[Q] GApps - Can I Selectively Install Them? - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I haz CM11 on my mini but no Gapps.
Here's the thing: I want GPlay but I don't want all that other crap that comes with GApps (Google+, etc.)
Is this possible or am I stuck installing all the bloatware just to get GPlay?

From this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/reborn-gapps-t3074533 (for Android 4.4.4) you can get different gapps packages. I recommend you to use micro, nano or pico gapps package.

Cannot Install Gapps

I have been trying to flash a new ROM, i have tried at least three different ones, but I am unable to complete the installation. The rom and Gapps are flashed OK, but on first start up the "setup" wizard crashes, irrespective of which ROM i am using, however I can install the ROM on it's own without the GAPPS. Any Ideas?
You did do data, cache, dalvik, preload wipes?
What are gapps?never heard of them!
How do you flash roms?and wich ones have you tryed?

Some roms are not compatible with the latest version of gapps. So try flashing and older version.

Gapps are Google proprietary apps like Google play, talk etc. These does not come with cm roms so they have to be flashed separately

I have been trying the new CM10.1 Roms from SlimRom, Asylum and TeamPassion. The instructions to flash are included on the relevant Post and if you search these forums there are several good posts showing how this is done.
Gapps are zipped files of Google Apps which need to be flashed after the CM rom as the CM Roms do not contain the Google Apps

If you're using the 12-12-12 JB GAPPS, make sure you're on a 4.2.1 ROM like CM 10.1. If you're on 4.1.2, flash the next oldest ZIP from www.goo.im/gapps.

Sorted
Thanks for the responses, all seems to be sorted now, not sure how though !!
Will have to see what happens next time i change ROM and need to install GAPPS
As stated before gapps are the google apps that you flash seperatly from the rom because they are propietary software/ non opensource that cant be included in roms. The gapps are the apps in android such as the play store.

Gapps are a package of google applications : play store, gmail, etc. You need To flash this with some custom rooms.

Hi there, you will need the PA GAPPS that are compatible with ART ( 20131111 and up. )
PA Gapps (Zero-day) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2397942
I'm using MoEpDa Tiny Gapps. Tryed with PA also.
Should I change to ART-reset to recovery, fool wife and then instal rom, gapps, su?

Because everything is broken now; full wipe, then flash the pa gapps.

First off. How about credit to HighOnAndroid
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QyXpNhOLr3w&feature=youtu.be
Secondly you need to remove the gapps from the rom for the same reason CyanogenMod doesnt include them in CM. 1+1 is a completely different story.

Google services error after dirty flash..

Makes sense. Just remembered it also happened when updating Pure Nexus as well. Odd it's only happening with the dirty flash and not clean installs tho

Thats because most roms work better imo after a clean install, backup and restore your apps and its data with TB and it only takes about 5 minutes to restore

That's the way I used to do it.. a few phones ago, but I've never really had a problem until now with the dirty flash. I'll try a different gapps package and if that fails TB.. I actually used it recently just because of this issue.
Appreciate the help

"better"? how? i dirty flash just about everything, no issues here, ever. the only issue that i see it being is the gapps package, and that occasionally happens. i did the gapps testing for banks when he started making gapps again. compilation errors do occur on occasion.
even though i do understand what you are trying to say, in reality thete is no " better", theres a done and a not done

How to remove the operator logo? (boot, restart & power off)

Thanks for your answer beerwolf. The phone is not locked, has custom recovery (TWRP 2.8.1.0) and it's rooted.
I have uninstalled a lot of bloatware, around 55 apps, the OS is running more than decent and I'm pleased of it. That's why I'd like to try fixing this ROM, by deleting/modifying certain files, databases, settings. I don't know if it's possible but I said it's worth trying. If it's not possible, I would take into consideration another rom.
If you flash a custom rom & micro or Nano gapps that could save you a lot of time & trouble
