Hi everyone, coming from the G2 forums thought I'd ask the simple question, as stated in the title.
I have a G2 D800, owned it since November, recently been thinking of switching over to the Flex, the OLED display, unique curve display and astonishing battery life based on what you guys be posting on here about it, gets me
I love my G2, the great battery life, development and screen, however, I got that urge to upgrade especially when AT&T has a deal going on right now that if you get any LG device(G2, Flex, G3 etc.) you get the G Pad 7.0 for a buck.
I would jump ship to the G3 but the difference in specs isnt that significant to me, and besides I already flashed the G3 port so it defeats the purpose of even getting the G3, the Flex on the other hand has got some unique features in its sleeves just like i mentioned earlier, G2 and Flex do have basically the same specs but no one around here where I live is rocking the Flex, thought I'd be maybe one of the few to have one.
Whats your intake on this?
Thanks
This phone is locked down tight. So if you like to flash this isn't for you. There are a few dev's working on stuff but for the most part this phone is getting no love. I expect that nothing will ever materialize for this one. It's a shame because it's blazing fast. Love everything about it. But I'm a flashoholic. Can't handle this blah
But on a positive note. The screen is damn near unbreakable. I've drooped it ALOT and no cracks what so ever. There's even a flex and drop test on YouTube demonstrating it. The guy hyper extends it as much as its curved the other. Amazing.
It may be locked down tight unless you're on 4.2.2 which can install twrp/ or cwm to have custom recovery and can flash all you want safely as long as you don't go to KitKat yet. KitKat will have working recovery soon I'm sure. I hope. I want a oneplus one and I'm eligible to jump but I can't get past the fact that I don't stress over busting my screen. That to me is worth more in dollars than flashing 30 different peoples ROMs that are virtually the same especially once you set all your mods and themes. Jus sayin
I switched from a Samsung galaxy S4 to the flex. As for screen clarity, I put the two next to one another not any difference for what I could see. Everything else specs out closely as for the basic functions of each.
Pros,
Flex battery is killer good
Stock customization totally out ways most other brands.
Its a solid consistently smooth running phone.
It quick and I have yet to make it freeze up.
It doesn't feel nor look cheap at all.
The phone is designed for larger hands. Which I have. Smaller hand person might need to use both hands.
Cons, which is why I would recommend the G3. Camera app requires manual selections, it isn't a click and use camera like my S4 was. It does have all the modes that other phones have plus a few more, but they have to be selected manually.
Also no removable battery
And no SD card.

Yeah I came from the GS4 as well and I've noticed the flex to be a bit snappier, and seems a little more solid as far as software. Tons of stock modifications that don't require root. I.e. navbar themes, launcher themes, and even change the list view style of the settings apk. And for battery life, I work from 3pm to midnight and stream iHeart and/or SoundCloud all night. Phone starts at at 3 with 100% at midnight I'm at 70%-80% . by 2 am its on 65%. That's awesome. If I didn't stream music all night at work there's no doubt that I could charge it every other day.
Yeah I have a hard time running my battery down and the screen is awesome! Love my flex!

My guess is that it probably will have higher resolution which will impact battery life for the worse. But I'm interested to see if they can figure out some software functions such as pushing down the phone at the top or bottom while it's laying down to issue some commands or stuff like that.

How is the camera and battery life compared to that of a g2
Battery life: the flex eats the g2 for breakfast.
Camera: could be better in low light, but if properly lit, it takes more than decent pictures. Front cam is OK ish but I rarely ever use it anyway.
I just went from the gs4 to the flex, the gs4 I would swap my battery out after work because it would be at 15% after streaming all day at work.
this one I stream all day at work get home and still about 70% and like now it says I still have about 22h 50m battery time left.
when I got it I could not put it down and at the end of the day I was at 15% and 6.5h of screen on time.
the camera is a frickin microscope compared to the gs4 I do macro photos a lot and it zooms in like crazy.

