T3 section - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it possible to get a T3 specific section added on the forums? Note 2 had N7100 and N7105 sections, which made it way easier to find stuff. (I had the 7105)

Just bout everything for the 910 works with the 910T3. What would be the sense in that? I have the T3 and have zero issues.

No NFC (NXP PN544) chip on N7000

Hi all,
I've recently had a look at the review written by Supercurio and there he had stated that the N7000 is packed with the NXP PN544 NFC chip but the pictures taken by ChipWorks (Google for 'Galaxy Note teardown') do not show the chip at all, while it seems to be visible on the LTE official Samsung teardown. There are 64 (8x8) tin connectors where the chip should have been placed and those connectors perfectly fit the PN544.
Please have a look at the pictures that I have collected: h-ttps://picasaweb.google.com/100720874646428902597/GalaxyNoteNFC
The same pictures can be found on ChipWorks, and have a better resolution.
Now my question: which one is exactly the Note that Supercurio has reviewed?
Thanks a lot.
Bye.

The GT-N7000 does not have NFC chip. It isn't compatible with the processor. The ATT note (I think) does. It uses the Snapdragon processor.

Thanks for your answer.
As I've wrote, in the review by Supercurio, that has been published by Engadget, there was a mention about that chip, but together with the N7000 CPU (Exynos 4210).
Anyway why the NFC chip should be connected directly to the CPU?
According to the NFC architecture brief description, the NFC RF is connected to a host controller, which can be the baseband or application processor on a phone or the core CPU on a PC.
On the Note LTE the NFC is connected via Infineon PMB9811. The same baseband processor can be found on N7000 version.
Supercurio had a version where presumably the NFC chip was sold where on the N7000 there are some tins only... But having the Exynos CPU on board!
On Galaxy S2 'NFC' enabled there are the same baseband processor and the same CPU as in the Note. The real difference is the NFC chip, that seems to be available on the LTE version, in Korea and US...

hehe cool find.
So if we get the missing components and solder them there I guess the normal note would have nfc working, maybe it would need a different kernel or something? ^^ lol it's a pain in the ass to solder bga chips tho...
Then maybe it was just a price thing? I'm not sure. I thought I read it was a processor issue. I know the N7000 has the better processor than the LTE US version (Exynos vs. Snapdragon).

Yeah, that would be a pain. And that would not be worth it at all. Ha. NFC is still fairly new. Before long all phones will have it. I bet the new iPhone will have it too.

Ye, i wonder why they didn't simply put NFC in all notes, period.
Probably the price... or maybe some delay in getting the NFC chips or whatever... sucks tho... would like to hear from Samsung!

different cases for different versions?

going to be getting a note 2 soon but dont have one at the moment. are all the body shapes the same or do i need one for the tmobile specifically?>
All versions are the same in terms of dimensions
All the same. I'm using a flip case I bought at Sprint on my N7100.
I asked in a later thread specifically whether the 7100 and 7105 were at all different, and didn't get an answer, but I am pretty sure externally all variants (so far) are the same.

