Do you guys think I should RMA

I'm having the same issue, except with mine it's the sides of the phone. I just contacted Motorola and they are shipping me a replacement.

Mine creaks on the left hand side and so does my friend's. Seeing as it doesn't have any effect on functionality, we're perfectly fine with them. My friend's first one had a volume problem where it muted it self permanently every time the screen locked. They seem to have a lot of design issues.
Kinda dissapointed but for 250...... should I be picky? They told me if I had anymore problems I would have to send it in. That's garbage imo.
Mine is perfect. No creaks. I must be lucky.

I've had 2 and both were creeky...
Other than that no issues...
Did I mention that my back cover seems to be lose or has a lil Play? I guess that is better than the creeking.
The creaking was driving me nuts, took the thing apart and wedged a small piece of paper between two plastic bits at the corners of the lanyard hole.

That danged 'feature' seems to be the cause. mine creaks on the bottom near it.
I have 2 nook colors and mine has a slight creak when I squeeze the top and put my ear against it but not really noticeable. Other than that all is great, I guess I am just lucky.

Forget that, Until my "30 day money back thing" is over id take it in everyday, maybe that B&N/BB/Walmart just cant stock shelves right.
Once thats over then youve got your 1-year warranty for sending it in.
And im not picky, mine creaks but Hardware problems like a button not working is unacceptable, for 250 I expect at least one year of use.

On my second. First had a faulty volume button. This one has the creaking, but I can live with that.

Same here. I had this same issue with my galaxy epic4g...using a defective usb cable...i can live with the wonky kb while bein charged...just curious as to what it might be.
Maybe I'm lucky, but I don't have any of the problems listed here. I received my NC as a Christmas gift. It was even wrapped by B&N too! The only "problem" I've noticed is some very slight light bleed at the top center.

Tiny gap at the top speaker? Heat it up?

i have a tiny gap on the top speaker, and i am thinking about heating the top speaker up and then clamp it over the night, you think that will solve the gap problem?
or do you have any other suggestions
I have the same problem on my original and the warranty replacement I received. The replacement is actually worse plus looks like the entire front screen is on crooked. I'd also be interested to know if this would work.

Why didn't you complain about the replacement being worse than the original? You're supposed to receive a device that doesn't have any problems, hence the 'replacement'.

I spoke with HTC and was told the gap wasn't part of their gapless design. Yeah, I'm confused on that one. But they did want pictures of the screen to see where it was crooked. I am waiting to hear back from them. Either way, I'll be requesting another replacement.

[Q] Back Cover Lifting

The back cover on my Nexus 6, acquired directly from Motorola, has begun lifting, from both the right and left edges. It appears to be affixed with some sort of adhesive, as I'm able to press it back into place, but shortly after it just begins lifting again. I do have an extended warranty with Motorola, that I purchased with my Nexus 6, and I have contacted them for replacement, though I'd like to understand the issue, and whether it might recur. Has anyone else experienced this problem, and could it possibly be related to my SlickWraps carbon wrap?
May I have slick wraps carbon with no issues. Could be the battery expanding issue.

Yes. Rare, but yes, it has happened. Motorola/Google are replacing it without any issues though.
I've had 2 phones replaced with this issue. My first replacement phone already had the back cover lifting right out of the box

Yes, through Motorola (I purchased the phone through T-Mobile though). And no, there is no cost. However, if you want to do an advance replacement (where they send you a device first, then you send yours after) they will put a $500+tax hold on a credit card until they receive the device.

Note 9 Lightbleed issues!

So I upgraded from my Note8 and found that the 9 has some pretty bad light bleeding. It's symmetrical on both left and right, at the bottom and top part of the screen edges.
Not sure if I wanna get a replacement but you can even see it in broad daylight if you angle it correctly. It's quite annoying tbh.
Aside from that I love the phone.
Anyone had such issues yet?
Go return it and ask for a new one. My Note 9 has no lightbleed at all

I have a minimalistic case on it but that doesn't hide it. I don't like covering the sides that much, makes the curved design obsolete.
Wow. Another person that had to start his own thread when there are others on same issue here.

Unfortunately, Samsung is not accepting that the screen is defective.
My N9 was two times in service, I spoke with Samsung's support via email and phone, still nothing.
"That is the feature of curved display" they say.
Thats ****talk, I say.
When my phone arrive again, I will go directly to the import company to complain there.
I have a bit of it, one of the first-batch Exynos 128/6 units I guess. Not a huge deal for me, my Xperia Z5 came back from repair with a larger gap, the repairman said he couldn't get it to fit without damaging the panel as the frame was warped... lol
but I do wonder how water-resistant it will be...
Oh, wow. I also have it on my N9. Looks exactly the same as on my N8. But, like most of us, I put a case on my phone. I never rock it without a case. Just strange that this continues to be an issue. Makes the phone look a bit defective. Some cosmetic issues like this can do that. Make it look a bit cheap.

