I decided to give Project Fi a try after the word came down about Verizon raising the rates for unlimited data plans. Long story short, it's not for me. The coverage stinks in the areas I travel. Battery life took a big hit due to it having trouble finding and keeping a signal. I thought it would be better having looked at the TMo coverage maps. Anyway, that's a different topic.
I hadn't canceled my Verizon account so I put that SIM back in and it seems like I am connected to Verizon's network again. All the texts sent to that number came through once the phone was turned on with the VZW SIM back in. However, I can't make any calls. I get an operator error about being unable to complete the call. The Cellular Network Settings only has a roaming setting. Don't have the Enhanced VoLTE option and the other things I had prior to switching to Fi. Did the *#*#4636#*#* thing to try turning the radio off and on, turning on the VoLTE provisioning flag, rebooted, etc. No change in my ability to make calls. Anyone have any ideas what I need to do to get voice calls working again? If it matters, I am on 5.1.1 LMY48T.

The solution is to go into the calls section of the dialer and disable the call assistant settings.
https://www.reddit.com/r/ProjectFi/...ing_between_verizon_and_project_fi_sim_cards/
OK, so I can make calls again by changing the setting above. But I am without simultaneous voice and data. Still missing most settings under Cellular Network. Any ideas on how to get that back? Is there anything I need to toggle in the *#*#4636#*#* menu?
I'm having the same problem. But the issue is my phone is operating In Ireland, I've never lived in the u.s but I don't have call assistant in my dialer settings...I have data and texts and can receive calls but can't dial out, I obviously don't have access to projectfi here in Ireland and it is installed on my phone but its disabled and always has been, really strange I flashed the ROM for marshmallow automatically suggested by NRT for my device, but I'm wondering if the rom I flashed was u.s. specific even though it didn't suggest that in the rom I flashed...it has me absolutely baffled.

This came up alot when the N6 was first released last year. You will need to factory wipe the phone, and then you will have full access to the Verizon network. There is an issue with putting in a Verizon SIM after using another carrier's SIM.. Not sure but it might have affected Sprint also. The posts are out there on XDA about this, if you dont trust me. You can search and find them.

Sorry for the late reply. Life got in the way of me checking back on this thread sooner.
I believe you about the factory reset fixing it. Was just hoping there was an easier way so I don't have to setup my phone again. Perhaps the Marshmallow OTA will fix it but who knows when we'll get that. I'm tired of dealing with the signal issues I have as a result of switching back and forth so I'm going to do the reset. Just to confirm, this is the option under Settings > Backup & reset, right? Or is it something I need to boot into recovery to do?

I thought I had wifi calling working, but now I suspect it isn't. I don't have the indicators others have such as the quick tile or the dialer indicating it is a wifi call. I checked the setting and see that I have wifi calling (wifi preferred) enabled and the cellular network type is IWLAN in the SIM status.
I thought it might be because of Google Voice so I turned that off. I ensured that I have my E911 address set. I had "wifi calling" on my account from awhile back and assumed that was necessary. I just removed it to troubleshoot the issue below and now cannot get it back. Not sure if others have that.
Here is the logcat error message:
Code:
D/PollingManager( 4414): phone state: 0 0 voice home data home T-Mobile T-Mobile 310260 T-Mobile T-Mobile 310260 LTE IWLAN CSS not supported -1 -1 RoamInd=-1 DefRoamInd=-1 EmergOnly=false
I have stock LYZ28E with MDM9625_10649.09.05.14R radio.
Same here. If I try to place a call with WiFi calling enabled the call ends immediately. There's no indication that it's using WiFi calling other than the call ending immediately.
I spent a good bit of time on the phone with a very helpful tech at T-Mobile trying to troubleshoot this. I didn't have the feature enabled on my account so she fixed that and told me it could take a few hours to show up. Still not working yet, but she did mention she was going to start (or add) my number to an internal thread so they could track. I'd encourage everyone having issues to call and make sure you get to the actual tech folks so they have an accurate accounting of the problem. At this point I'm assuming it's a bug but we'll see...
Edit: Rebooted and have wifi calling enabled, was able to make a call and my Google voice number showed up on the other end. In my case it seems the problem was that I didn't have the feature enabled in T-Mobile's system.
It wasn't working at all for me. I even flashed back to encrypted and unrooted and used the factory image. Never saw "WiFi calling" even though it was enabled. Eventually I just went back to Chroma. He said he has T-Mobile WiFi Calling working and it'll be in his next build.

