Feel free to add this to the FAQ, I'm only making a thread of this because I know alot of people have found themselves unable to enter the bootloader using the Down Vol + Power Button combo that is normally supposed to work.
For some odd reason, it seems as if the volume button in some cases is swapped in hardware functions as it relates to the use of the phone when no software is present to run it.
Hence, if your down volume button doesn't work, try using the camera button + power button to enter bootloader mode instead.
Even if you've just Task 29'ed your device only to find that you can't enter bootloader mode normally, that method should work.

I'll be darned, it does work! Thanks Poet' !!!
Otherwise, I had bad volume button issues (stopped working, ROM independent), that I solved by shoving the mini-usb power plug into the mini-usb slot really really hard for 20 seconds or so and wiggling it a bit while pressing against on the volume key on the other side.
I know it sounds strange, but it really worked. My keyboard issues also stopped after that. Theories?
WOW! My volume button is broken, and couldn't flash ROMs from microSD (didnt bother me tooo much), but it works again This is a god send! Thanks!

Thanks for the tip, but its physically phucked! Slight crack near the volume button, but only the volume button doesent work, sometimes it does work if pressure is applied to the case near the crack, but rarely Not too bad though, i can live with it, after all, we can change volume with the 6.5.X top bar as its not fidly, or even in 6.5 by disabling HTC notifications (which i hate anyway)
I did try ramming the mini usb power plug into it, different pressure while pushing it, moving it while it was inside etc, no such luck and i am a brute with this phone. I love how it can take a drop/punch/scratch. Built solid
a silly volume button doesent really decrease my fuctionality, or doesent do much to stop me changing volume! lol cant complain.

Glad to hear it!
It seems like I have to redo the fix technique about every 1-2 days, but it seems to always solve the problem. Very odd!

Dudes with volume key unresponsive problems:
See my post in the general forum about how to solve the volume key problem. At least for me, turns out that very slight *downward* pressure on the USB port solved the problem. Crazy, I know.
ask 4 a favor
Hi guys,
is there any possible i ask (maybe) the same problem?
maybe i had the same problem here. it wont enter to the bootloader. my phone just won't turn on, i already try to use the power button and volume button (not working), try to use power button + Cam button (won't work either). btw when i charge my X1, the illuminations light didn't show up, when i try to charge w/o the battery only red light on the power button, but once i put the battery again the lights turn off. is there any possible that my phone totally dead? thanks guys, appreciate for your help.

This same thing happened to mine. Sadly, a handful of roms later I am positive its the button itself. It works sometimes but not all the time. Having the option to set unlock to the volume rockers has been a lifesaver in CM.
Let us know what you find out.
using volume up is a temp fix, i did it also, had no other way, and using the tap tap app also works, what bothers me is, when phone shuts it self down, wich it does a lot all my android phones from stock have done that, the sporadically shut down thingie...how will i turn it on having no power button ?
I installed JellyBam recently and the power button was working fine...after a while the power button started working with some difficulty...now i cant lock or unlock and im using the volume wake up setting.
Can anyone tell me how to make the button work again?
I read many threads about similar problems but couldnt find the solution.
Thanks.
Are you sure it isnt related with the button phisically?
Im asking because i never heard of such problem.
Are you having phone earpiece problems?
Try another rom

Yes, when I plug in the headphones they keep on plugging out.
....
i have the same problem, but it's true for all roms that i try.....maybe it's just a hardware problem....
anyways, i suggest remapping the gesture key as the lock button....at least the only problems you'll only have is that you have to do this everytime you flash a rom and that this will not work as the power button; meaning if you shutdown your phone, the only way to turn it on is by connecting it to a power source...
..then again, you can just get it fixed at a shop......
hope i helped a little
Hello guys,
I tried to flash Viper Rom 2.1.0 but it stuck at 0% and I cannot find a way out. I tried Volume down + power buttons but the result didnt change.
Any suggestions to my urgent problem?
Longpress home + vol- and put it under a big light.
After, reflash the rom, but check the MD5 before and upgrade your recovery if this isn't the latest

Did you mean home shaped touch button? And I also did not understand what a big light is. I am sorry i am totally dumb on this topic. I already tried volume - and power buttons together but it didnt work.
Long press power and volume down button together under bright light will take you to bootloader. From there you can go to recovery and restore your backup or flash another Rom.

Thank you for yur answer but:
.
I will almost understand after discovering what the bright light is you mentioned. I already tried long pressing power and volume down buttons together but the only thing happened is the back and home touch buttons blinked together and nothing else. I keeped pressing maybe 5 mins but result was the same. Did i do something wrong or missing?

Had exactly the same problem. I long pressed just the power button, all the bottom lights flashed. Then the phone turned off. Just rebooted back to recovery, and flashed fine 2nd time.

Guys, does somebody knows how to make by myself that the phone could wake up with pushing on volume keys ?
Where those values could be ?
I don`t like the power buttom at all, it`s very weak

Umghh lol? I love the power button to be honest! Its quite nice! I don't personally know if its possible but you probably could do this in a custom ROM or there might be an app for that! Dude just get used to it! Its quite a nice button!
On the Z I used the .434 firmware the whole time until .244 came because it was superstable.
I had an unlocked BL and was rooted (and used the advance stock kernel).
I also did not have a lockscreen, and I could switch it on with both Volume up and down.
Don't know why though...