Wait on the flex 2. I read that the designer through his phone nearly 20' on the air and let it hit the ground. To demonstrate its durability. As well as punched it and sat on it vigorously.
My OG flex has no issue sustaining waist/ chest high drop and I show off that capability all the time to coworkers but 20' is mind blowing.
I read that article last night, and not only did he toss it in the air, he stepped on it and "sat on it vigorously" LOL
Too bad they reduced the curve though. I don't like that.
Hi all. I'm coming back to android after many years away, well not entirely true as my BlackBerry Passport phone uses android runtime and comes pre loaded with amazon store which allows me to download straight to my BlackBerry about 85% of the apps out there.
Having said that, I'm still new to native android and was wondering if I were to buy a new gadget to go with my S6E, would a watch be a good one? If so, which watch to get please?
Thanks in advance.

Android Wear is significantly better than Samsung's Tizen based wearables. I would suggest the LG GWR, best looking, fully round watch with the best specifications.

The curved Gear Fit is a good match from a design perspective and has a 2-3 day battery life
I currently use a Moto 360 with my s6 edge. Gets about 18 hours battery life, has wireless charging (no annoying clip/case chargers), and has great sunlight visibility. A lot of people do not like the "flat tire" look caused by the black bar at the bottom of the display but i don't even notice it anymore

How exactly is Android wear "significantly" better? I'm really curious to know.
I am loving the Moto 360 and LG Gwatch R- they are both awesome in their own right
I own a g watch r. I had the newest tizen based watched and took it back the same day for the g watch. The Samsung watch was like a smartphone on my wrist. It was just too much more than I needed. I went to Android Wear because it's more of an extension of android, and not a replacement. I went with the g watch over the 360 just due to personal preference. Both great devices, I just prefer the specs and the look for the R.
Only my opinion though. Check them all out in a store to get a feel for them.

LG has better hardware and people who seem to like it mainly because the Moto 360's flat tire angers them disproportionately. The Moto 360 has worse hardware, but it's the classiest of the Android Wear watches on the market today. Other watch options by different companies are varying degrees of nobody cares. Kinda.
I have both Moto 360 and Asus Zen watch. On balance I like the Asus watch better because it has an "always on" display. But I switch between the two often.
I love my LG G Watch R
I have the Moto 360. I love it for the ease of use, amazing battery life, and the round shape. I just recently added the pebble silver band to it, and it is a great accessory to my s6 edge.
I sold pebble, and moto 360 and bought GARMIN FENIX 3, battery life 2 weeks, and also smart watch, really great.
Thanks all for the recommendations

I had a Moto 360 and liked it a lot. I ended up buying a Samsung Galaxy Gear S though. It's Tizen based so it's a bit different than Android Wear but I LOVE it. Really happy with my purchase. It's more than an extension of Android the way Android Wear watches are. If you don't "need" all that though, I think Android Wear is just fine.
Gorgeous Moto 360 and Pebble Steel. I'm going for Pebble Steel though. Still saving up for it.
I checked online for some recommendations as well. Best Smart Watches
Moto 360
I started out with Pebble from the initial launch, but could never get over the fact that the low resolution display had jagged edges that could be seen from space (well, OK, I exaggerate a tad), and the feeling like the case was designed and manufactured by Fisher Price. Even the colors, which looked great on the web site and kickstarter videos arrived looking a bit more like lego plastics. Still, it did a pretty good job of presenting the notifications. I used the Pebble for a few months before the Samsung watches came out (and then I didn't get the original Gear until it had been out for a couple of months). The Pebble Steel does improve the looks of the watch by a wide margin, but the display did not look any/much better.
I then tried Galaxy Gear (original), Gear Live, and Gear 2 (full size one with camera). The Gear Live went back within a week as Android Wear offered so little functionality compared to the original Gear. I thought the Gear 2 looked a lot better than the original Gear despite being so similar in design, but the few changes made a nice difference and it felt better on my wrist. I used the Gear and Gear 2 each for several months.
When the ZenWatch came out, though, I was really impressed by how it looked on the wrist. The Moto 360 never really spoke to me from a style perspective and the complications of a round display just seemed to me that they would eventually limit what I could accomplish with it compared to the rest of the mobile/personal world that was centered around developers thinking about square presentation spaces. I love the ZenWatch looks and how it fits my wrist (and the bands are a fairly standard size and attachment compared to the Gear watches so you get a limitless selection for bands). I do miss a bit of the customization of the Gear capabilities at times, but Android Wear does win on the day to day stuff of notifications, ease of dealing with notifications, ease of dictating/sending text messages, and integration with navigation. I'll take those over the added functionality of the Gear in the long run, but I do wish Android Wear had a better focus on apps rather than just "notifications on steroids" (when I try to run a non-notification app I get frustrated with the process compared to just swiping across a number of app screens on the Gear devices). If Android Wear would even just offer a way to look back at old notifications it would make a huge difference - the Gear watches would both notify you of current notifications and they also had a screen to go to to see past notifications and even read full emails if you wanted. The Android Wear "cards" do let you click through to read more of the message when you get the notification, but once you dismiss the notice you can never get back to it on the watch.
I don't think Gear had navigation integration when I was using those watches (they may have gotten it since then), but the Android Wear does do an excellent job of keeping upcoming navigation steps at a glance on my wrist.
It will be interesting to see how the Apple Watch motivates Samsung and Google to improve either system.
In the meantime, I've been meaning to try the Gear 2 out again and see what enhancements they've added and how well it works with my S6 Edge...

