Fingerprint Reader Error or Hardware Issue (Note 5 Noob Here) - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Bought a Note 5 for my wife and yesterday finally had the chance to set it up. Added the fingerprints to unlock the phone by touch BUT the phone will not wake with the fingerprint. If I press power first the phone can then be unlocked with the scanner, but not without pressing the button first. SO bizzare. I have the 6P and unlock without issue. Anyone experience the same or can offer any advice? Thanks!

[Q] Nexus One won't unlock after lock

I have a Nexus One with a weird problem. When i reboot it, it works fine, until i lock it with the lock button (screen goes out). After that i cant unlock it anymore, if i try only the buttons at the bottom come on. But if i wait a while (say, an hour or so) i can again unlock it.
Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this problem?
P.S. This may have happened after i bashed the phone into my table a couple of times for giving me trouble

Trouble unlocking screen

I just recently purchased a Nexus 6 project FI phone that was on sale and have been encountering a weird issue: whenever I lower the brightness down all the way and try to hit the power button to unlock, the lock screen flashes for a second and goes back to black and I'm not able to unlock it. What's weird is it still registers my touches because it vibrates as if I was swiping for my unlock pattern. The only solution to this is to keep hitting the power button quickly until the screen finally decides to turn on.
The build is LYV48h running 5.1.1 and rooted/unlocked
Has anyone run into this issue, and if so what can I do to fix it? My next plan is to factory reset it and see if that helps at all
Thanks for your help!

note 8 sxreen crash after reboot - possible issue with 9.0 beta

Hi guys
Just a quick one. Got a strange issue with the screen on my note 8 and just seeing if anyone has had the same issue or any idea on a fix.
Last week updated to the 9.0 beta and all seemed to be going well with no notable issues just a bit of lag here and there. However last night I turned my phone off and when I came to turn it back on this morning it started to boot as normal I entered my password successfully and it started to boot. As soon as the password registered and the unlocking pad lock appears it quickly shifts to the bottom right hand corner instead of the centre as normal. The phone continues to boot and from then on the screen just goes black and is unresponsive. The handset is on cause people can still ring, notifications still get received and all the hardware buttons make noise as if they are working. The screen will just not turn on. If I try doing a soft reboot with the power and volume down I can start the phone and the Samsung logo comes up as normal and the pin screen as normal but as soon as I enter my pin the same issue happens. If I hold the power button on its own to turn off the phone the multi menu (reboot, power off, emergency) all briefly appear but are enlarged and sitting on the right of the screen.
Any ideas guys, cheers.
Try reinstalling Oreo back onto it. It could be an issue with the Beta Version of Pie that you installed on your device.
The beta software is intended for this very purpose, you found a problem, then you report it to the releaser to be fixed, the creators of the software are the ones that will evaluate and improve the software, you see, it did not work for you, just try to reinstall it, if the issue persists, provide feedback to samsung, and flash a stable firmware
Possibly this bug Pie Beta + Secure Startup + WQHD = Black Screen?
It happened to me too. I installed over my existing UAE firmware with Indian one then the one ui update. After reboot got the same blank screen issue. I then did a factory reset and everything is back to normal for the last couple of days with improved battery life probably due to the reason that many region specific Samsung app like Samsung pay doesn't work.
So had a bit more of a play when I got chance and I managed to resolve the issue. Still being hit with the same problems for some reason I tried unlocking the phone again but sideways (don't ask not sure why) and the screen unlocked. From then on phone worked completely normal until next reboot. Same thing every time until I hold phone on its side and unlock with the fingerprint reader.
I've since reverted back to 8.0 and sent feedback over. I'm gonna try testing again weekend see if I have same luck.
Cheers for the replies guys, hope anyone else has this issue the comes across this.
you must disable secure start up
I had the same issue after updating to beta 1 with secure boot enabled. I wiped the phone and it started as it should, since I couldn't unlock the phone even with fingerprint. I noticed that the screen was only showing for few seconds the 1/4 of the image (unlock sim with PIN).

Enable PIN code on S10, phone goes dead?

Hope this isn't an omen or anything but I decided to try the fingerprint sensor and the phone requires you to set up any of the locks to do that so I picked the PIN code. Four digit number, entered it in twice, then the phone became unresponsive and went dead . Tried holding down the power button for a LONG time but nothing. Tried holding power and the Bixby button and nothing. About 2 or 3 minutes later it came back to life but no lock protection was saved. Just now re-did the PIN code and the fingerprint recognition and it *seems* to be working but that's still really troubling to have it go dead like that. Anyone else notice anything on theirs?
Could be just a random crash, nothing to worry about unless it starts to do it often, at that point it's off to warranty.
Also had a crash setting up the fingerprint sensor, although only when I first tried to use the sensor. Yikes

P20 Pro - Disable instant locking by power button

hi, please can someone advise a way I can disable the power key from instantly locking my phone? So it stays unlocked for at least few minutes if this is possible. Where can I view options for this?
Using the Huawei P20 Pro, model CLT-L09.
Thanks
Overwhelming response, thanks everyone.
I don't think there is a real solution for that because you would need to change the way the Lockscreen ist working.
Why would you want that anyways? The fingerprint reader is quick enough to not be bothered by the unlock time
I don't think that is possible and I don't think it makes sense for companies to implement a feature like this.
If I understand this correctly, what you want to achieve is when you press power button, you want your phone to stay unlocked for few minutes and after that get locked? If so, just set screen sleep time on 5-10 minutes.. What's the problem.
On my LG V20 (Android 8.0) there is an option for screen lock timeout. U can set how long the phone should wait to lock the phone after the screen time out. Also have option for pressing power button should lock the phone instantly or not. (check the attached pic). But to my surprise, can't seem to find that option in P20 Pro.
Personally I'm ok with power button instantly locking the phone. But for those who are quite annoyed with it, the best option is to turn-on the smart unlock and see what is best suitable way to keep your phone remaining unlock.

Click to collapse
My phone is already set to sleep 5 minutes after being inactive. So it should stay unlocked but the power key instantly locks it no matter how long it's been unlocked.
I used to have Samsung phones and on all of them I owned you were able to disable instantly locking your phone with the power key. I guess it's not built in via Huaweii, I ended up enabling facial recognition to save time.
Thank you and everyone for your replies much appreciated.