Thinking of Selling GT9305

I'm thinking of selling my GT9305T to get a Note2 7105. Or do you think there will be more XDA support for our device? ie more Roms etc
No response I think I answered my own question lol selling it after a short week of use
Sent from my GT-I9305 using xda premium
Its hard to say if there will be more dev support for the i9305 but I think its going to be the same for the n7105. The i9300 and n7100 are both more common then the LTE varients. The n7100 was released first and already has a lot of dev support so in my opinion if you want more roms etc for now the n7100 or i9300 has the options
Sent from my GT-I9305 using XDA Premium HD app
I agree with txr33. There will eventually be more support here soon anyway. The LTE is a relatively new device. We only need the kernel support like Siyah kernel (which I have someone working on for us at the moment) and then we we will be able to boot with AOSP. Other than that I kind of like the newer Samsung touchwiz interface and the multiwindow support stuff. Samsung is making this stuff very practical for us now days
Other than that, what was the specific reason for wanting to sell your device? LTE is never going to have as much support as standard until LTE becomes more the mainstream. You will just have to bide your time
LTE variants always have little to no developer support, the state of this forum is pretty good for this category, i mean most people bought the 3G international version, so it's natural to have more support there.
If you just care about dev support and not LTE, go for an international device, if you need LTE and don't mind less (still good and impressive for these kind of devices)
For example, the I9000 (Galaxy S) version has good developer support.
The I9003 version (Galaxy S too) is currently stuck with a dead forum.
Also, The Note2 is superior if you don't mind the size, GO FOR IT ANYWAYS.
Be happy and enjoy your device
Actually the only thing superior about the Note 2 is the Size, The I9305 is the same hardware Ram, GPU, CPU, Just overclocked. Actually my phone right now is running at a faster clock speed then the Note 2.
And If you want to sell it go right ahead. You shouldnt ask anyone.it would be funny if after you sell it 2 months later we get 3x the support we have now. And to be honest the support is quite good for the reason its the 2nd release. Dev support is not going to sky rocket in 1 day especially because most the S3 people dont have the money to spend and get the an upgraded S3 some might rather wait for the S4 as it will have more upgrades and they will be probably almost finished there contracts. But I would guarantee if someone had an I9305 boxed up and handed it to one of the I9300 users and said either your phone or the I9305 Only pick 1 they would pick the I9305 if it was free of charge.
But like I said if your already thinking of selling it because of the Dev support then I think you should sell it. Peace V
Thanks for your answers still I love my 9305t just torn as I really like the note2

I had a i9305, got a n7105 and then went back to the i9305
its toooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo big
I have the Biggest laptop a alienware m18x so why not a big phone lol
I think there will be come more Devs and Support soon, cause Vodafone Germany sells now only the I9305 to bring on LTE. But it also seems that many developers opt for the Google Nexus 4.

Snapdragon or Exynos

Many people assume that this choice only depends on if you want root, however, there are other things to consider:
-network compatibility
-warranty
-performance difference
-power efficiency
-ram management
-promotions
-obvious root and bootloader
With all of that in mind, which variant are you going for, and why?
How do you suppose Exynos/Snapdragon choice is connected to root? You can have it on both.

Exynos hands down.
I refuse to drop $1300 on a device and not be able to do what u want with it.
Exynos is better on battery and just a smoother experience overall and yes ive has snap and exynos versions of the note 7 and s8 plus to compare.
Network compatibility isnt an issue here in Canada (if your on CDMA your screwed for the exynos version)
Could care less about warranty and lets face it...if your on xda and worried about warranty you may be in the wrong place. Development and warranty do not go well together.
You may lose some features on an international device such as wifi calling etc but if you dont care about that and want root, twrp, roms etc your out of your mind to buy a snapdragon.
Its funny how ive seen on the s7,note 7 and s8 when ppl buy the snap version then whine and moan the BL is locked and takes forever to even get root....lol whos fault is that? Buy the appropriate device based on your needs. People arent too bright it would seem?

Sort of.
The root on the snaps is based on engineering firmware and has disadvantages as compared to SU or magisk.
You just cant compare the two... not to mention no twrp...no kernels and there will be very few roms.

I agree. The only reason I went with the snapdragon S8+ was because I got $300 off for trading in a Note 1.

Exynos gets root right away. Snapdragon takes months, and is not as good. You have to flash a weird universal stock rom that won't even let you charge past 80% (at least on s8+).
Exynos ftw!

Dang I guess I read that wrong lol... Seeing what I wanted to see I guess
Preordered the note 8 unlocked snapdragon because I'm on Verizon. Got the unlocked version just in case root is not possible and the resale value is better for unlocked phones. Really hope root is possible though!! So snapdragon s8 root was achieved? That's promising!!
My only issue is Wifi Calling/SMS is a really nice feature and AT&T is evil and makes you buy their version to use it due to the IMEI whitelist.
Could someone explain to me why people prefer the exynos? isn't the SD835 more widely used, making it easier to build custom firmwares to?

That's what I thought I'm trusting my gut and got the snapdragon. I'm on Verizon so I have no choice but got the unlocked version so verizon can't do anything funny to my Note 8
I've never looked into buying an Exynos version before but I won't buy a locked down phone.
I'm on Samsung's site right now. Can anyone tell me how I know I'm getting the Exynos version as it doesn't say on there.
HW Lottery usually works in favor of the Exynos:
Bootloader easier to unlock (SD835 will have numbers but requires a lot more effort wrt unlocking)
UFS Version (wrt GS8) 2.0 v 2.1
Radio SD Has CDMA
Camera Sensors: Sony v Samsung (not clearly SOC dependent)
Theres a few reasons.. not all linked but generally Exy version is slightly better.