Thinking of getting an LG G Watch R, is it worth it for $249?
I bought this device three months ago - going on three months of owning it. I bought for full price in march of this year. From my day-to-day use and observations, I see it as a pretty solid device.
For starters, I like look of it. The watch body is pretty solid in design. It feels no different than wearing my normal wristwatch. The screen is pretty good. It's been said since its an P-OLED display, it can exhibit burn-in/ image retention with high brightness settings and certain colors. So you should be cautious with the screen brightness. That being said, I haven't seen any burn-in so far.
Next, the battery life with my usage has been pretty good. I use it everyday (not too much on the weekends) with always-on setting enabled, brightness level between 3 and 1 and Swapp's true dark apps usually enabled. I also turn it off overnight; I have no need to wear it to track my sleep patterns. Using these settings, I have gotten through three days.
Lastly, the connectivity is pretty good. You've got about thirty meters or so of distance to go before the watch losses connection. So if you are in your house/ apartment, you can leave your phone in one room and still be connected. That being said, the whole issue with whether or not the next AW update gives the device isn't that be of an issue (at least for me). Most times I am wearing the watch, I have my phone on me and WiFi is not available (at work; at home completely different story).
Bottom line is I think this device is worth the money.
That would be entirely up to you. Do you think it's worth it? People who own it obviously think it's worth it.
LG = Lots of Greed

Do you really want to hand your money over to this greedy, disreputable company. Just over 6 months ago, they announced to the world that the LG G Watch R is "fully future proof" because, for example, that it has WIFI built in for the day it should become available in Android Wear OS (goo.gl/oKU5R9 (5:19)). They even had it certified by the FCC for WIFI. Now they say that LGR won't have WIFI enabled but it will be enabled with LGU even though the two products have the same internals. Now they are apparently releasing apps that are locked to the LGU and won't work with the LGR.
It's not that I'd likely use WIFI, and similar calling apps are already on Google Play, but I don't like adding my hard earned money to the coffers of companies like LG. If you don't either, I'd suggest that you look at an alternative device.
In the meantime, I'm trying to get a refund from LG so I can buy from another manufacturer.

Well said mate! :good:
Honestly, besides the wifi setback the G Watch R is a solid device! And the Moto 360 is not my cup of tea...
Get this: I have an iPhone, but I have a Nexus 7 2013 and I will use a tablet (yes, a tablet) to power my wear device. Why won't I just buy an apple watch? I hate the apple watch. Everyone is complaining about the G Watch R lacking wifi, but honestly it's probably Better then the Apple Watch.
And all of the people on this website probably know somewhat about modding this stuff! The G Watch R has the hardware, all of us could find a way to enable WiFi unofficially. Now everyone should stop complaining, recognize that the LG will probably not enable wifi officially, and everyone that wants to should start to work on a patch or something to enable wifi! Look at the Gear 2 android wear port, I'm pretty sure (correct me if I'm wrong) that the Gear 2 has unsupported internals for android wear. They got it working! What do you think?

Except the always crash of Wear when a LG Watch (same for my G-Watch and my R-Watch) go outside BT range or become in range.

I disagree, if it was a big issue I am sure we would have seen a movement to try getting a recall or a more vocal group which is not happening. Again, my watch is not any special, just a common LG R so why is it mine never has that error??????
I have it go out of range constantly while at work and never an issue.
Guess we will agree to disagree.

