Hey if you find a root for htc desire 626 vzw plz let me know. And visa versa
Have you found anything I'm in the same boat.. any help is greatly appreciated
no ones been able to do it yet. the boot loader is locked in a different fashion then the other 626 variants.
I got the phone when they had a trade in credit. I didnt even think to check the development progress on it before I bought it. needless to say I'm a bit bummed by it but nothing I can really do about it.

I'm guessing no one has found a way to root or unlock the boot loader on the Verizon variant yet?
I haven't found a way yet.

Once we get root this will be huge. Until then we need to remember this trick

you can see all the Motorola cloud stuff by going to testing and Motorola services. *#*#4636#*#* in the dialer gets you to testing. Don't know if this has any usefulness to it just thought id share.

I hope root comes for the phone soon, the amount of VZW crap ware is crazy.
Has anyone tried z4 to see what happens?
I'm sure it doesn't work cause if its that simple we would be rooted

all of the available root options have been tried by various members of this forum and others as well. its probably going to be a while before we get root.

Time is what it takes, and it has to be made worthwhile for devs to spend their time on it. ICS is coming and lets face it many will be looking to that as the next great frontier.
I know from various forums that with the confirmed members who will put up enough coin a ambitious dev would get enough to easily pay for a D3.
Can the Droid 3 be used on T-Mobile if unlocked or rooted? I ask because I noticed a SIM card slot. Thanks..
So I called the number off this link below and they claim they can unlock the Droid 3 for AT&T and it would work on 3g. Also, they can do the same for T-Mobile but it would only work on Edge. Can anyone confirm this? Has anyone dealt with this site before? Thanks.

so i dont know but ive been derpin around and noticed a couple things....first off apparently there is a sdk that has been updated for the droid 3 over at MOTODEV site....i was looking through some settings and enabled data encryption which required a boot into some sort of recovery where the internal disk obviously allowed -rw access inwhich i was wondering if it would be possible to dump this process through ADB (maybe find handshake)....and a simple ls command thru term reveals bloatware galore
Have we looked at te exploit that the nexus users are using? They can root 2.3.3, 2.3.4, and now 2.3.5. Seems we should use their exploit if possible

Unlocked bootloader makes rooting easier. What works for them (unlocked) will not work for the Droid 3 (locked bootloader).

They say it's the XT860 which is technically not the droid 3 but the non CDMA version of it being deployed by Bell Canada (which should be easy enough to unlock for AT&T and T-Mobile)

Unless it's like the D2G, in which case it's locked from AT&T-Mobile.
Protip: call VZW Global Services and tell them you're going to India (no global plans over there - you have to either not use your phone or rack up a giant bill) and ask for the SIM unlock code. Account has to be in good standing and the device has to be on your line.
If you have 6 months of good standing you can just ask for an unlock with no reason given.

There's a lot of info floating around out there so I figured I'd try to set the record straight. And I can't be the only ones with these questions, so it might be good to have the answers all in one place.
From what I understand, the root for the note 3 on other carriers is working, even though some are still listed as untested. What would happen if one was to try the procedure on the at&t variant?
Next question is more of just a general outlook for the rooting future of this device. Is it looking like its doable, a hell of a challenge, or just plain impossible?

At&t Note III...& At&t G Pro
Same goes for the Rogers Wireless SM-N900W8 version in Canada... Usually anything that works for the AT&T perks for us so I'm just waiting....

From everything that I have read over the past couple of days AT&T has a locked bootloader. The TMobile version doesn't have one. The reason why root works for it is because it flashes a custom recovery like CWM or TWRP and then roots it from there. That is not possible with a locked bootloader. I would rather get the TMobile version of the Note 3 and just SIM unlock it and use it on AT&T but coming up with $700+ dollars is not an option for me. So I can only hope an exploit is found for the AT&T version.

There will always be a workaround. The phones only been out a little while so it's always best to wait and be patient. Yeah it sucks but early stuff can be unstable. No matter how hard it gets lock down it's not going to be "unlockable". It's just a matter of how much work it's going to take to unlock it.
Well its pretty much going 2 be a hell of a challenge. I'm coming from att Galaxy S4 & it has been crazy over there as far as this bootloader locking with att. U do have root but things haven't been easy by no means so I'm sure it'll be no easier with this device, if not more difficult. But hey I'm optimistic, if we can just get root I'll be happy...

I find the loki recovery to be easy on the S4.. remember Sprint and Verizon also will have lock bootloaders.
I doubt the two largest networks (Vzw, AT&T) will be left in the dirt.

Everyone thought the same about the S4 with the mf3 update then it got rooted with safestrap to load roms. Everyone thought you couldn't reverse it but it is now reversible. There is even a one click app to root it. Just give it some time.

TBH, you'd be better off buying a HTC One ATT/T-Mo variant since (I think, but haven't looked up) all frequencies work on it.
Anyways, you should be able to just insert the SIM and you should be good to go. Make sure you go into your Mobile Network settings, and change the mode to GSM. Alternatively you could go into testing (*#*#4636#*#*) and change the mode to something like WCDMA preferred.
I'm looking to upgrade through sprint and I want to know if I get the same phone through them as I would through Google or if it's going to be bloated or locked down in some way. Please key me know if you knew there is a difference in nexus 6s as bought through a carrier

If you can get the 64gb thru sprint at a discount, do it. The same phone. Same way you root, unlock bootloader, and install TWRP.
Then flash the heck out of it.

Sprint Nexus 6 is unlocked, no bloat and is the same as GPE or Motorola phone except Sprint Sim card is already installed.

A long story short is, I mistakenly said my Canadian note 5 was Rogers and the provided unlock did not work... I then corrected it to the proper carrier, which was MTS. The replied eventually with the same code. Which did not work..... So I tried another, expensive website... Which returned with the same code... Which did not work. I am now $60 into the unlocks... And nothing! I have unlocked 1000 phones using this method and sites.....
Does anyone have any ideas or solutions? Thanks
A hammer?
