Ok guys I have read alot about downgrading with stock firmware. However, when i try it it fails and soft bricks my phone only way i bring it from death is to put 5.0 back. Is there really a way to downgrade to 4.4.2 or 4.4.4 . ...
If I read then u know if u got 0f3 bootloader on 870a, are 0c4 bootloader on 900a then there no way to downgrade.

Yes and No
No you can not flash the complete 4.2.2 PCU package it will fail because you can't downgrade the bootloader
Yes because you can flash everything but the bootloader and it will take but if you accidentally take a OTA. you will brick your device.
but if you are able to unlock your bootloader then why would you want to downgrade. with a unlocked bootloader you will be able to root 4.4.2 with no issues
because when I was on 4.4, I had some battery consumption and heating issues also bluetooth was not perfect, I just wanted to make sure I have a way back To 4.2.2
also, not being able to downgrade the bootloader, in which way does this affect me going back to four point 4.2.2?
Your phone will work fine but like i said if you ever take a ota it will brick your phone

No. Once you start mixing bootloader versions with system file versions (i.e. 4.4.2 bootloader with 4.2.2 system files), RSD Lite won't work. You will have to use a command line and mfastboot.exe to manually flash each partition.
And I actually tried to run 4.2.2 (post camera update) system files with a 4.4.2 bootloader and it would not boot; however, 4.4 system files do work with a 4.4.2 bootloader.
This has actually been discussed at great length and detail in this forum and A LOT of people were bricking their phones playing around with bootloader versions, just like you are talking about doing. At one point there was a sticky dedicated to it, but its since disappeared from the board for some reason.
To put it simply, please don't start mixing bootloader versions with system files. If you like 4.2.2, don't upgrade to 4.4.2. If you are on 4.4, then you can still downgrade to 4.2.2 (post camera update version). Do that and stay there. But if you upgrade to 4.4.2, don't fool around with it and start trying to downgrade. There is no point, and you will likely end up bricking your phone.
It's your phone, so do what you want, but you have been warned (by someone with personal experience by the way). If you do brick it, please don't start another "OMG! HELP ME!! I BRICKED MY PHONE!!" thread. There's plenty of those already floating around here. :good:
Hi All,
I had S5 on 4.4.2 . Upgraded to 5.0 in following manner using OTA packages - using stock recovery
4.4.2 -> 4.4.4 -> 5.0
I would like to downgrade back to 4.4..4
Which method can I follow?
Want to downgrade because QXDM mode is not working in 5.0
Thanks
Not possible yet , I can't find a 4.4.4 firmware or tar file to try either . I Ave tried everything else I could find
The bootloader on 5.0 makes it impossible to downgrade. There are multiple threads about it.
No solution as of yet, and possibly never will be. They locked the piss out it.
i heard once you upgrade you cannot go back but my bootloader is unlocked so i should be able to downgrade without problems.
but i wanna know if is true that phone may get bricked if i try downgrading.

Downgrading is not what bricks you. Trying to upgrade via OTA after a downgrade causes bricks. So if you downgrade, don't upgrade again by OTA or it might brick.

Hmm what about if if downgrade then later i upgrade to 5.0.2/5.1 manually and then an ota is release. Will i get brick if i try to update?
It depends on if gpt or motoboot change. If they change, yes you risk a brick. If no, then no problem.
However I can't read the future, we don't know if they will change or not until motorola releases new versions. So using OTA is your risk. Downgrading is not supported by motorola, in the release of new versions they say you can't downgrade. We ignore them, and do it anyway... if we brick it's our fault not motorola's.

Its better to stay on Lollipop than downgrading to kitkat.

Okay, trying to be as brief as possible. I started out with stock 4.4.4, then unlocked bootloader and rooted it and such. I unrooted it, then updated it to 5.0.2 LP OTA. Decided that I didn't like Lollipop, so I restored it back to stock 4.4.4 KK using the official firmware for my device (retuglb). Everything flashed okay except for the bootloader, in which it gave me "Preflash validation failed", which supposedly happens when you try to downgrade from Lollipop to Kitkat. My phone is working just fine though. So now I want to upgrade to Lollipop again via OTA. What are my chances of hard bricking the device? I just read some posts here that people bricked their Moto G2 via OTA to 5.0.2. One guy restored to stock 4.4.4 then OTA'd to 5.0.2 and it bricked his device. Will that happen to my if I OTA update my device again? Please answer. Thanks.
Dont ota update

You can flash stock 5.0.2 by fastboot mode

Oh no, don't OTA your phone this is just how I Bricked mine (XT1063), If you want to go to Lollipop again use the fastboot-script method, there is a lot of info about that in the forum.

So is it hard bricked or soft bricked? Are you still using the XT1063?

It is hard bricked and I never found a solution. I still have it but is worthless.
I have a Galaxy S5 (G900A), rooted on Lollipop 5.0 (0F3) using prerooted firmwares to upgrade from rooted kitkat. My bootloader version is still OA1. I want to downgrade now to kitkat so i can use safestrap. I was wondering if i could downgrade using the G900A_Downgrade_to_NCE.tar mentioned here and here, since i still have to OA1 bootloader, to downgrade without bricking my phone.

Yes you can use that downgrade file. I have used it many times. Your phone might run real laggy though after you downgrade. There is a thread somewhere that shows how to fix that issue. I'll see if i can find it for you.