Again, thats a tiny sample of how many watches are around so at the very least neither of us can say for certain how bad the situation is but you are free to think as you like.
I personally would never trust LG again and will make my mission in life to (a) never buy their products again and (b) persuade as many people as i can to do likewise.
I bought the R literally one month before their 'knife in the back' to all their R community.
Regardless of whether this is a good watch or not, what LG has done doesn't affect a percentage of the people with the R but ALL the people with the R.
They cannot have it both ways. Either (a) they lied during their luanch stating it has wifi and the fccid certification or (b) they are lying now stating they cannot enable it. There is simply no other reason i can think of. It has been proved (you can find all the evidence you like with a simple search) that the wifi chip exists and so do the antennae so the only reason i can think of is like i said 'a knife in the back' and i will not allow anyone to do this to me or my friends not as long as i am in command of where, and with whom, i spent my money. LG are not the only ones that make smartwatches or smartphones. You want to hurt them back then don't buy it, simple.
There was a post with a quote from an LG rep which pretty much said that the GWR wouldn't get wifi with the update but it was something that could happen down the line with a software update meaning the tech is there to support wifi but LG won't implement just yet for whatever reason. [Urbane sales].
We'll all know once Android Wear is released.
I love my GWR, but I'm not sure I would pay $250 at this point in the products life cycle. In fact, I only paid $210 back in November during the t-mobile "sale". At this point, I would wait for the Urbane or Moto 360 v2.
I probably wont upgrade until there is a model with: sapphire glass, stainless back, integrated speaker, gps, and better battery life. That said, I think the GWR is a great watch, great looking, and does everything it was advertised to do.
I will would wait for the next generation of android wear from Samsung and Motorola. If you can get the GWR for $200 then its a good deal. If you have have a smart watch for now I would get a Samsung gear live on craigslist for under $100. I had the lg g watch, Samsung gear live, moto 360 n lg GWR and the one I like the most is the GWR. But if I can save $150 I would get the gear live instead.
Hello,
I just took back a pebble steel with a broken button and got a Moto 360. I'm not impressed with it. I like the android wear, and see it has a lot of potential, but my gripes with the 360 are mostly hardware related. It has piss poor battery life, a power-hungry screen tech that practically forbids "always-on", and a crappy processor which will likely be a problem going forward. The 360 will be returned this afternoon.
The LG Watch R appears to resolve some of these issues. Right now I'm trying to decide between the LG and going back to the Pebble Steel.
Some points:
I need a watch that will last at least 12 hours of heavy use (15-20 notifications an hour with vibrations). The 360 fails in this category. Not sure about the LG.
Size is not a factor. I prefer a bigger watch.
It needs to be always on showing at least the time and date.
Can be readable in sunlight.
Is somewhat future proof. This worries me about the Pebble. New apps developed for the Time already have features that only work in color. And then there is talk about Pebble having financial trouble.
I'm really torn. Any insights or things I haven't considered?
I am very critical of my tech hardware, keep that in mind while reading my response.
1: my g watch r is always on and lasts easily 24 hours, near 36 if I put it in hibernate while sleeping, however I don't believe I receive that many notifications,.. I'm probably more like 10/hour on average. I do use other features regularly like voice dial/text and card updates.
2: GWR is notoriously a larger round watch which I really really like. I'm 6'2" 195 athletic build and it fits my wrist nicely and looks like a 'larger' watch.
3: always on isn't a problem, neither is time and date when it goes to ambient mode. Plenty of face apps to choose from that show a variety of info in ambient.
4: readable in sunlight is not so good. Turned up to max brightness and in direct sunlight, you are going to be disappointed. I don't know that any display, on a clear day, can compete with the giant ball of nuclear fusion at the center of our solar system.
5: as for future proof, others here can chime in more accurately on that but I've had mine since December of last year and I do not notice any limitations in that arena- so much so that I'm blissfully ignorant of newcomers to the wearable market. One feature that is lacking is Wi-Fi connectivity which is supposed to be activated with an upcoming update. This will definitely come with an obvious downside: decreased battery life, which is a strong point of this watch, and your primary concern....also a feature I'm sure can be turned off.
Well, I ended up going back to the Pebble. I don't mind the e-ink, and I really don't think the Android Wear stuff is up to snuff quite yet.
I also like the thought of being able to go swimming, seeing the watch outdoors, and being able to operate it with gloves on.
Maybe I'll look at touch based watches again in another year.

