Has anyone removed the stock screen protector from their Otterbox Defender for the Note 5 yet and used a tempered glass screen protector instead?
Is the phone loose inside the Defender with stock protector removed?
I've done it with past Defenders and thinking about trying it with the Note 5 Defender.

I removed mine to add the Invisible Shield glass.. it is a little loose around the bottom and sides of the phone...yet the Invisible Shield looks and feels better than the glass.. I would actually recommend cutting the plastic out around the inside contours of the case. Which should leave that little bit of plastic to stay snug against the phone.

I could take a picture later since i am at work and its a little hard to take a pic of my phone with my phone...lol
No it does not move around...its just a small gap in between the screen and the case. when you hold the phone the side barely squeezes in.. yet it is noticeable. it just leave a small gap where the plastic used to be... it shouldn't move tho. just peel the plastic off carefully and test it out...if you don't like it put the plastic back on.

Heck ya. Finally did that tonight. I could not stand how it made the screen less sensitive, I would be in Gmail and trying to click on multiple emails I want to delete and instead of highlighting the email it would open it, so finally tore that out. I don't have any issues with my phone being loose in the case either, fits just fine. I also have never kept the plastic screen in any of my previous Defender cases.

I purchased the Seidio SURFACE case with kickstand and "Just like Glass" screen protector the other day. So far they have been great additions to the GN2.
ShopAndroid.com - Seidio Case
Amazon.com - Just Like Glass screen protector
The case does not add a lot of thickness to the phone. It is slightly tacky so the phone won't slip out of your hand but it also isn't a lint magnet. The kickstand is slightly fragile but with some care it shouldn't cause an issues. It's held in the closed position by a small magnet and I haven't had any accidental erections ...err openings of the kickstand.
To apply this screen protector requires using some water and included spray. What's nice is once you put it on the phone you have a minute to align the protector correctly then you need to wait about 30 minutes for it to dry. After a day or two any remaining moisture will disappear. The S-Pen works great and doesn't leave any indentations. It also glides smoothly across the screen protector (where others seem to grab the S-Pen tip). As with the case, the screen protector is not a lint magnet but does tend to show finger print (a quick wipe on your pant leg takes care of this problem).
The case fits nicely around the phone and protects the edge of the screen protector to prevent edge lifts. My only complaint about the case if if you use the kickstand on a slippery table, it tends to slide when you try to use the S-pen. Using your finger carefully allows for easy angled use. It sits at a nice viewing angle.
thanks for this writeup, this is one of the cases that I was considering to protect my Note II
I have the active case with holster. The things I don't like are how flimsy the rubber is that goes around the phone face. It easily folds out of the way. I would have preferred something with a little firmer lip. This lip also catches on the holster clip everytime you holster it.
Otherwise it is ok. I have the official samsung hard cases with a firm lip around the face but the lip doesn't come up enough for my comfort. It does fit nicely in the Seidio holster even with the Samsung hard case.

The case I mentioned has hard edges so you don't have to worry about them pulling off in your pocket.

I got the just like glass protector from amazon. First off, it doesn't fit. It is too long. I need to bust out my xacto knife to trim it down near the center home button, and at the top it kinda comes off the edge a little. Second, it is nothing like glass.
I have the Seidio case as well. I like it only mine does 't seem to close all the way. If you squeeze both ends together you can feel the tab click but when you let go it opens back up. Only had the bottom fall off once in my pocket but still kind of annoying. Anyone had similar issues?

I haven't experienced that issue yet. I noticed the connection on the back sometimes gets lifted so I push it back down. I agree the little tiny space between the sections annoys me but I'm a perfectionist.
Otterbox cases are great but has anyone else worried about the defender not offering as much protection on face down falls? think about it the hard plastic is raised higher than the silicon layer so if the phone falls face down the first thing that's going to hit the ground is the plastic pushing down on your screen. Couldn't that shatter it? Also ive had the defender leave small but noticeable scratches towards the top around the speaker and camera hole, this is probably due to dirt and stuff getting under the hard plastic and rubbing against the glass. And don't you guys think a phone wrapped in silicon and then a hard outer shell (commuter) is better than a phone in a hard inner shell and soft outer shell (defender)? and the screen protector with the commuter isn't that bad its not the best but its something. And the otterbox commuter has a nice silicon lip around the screen that's raised and protects the screen just fine. Also for anyone trying to get the commuter just contact otterbox they replaced my defender with a commuter no charge of course it was a warranty replacement due to my defender having issues with the hard plastic shell rubbing against the screen and leaving scratches, but anyways which do you guys think offers better protection?
i have both the commuter and defender case and i would say the defender offers more protection - if i were to drop my phone i would rather it be in the defender case i think it would make out better, i have an extended battery and have taken off the brutal screen protector on the defender so mine wouldn't be as good as the stock case but if you have the regular battery then no question the defender offers better protection