Screen lifting on Rog 2

Greeting all! I've had my Asus Rog 2 for a little over a month I'd say. I have the proper Republic of Gamers version. I've noticed on the left side, where the attachment port is. An amount of flex in the screen along the seal. It's probably only a millimetre or so. But it flexes up and down when pressed, seeable from a side on view. The other side where the volume and power buttons are does not that this flex. There is also a light difference to sound when tapping that side of the phone while typing. Which I can only put down to the slight screen compressing on the left. I'm not sure how I can to notice it. Some people have said it might be an intentional aspect of the phone to give a small amount of flex/shock absorption but I can't find anything online mentioning it. I'm more leaning towards it being a fault in my phone. It's not once been dropped always been in a case. So yeah. Anyone able to shed light on this?

Finally. Someone with class and crazy sharp senses. I myself have severe OCD. I used to be very verbal about this kind of stuff on the AC forums xD. But on XDA i toned myself down.
First of all. Asus has crap for Quality Control. I had 2 ROGPHONE 2s with different power button height. And in between the lcd and bezel i could see glue. But okay nevermind.
As for the screen lifting near the accessory port, i do not seem to have it. Did you happen to sit on it? Or put the phone in the back pocket? Remembering that this is a tall phone.

Nope! I don't even take the phone to work with me. I swap to my previous phone.

I wouldn't have a clue how. I'm in Australia and I purchased the phone via eBay.

Yeah, it's 100% the screen. You can see the black edge of the screen move up and down from the dark drownish side of the phone. I'll just have to keep an eye on it I suppose. Bit annoying though. Which is why I didn't want to buy the Tencent version. Plus it wouldn't work here correctly without getting into the firmware. I just figured I'd spend the money. Get the good one that'll have no issues. I asked the seller if they had warranty which the answer was no. They referred me to a few companies that do insurance on phones.
I've never bought a real expensive phone before, and my previous phone was 4 or 5 years old. It was an S5.
So it is annoying. But other than that I don't have any complaints about it.

You seriously dont know how comfortable your comment has made me after reading it. I have always had this habit of checking my belongings (from my phone to my own body and muscles) to make absolutely sure there isnt a single even slighgest problem with it and guess what, there always is something to notice for me!
One of the reasons why I had never opted for an oled phone knowing I will notice the burn-ins one day when there isnt any other person who notices them.
Now I finally decided to go for this phone with the assumption that asus knows how to make gaming stuff, but now I can see several issues already, from the obvious red tint to the screen having lots of bandings and horizontal lines on lower brightness on gray color.
Now I can also feel the volume buttons not needing the same pressure and of of them being softer and also the rgb light on the back being poorly so when the light turns on there are some dots around it that also light up(i know that its only a white paper behind the back glass so if there are any print issues they will also light up)
Althought I dont have any serious issues(yet), im definitely not buying another phone from asus or any other not that famous brands for that matter. My last device was a sony x compact which I had for 3 years from when it came out and I still regret selling it, it was so damn perfect.
Btw, thanks for lettin me know that there is a disorder named OCD, I dont know why I hadnt searched about it already.

Hi, well thats quite a positive feedback. I had quite a backlash at AC forums. I've had people say that I'm making AC look like a Mental Issue Forum and some user even boasted how happy his credit card is if he buys a new phone when the old 1 is damaged.(credit card lol) Btw, i wouldn't say its a disorder. Different people have different standards. For me the Mercedes Benz S Klasse might be perfect, but for you it might not be.
And my OCD is definitely worse than yours. My phone can only be touched by me, and me myself dont touch the physical buttons(I'm afraid that it will be damaged).
And never feel alone about something. There will always be somebody out there having the same issue but not posting on the forums xD.

Not a fan of DIY.
So I stopped by a phone repair should this Arvo. The guy said to him it looks as though the battery is swelling. He said thats the side the battery is on so that is the most likely reason for it. He asked if the battery life was alright still.
Hard for me to really notice. I only use the phone on weekends and in the afternoons while home. I generally only charge it every second day, and I unplug the charger once it's at 100%. He said it isn't serious at the moment but if I notice battery charge fading fast, or if it swells a lot more to bring it back and he'll be able to put a new one in.
Just my ****ing luck to get shoddy battery, if that's the issue.

You're right it is. Interesting. Awesome. Now I'm back to annoyed and confused. Haha.

Yeah trust me the customer services' first guess is battery swell which basicly doesnt happen soon unless you are always charging your phone while playing and overnight and draining it to the last percentage. But is can happen as a result of physical impact or damage, and when it happens you will most probably notice the shortened battery life so I would say it's not a battery problem unless of course proven otherwise.