Wow that was a quick decision. Were you REALLY looking for this?
In any case, 12 hours is a piece of cake and I am always playing with Watchmaker etc. I make it through the whole day with ease but I rarely wear it to sleep so I charge every night at about 11pm or so.
Android wear is for sure up to snuff. If you like e-ink then great, whatever suits you. I will keep enjoying my LG R.
Sounds like the Sony SW3 could be for you: transflective display that is readable in direct sunlight, good battery life and the most future-proof Android Wear watch currently on the market (the only one with NFC and GPS build in)
I upgraded to LG G Watch R from Pebble. I'm sure you won't regret it. The amount of luxuries you'll get with this will hide all the minor disadvantages.

My best friend got a SW3. He always tells to me he should've better gone with G Watch R. He doesn't like the square look though. That's personal opinion. You can do what you want.
I switched from a Sony SW 3 to this LG gwatch R after a day. I got the metal Sony version and although I really liked the design and the square look, it's a REAL pain to charge it!!! Really, you have to push the watch out of the band, then poke the little plastic thingy out before sticking a micro-usb in. For something that needs charging every day, that's totally unacceptable to me.

I am thinking of buying G Watch Urbane

Having a smart watch is pretty usefull when you recieve messages or calls, u can look at the watch and see or respond without turning on your phone.
Also u have maps and other apps that are pretty usefull..... If u are a runner is great!
At the end is a watch with smart capabilities... Time and date plus the basics of the phone...

I am using Pebble Steel, which is based on the original Pebble watch. The value and functionality is fantastic. First of all, it looks good and performs extremely well as a watch. I picked it for just $100 around holidays, and at that price it's worth the money even if it did not have any "smart"watch functionality. Some good points about it:
1. Great as a watch. The time always stays in sync with network time. There are about a gazillion good looking watch faces you can download.
2. Delivers notifications from the phone (calls, messages, etc)
3. Weather and battery charge display on many popular watch faces.
4. Will last 7-10 days on one battery charge
5. waterproof
6. Android compatible (of course)
7. Cheap
8. Many many free apps.
Poor points:
1 bit "color" display is very readable and saves you battery, but some people want a color display.
I think the activity/fitness tracking features are a bit gimmicky.
The newer versions of Pebble are worth checking out.
Don't know why are all smartwatches are so expensive???

you can find pebbles on swappa for typically less than $100, plus the pebble classic dropped to $100 MSRP
pebbles are awesome, I rock the steel and it's great, the battery life is ridiculous and it does notifications really well (music control is nice too)
they don't bite off more than they can chew like some other smartwatches
I highly recommend an asus zenwatch 2, it only costs $130 on (or at) bestbuy and has specs similar to "flagship" smartwatches. The only thing it doesnt have is a heart rate monitor. It also is one of the only smartwatches with a speaker, whenever google adds functionality for a speaker on android wear.
I wish those watches weren't so expensive
yes I do ,moto 360
I have an ASUS Zenwatch 2 and can highly recommend it!
It is available on Amazon and at Best Buy, etc. for $129 with the brown band (which actually isn't terrible), but I also picked up a steel 22mm milanese band for $11 and it looks great!
I'm using an Asus Zenwatch. It's very useful for eg answering whatsapp.
I have a Samsung Gear LIVE, pretty useful for the notification (but I use some filter)
I have the LG G Watch the original I snagged it for $100. Best thing I've done. It's mostly to learn to leave my phone alone in my pocket. I can't talk through the watch which is really fine with me, you can use a Bluetooth headset for music and phone calls so no biggie. I have two phones so I also have a second watch the LG G Watch R for my LG G3. Just remember that you can't pair more than one phone to the watch.
Quick text and email replies, start apps while driving eg: navigate to x location, start music, call B contact. That's what the watch does best. No heart rate monitor, not an accurate pedometer it will get better!

I had a zenwatch. Worked fine with my G2. But after a few days i sold it. In a few years i'll get interested again. For now i don't find it useful.
Using Pebble Time. You can find discussions about pebble vs. other (android wear) watches on reddit.
Extremely happy with my watch. It's not pricey as other watches, 150$ and you get one week battery life.
I'm using the LG Urbane. It's nice but the phone's battery sure has taken a hit (even though I use it less).
LG Watch R and yes, love it
