My Wifi Tether is not firing up correctly after I've updated to 5.1 on Verizon. I am rooted with stock.
I've tried settings from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/how-to-wifi-tether-stock-rooted-moto-x-t2449534
but these settings don't work. It tells me "tether started with errors." Then when I check the log it says the file doesn't exist. I cannot find any wifi networks on my computer after I start it.
Again, I am rooted with stock 5.1 firmware. Anyone had any luck with it?

Did you get a resolution to this? I am having the same problem. I have not yet tried the suggestion above.
Thanks!

Stock, unrooted Moto X on Verizon. Took the OTA to 5.1 and now tether says it's on, but no devices are able to maintain a connection if they are ever actually even able to complete the handshake

Yes, I can't get any devices to even see my wifi is broadcasting. If you find a resolution please return and let us know. I will keep searching but I am probably going to go back to 4.4.4 as everything was fine.
Same thing happened to LG-G3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-lg-g3/general/lollipop-tethering-t3071188
I use WiFi Tether Router and I used the settings for a Moto G and the developer had me check the "hostAPDpatch" option. Problem solved. Wifi is back and I have one less 1st world problem.

I am on rooted stock LPY. I noticed that whenever I try to connect to wifi it says connecting then stuck at obtaining ip address and then disconnected. I have tried more than one router and I am getting the same results. I have googled this and one solution is to have a static ip address. The problem is that this setting is no longer available in ICS. Any idea how to fix this without wiping (I am too afraid to wipe given all the fuss about it).

Did you flash the LPY Rom with or without full wipe? That might be the cause.
You can flash a new modem and see if it's fixed. I can't think of anything else...
Experiment with frequency band under advanced wifi settings.

When i was on ICS i had the same issue.
This is what made it work for me:
- remove network from device, disable wifi and turn off device
- turn off internet modem(if you have any) and router, wait at least 2 min.
- turn on modem and router
- turn on device, enable wifi and connect to network
Hope it works out for you

With wifi disabled, if you have root, go to /data/misc/dhcp/ and delete all 3 files there.
I had problems on LPY where wifi would connect but ip address wouldn't get assigned.
Deleting the 3 files in /data/misc/dhcp/ fixed it for me. No probs since
Re-flash with wifi off, make the sincronization with google on 3g and then turn on wi-fi connection

I gathered all my courage and flashed a pre rooted GBrom via pc Odin, no wipes, no cleaning, no nothing . once back on GB i only performed one hard reset and felt confident enough to flash CWM back on it. I would give you the link, but am on my phone right now and can't find it, but the rom is in Bodivas thread around here.
It worked out well for me, but as you probably know...no garantuees.
Btw, sorry to see your wifi still not working

Hmm. Those 3/4 files should get recreated if DHCP is working properly on your phone.
Perhaps you phone is missing stuff in /system/etc/dhcpcd/?
Another thing just popped into my mind - did you restore your Wifi Access point details via Titanium Backup? I think that may have been an issue for me too on LPY... don't restore is best.
Or just downgrade to GB, full wipe and flash LPF
Do you have soundhound or dolphin browser hd installed?

I'm on LPY too. When I'm at office I have no issues with wifi connection but when I'm back home I start to have issues. It shows connected and I get no error or disconnected messages what so ever. But device looses wifi connection short time after connected. I check wifi connection on laptop and there is no problem but on my Note even though it shows connected I have no connection. Turning wifi off/on fixes it sometimes but most if the time it doesn't.

Hey guys, since switching to the 4.3 roms my voicemail has not been working. If I leave a vm from my work phone it never reaches my actual phone or shows up in VVM. Even when I try to dial 1 and connect to my vm normally, it says that is an incorrect number.
Is there something I need to do to re-associate my vm number to my phone?

If for some reason even dialing your voicemail manually doesn't work, it sounds like there is a provisioning issue on your device, so you could try something. First try updating you profile: go to settings, system updates -all the way at the bottom-, and tap on update profile. If that doesn't work, I assume the option activate device doesn't work either since its a custom rom. So if that doesnt work, then try flashing the stock RUU, and run activate device, this will force your device to re download all the provisioning data for your account. Let me know if either of those methods works.

What rom are you using? you could try flashing the stock rooted rom and then try doing that:

Look at the second post for the stock rooted deodexed rom. Flash that, it has no modifications other than being rooted and deodexed. When you flash it then try running activate device. Let me know what happens

The first one I flashed was Venom, but it had some stability issues so I have swapped to Stock w/ Goodies earlier today. I will try to flash the complete stock later today. Is this like the old issues on the LTE Evo with provisioning where we had to occasionally call Sprint to do it?
Honestly i have no idea. And i doubt it. I cant see why you would need to call sprint. See when you activste your device it downloads everything necessary for provisioning so unless your phone is doing something wacky i doubt activating the device will fail. So yeah just flash the full stock rom and reactivate. It should work.

