OK, rather than hijack a thread, this is what I posted last night in the class action thread:

What he said...but I am a little under the influence right now. To be honest, my phone works for GPS, works for email, works for web browsing, sync's via activesync, plays movies just fine (no slider issues when adjusting sound), allows me to read ebooks, works with office mobile (though I would like to be able to save Word documents as .DOC files, not .DOCX). Guess I'm with the 99% because I really don't see any issues with the phone that cause me to get on a soapbox. I really don't care if this makes me unpopular, but I'm so sick of people coming on this forum and moaning about video driver issues. Show me one other device that does all the things that a Kaiser can do? iPhone, no GPS and limited open source unless you want to run the risk of bricking the device, Nokia? Please, I had the 9xxx series of communicators for years. I had the choice between the latest comunicator series or the Kaiser, I went with the Kaiser as Symbian sucked. The N95, QWERTY keyboard???
This phone is not designed as a graphics device, its a business tool. If you want DVD quality movies, buy a portable DVD player, graphic intensive games, get a PSP. I have a Nokia 2110 mobile from 10 years ago that can't handle MID files, a Garmin Sat-Nav the size of a house brick and a digital camera that uses 3.5" floppy discs cause memory cards hadn't been invented when it was launched. HTC have packed an MP3 player, sat-nav, laptop computer, digital camera, mobile phone (...the list goes on) inside a device the size of a packet of cigarettes. Personally I think this is amazing, lets give them a bit of credit for doing this!

So, are you saying that just because it's business-oriented, its camera should continue to suffer from video driver issues? That it should be slower to process anything with some graphics in it, business-related, entertainment or otherwise?

GPS, email, office - fine.
Web browsing - not at all - see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qbaDLzOU_Y
Syncing - fine, except mine disconnects randomly when connected via bluetooth
Movies - I haven't seen a single movie playing fluently on TyTN II
Is this really acceptable for you? Especially for such expensive device? I paid nearly $1000 for device that my 5 (!) year old iPaq h2210 can easily outperform at ANYTHING?

