[Q] Device Protection? or where is Re-Activation Lock? - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I can't seem to find the option for the re-activation lock like with Note 4 anymore, although might not be such a bad thing if it can be somehow bypassed... However, since 5.1 google introduced the "Device Protection", which is supposedly a form of reactivation lock, but implemented by google. Does anyone know if it is implemented in our Note5? Or anyway to check it?

How to disable lockscreen password? Version 4.0.3

I made the the mistake of activating the lockscreen password feature of my Galaxy Note and now I can't seem to deactivate the feature. When trying to turn off screen lock password under the security menu - you will see in the screenshot that it "deactivate" option is greyed out.
Anyone know why its like this? How to go around this problem? By the way, I am using ICS Version 4.0.3.

Nope its not a custom ROM. I'm using the official update from Samsung.
setting - security - screen lock - select None
Edit : sorry just now seen screenshot, its not available for you.
are using any password storage appl n deleted it?
I think wiping can solve this, but not advisable on ICS.
have you tried changing the option ? Like selecting Pin Number, Then see if 'None' becomes selectable ?
Sure is strange

Hi,
If you go to the samsungdive.com website and register your device, you will be able to reset any activation priorly set with the remote 'unlock screen' feature.
Pierrick
Thanks for all the replies. Was able to finally reset the "unlock screen" by doing it via the samsungdrive website. Now its back to its default setting which is "swype". Thanks all!

Thanks a lot. Using an exchange account locked the screen of a Note 2. This was the solution.

Same happened to me, not sure whether you've had solved yours.
Anyway, go to Setting<Security<Clear credentials
i know this is an old post, but i faced somewhat of a similar problem. couldnt select any option but pin and password, everything else was greyed out.
go to settings---->security---->clear credentials (at the very bottom)
its caused by some certificate which doesnt let u remove lockscreen. hope it helps.

Android 4.3: No way to disable the lock screen anymore?

Just upgraded to Android 4.3 (stock HTC ROM) and there must be a bug because I can no longer disable the lock screen. I'm not talking about the pin/pattern lock screen but the swipe up to unlock lock screen (with the icons in the bottom). If I go to Settings > Security and chose to disable the lock screen it doesn't make any difference.
Can someone else please confirm that this is a bug before I wipe my phone?
Doesn't look like a bug, looks like HTC is being responsible and not allowing a phone to not have any security on it. Makes sense IMO

Exactly! And when you bundle your favourite apps in groups on the dock you can just swipe up that folder to get access to it. Quite nifty I would say

There's a free app in the market called 'no lock' if you want to bypass the lock screen..

My guess is that they removed a lot of things (in 5.5) because most people didn't even use them or know about them. I don't see why you wouldn't want a lock screen though xD

Well, if there is an option for something that doesn't do anything I consider it a bug. Swipe-to-unlock doesn't add a lot of security imho.

The thing is that the options is there but doesn't do anything. I have my phone 95% of the time on my desk/table next to me and I just find it unnecessary to unlock with a button and then swipe. Whenever I leave home I have it in a tight case so there is no risk on me touching buttons by misstake.

Oh, I see what you meant above now.. But the point is, for a lot of folks the lock screen is pointless. It's just an uneccesary extra step to get to what you want on your phone. Especially now that most phones have pocket detection so there's no worries of pocket dialing anymore. I personally find it annoying and not at all needed. Just one less thing to waste my time and battery.
I guess i can see the usefulness of it though in some situations, I.E. Nosy girlfriend/boyfriend mainly. Lol

I understand what you're saying, and I don't use any sort of security on my phone, but I'd still prefer to have the slide to unlock as opposed to nothing at all. I suppose it's each to their own but IMO HTC have decided to take the option out to possibly cover themselves from unhappy customers - I dunno...
HTC_001 just got the update and now being forced to have a lock screen when it doesn't add any security seems a waste of time, everyone knows how to unlock a phone so it's not going to stop anyone getting in, the choice should be left up to the end user, default it to on and that should cover them enough. Next they'll force everyone to have a pin to unlock their phone.
No Lock app works fine and the fact 1-5mill people have downloaded it shows that they have made a mistake here.
No lock, no thanks
Works awful. Just used it for about 5 minutes and it made my phone behave erratically. Seeing as it hasn't been updated for years, it's no surprise. Good luck with it...couldn't even launch apps from the notifications screen without it loading the home screen, locking it and then turning the screen off. Disabled it and then removed it and all is right again on my phone.
Why not accept peoples wish
No lock works fine - and about the security issues people have here:
I never lock my phone with a pattern, pin, code or something.
If you keep sensitive data on it - your fault. You know that it is public if it is on your phone (as we learned from the NSA).
If you don't, leaving your phone unlocked gives you at least the chance that if you loose it and an honest person finds it, he or she will be able to return it to you by contacting "Mum" or "Sweety" from the Contacts. An unhonest person would simply factory-reset it. Right?

