A couple questions: first, did you use any of the root 'exploits' before you unlocked the bootloader? If you did then you need to return to Stock before you can flash custom recovery.
Did you use 'mfastboot' to flash TWRP? If not, try that.
There is one individual I helped that had a similar issue. We never figured out what the problem was, but I had him follow the instructions in the "Return to Stock" thread to flash the entire Stock SBF for their carrier, and afterwards the recovery flashed PERFECT. If you do this, be SURE to flash ONLY the same version you are currently on. Do NOT 'downgrade' or flash an earlier firmware version.
Now you have some ideas. Let us know if they help resolve your issue.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2404256
Questions go in the Q&A section.
@FlexZer0,
As @samwathegreat mentioned, if you have rooted using something like SlapMyMoto, RockMyMoto, or PwnMyMoto, or have used MotoWpNoMo on this phone, you'll probably want want to flash your full SBF to get back to stock. (make sure you use the EXACT same rom as what is currently on your phone!!! do NOT attempt to downgrade!!)
In addition to that, something that is VERY important... immediately after flashing custom recovery, you want to reboot into bootloader/fastboot mode and go into recovery. You do NOT want to flash recovery and then reboot normally. For some reason this step is necessary or the recovery doesn't "stick." For example, see steps 8 & 9 at -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/moto-x-qa/step-step-instructions-unlocking-t2649738
Now, if you follow that entire process, please keep in mind it was written/posted a while ago, so it has older links to mFastboot, TWRP and SuperSU...
The latest can be found at the following:

SuperSU -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/moto-x-qa/step-step-instructions-unlocking-t2649738

how are you trying to boot recovery? did you notice the legend?:
Vol Up: Selects
Vol Down: Scrolls
Thanks for the replay guys I know how to boot to the recovery and how to get into the fastboot mode. And I have moto x carrier free which means it's does not locked with the carrier like AT&T and Verizone etc. So whenever I searched for the exploits I only found the exploits for carrier locked versions of moto x.

How exactly did you "unlock" the bootloader? From Motorola's official website?

Yup from motorola's website. I got bootloader unlocked warning screen while booting and boot loader status: unlocked in fastboot mode so I'm pretty sure it's unblocked.

OK, good.
Did you try my advice from Post # 2? Flashing the entire Stock SBF for your carrier? Then after a successful boot, flash TWRP again, and afterwards, type:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
then use VOL DOWN to select recovery, and VOL UP to select it?
Hi everybody,
A few days ago, I rooted my Mexican XT1225. I shut it down for a day (my main cellphone is the new Moto X), turn it on again and now it's stuck on fastboot.
I could boot into TWRP (by flashing it temporarily with fastboot on Linux) and then I decided to wipe data and then install the new lollipop zip file. But it failed saying it could not mount /system /data or anything really, I basically have it without format, all partitions say 0MB.
So I tried flashing with fastboot, but it gave me an error when flashing the partition gpt.bin, it didn't give me an error when flashing other files. Still stuck, now I cannot even access the recovery menu, it goes just into fastboot mode and does not show the little recovery menu anymore.
Then I tried flashing with RSD, still same problem. It fails when setting the fb_mode_set and when I delete that line from the xml it fails again on flashing gpt.bin
EDIT: I am attaching a log file of TWRP evidencing this.
Any ideas on how to get back to normal? How can I redo the partition in another way?
Thanks in advance,
Gustavo

Yes, unlocked bootloader. Removed the gpt.bin flash line and still no luck. Tried flashing several files, the Indian Lollipop, the Mexican Kitkat, nothing has worked.

After re reading your post I understood what's wrong, you have to flash the lollipop OTA on stock recovery not twrp or rsd lite, once you flash it you can put back twrp

I have the xml.zip file, extracted it and manually flashed partition by partition. Something I have previously done with my 1st gen Moto X, my Razr HD and even my Atrix, if I remember correctlly. Even RSD Lite should work with those files.
Still, I will try to boot with the stock recovery, since right now I cannot access it. I will also seek a way to get the xml.zip file inside the storage, since I cannot even mount it with TWRP (It shows 0mb drive)

Twrp for this device it's not very stable I got that errors too
Just flash mexico firmware then the OTA zip on stock recovery and you will be good to go.
If you can't access recovery press vol- and power with the phone turned off and you'll be able to select recovery
Hi,
I have tried the vol+power and cannot access recovery.
When I try to flash Mexico's firmware (through either RSD or manually in Linux using fastboot), I am unable to flash partition gpt.bin, but I can flash everything else. Yet, in spite of flashing everything else, I cannot get out of the fastboot loop.
I am attaching some photos of what happens. The first one is the only thing that boots, cannot access recovery, cannot boot normally. The second photo is what happens when I press the volume button many times.
So when you select recovery does it power off or just go back to fastboot again?

Hi, I dan only go yo fastboot. The menú does not appear. The only thing that appears is the photo of my previous post.
I can boot into TWRP by manually doing fastboot boot twr-recovery.IMG
Hmmm, doesn't look good. The fastboot screen doesn't even load the picture of the green Android. I am thinking the partition table is messed up. I know I saw something similar with the original(2013) Moto X a while back. You may want to do some searching in that forum.