I've never understood the driver issues, as I haven't witnessed them. Looking at the YouTube video posted, that is very worrying, but I would like to know how were such poor results achieved?
This is my Kaiser (running the stock o2 ROM). Firstly it shows a video being played on my laptop, second the same section of the same video on my Kaiser. Then a web page in PIE, followed by a bit of surfing on Opera. From my video, it seems to perform just fine. So am I just really lucky, or am I missing something?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrHwG6xpc-E
Nope I get the same results.
Well, i dont have big issues with movies.
However, i notice a lot of "lag" effects sometimes when scrolling. Of course installed the scrolling fix for IE, which makes it far better, but still, there is interface lag.
This lag is easily noticeable when you try to close an app and need to point your stylus like 3 or 4 times on the top right X before anything appears.
Also noticeable when you scroll in the "programs" window , interface lag, the scrolling is bad, really... The icons in the programs windows look like they disappear (this part of the screen becomes totally blank/white) then half-reappear then disappear etc... It is UGLY. When scrolling in program window, what should be SEEN would be real scrolling icons, fluid and all ! It should be nice, fluid, and shouldnt look like the screen refresh is 1 frame / second.
With such a processor and the included ATI thingy i would have thought of a faster interface avoiding such lag tbh.
The Stargate video that you're showing on your tilt in your video, did you conver that first?
If not, I'd like to know the stats on the video. Whats the resolution, file size, etc.
I've copied music videos to my phone and they play like crap. I had to spend $30 on conversion software and wait for the media to be converted down before I was able to watch anything.
Stargate Atlantis episodes that are 350mb take a long time to convert. To me it's a waste of time. I'd rather have a fully functional device with proper video support. Software rendering makes the screen draw slow and makes the device lag.
So, have you copied any video files at all to your phone and had them not play correctly? Or are you saying that every video you've tried has worked fine?
That has NOT been my experience. I have to convert everything to 320x240 at 640 bitrate before my phone will play video smoothly.
There is no need to argue, the phone is capable of doing more, why not just face the fact.. If it can do more, what's the use on arguing "its already good enough??" No its not, the camera is the worse thing ive ever seen.
Dont get me wrong, the phone is great. I love it. The reception is the best ive ever seen.. But we just want them to correct the video driver issue, that is all. Its not harming you... is it? No need to drunk rant ..
Oh and by the way, technology is supposed to improve, the phone is an upgrade. Did it upgrade? No. I see no improvements..
Oh wait!, we got GPS .. I'll give you that.. Even then the GPS takes like 20 minutes to find a satallite. but it is great once its up and running.
I WOULD like to be able to turn on the eye candy and not destroy the usability of my device... even for business purposes
As the video seems to be really low res (QVGA at most) it should work, (we don't know about the bitrate but I'm assuming it's fairly low too).
Most of us who are complaining want a seamless experience. Ie we want to watch the regular videos we want on our computers on our mobile device.
IE scrolling seems nice enough, that seems to differ a bit between ROMs.
I can just share my experience from strart to "finish":
I read up on what device to get. Kaiser was very much hyped at the time. I took the time to read their webpage where they claim that the phone is "more powerful than any other mobile communicator". The same text says that the device is equally good for business and pleasure. It also reccomends using it for gaming:
http://www.htc.com/product/03-product_tytn_II.htm
"More powerful than any mobile communications device you've seen before"
"perfectly for reading and creating e-mails, using applications, or even just playing games."
"Always ready for business - and pleasure"
I also took the time to check out the MSM7200 processor and what that was all about.
Now my primary focus is business. I wanted Office Mobile and a nice contact manager etc. I have no gripes there.
The problem started showing up when I came to the gaming/pleaasure part.
I tried dragging and dropping some TV shows (700kbps 512x384 res) and the playback is prety lousy.
So I went out and bought CorePlayer for 25 bucks. First result was even worse. So then I figured out that I actually had to turn off the standard Windows Mobile rendering interface called DirectDraw. Seemed strange enough as this is THE standard interface for drawing video on a windows mobile device. With a lot of tweaking I got semi acceptable playback in the end.
A day later I started playing around with the camera. It took me about five seconds to realize that it was utterly flawed. Shutter speed (or rather the processing speed) makes the delay from the point where you click the button to where the picture is taken was so slow that none of my pictures came out right.
It's also exceedingly difficult to use the viewfinder seeing as it runs at less than 5 fps and with extreme blur.
Capturing video was also a downer. Instead of the 30 fps @ VGA resolution that the chipset touts I'm getting 10-15 fps and I might add that to me it looks like it's even less than that. Utterly unwatchable.
So ok, video playback and the camera was pretty awful. But as I said I mainly intended to use this for business so I didn't think much more of it.
So I tried surfing a bit on the web. I run a website and I wanted to check my bak account.
What I noticed was that as soon as I visited a "non-Mobile" website everything slowed down. Scrolling takes forever, and also simply rendering the page takes "too" long.
The mobile pages of my service provider works like a charm, but that's a no brainer seeing as they are meant to work on everything from the cheapest 50 dollar phones and up.
Then came the weekend. I was off to some friends that live out in the country. I had to go there by train.
So "hey, great time to load it up with some games".
Some of the games I've heard of was legend of steel and call of duty 2.
Well call of duty 2 was just as mess, with no open gl support.
legend works pretty well unless you actually try to play the game. As soon as the stylus hits that screen everything start going in slow motion.
I resorted to playing bubble breaker and tetris for the trip.
By this time I was pretty annoyed since my 3 year old Sony Ericsson el cheapo 3G-phone gave me a much better gaming experience than this.
So then I resorted to emulators. I really wanted to try out some nice emulating but again, performance was too low.
I didn't expect the TyTN II to be a Playstation Portable challenger but I didn't expect it to be just a typing machine with a calendar attached to it either.
I found this forum and surely enough I found out about the lack of drivers and everything suddenly made sense.
And the thing that bugs me the most about this is that the drivers are readily available to HTC, they just choose not to provide them to us.
So personally I'm a bit pissed off and I surely won't consider HTC a first hand alternative the next time I go shopping for a new PDA phone.

there you go (actually a true story even though a made it cheesy on purpose. )
oh yeah, PS I'm also pretty irritated by the lag that you get when you put the phone in landscape mode or vice versa. And the slight lag that happens when you start programs (you can actually see how the device renders in approx 10-20 lines at a time) it's not a deal breaker but I certainly expected more, especially since I've used similar phones using both pal, symbian and windows mobile and other OSes (even really cheap ones) that don't exhibit the same symptoms.
Still it's only a minor gripe...
The page you shown doesn't prove anything, it is contains for too less content. Try open forum.xda-developers.com you'll see the huge lag...