Been working perfect on my phone (and others members here) for months. There's no need to update an app often when it does such a simple task. Does exactly what it says. Couldn't ask for anything more from it.

You obviously don't program. And it's great that it works for you, however it is apparent from the thread and the comments in the play store that the app has issues. The app certainly doesn't work for me on multiple devices. So I could certainly ask for more, seeing that it simply doesn't work reliably at all in my testing. But since it looks to be abandoned it's not something I expect. That's not a big deal for me at all because it's an app I simply tried but not one I plan on using.

Smart Lock Disappeared

Hey everyone so I've had my phone set up with Smart Lock with my Moto 360.. I also have it to be unlocked in Trusted Places such as my home. But just an hour ago it disappeared. Couldn't find a thread on this so maybe its just me?
Anyone else having this issue?
Edit: Only Thing I can think of is I updated to the New Google Play Services 6.5.88. Can anyone confirm this if you're on 6.5.87
Thank you!
When I updated mine it took away the face unlock specifically. I uninstalled all updates and reinstalled it again to get the functionality back.

Lol damn Uninstall is not highlighted... Meh
If you are on a custom ROM, then check the Google Services Framework database gservice.db. In the main table there is a switch field to enable hardware location smart lock.
The exact field name is:
location:enable_hardware_geofencing
It has to be set to true for trusted places to work. I have found that it is not always set to true and the smartlock trusted places function simply is not there.
Try clearing your data on google services framework if you don't have face unlock.
Hmm, I am on a custom ROM (Rastapop) and I don't have the Face Unlock feature (I have Smart Lock though). All my apps are updated. How can I check Google Services version, how can I update it and how do I get face unlock again?
I'm running 5.0.2 btw.

OK Google - PROBLEMS

I use ok google all the time to send texts especially when driving. frequently i am getting an error where she says
"actually, i can't do that while the device is locked" after unlocking with fingerprint it isn't recognized that the device is unlocked for some reason
it seems to be a MIUI problem as there is a huge thread http://en.miui.com/thread-274084-1-1.html
anyone know a solution?
also, one suggestion from Google is to just turn on Trusted Voice so that you can use the OK Google command when the device is locked. when i turn this on the OK Google command does not work and is not recognized no matter what screen i'm on let alone with the device locked
anyone ran into similar problems with the Mix?
I have a similar issue...If I disable lock pattern and then re-enable it it will work. A bit of hit and miss really. Would love a proper solution if there is one.

Same. I can't get it working from a black screen. My other devices will wake up and "listen". On the Mix, I have to activate the screen and then say ok google for it to listen. I did the resetting the lock screen and it did help get ok google to listen on the lock screen. So thanks for that.
I also have the same problem with the latest Google app but it works with version 4.92.16 except that I'm not able to use ok Google from screen off. I hope there's a solution to this
Not sure if i just haven't used OK Google enough yet, or if it has legit fixed the problem...but after converting google to a system app i have not run into this error yet with over 20 times using OK Google. we will see if it holds up.
did you have this problem before making it system app and went away after?
I figured this out.
Browse to Google App > Settings > Voice > "OK Google Detection" and enable "Personal results"
Kind of a workaround, since this allows actions when your device is locked, but works well for me.
I don't have that option for enable Personal results.
I only have
From the Google App
From Any Screen
Trusted Voice
While Driving
All four are enabled.
personal ressults has always been enable and still no joy.
I don't even have while driving.
Only three options.
I don't think it's a MIUI thing. It happens on my Google Pixel XL with the latest Nougat. Same message.

Use biometrics with "swipe" screen lock?

Hi guys, so I've just updated to Oreo, and I found out that I can't use any biometrics anywhere unless I choose a "secure" screen lock! Is there a workaround for this? I've never used neither iris, nor face recognition nor fingerprint on my phone but always on apps. I can't do this anymore, the thing that bothers me the most is that I switched from Chrome to samsung internet to use samsung pass which of course now doesn't work unless I change my lock settings
Yes I'd like to know this. But I'm afraid the answer is no. Oreo is not a good step for Android in my opinion. There are lots of things no longer implimented or have been made clumsy and complicated.
