Is anyone else ticked that they removed the green message letting you quickly differentiate between a hangouts message and an sms? Conversations just look so bland now without that green.. seriously. Besides that, nice update.

I was hoping to see some kind of update to bring it closer to messenger. Like the ability to change colors for contacts and quick reply. Also the only way to differentiate is to see in tiny words: now via sms. It's also quite the lag fest in my Nexus 6 running Chroma. Quite interesting. I would still consider it an upgrade, but a small one at best.

The messages definitely need some color.. I know the tiny words are there, but having color to differentiate and also adding life to the conversation is much quicker and appealing. If you clear app data and cache that should help the performance for you, that's what everyone is recommending in the AP comments.
Gifs not work anymore
The app is so much more laggy than the Google Messenger app. Takes longer to load as well. I don't like how the attachment selection is always shown. Should just be the paper clip to attach.

Gifs work but they don't auto play. You need to click on the gif after its posted. The attachments suck imo now. I restored back to previous version.
I find it pretty confusing. I can't tell if I'm sending an SMS or a hangout message -__-.

yeah, I definitely expected more for this version-the app doesn't feel snappier and from what I have read the IOS version is better...I don't get that - I understand there are a lot of Iphone/Ipad users out there but Google-Android is your baby-why not take care of it first and deliver a finished polished app-we receive the update months after IOS and it's still worse....I am disappointed....sorry for the rant

I recently upgraded to Froyo. So far everything has been great. I have come across a small issue though and was wondering if I'm just over looking the fix. On 2.1 when I composed a new text message the contacts would only display mobile numbers. Now with 2.2 I see all their available numbers. If I'm not paying close attention I'll end up sending a text to someone's home phone and never get a response. Anyone know of a fix to this? Hopefully its just something small I'm overlooking.
Bump. Still have hope.
That's funny cause this was an enormous complainmt by so many people on 2.1. Google fixed it it seems finally. Guess you can't please everyone!

People were complaining that you couldn't compose texts to home phones? I just don't have any use for texting anything other than another mobile.
i much preferred only having mobile numbers come up, seems far more practical but i may be overlooking a use for sending texts to office, home and other land lines... and if the majority prefers it this way then i certainly cant argue with that. Plus ill get used to it it just takes a little longer for each text so not a huge deal, definitely only a "minor annoyance", an annoyance nonetheless

Pretty much sums up my thoughts on the situation. I had just hoped there was a setting or something I was overlooking. Thanks for the replies.
I guess this is good news for people that don't have very organized contacts (like me) where I have a mobile number listed as work/home/etc. I'm pretty sure this has always been an option in handcent though, which in my opinion is far superior to the built in app.
Noblesse Oblige
This application began as a themed method to access the same Siri servers used by Jailbroken iOS devices, but has since grown to surpass even those.
It now has offline recognition, allowing access to everything that is still available without an Internet connection. It has social broadcasting, which allows users to send messages to the others using the application. It also now supports launching applications and improved navigation.
Future features will include leaderboards to resemble the reports given in the show and integration with Facebook and Twitter, to accompany current integration with YouTube.

It wouldn't connect to your server, so I switched it to one of the free English/German servers you have listd and it's working great.
The voice recognition on it is freaking amazing, even if I'm basically whispering.
Great job integrating all these different things together.

Pretty much any server listed will provide the basics, just not the extensions. The only issue I have seen is many of those servers are run from Germany, so grammar isn't always perfect and the commands are unnatural.
I will openly admit that I purchased, tore apart, and then based my application on siri0us, which is partnered with grwh. I have been trying to keep the unthemed portions similar, much like a Siri theme would be to allow people the option of using either application without it being a drastic change or confusing process.
Surprisingly, though, some of the grwh moderators have been the most opposition on this project. Even with the server being open source and the mass amount of updates and improvements I have offered back to them, they have this view that I am trying to profit from their server. The application price is unrelated to the server, but the proceeds are used to maintain it. This comes from sacrificing any profit to provide this service back to the user instead. This issue has been addressed and hopefully does not threaten the development of this project.

Iris is like the original Siri. It only works right on certain devices, the responses are generic, and you get stuck with what they give you, including ads.
On another note, that application forces religion on the user by responding with numerous references to God and Christianity. This is something I feel deserves some sort of disclaimer and isn't really appropriate for applications that span multiple countries and religions.
This works with pretty much anything, the responses vary and are alway being expanded and updated, you can choose the voice engine, the server can be switched, custom responses can be submitted to the server, no religious belief is chosen for the user, and (thanks to the wolfram plugin) you can still ask things like how much caffeine in a mountain dew.

I am working on the app launching as a separate plugin. The reason for this is that the server has no way of handling things like that, so having a launch command pass through the server would be silly. The local plugin will intercept the command instead.
The alternative was to have the server pass back a value that was read to launch the app, but I would be running the only server that handled it. This will provide the best method for adding the functionality to any server someone chooses to use.

Nice, can't wait to try this!
Very nice, downloaded and works perfectly .. thanks for the tip!
The Facebook and Twitter plugins currently return errors when trying to use either of them. This is a known issue that is being addressed and they are still a work in progress.

First of all, great start, but is is possible to customize the theming? Or for that should I go with a different, non-anime themed app?
Also, where is the best place to submit suggestions for responses?