What he said!!! This is why I left sprint. I got the Mogul, was advertised GPS when it came out. Well to this date, they are waiting for a "rom update".
woo, we really don't need to go into this because by token of that same logic:
Your computer is a business tool, not an entertainment device.
Your car is a business tool and necessity. You don't need a cd player or radio.
etc. etc.
Now why is this a big issue? Because it was false advertising. Because what we bought wasn't just a big mac and some fries. And because what we bought wasn't worth $15. What we bought was worth more than $500 US. What we bought was a device that could do everything and more. Like a car, you didn't just buy it for business, but for pleasure. And to falsely advertise and prey on the good faith of us consumers isn't just bad. It's criminal.
The point is, even if you consider that the TyTN II a business phone and don't care about it preforming way below it's possibilities, the other HTC devices based on the MSM7200 and MSM7500 chipsets, like the Touch Dual and Touch Cruise, which suffer from the same problems, are certainly meant for 'fun user', not 'business user'. And their PREDECESSORS did all of this fine.
So everything you said is still BS.
The youtube Video demonstrates the Kaiser PIE Scroll bug issue, not the Video driver issue btw. That bug was fixed here. Most cooked ROMs now incorporate the fix.
Yes this will be corrected on the site (the GDI video is way better for demonstration anyway, too bad it's not a comparison).. and the new support reports will be added. But if you ask me this is just a distraction. They know full well what the problem is, this is just to give the illusion they really didn't know, and are trying to figure it out, so they can say it really wasn't their fault. They're just acting out a play.
Really, the responce changing not 24 hours after the sites were launched (and they were informed of this, after all) and only 2 or 3 hours after a fairly large tech site frontpaged it? That is not a coincidence.
I have an ipod touch for entertainment. Kaiser for work/travel. Best of both worlds.

I have a Kaiser which has the power to do both. Too bad it doesn't. By the way, since you seem to be such a huge fan of having multiple devices for doing multiple things, you should probably sell that Kaiser to get a flip phone, buy a PDA, get yourself a dedicated GPS receiver, and a Walkman radio, since having an all-in-one would be far too much integration for you.

I bout my Tilt for 588 USD, totally ignoring my upgrade date, with the hopes that i would no longer need two devices. Until they fix the issue, making the device into what I thought I was buying, I will continue to be pissed about this.

Post all gaming discussion here.
Currently I have mostly runner games (Temple Run, Minion Rush, Robot Unicorn Attack 2), PBA Bowling Challenge, Real Racing 3 and Fast & Furious 6 but I usually just play the runner games. Unfortunately RR3 does not run in 1080p but at a rather low resolution; I hope EA fixes this soon. FIFA 14 works though there are some occasional issues with the loading screen in the beginning (sometimes the app crashes or the whole system hangs and I must do a reset)
What games would you recommend for the HTC Butterfly s? For me I would prefer free games.

Here is my list what I've played on Butterfly S (all tested and fully working):
Contre Jour, Rayman Jungle Run (prefer this runner over all others), Townsmen, Anomaly Korea, Minion Rush, Iesabel, Aralon, Wild Blood, Dungeon Hunter 4, Bard's Tale, Angry Birds (although Angry Birds support FullHD, I'd rather play in HD - icons are too small).
Don't know what games are free, as I download them from 4pda site.
I have found a temporary fix for Real Racing 3's low resolution issue using Ultimate Rotation Control, a similar fix was found for the new Nexus 7 by another user (the only difference is that for the Butterfly s it must be set to "forced auto").
Install "Ultimate Rotation Control", and set it to "forced auto", then run the game holding your phone vertical position on the loading screen (it will hang) before rotating it. Enjoy! There doesn't seem to be any anti-aliasing, but it runs at a much higher resolution
It's rather tedious because Sense 5 UI does not properly support landscape mode and you may also accidentally rotate the phone back to portrait mode, but you can briefly go back to the home screen and change the Ultimate Rotation Control on your status bar to "auto" and quickly get back to your game.