Couple small corrections.
The exynos bootloaders are not and have never been locked.
The snapdragon bootloaders will never see an unlock (the s7s are still locked).
If you want development forget the snapdragon and go exynos

Go with whatever you choose, there will be development for both. It may take a little more time for the snap, but the best dev's love the challenge.
If someone who isn't a dev is telling you there won't be development, i wouldn't really listen to that advice.
Anandtech did a comparission recently and the 835 is faster. I live in UK so have no choice, Exynos it is, but im fairly sure that the old idea that Exynos is "better" has been disproven.
I just can't wait for my $1000+ Note8 to come in so it can make me coffee and do my laundry !! Oh wait

There will some but very little development for the snap. Without twrp possible for the device i dont know why you would think otherwise?
Exynos will have root and twrp within the first week of release and roms and kernels shortly thereafter...just as on the s7, note 7 and S8 .
Thats not my opinion thats fact based on past history and personal experience as I have owned all of those devcies.
Have you?

What tools did they use to compare and what measurement was used to determine faster?
Again speaking as someone who has owned both snap and exynos versions of the note 7 and s8 the exynos is a smoother overall experience with less lag. Exynos certainly has better battery life.
If you haven't owned both and are relying soley on some tests done a website thats just what you read you cannot say based on personal experience.

Should I get a galaxy note 4 to play around with custom roms?

Do you guys think I should get a samsung galaxy note 4 to mess around with roms and use it as a media device like a mini tablet?
It seems like there are so many roms for the note 4 and it has a removable battery so can last for a very long time.
Which version is the best for modding and custom roms?

It looks like you are brand new here (junior), boy you have a LOT to catch up with.
I dunno about your knowledge with custom roms, I encourage you to have patience, you need a couple of years to learn.
Best case scenario a few years IF the community will still use old(er) phones which can be modded. Cuz new(er) phones are a b*tch to work on since their bootloaders (a large majority anyway) are LOCKED.
It's VERY hard to get the Exynos variant working with custom roms. You will understand how and why after you will read the forum.
It's easier to work with Snapdragon variant, but (of course there's a but) this version is plagued by the eMMc issue and it's not easy to get a healthy phone.
Batteries - there's only few options to get good quality batteries for the note 4. And they might cost more than you would like to admit.
Google and XDA search can do miracles, go ahead and use them.
Good luck.
ps1: imo you would be better off with note 3 or S3 if the swap removable battery is your thing
ps2: remember the SPen - it will never work on custom rom as originally intended, it's an extra headache in custom roms

Check this forum - Note 4 Snapdragon - you will see which version is more used.
I do not have a source and also I've stopped using the note4.
Original batteries might be found on Samsung dealers locally, if they still have.
Online is more difficult and not so trustful, hence the difficulty reason I've mentioned before.

I say go for it!
I have had a Note 3 since the original days it came out and I am still using it as a dialy driver AND an older one to act as a kitchen timer/clock/music player.
But.. be prepared for heartache! It is hard to find active development but go to the general forum and you can still see some activity. The main thing is do not invest more than you are willing to loose! You can perminantly brick your device and even though you can get one on ebay or other sites, they will stil run you around 100 dollars US.
But if you want a hobby, and like me, want a secondary device, I DO use the SPen as a stylus on the Squid App for taking notes.. and use the Infra-Red blaster as a remote control for the multiple TV's at my job.
So get a Note 3. In fact if I get my Note 4 I just bought up and running, I am willing to seel you my note 3 with 2 batteries and a wall charger.
As for the batteries? I do get some from amazon, and they seem new-ish and last me a good year or so. Buy 2 or 3 and rotate them as needed! That way you will always have power.
Let me know if I can help you on your journey and best of luck to you!
Dave
If you decide to get a Note 4 I recommend not getting the Verizon model as it is a nightmare to mod.
If I might make a different phone recommendation go for a Galaxy Note 3, it has way more support to it and is also easier to mod.