yeah i took my screen protector off after a while of owning it and put a zagg on it but now the case doesnt feel as sturdy it creaks sometimes have you noticed anything like that?
i dont think taking off the plastic will cause it to creak - had a zagg protector on yesterday but finally got my x gear glass protector on without any water marks under the screen so i threw the zagg in the garbage - i really dont like zagg - but that shouldn't be a problem
I have the Otterbox defender (modded to fit my extended battery) and I have the zagg sp on my phone instead of the sp the defender came with. I have dropped my beloved phone more times than I care to count (on the icy ground, concrete, floor, etc) and it sometimes landed on its face more often than not. Not even a scratch on the screen. The zagg and defender has been EXCELLENT in protecting my screen. No worries over here.

Defender if it was up too me.. I tried going back to my commuter but stil dont like how its a slippery backing.. I dropped the phone with defender twice from pocket height an no damage at all.. I used to carry it in my pocket face out an one time i bumped into a metal table an i thought for sure my screen was broken but to my luck it was still perfect. Now i carry it screen facing my thigh. Im the kinda guy that actually enjoys some weight to the note make it feel more of a quality product

I noticed mine did as well after removing the screen protector. Not a perfect solution (OtterBox should just put a ring in the box for those who either prefer no protector or another one) but I used thin "Post-It" brand adhesive plastic bookmark tabs. I cut narrow strips from that material and stuck them along the edges where the screen protector used to reside, the thickness is just right - no creaking or looseness anymore.
An option to prevent the creaking that I have used is to take an exacto knife and trim out the screen protector, leaving the outline of the protector under the case. You can't see the left over piece of the protector on there with the case on, and it stops the creaking from happening.

2 falls on hard floor with thin of layer carpet and 2 falls on a rubber car mat, plus the tap on the desk to my top left corner off the phone and pulling on the USB cable while plugged to my phone accidentally when picking the phone up from a surface, will that have damaged my phone in anyway if there is no visible damage?
The insides of the phone are solid state, taking a bump won't have any impact on it unless it is hard enough that you can see the damage. The first thing to go is always the glass screen. The glass is *especially* vulnerable on Nexus 6, because it bubbles out at the edges. If you drop it onto a hard surface in a way that it could land a bit off face down, the screen WILL be the first part of the phone to touch the ground and stands a very high chance of breaking. Other phones tend to have at least a small lip of the plastic frame around the screen protruding to protect it. I suggest a rubber protective case like a Ballistic Maxx.
The only visible damage would be the screen. If you don't see anything then you're fine.
Be more careful with your phone and invest into protection if you plan on preserving your investment. I recommend a tempered glass protector as it'll protect your screen while maintaining the same screen feel.
Add a case in there for back and side protections. I'd recommend something not bulky but enough to protect your phone such as a ringke fusion or ringke max, ringke slim if you want the slimmest case.

Your phone is fine, the worst that can happen is that your phone physically gets scratched / scuffled. The Ringke case also comes with a screen protector but its plastic and not very good. It collects a lot of oil.
I recommend visiting the tempered glass thread and then see what glass you like. It'll cost around ~$10 and depending on whom you get it from they'll give free replacements.

what if it fell hitting the backside instead? does putting the sim card tray the wrong way for 1 second like not going all the way in but inserting it then realizing it was the wrong side. does that mess up the tray or slot?
Hi All,
My preferred phone protection is to have a tempered glass screen protector and silicone case. Saved my old phone from bad damage a couple times while bouncing on the street.
Now... the challenge I have with the P9000 is that the silicone case that came with the phone doesn't go 'over' the edges of the tempered glass protector and pushes it off.
rather annoying!
Ordered some other silicone cases on Aliexpress but the same problem.
Anybody found a nice case that does the trick? Tried 'heat stretching' the case a bit for a better fit but no luck so far.
thanks!

yup same problem. i cut the case a bit and now it dont look nice . but it works.
Hi.
My problem was that one corner of the glass doesn't stick to the LCD. After I applied the silikoncase it fits.
I have the case that come with the phone.
I stretched it a little bit over the corners of the phones without heat.

Had the same issue what you need to do is force phone by slotting it into case then pull the lip over the screen protector. Do this to all corners and you'll have no issues.