Another note: Does anyone here play Blitz Brigade? It always crashes on the title screen on mine =/ On Play Store I see one reviewer who gave the game a good review so that suggests it might work on some devices...
I can confirm that Asphalt 8 is now officially supported on the Butterfly s, but like Real Racing 3, it does not seem to run at the full 1080p, but it doesn't look that bad (for RR3 I tried fiddling with the settings but it always looked low res, yet it still lags).
However I am having some touch input problems especially with the top side of the phone (the left side if you rotate it to horizontal position). Maybe it's because I have a screen protector that is not oleophobic and sweat registers a touch input, but I've seen other users complain of this problem too (see the PhoneDog comparison with HTC One)
GT Racing 2 runs fine and renders in 1080p.
The lack of 1080p rendering is not uncommon with newly released games on some devices also GS4 and Nexus 7 but I think HTC may need to do something about it.
Unfortunately the ultimate rotation control app only works for seven days and I can't find another app with the "force rotate" option.

nope, RR3 needs a Force Rotation option.
I think the low-resolution rendering of some games has to do with the lack of support for OpenGL ES 3.0... I really hope we get an update soon... =/
It seems they're focusing on the One line and not so much on the Butterfly s but I think our chances are faster than Droid DNA/Butterfly because our device is newer, and it's an unlocked device unlike the DNA.

Do games look better on 4.3? Does Asphalt or Real Racing 3 render in 1080p?
OK, Just went to Best Buy to demo the gear VR. First - the demo time is limited to 3 minutes which made it a little difficult to get a good idea.
My major problem with the demo was the image quality. Now I was not expecting miracles. I have read the forums and expected sd effect but this was major sd. Large pixels were unfocused where one could see the red/green/blue. It was almost like an old crt that had been badly focused. I almost wondered if they had a bum unit.
I was watching the trailers in the movie theaters btw.
So Im wondering - is this basically the quality one should expect from the VR currently? Has anyone had experience loading their own films on the unit and is the quality better than the trailers loaded on the unit?
Any opinions would be appreciated (Again - Im wondering if the unit they had was just a bad one)
Thanks

Did you try adjusting the focus wheel?
Yes - the focus wheel had little to no effect. Almost as if it was there for show.
Possibly broken but remember it's only a QHD screen so there will be pixels visable. We need to wait for 8k screens... I love me gearvr and amazed our phones offer this ability
-= Note 4 & Gear VR =-
Sounds like a defective unit to me. Yes the picture isn't perfect but "unfocused and can see the red/green/blue "definitely not. I've watched gravity, avatar ,xmen and godzilla all in 3d on the vr and obviously it's not like watching in on a hd TV but you are watching it on a 100ft large screen in a virtual cinema which you can't do at home
Wondering - Has anyone loaded on hd rips of movies and watched them vs the trailers that they have pre-loaded?
Is the quality improved? Maybe their trailers are low bit rate. Thanks

Doesn't sound broke. I can always see the red/green/blue in pixels when focused. It always reminded me of CRT TVs.
I don't see the red/green/blue at all. Sounds like defected units. Also my pixals are extremely small. Maybe because I have 15/20 vision with my contacts in? I don't know.

I see them pretty clearly
They are visible if you focus your attention on them. Once you focus your mind on video or game they disappear.