Can you clarify what you mean about your GV number showing up on the other end? GV and T-Mobile WiFi calling are 2 completely different things.

Was clarifying the two do work together as they should, just to rule it out as a potential part of the problem.
My phone is still showing wifi calling as active so the change on T-Mobile's side seems to have fixed things for me.
I'm having issues with WiFi calling as well. Haven't been able to get it to work and bootloader, radio and baseband are all updated and on E ROM. No matter what i do it doesn't work.
I've made a few calls now since T-Mobile updated my account, it's working well on both my home and work wifi networks.
Hello, I recently purchased a gpe nexus 6 for my cell carrier Thumb cellular. Small company that uses verizon towers in rural America (LRA) one of the bigger LRA carriers is bluegrass cellular if it would help any. Basically these LRA carriers partner with verizon to give coverage in rural areas otherwise skipped over. The phones themselves are almost exact clones over their verizon counterparts for what that may matter.
My issue is I have a bug where I can not send out sms messages on lte but when preferred network is set to CDMA only Prl it works. Set back to lte CDMA and they fail to send again. Everything else including receiving sms works. Any idea on what I can do because I don't want to send this device back. Seen its common on CDMA carriers but no real fix has been found besides to stay off lte. Any help would be great, Thank you
Sounds to me like it might be something with the APN's. Maybe you could look at another (android) phone that works properly, and see the apn's, and then manually enter them in the nexus?

I have a galaxy s5 on the same network and saved the apns and restored on the nexus using apn backup restore, I get lte and can send mms. The issue is sending regular sms while on lte. If I force 3g or even 1x I have no issues sending a text. Seen its common issue with this phone on a CDMA network but no idea what to do to fix, updated to stock 5.1 as soon as I received the phone, tried chroma as well as bliss pop and all have the same issues. Really don't want to return the phone but doesn't seem like there is a fix

Why did you do apn backup/restore rather than letting the n6 pull apn info from your sim? That may be why you're experiencing issues?
Although, standard sms doesn't have any specific apn settings afaik, and should just work as long as standard voice works...
Btw, what build are you running?

Did that before I restored apns actually. Had an issue so that's when I used my thumb cellular apns which are different then the verizon ones it gives me thinking it would help me for some odd reason even though apns have nothing to do with sms.
If I go to dialer and dial *#*#4636#*#* I have LTE/GSM/CDMA AUTO (PRL) everything works except sending an sms. Only thing that won't work. If I change it to CDMA only I will get either 1x or 3g but my phone works how it should. Should have absolutely nothing to do with apn settings. Seen this issue is common on verizon but more so on sprint but not everyone is plagued with this problem, but exchanges and new sim cards don't fix the issue for those whom experience it.
I'll post a log cat, I don't know what to look for so if someone could it would be great. I'm testing with 8sms
https://www.dropbox.com/s/xwj5q7wut05ybhl/Log_2015-05-30_22-12-22.txt?dl=0
I'm looking for answers too I have a similar carrier (another partnered with Verizon in the lra agreement) and interested in buying a n6 provided this issue can be resolved. Being a carrier that functions the same way I'm 99% sure I'd also have this same problem.
What doesn't make sense is that when network mode is set to LTE/CDMA AUTO prl, you cannot send sms but you can receive them, send/receive mms, make and receive phone calls etc. But if you do cdma only and limit it to 3g, it all works.
Does anyone have any suggestions in things to try?

Try this: go to *#*#4636#*#* and do turn on SMS over ims or if it's on turn it off and see if that changes anything...