Congrats on having it fixed without any drastic measures! I went the 'cutting route' for now since I had to replace the screen protector and didn't want to risk another one.
But I've got another set of silicone cases coming from aliexpress to check if they are a bit better!
I've got 2 P9000's (one for me one for my girlfriend) so actually I already wrecked 2 screen protectors.
Same problem here. Original case and aliexpress case. No luck.
i bought the official flip case and tempered glass.
tried the case first which fit but found the buttons a bit hard to press.
if you fold the case front behind the phone the camera is blocked also.
could view the on screen clock and notifications through the case screen window.
once applied the tempered glass the phone wouldn't recognize the flip case, so when i closed it over the screen remained on and the case window became useless.
this company do nothing right do they.
Had to struggle the same problem, but now i could fix it.
Just make sure the glass is positioned in centre on the screen. When putting on the case, make sure the case slips properly over the first 3 corners. For the last one, you can use any tool (i a used knife, but be careful ) to overlap the edge of the silicon case with the tempered glass.
No matter what I did, it wouldn't do it without lifting the glass

I have the same issue (sometimes) with matte film protectors and the standard case.
Always on the top right corner for me - where I've got fractionally less unprotected screen , so maybe very precise alignment of the screen protector would help you?
Pulling the case over the edge of the screen with my fingernails was enough for me
Cut the flip in the flip-case.

Cut the flip in the flip-case. Just kepping the hard back. This way you can use the glass and have back protection. I did this and works fine.
I use this glass protector - http://www.ebay.com/itm/282044598237?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
there is a space between the silicon case and the glass so they don't touch each other

The hard back in the flip case is useless. Too fragile, corners and button covers break easily, my P9000 fell just once not too hard and the screen left upper corner broke. Silicone cover is better protection
u can use scotch tape on the bottom corners of the glass to stop it from lifting, funny idea but works, if u want to save a new case cost.

The buttons on the commuter felt "squishy". I hated that. Took it back to Best Buy. I'm used to really "clicky" buttons from Spigen. How are the buttons on this Defender?
Waaaay too bulky. This is a perfect example of how to defeat the purpose of a beautiful design and ruin the work that went into creating a nearly bezel-free device.

Yep. I don't see the point of mating it to that case.
I like the Bolt on my 10+
The sides allow access to the curve part but help prevent accidental touches and makes it easy to hold. It's a delicate balance.
Does a great job protecting it as well.

Not sure yet, I am using the Defender Pro Case with the WhiteStone Dome screen protector and the install did not go well for me, probably because the phone is so large... I had no issues with the WhiteStone Dome on my Note 8.
They are sending me a replacement screen protector, I can tell you it fits tight on the top and bottom. the curved sides are fine. Meaning that the Defender Pro case hits the top and bottom of the protector if it is not alined perfect.
I have the same case on my 20 and the fit is awesome thought it would be to big but it's not.

The same curse as the Note 10+ which cost me a lot of time to resolve.
You can try some teflon tape stretched down the sides just barely touching the screen protector to help it into the case and keep debris from marring the frame.
I rejected the damn Whitestone after I saw what a mess it was plus they sent the wrong protector in the right box. NOT impressed with their offshore junk and attitude.
A wet apply urethane screen protector is working very well in my case, the Gorilla IO Screen Protector.
The Bolt case is a tight fitting case as well.
The Whitestone would have been a tight fit at best. Just one little contact bump with the case would be a mess to redo; with a wet apply you can simple wet and push it back down.
Pros: easy to apply, wears fairly good, clear with a nice feel to it with excellent scratch protection and some impact protection. Can be pushed back down if it lifts.
Inexpensive. Bubble free.
Cons: less impact protection, need to let it set up overnight. Must be careful not to stretch it (or any) plastic film protectors as that will cause a failure.

LOL. There's no reason for a screen protector on the Note20. Modern glass has been extremely durable for years and this generation is leaps and bounds above the previous ones. I haven't used a screen protector since the S8+, and I haven't had so much as a tiny nick or scratch on any of my devices.

It rains mud here, literally sometimes if that tells you how dusty it can get.
Had a S4+ that had a heat damaged LCD.
For science, yes well, I took off the screen protector on it's Otterbox. The screen was spotless after 3 years.
Within a half year it had a couple scratches. I was reasonable careful with it.
The note Note 10+'s factory screen protector was scraped right on screen curve in the case the 2nd day I had by a drop out of my pocket onto a piece of aluminum angle. No damage.
Things happen.