Hola Steve,
Indeed, it looks like the partition table is messed up, I will look for that Moto X thread.
@Jaocagomez I have tried that, but it fails with gpt.bin partition flash and even after flashing everything else (RSD, fastboot or TWRP) it does not work.
After reading quite a lot on the Internet, it seems that my problem happened to some Moto G and Moto X users. Seems to be that I am trying to flash a gpt.bin that is older than the one already in my phone. I will try again when the Mexican Lollipop image is released in xml.zip format.
In the mean time, I will continue to search for solutions.
Hi
I think I have the same issue.
I have XT1225 bought it from Amazon (I asked the company and they said Puerto Rico origin) factory unlocked. had 4.4.4 and tried to upgrade to 5.0.2. Here is what I exactly did:
devices not rooted, locked bootloader
downloaded RSD Lite
downloaded the official 5.0.2 India Firmware
tried to flash it using RSD
got an error in flashing boot from RSD
I tried to do it again and I get the same issue, I tried to flash the Puerto Rico 4.4.4 and it didnt work (it get stuck in partition gpt) and my device is dead. I tried to unlock the bootloader using the code from motorola and it says allow oem unlock from developer menu
tried doing it manually using mfastboot with both 5.0.2 and 4.4.4 and still didnt work.
please let me know if you managed to fox your problem or if anyone can help us get back our devices

Hi Guys,
I stupidly did not realise my device (XT1072) was a different slightly different model to the moto g 2014.
I unlocked the bootloader and installed TWRP, then tried to install Cyanogenmod 12.1, this failed giving an error "Error executing updater binary in zip" Which I guess is due to it being a different model, right? After receiving this error I did some googling and found on a few sites that I should wipe data, system, cache & dalvik cache to resolve this. I did this and tried to flash it again, with the same error. Now my phone is stuck on the "warning bootloader unlocked screen" I can boot into fastboot mode, but is there any official Motorola images for my device anywhere? I have had a look online and cant find anything. :crying:
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Format system is completely wipe previous android version,
You need a custom ROM (I'm assuming you have custom recovery for your device model)
Or fastboot a original image for you're device

Hi,
Thank you for your reply. I also tried with CWM_Touch_Titan_v2 recovery image. But when I tried to flash the stock rom RETGBALL_XT1072_5.0.2_LXB22.46-28_cid7_subsidy-DEFAULT_CFC.xml using mfastboot method, it shows on the phone screen "image too large".
As you have faced the same problem, would you be kind enough to give a step by step instruction to solve the issue. My phone is just stuck to unlocked bootloader warning screen for days.
My phone is Moto g XT1072 4G LTE.
Your help could save my days...

Why are u flashing an xml file? XML files are not rom files
The link provided above by mic_he has step by step instructions to restore phone back to stock
Your phone is not bricked. You deleted your system so there is no os to boot. The link should restore you back to stock

I have tried those instruction earlier. when I enter "mfastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img" is says "Bootloader preflash validation failed" and when I enter "mfastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.0" onthe phone screen is says "Image too large". After going through all the steps when I reboot, it does not ever get past unlocked bootloader warning screen.
I really do not know which other option to try??

Unmounting system before flashing usually stops that problem. What I like to do is wipe data, system, cache & dalvik then reboot to recovery before flashing the rom.

hello sir! could you solve the problem with thw XT1072? Can you give me some instructions? cheers
It works!!!!! I could restore my system back with these steps!
Here´s the info
http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...e-restore-moto-e-2015-stock-firmware-t3054303
I followed the steps and when I was triyng to Flash each of the partitions in sequence using mfastboot get an error
I get an error with one of the files, (don´t remember now but I think was with the mfastboot flash logo logo.bin line
This give me an error, try to fix it and i couldn´t so I continue with the other files in the order listed and when the process was finished the phone was working again!!!!
Enter twrp recovery
Wipe system data cache dalvik
Put any rom like cm in microsd card or usb
And flash it using twrp

Hi, I have facing this problem too on my XT1063. My phone do boot to system but all the app are getting FCs, so I decided to flash another ROM like usual and All of this give me that "Error executing updater binary in zip", so I trie to wipe AND format all partition from TWRP and FASTBOOT with no success. Via Fastboot says: "File system type raw not supported." So I cant change to a new ROM, I cannot even flash other recovery....
So if you guys find a solution of this problem very users like me will be very thankful.

Flash in fastboot: bootloader (optional), radio, system, boot and recovery if needed and reboot.
Hello I'm new to rooting and really all of this and I can't flash TWRP onto my Moto X 2013 (on 5.1). My phone's bootloader is unlocked, but I've been having trouble actually rooting it. I have no problems getting to fastboot and I'm confident I've been following instructions accurately.
I've been following this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/how-to-how-to-root-5-1-unlocked-t3140217
I've made sure I have everything installed, and my adb and mfastboot are set-up correctly for use in CMD. I'm even using TWRP 2.8.6.0 since the guide I'm using said there's an issue with 2.8.7.0. However, when I use the command mfastboot flash recovery twrp.img (I renamed TWRP) it says:
(bootloader) Variable not supported!
target max-download-size: 768MB
error:cannot load 'twrp.img': No error
Can someone give me a pointer as to what I'm doing wrong please? I'd really like to get my Moto X rooted. I've tried tons of guides and I always get to this step and this is where it goes wrong.