I believe focus issues have a lot to do with the alignment of your eyes and the 3D effect. If you eyes are not aligned properly then the 3D effect may create a double image
Also I've noticed the eyepad with the nose bridge included positions the device on your face for better focus.
Another issue is just getting used to a slightly screen door image. Also remenber these movies et al are largely in FHD not QHD and that is also hurting the experience.
If your phone is rooted you can also increase the DPI which may help with pixel size.
Part of enjoying this is your brain just getting used to it. I find that focusing tightly on what I'm looking at as opposed to generally staring in a direction helps focus. Its not that focus with the unit is poor so much as the 3D tech is imperfectly tuned for each person. Also I think we've come to expect 3D things to jump out at us; however thus is not the effect 3D has in real life. In real life 3D merely adds depth and that is what this does more than in your face hollywood 3D.
---------- Post added at 11:13 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:43 AM ----------
Try setting your DPI to 400.
Everyone saw this nice addition yet? Was really nice specially the Rosie and the New Zeeland sports 360 videos.
However after playing 5 videos in a row I got a message that my gear vr needs to cool down for optimal performance. Is this a Exynos issue in the im360VR app? Or does it happen to SD as well?
Note:
When experiencing this one make sure you discovered the possibility to turn through your gear vr-touchpad.
Makes it a lot easier and less turning head while watching the Rosie vid to watch who is talking or jumping off that aeroplane facing backwards trying to turn your head 180 degrees.
This functionality is only available in im360VR and not in Oculus 360 videos to me, is there a way to turn your "start position" there other than reorienting? Would be nice... maybe with some game pad?

These videos are terribly out of focus and barely watchable.
I don't think they are that bad, some of them are not well put together 360 because you can see the edges where the pictures are merged, if that's what you mean with out of focus.
But still nice addition with new experiences.
Not too many decent "real world/person" 360 experiences expect for cirque de soleil and evolution of verse is also really well done though it's also has animation.
All the other animated and games are better in many ways with less obvious pixeling effect. But it's a nice idea visiting real places through the vr 360. And this does that.
And as said nice functionality with choosing which direction to face using the gear vr touchpad.

I'm surprised you're comparing Felix&Paul / VRSE content with this. This is just spherical video, while the other is 3D spherical video, which is infinitely more complex to achieve.
There is a ton of spherical video available (there's a whole topic of links here), but the immersion is completely inferior to actual, properly stitched 3D spherical.
PS: Which part of Evolution of Verse do you reckon is not animation?
Yes that is true didn't mean to compare them as in that they are equal in any way, just the type of content I was thinking of, closer to real world experiences than say temple run. And it doesn't apply to Ev.o.v. now that I think about it. I guess all of it is animation but the start shows a view as if it was real and done nicely, it's not a gaming environment or cartoon environment if you know what I mean, more real. But the rest with pattern & colors in the sky and the train and ending it is really pure animation and not even meant to look real.
There is a ton out there yes but when it is added in Oculus store it is usually some kind of quality check and better than the average video you'll find which I find this was also.

Unfortunately that quality check guy fell into a coma when they released half of the Milk VR content heh.
You really should check airpano, quite a bit of their stuff is superb, if not for the 2d bit. Then also Fassbender stuff, the new beach one is quite a relaxing experience.
Then also rest of Felix & Paul stuff (you only mentioned Zarkana), and if you're the experimental type, hack yourself some JauntVR videos (all of them are live-action spherical 3D, just not as good as F&P at stitching).
Thanks for great tips will check.
Anyone know if the overheat is more common/happens faster on exynos since to me it happened in this regular 360 videos as well as in games like herobound after a while. Hopefully it is better in Android L.

Sure, VRSE video takes the cake on mine. I started a habit of taking the back out - makes it a little bit cooler and also easier to remove the battery one it hangs like a depressed banana. Guess we should start installing fans.
PS: If you quote someone they get an notification so that they know someone has responded to them.
Im running mine in power saving mode and never get overheating message. It doesnt affect performance of watching 360 videos untill they are in 4k resolution. With power saving enabled and 4k 360 video being played there are frames skipped while moving head around.
On the other note. Is there a way do move videos downloaded in Im360vr to memory card and still play them while using them with im360vr app? Maybe easier way is to reencode them to mp4 format readable by "regular" 360 videos app? Seems like im360vr videos are over 1 gigabyte in size.