I tried that before and had no luck. Going to try different modems tomorrow and a couple BP edits. Running out of ideas to try sadly. Only idea I have is how the phone is communicating with the network, same issue I saw on the nexus back in November with the sprint network. Seems like a radio update fixed the problem.
Hey guys,
I bought a Nexus 6 two months ago while I was on T-Mobile. I got fed up with T-Mobile service (constantly dropping calls, not receiving all text messages, etc) and decided to switch to Verizon. I took my phone to Verizon last night, they scanned it and gave me a nano SIM. I was surprised how easy it was, given the headaches others have seemed to endure trying to get a Verizon SIM. Everything seemed to work on Verizon's end, according to the person who helped me.
The problem is, I can't get LTE to work with voice/text. If I go to Settings -> More -> Cellular Networks -> Preferred Network Type, I have 3 options to choose from: Global, LTE/CDMA, LTE/GSM/UMTS. If I select LTE/GSM/UMTS, I get LTE data, but I can't send/receive calls or texts. If I select Global or LTE/CDMA, I can send/receive calls and texts but I only get 3g data. If I go to Phone Info (*#*#4636#*#*) and set network type to LTE Only, the same thing happens...LTE data only, but no calls/texts.
This is about the limit of my ability to troubleshoot problems. What am I missing?
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!
Did you properly configure the APN settings for Verizon? Your problem may be with that. Do a Google search for Verizon APN settings for Nexus 6...your answer may lie there.
most people have to factory reset their phones when going from another carrier to verizon, to get lte to work properly.

There were about 50 APNs when I checked. I deleted all of them and created a new one based on the following:
Name: Verizon
APN: vzwinternet
MMSC: mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms (with http, but won't let me post when typed out)
MMS port: 80
APN type: default,supl,mms
Everything else was left default. Restarted my phone. I am still only getting 3g on Global and LTE/CDMA, still can't make calls with LTE/GSM/UMTS.

I did a factory data reset this morning.
There are at least 5 - and as much as 10 - APN setting setups for Verizon. You may have to try them all. I put a Verizon Sim in my N6 and they all showed up in the list of APNs. When you deleted them you may have deleted the one most compatible with the N6. You may have to reset, put back in the Verizon Sim, and hope they all repopulate the APN section. If not, you'll have to search for them all and try each setup.
I can reset the default APNs and they will all show up again...without having to factory reset.
Do I need to reset the phone without the Verizon SIM inserted? I left the SIM inside when I reset this morning. I only ask because you mentioned resetting the phone and then re-inserting the Verizon SIM.
Thanks for your help.
I generally remove Sims and SD cards (not applicable here) when doing a reset as my line of precaution. Since you are able to restore the default APNs, do so, and try each one till you get the proper one.
Tmobile has their own software version/radio pushed out to Nexus 6's. You can try loading the Verizon software version/radio and see if it works.
Try this one: http://www.randomphantasmagoria.com/firmware/nexus-6/shamu/vzw/

I found the problem. When the Verizon rep installed the sim, she immediately dialed *228. After googling LTE problems, I've found out that *228 on a LTE phone is a very bad thing. I got a new SIM and everything is now working.
Thanks again!

So I was bored and wanted to play around and try to get this to work. So far I have been successful to get data text and mms working on 3G. Now I have noticed that when I boot the phone that it connects to LTE with a strong signal then it reconnects back to 3G its almost like its possible but something it blocking it. Has anyone had success getting further?
UPDATE: I have gotten FULL LTE on Verizon working. Currently trying to figure out a way to allow CDMA as well for calls
Ya good luck I had same issue as you . Talk text 3g working good. Or LTE only working .Never could figure out how to get them both going
Yea I know after hours of messing around lol and two sim cards wasn't satisfying enough I like the phone enough to jump off big red to try T-Mobile. I honestly like this phone better then my Pixel XL
I ditched my Verizon unlimited data plan for cricket unlimited and have no regrets. Best choice I ever made

It won't work it's one or the other. You are wasting your time
The city I live In has Verizon's xlte network and if you upgrade to advanced Calling then voice calls and messages all use 4g LTE data instead of CDMA, so I would only need LTE data to work, I was able to get the 1+1 to get Verizon's signal but after 5 mins they noticed and intentionally blocked me off their Network a message popped up on the 1+1 saying I had been blocked