This did end up having to be resolved by Sprint, called into their support and they had to remove, refresh, and reapply my voicemail. Took about 5 minutes and everything worked again and all of my voicemailes I had missed showed up as well.

For future reference you can also try this. If you send a blank voice mail to [email protected] through the VVM app it will usually fix the problem. Had to do this on a friends phone the other day.
Hey XDA,
Before I get a lot of flaming I want to say I did search extensively and wasn't able to find any solutions/people with the same issue. As I'm new to posting in XDA I am not new to forums so I do know how to search.
I just installed Cyanogenmod via the Installer to test it out and see if it worked on my new HTC One. I am unable to connect to 4g LTE and there is no option for this anywhere (just the general Data Enabled toggle). Anyone have a similar issue or know a fix?
I know with my older phones I would flash an non-JB modem before installing CM, but figured I didn't have to with the installer they released.
Thanks in advance for the help, loving the HTC One so far!

Settings -> More -> Mobile Networks -> Network Mode
change that and you should be good to go (mine is set to LTE/CDMA/EvDO/GSM/WCDMA)
might need to disable / enable data / airplane mode / etc but just play with the settings a bit and you'll get it
(for reference i updated my radio manually, and gapps to 08/20 and using the stable milestone 1 release)(3 zips)
had some links for you but it won't let me post them sorry

I didn't. I'd constantly switch between the different CDMA/LTE choices and could sometimes connect to LTE, but I would also randomly lose service as if my radio stopped working. Went back to stock and everything was working fine so I'm sticking to that.

Ah, well, I got mine working. I'm on the 4.4 google edition rom. using the nova launcher > apn, then for the settings just named it "Credo LTE" and used apn=“n.w1.ispsn" and mmsc="http://mms.plspictures.com" and type="default, mms"
all is finally working right. for whatever reason, with root and all I couldn't get the apn-config.xml to save. I put an edited file in there but it kept reverting... I also went into *#*#4636#*#* and changed the preferred network type to LTE/CDMA (auto).
hope this helps anyone on credo!
Hey guys,
I have a Z1 C903, which doesn't work as a wifi tether nor bluetooth tether. I can turn it on, and other devices can see it, however when trying to connect, the signal drops completely.
If I wait the signal will restart and become full strength, where I will need to manually connect, which proceeds to the signal disappearing again. I've tried unsecure, wpa2, wpa to which I have no luck either. Devices such as laptop will say limited connection, whereas android tablets and phones will refuse to connect and will say "Saved, secured with WPA2" or something else if i change the password method.
I've tried searching for any reports of wifi tethering not working, but the problems seem to be different from my situation.
More details on my device:
It has an unlocked bootloader
Now running Paranoid android
Problem occurred on stock 4.3, nut 4.4 (I assumed it was a glitch on Sony's drivers, and have waited for months now for a patch)
Could a faulty TA do this?
Any ideas?
Am I f***ed?
Cheers

It should solve your problem
And of course first re-lock your BL and flash to stock Rom

Am I right in assuming all Z1 CM ROMs have this problem, if I must install a stock-based ROM?

Oh, sorry I forgot to tell you
You should use stock rom

You can try to change the name of your phone (Network SSID) to a simpler form instead of default.
I got it working
I got it working thanks to your suggestion, Saeed.
I flashed the stock ftf from the mega thread and that restored my tethering capabilities. I then proceeded to reinstall the ParanoidRom and now the tethering works as well.
I'm not sure what happened, but I'd assume something went wrong when upgrading to 4.3 and the problem stayed when I then upgraded again to 4.4 and then to paranoid.
Thanks

Try re-flashing the radio for .44.
You can even try flashing the .49 radio.

Maybe flash the full .49 (Lollipop) firmware, maybe flash the 6.0.1 OTA update? Since your bootloader is unlocked you are safe. We have those here available in this forum. Here's the 6.0.1 OTA update:
[OTA] Official Marshmallow build MCG24.251-5
http://forum.xda-developers.com/dro...ota-official-marshmallow-build-mcg24-t3512813
(Do NOT attempt to install that if you have an encryption turned on.)
If those don't work, then it's something hardware related, I would presume. Just unlocking bootloader and "rooting" shouldn't affect anyone's wi-fi capability.
________
Is there SOMETHING ELSE you have installed that might affect Wi-Fi? Some battery save app would turn off and turn on Wi-Fi at different times? Something xPosed module like Smart Network? Some app or setting that is supposed to recognize a GPS location and do a certain action, like connect/disconnect Bluetooth? (But such apps can also control Wi-Fi.) One such app is Tasker, but there are plenty of others. Some people even have a couple of apps like that doing similar tasks and it's easy to have conflicts or just simple human error.
One time I configured my wife's volume control app to turn to "normal" volume at 8am and go silent at 8:30pm. Unfortunately, I accidentally chose 8:30am. (I swear I didn't, but there it was.) For two days, she had totally silent phone except for 30 minutes! And I'm the tech guy in the family.