Ok gonna try power saving, you enable CPU performance limit then, and nothing else?
Frames skipped is not optimal but until overheating is solved it'll do if it's only on 4k vids.
Yeah most of them are around or just over 1GB. Gonna try and see if it works moving them, could be that they need mod for it to work.
I'm also interested in vice versa, moving 360 to the im360VR folder to enable touchpad function but doubt it will work without mod/reencoding
Will check back when tried.

Try this experiment. Place a normal video in the 360 folder and watch it. You will see that you can actually pan as in a 360 video but the image is quite out of focus and zoomed in despite being completely clear viewed in Oculus Cinema. Now place a normal 360 video in your My Videos folder. Perfectly clear although odd looking.
Perhaps the focus problems in 360 videos is due to zooming?
Anyone else having issues of downloading these videos? I look at the download button and tap the headset and I get nothing!

Same here.
The only thing that works for me is the streaming from the office. (The lights are on today)
Did anyone experience changes in the content of im360VR ?
3-4 days ago there has been a huge variety of different scenes, maybe about 10-15 different videos to download and now there is only a few.
I am not sure whether i screwed up my content library, due to deleting some of the content with the note 4 standard filemanager app and not inside the im360's app.
Uninstalling and reinstalling the im360VR app didn't help.
Looks like immersive media changed the content...

I just read a post in the Oculus forum by Domen Lo saying to make sure you are using wi-fi.
I turned my wi-fi on and now I am able to download.

Hehe, yay.
This looks cool. Hard to tell exactly but looks like we can get this from Milk Store (still weirdest branding ever) from Feb 27th through March 1st. I'll be curious to see if they have solved the focus issues with 360 video. If so awesome.

It was announced today that Samsung and Lionsgate Studios have teamed up to bring a virtual reality experience to Gear VR, Samsung’s virtual reality headset, the experience is meant to promote Lionsgate’s upcoming film The Divergent Series: Insurgent. The tie-in is called Insurgent – Shatter Reality and it is a four minute fully immersive experience that is going to put users in Insurgent’s world.

What we really need is a first person shooter with team play and the graphics quality of Herobound. That would be amazing. Also figure out how to stop this overheating. Tried adjusting settings using Synapse as recommended for the AEL kernel but overheating just the same. Must have wrong settings. I used those recommended for Balanced. If anyone knows the correct settings I'd appreciate it.

Hi Mitchellvi,
I've seen that you constantly talk about how badly out-of-focus the 360 videos are. Quite honestly I don't see that problem on mine. The only thing I see on some scenes of the 360 videos are a few of the image seams that conform the 360 video image, but the video is very clear and detailed to me.
I too would like to see a 1st person shooter (with multiplayer) with HeroBound kind of graphics. But I think that unless Samsung/Oculus fixes the overheating issues, it would be near impossible.
I also tweaked my CPU and GPU speeds, underclocking and undervolting without any noticeable improvements. The only thing that seems to be working is to use the Note's Power Save Mode at the cost of some minor stuttering on some games and apps. So instead of say 20 minutes of use, I can almost double the time before it prompts to let it cool down.
Cheers!

If beauty were ever in the eye of the beholder, it is with the GVR. Because of the idiosyncrasies of how each individual's eyes focus at such a close distance (something nature never intended them to do), there really is no one right answer when it comes to what people experience. However, focus on 360 videos does seem to be an issue shared by many. I envy you that it is not for you.
You begin to understand the difficulty in designing a one-size-fits-all VR device. They are forced to design for the mean and thus insure than pretty much everyone will be slightly disappointed with one thing or another. Assuming VR remains with the "lense and screen" format (and corneal projection as in the Glyph does not replace it), I see the day coming where you will go to the optometrist to get a VR prescription and order custom lenses just for you.
I'm going to stop by the store today and see if I can find a small chill-pack which would fit inside the GVR cover (perhaps attached with velcro tape). That way it would not touch the phone creating condensation issues (hopefully) and it would keep things cool for gaming.
Worth a shot.
I also have a steel wool heat sync idea I've created a thread about.

Let us know how it goes.
Have you tried changing governors and such?
I will try using different governors and see if that helps.
Cheers ?

Steel wool is fail as there is not enough surface area contact to wick off heat. Chill packs succeeded but recommend fridged instead of frozen to prevent fogging.