Just curious how you have "LTE" activated on the phone. I turned on "only LTE", but I get absolutely nothing. I am only interested in LTE on t he phone, I do not need to make voice calls of SMS
Force LTE provisioning
I know that people had the same issue on the ZTE axon 7 but we're able to force LTE provisioning by going into the dialer and dialing *#*#4636#*#*. This brings up a hidden test menu and under phone information there is a switch for LTE provisioning. It takes a few tries but eventually sticks on the axon. Can someone try this on the one plus phones to see if it works?
I know this has been rehashed many times, but I thought I'd share a my experiences of how to make the 3T usable on Verizon. Main reason I have the 3T is dual SIM and OEM bootloader unlock. Fantastic device. Switched from Verizon to AT&T just for the phone. The problem is my work uses Verizon. I refuse to carry two phones. So what I've done to solve this is bought the GravityBox app, which has a feature that allows, (among many things!) you to add a custom quick setting shortcut for Network Mode. It lets you decide which SIM the setting applies to, as well as any network modes to cycle through when pressing the shortcut. I of course pick the Verizon SIM. And only select two network modes: 1 CDMA only and 2 LTE only. CDMA only allows calls, text and 2G to work perfectly. When a sending or receiving a MMS on Verizon SIM, or needing to use Verizon LTE, I toggle to Verizon LTE only. This does kick AT&T offline for some reason, but beings that I rarely need to use Verizon data, it's not that big of deal.
So on Monday ATT decided to deactivate my sim card because they believe my phone is incompatible with their network now. All my bars went to 0 with an x on it and I couldn't do anything on the phone. I went to an ATT store, got them to give me a new activated sim and I put it in my phone and all my bars came back.
My phone says VoLTE again too by the signal bar area. I also tested a text and it went through fine. I received a phone call and while it works fine, it sounds like junk now. Like it is no longer actually using VoLTE like it always has. My phone doesnt seem to have any data however, when it should have LTE just fine. I also cannot make any calls, even though it says VoLTE on the phone, it just re-routes to ATT customer service instead of going through with the call.
When I go into the network area in settings it says no IP address either. I looked and my APN is set to nxtgenphone, Preferred Network Type selected on LTE. Before ATT deactivated my sim card LTE has always worked fine, and LTE should still work fine. It is only the 3G network being shut down. Also given the fact I have the VoLTE icon the phone is apparently connecting somewhat to an LTE network.
So does anyone know how to fix settings to get data working again? Is it just an APN that needs to change? What is everyone else doing with the network shutdown and has anyone else had issues like this?
I had the exact same issue, your issue is in fact APN settings I'm having them as well. Try deleting your current APN and putting in a new one. Once I got a new sim my APN reset I could call but no data and no text. I have half of the APN information in place and have data and basic text, but once I input the MMS port the APN data disappears still trying to figure that out. Not sure if anything I typed is helpful but at least you know your not alone with a mi11 on ATT and it can work

Thanks for the reply. I tried deleting the MMS port and also the proxy just now and data didnt come back. I will try searching around for more APN info for how phones are supposed to connect now and see if I can find anything.
It looks like from what I could find that it is due to an IMEI whitelist ATT has, blocking data connection on any device not in their whitelist. The solution seems to be to root the phone and change your IMEI to a whitelisted model.
While my phone is rooted my IMEI is not cloned I definitely would not share my IMEI with ATT. When I got my sim card yesterday I had the attendant activate but I did not provide my phone so he did not get the IMEI from my phone. If you got a sim and they input your IMEI that could be a problem possibly. Just a suggestion to try and get a sim activated at a store without your phone.
I had also heard that most ATT MVNOs were not having the device whitelist forced on them yet, so I went and tried 2 different ones yesterday. Both failed to get the phone working on their network with their sims.
Before I went through the hassle of rooting (and most likely losing payments) I tried ATT again anyway. I used their online customer service chat and the first person I chatted with said he could help me with the lte data problem and the IMEI issue. I was skeptical, but he actually did fix it all up. He just needed my sim ICCID and my phones IMEI1 and he submitted the info to their backend people for adding to their system. It took almost an hour and a half for it to get added, but overall it was a pretty painless process and I was browing the web most of the time while waiting in chat. I now have LTE data again, VoLTE again, and "5G" too (which ATT 5G is really just one or two more features than normal LTE and is no faster in speed and uses LTE data bands). I attached a screenshot showing the data and VoLTE working on my phone. The first signal is ATT, the second is TMobile (which has always worked and never had an issue, their 3G network shutdown is going on for another 4-5 months)

Happy you are back up and running and I'm glad that you found someone at ATT to do the fairly easy work of getting your IMEI cleared. Lots of people have been worried about devices not working on ATT because of this whitelist issue glad to see there are workarounds just wish ATT didn't make it so convoluted.