Sirious! is an unthemed Siri client, but with theirs you lose the search button launch, some GPS functionality, orientation handling, and the default server is configured to their public one (which gets rid of the server theme components, but also most of the plugins and improvements to the server).
In the app menu, there is a button for custom commands that will take you directly to the page to submit custom responses, or under "Interactions" on the main site listed in the first post. If you mean altering the server responses for other things, you can suggest them through the "Contact Developer" link on Google Play's app page or the site "Resources".
Removing the theme would make this just another bland Siri clone, and that was the whole point of developing a new one. If the theme is really that much of a problem or makes you feel uncool, you may want to wait until sirious! updates their app for Siri servers or try Skyvi, Assistant, Ever Friends, Iris, or any other "generic" voice assistant app.

Anyway, the main issue I had was with setting alarms and sending texts, neither of which I could manage to do.

I would have done Alfred and the Bat communicator if I really wanted to meet the Warner Bros. legal team. Anime companies tend to be less strict when it comes to "fan creations" but it's often an issue with those themes being considered "lame" by the general public. I tried not to go too crazy but not make it just a background that didn't fit anything else.
I did catch some errors on alarms that are being looked into and texts seem to be hit or miss. Both are plugins issues with the server so they will get fixed without having to update.

Yeah, the old famous marvel lawsuits. shame on them.
Anyway, one thing that you should probably look at is the landscape mode. Right now it just stretches the background image, which looks terrible. I had some more response oddities, but I assume you can get those from server logs.

Just google it and you'll find the answer
It seems Microsoft has told Whatsapp to disable the app from running all the time. The app uses too much energy which drains all the battery. So Whatsapp announced they will make a new version of the app available within 3 weeks. The bad thing though, there's a big chance whatsapp won't give real time push notification's after this update but will be refreshed on time bases. Which could mean you'll get messages 5 minutes late or anything like that. I'm not sure how the iOS version of whatsapp works? Does that one run all the time ass well, for push notifications I mean?
Let's just hope Real Time Push Notification's won't go away, because it would be a terrible cost. I'm glad Whatsapp improved speed on WP7 though. Whatsapp on my Lumia 920 works incredibly fast compared with the old version of whatsapp on 7.5. And this means it will go faster when the update is available.

just got answer from WhatsApp Support saying that it does not work well in WP8 and they do not know if and when it would return to the market. it seems this app is doomed for now. will have to find alternate app or move to IOS or Android
Hey Guys I've got this as an answer when I tried to ask them what was going on:
Hi,
Thanks for your message. Sorry, WhatsApp is not fully supported on Windows Phone 8 and we cannot comment on future timelines.
If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us. We would be happy to help!
I'm not quite familiar with the exact figure's of how much use is made of whatsapp amongst the competition (Android and IOS) But I think you could reason not having a decent operating Whatsapp would damage WP's position on the market seriously. Whatsapp is immensely popular in the region I live in. So why would Microsoft try to limit or block such a program?
Anyhow I got my Android 4.1 update on my htc one X on December 5th, which is a holiday over here in the Netherlands would be a good thing to have Whatsapp on WP8 before Christmas Eve. My Htc X8 is currently not more than just a palmtop which I can use as a phone...
Cheers Buck
1. Got the HTC One from AT&T yesterday. Though I don't take too many pics with my phone, but i still wanted a phone which could take atleast half decent pics. And with HTC One, I'm terribly disappointed with the pics. My old iPhone 4 had much much muchhh better picture quality than One!
I'm surprised how this camera is compared to Galaxy S4 and iPhone 5 when iPhone 4 takes better pics than this!
I donno if I'm missing some setting, as of now I'm using the cam with all default settings (Scene mode-Normal, etc).
2. Coming from an iPhone, another most important "loss in quality" feature is mail/gmail app! I'm shocked to see how ultra crappy gmail app is on android! I can't believe that Google was not able to build a half decent mail app for android.
I was trying the Mail app of HTC and when I configured my mail as Gmail, it din't send me the push notifications. When I tried to configure as Microsoft Exchange, it kept giving me some "Please try again later" error. Also, the mails were only displaying text and no images (despite selecting 'Maximum Size' in receive mail settings), kinda reminded me of my 10 year old Sony Ericsson phone which used to display mails without any images.
3. Why can't i take pics using volume keys?!
After almost 2 days of usage, these are some of the MAJOR quirks and I hope can be solved.
I actually looked at your two other posts on XDA and I don't *think* you're trolling. I think you just don't like how some of your first few pictures came out. And some other stuff. You know, coming from iOS to Android is going to take some adjustment generally- instead of rushing to XDA to post a thread about 'I'm overwhelmed with how much this sucks' maybe just take one thing at a time.
Anyway, as for the camera, a) be specific with what you don't like [ie maybe it's just you] and b) did you check software version [ie maybe it's just the software]. Everyone seems to think the camera got better with version 1.29 . If you've already got that, not sure what to tell you. If everything's functioning as intended and you still hate it, return it. Life is too short to hate your phone.

You can download the gmail app from the play store if you don't like the built in htc mail app...
I find that the HTC mail app out classes the mail app for iOS by a long shot. I hated the mail app. On iOS. I never liked the Gmail app on either platform though.
Also you have to be joking about the iPhone 4 having better picture quality. I've done many test shots between the two and the iPhone 4 produces so much noise it's insane, sucks in low light, and even didn't get as much detail as say photos. Don't know how you are even getting remotely close results with the iPhone 4.

Why do you say that? The only thing I see that separates VZW messages + is it works/syncs with your other VZW devices. I used it for a while with my tablets and watches. I say this because I like it better than Samsung's offering. I don't care about blocking texts, as I don't find myself in the need for something that does that. I've also found that it works a lot more quickly on my Note 4. I always had a bit of lag with the Samsung messenger.
And I do love the integration with other devices. I have it installed on all of my computers, tablets, etc. It works well on any device.
