I just installed windows 8 Consumer preview. I had my Galaxy note working before with the USB connection on windows 7, but now after windows 8 is installed over 7 I have a problem connecting my Galaxy note with the computer. It seems that it is an MTP problem or something went wrong after windows eight is installed. I have read on a Microsoft MSDN post that the mtp protocol is not yet supported with windows 8. If there is something that I can use to work around that It would be appreciated. Please help.

Try installing Droid Explorer on your PC.
All of us on ICS Roms have the same USB connection problem, and this little program is the solution. It recognizes our Notes automagically without Windoze drivers.
Don't know if it'll work for you, but it's worth a try.
I will do that. But would it make a difference if I still have GB on my note? Thanks

I had this problem as well, easiest solution is to put the Note in USB Debugging mode, and it will connect with Windows 8 fine.
You can find USB Debugging mode in Settings -->Applications --> Development.
weird, I have a similar problem : I want to install CWM, but "adb devices" doesn't see any devices....I have "USB debugging" checked, I tried to install samsung drivers, Droid explorer, Kies won't install, and it is not recognizes as a device by Windows. Strange thing is, if I remember correctly, I successfully flashed a stock firmware using PC Odin. Any ideas ?
Windows 8 Desktop, ICS Note. Everything's working fine here. Haven't had to install anything on either end to get it to work.
I do have USB debugging enabled though, as suggested above.
i am having the same problem. at 1st win8 detects it and i always charge on it but lately i noticed it does not detect. i went to my home pc win 7 64bit which is detecting before but now i did not detect also. i did everything kies. driver of droid but still the same problem. Weird yet still it charges.

It worked a few times after that when I installed the google driver but now I have the same problem with both windows 7 ultimate 64bits and windows 8 release preview. It is charging but not detected. I also tried different cables with no progress. I sudpect it could be that one of the pins of the note connector is not OK. Can anyone help please

Hi Guys,
So basically I have a P1000 in my hands. I was asked if I could upgrade it to gingerbread since it was running a slow froyo ROM from a Portuguese provider.
The thing is, since the beginning that I don't have access to ODIN. I can go into download mode but the tablet is not recognized in both windows ( USB Not Recognized - Unknown Device ) and linux ( device descriptor read/64, error -110 ).
Since I wasn't able to get in ODIN I used MobileODIN. I was able to flash gingerbread and I was able to boot but something went wrong because on boot and recovery I had colored lines. This was probably a bootloader issue since MobileOdin doesn't flash it.
After it I made the biggest error, I flashed thru MobileOdin the Overcome Kernel. The flash it self went fine and it was booting after but the big problem for me was that it changed RFS to EXT4, changing the partitions it self leaving me locked to that ROM since MobileOdin doesn't partition.
I didn't realized the impact of the kernel at the time and I basically killed the TAB when I tried to go back to froyo using again MobileOdin. It flashed the kernel but then it wasn't able to boot into recovery and the Tab was freezed in "Galaxy Tab" screen.
The thing is, I JUST NEED DOWNLOAD MODE!!! I'm able to get into it but I can't get a way to get recognized by the PC.
The cable it self is working since it worked with ADB,etc in the ROM.
I tried many drivers, with and without kies, and 5 different PCs (Win7x64,x32, XPx32) and no luck.
Was able to try other cable to but I have the same issue.
Basically I think I'm screwed! I don't think any of the bricked guides apply to me since I can go into Download Mode! I just need to get it detected by some OS.
Any ideas? Thanks!
Use linux with heimdall.
Your descriptor issue is probably irrelevant, maybe linux trying to mount the SD card.

Hi!
I already tried heimdall, but the device doesn't show in lsusb.
When using heimdall command line it just says that it doesn't find any device in Download Mode :\
Next thing I was thinking was to take out the battery because I'm really out of options really :|
Not sure if this matters, but I always have this in my machine. (Ubuntu)
create a file /etc/udev/rules.d/51-android.rules
within, add these lines
#Samsung
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", SYSFS{idVendor}=="04e8", MODE="0666"
save the file, then do a /etc/init.d/udev restart
that should make the device hot pluggable, detected, in ubuntu.

You have to install the drivers on windows 8 according to:
1- right click on the setup.exe then select
2- troubleshoot compatibility.
3- run through the wizard selecting that your application was running fine on earlier version of windows ...
Good luck

Hi!
Thanks for the help but are those x64? Was trying to run in XP x32 but it says is not a valid win32 app. I saw they are 1.3.450.0, are they changed? I think I already tried that version without luck :|
Regards.
These drivers I was using on windows 7 without any issues... But after I used windows 8 I couldn't install them...
It is supposed that they are not changed and am using them for the last two years... I tried Odin 3.07 and it also work great for the tab..

Tried removing the battery for some minutes too and still have the same problem.
Do you guys think JTAG could help in this situation?
Thanks

If you do a heimdall flash, does it give error?

Heimdall just says it didn't found a device in Download Mode.
In dmesg the error is " device descriptor read/64, error -110 "
Going for JTAG.
I will let you guys know if it works out.
Thanks for the help

My phone was working fine about 12 hours ago on the same PC, with the same cable. Now it's just charging. Tried a full wipe. Nothing changed :/

I know that on the s3 theres a code you enter in the dailer and you can change some settings there on how your device connects eather that or your drivers on the pc got corrupt. Try reinstalling drivers and google that code maybe there is one for our phone.

I actually solved it.
You just go to Download Mode, connect to USB. It should install a driver. And then it'll be fixed.

So frustrating, but when I tried to update my phone to 4.3 the phone gets to the 2nd dot stops and then restarts with the message 'could not install new software version. Try again'
Has anyone had this problem, and found a solution? It happens everytime I try, updating via the computer via both PCC and flashtool isn't an option because my phone does not respond in flashmode!
also bootloader is locked and no longer rooted
thanks
Install the flashmode and TX drivers from the Flashtool drivers folder and then install the FTF from Flashtool

The problem I am having is updating over the air.. as I said I cannot update using flashtool or PCC because the usb port seems to be faulty
You said that your phone didn't respond in flashmode. How do you charge your phone if the USB port is faulty? Driver problems seems much more likely to me.
Anyway, did you unlock your bootloader or installed a custom ROM/recovery?

Like I've said I haven't messed with the phone at all, with the exception of rooting it.
I also assumed it was drivers but after spending ages playing around with various computers it still wont respond. I also think it's faulty because if I try and charge it using the wall charger when it is switched off, nothing happens whereas it should boot up? The USB port functions perfectly fine when the phone is on
thanks
I have d959 and I want to check if there is a 4.4.2 for me. I tried to check but it say to update the pc suite first. when i try to update pc suite it say:

What exactly did you do?
I'm guessing you have checked your phones android version already?
Why not just check it on the phone thru settings>general>about phone>update center

This has nothing to do with the problem. When I want to update the PC Suite only from 5.3.16 to 5.3.17 (which was necessary to check for updates) I got the above mentioned error. But I could fix this by uninstalling the PC Suite and reinstalling it via the smartphone menu when connectiong to USB,

I'm ALWAYS getting the error when trying to update the PC Suite, have tried in 2 computers, I really don't know how to get it to work. Can you please tell me how you did this?? Thanks!
I was successful when I deinstalled the PC Suite and then connected my phone to the PC and when it gives you the option to install the software from the phone it downloaded the new version from the internet.

I have the LG G3 and that option is no longer present, the one where you chose in pc connection settings "LG Software" and it installs it from the phone to the PC I can't figure out a way to fix it, I've tried everything.

Can you explain please exactly how you did it? I don't have the option to install it from the phone itself, I think this was removed in the G3. I've tried in 3 different laptops and all show the same error.
Edit: finally got it working, it was my antivirus (Bitdefender) that was being an issue. Thanks.
