I recently bought a "new" Z3C. It was Rev 1 as the box said, came with no bundled headphones, it shipped with 5.1.1, no SW update from me, and there was no initial setup on first boot, simply straight to the home screen
Have I been sold a refurb or a phone that has already been tampered with?
Both scenarios are possible. Check IMEI on some Sim-Lock sites where after putting Your IMEI You'll see what kind of phone You have. Many refubs has IMEI number from different phones so if You have IMEI from Z3c probably it's just used before.

Hi,
I bought a mobile while in the US. Later returning to India, I though of using it in GSM after reading posts in XDA. Removed the back cover and was shocked to see the labels were erased/tampered. The label inside the battery door is also erased. (See the attached images)
My Droid 4 that i got from ASURION due to original phone damage! I have the box from them there are 2 codes on the box!! Top one reads s300-1710-droid4. Next one below the 1st one reads: ESN(dec) 990000*******68. Was told it was a brand new phone! Don't know what has happened. Please tell me if these codes are Genuine! I am totally confused.
Is there any way to recover all those details that were in the original phone?
Having an IMEI with the below is OK?
990000*******68
I am going to use it outside US, to be exact in India. I like to see what my phones original IMEI, ESN, MEID etc are. Is there any other way to find the factory ones?
The about phone menu shows the same IMEI thats in the box.
Any help is really appreciated.
Thank you
If you got it from Asurion, I doubt it was new. I don't know this for sure, but my feeling is that you have a refurb with a (legally) reprogrammed number. Since most people will never take the back cover off, they either just scrapped off the old number and didn't bother putting a new one on, or (more likely) somebody forgot to put a new sticker over it.
I don't know of any way you could recover the original number (it should have been overwritten), nor any reason why you would want to.

So IMEI with 990000*******68 is okay? Will I be able to Update via the Verizon if my actual IMEI is erased and have a new one?
I tried Motorola online warranty check but my bad luck, it said my IMEI was wrong. Below is the link for checking the info.

If the phone works, the IMEI must be ok. I don't know how to check if it is valid, though.
Also, I wouldn't worry about software updates, I don't think it checks the IMEI during updates. That being said, if you plan on modifying the D4 to connect to GSM networks, you might not be able to update anyway.
Does the phone boot? If it does, go into the settings -> about -> status and punch in the IMEI number you see on the Motorola warranty check.

Ya it worked. It seems that the Droid 4 has IMEI starting with 990000
Mine is still in warranty.

Hi, ive found a guy on my clocal craigslist selling a damaged motox for cheap, from the pictures i can see it has no carrier brand so he says he bought it from moto's website unlocked...
my question is, is it possible to unlock the bootloader on this model? also what should be the model number on the bootloader just to make sure its not a Sprint one, since Sprint's model doesn't have a carrier logo.
phone has a broken digitizer but powers on, my idea is to buy it and build my frankeinstein using my working ATT one.
Look at the model designation on the back of the phone. Right on the bottom back of my Sprint phone it shows " MODEL : XT1056". I assume it will show other model numbers there.
If he can't tell you for certain, you're gambling.
Also, if it is broken, it could have many other issues. Again... A gamble.
I am attempting to confim if the original z3 compact I owned was Sim free or not. I no longer have this phone. To cut a long story short, I bought from a third party a Z3C allegedly sim free. The purchase receipt was included with the phone, which included all its original packaging. Unfortunately there was a problem with the phone which meant that I never completed the initial set up and therefore never got to the stage of inserting my SIM. I sent it back to Sony and they replaced it under warranty with a completely new phone. This one however was locked to EE (UK provider). I sent this back and it was replaced with yet another Z3C also locked to EE! My question is, Is it possible to determine from the original box whether the phone was locked? I'm pretty sure it was just from the price on the receipt but I would like some more ammunition in my dispute with Sony!

I'd visit an IMEI lookup website or twelve.
Check the place you bought it from, make sure to get a copy of what they say (email for example).
You should be able to email Sony support and ask about whether or not your phone is network unlocked using the Barcode, serial number or IMEI. All of these are on the original box.
Just visit the Sony Support website and ask them via email/ticket/whatever and provide all the information you can.
Best of luck
By the way, if all else fails a website like this one may be your only option.
Sure it's 30 EURO (probably cheaper options available I didn't actually look too hard at all) but seeing as you just bought an expensive phone, what's 30 EURO's on top of that?
Anyway, I'd recommend avoiding paying for anything unless you are completely out of options.
I was looking for unlocked phone on craigslist and I found this unlocked phone listed for $800. However, the seller immediately agreed for $650 without much negotiation. I checked the phone, everything looks original, IMEI checks out, came with box and all the accessories. Its not a Chinese close. But seller was not able to provide the receipt. He claimed he bought unlocked directly from Samsung but he couldn't even show the email.
It didn't click me back then but now that I look back, everything looked shady. Like he immediately dropped the price and sold me immediately etc. I did get photo of his drivers license and car license plate and he was happy to provide that.
Am I at risk of getting my phone blacklisted later on if this is stolen? I know if the phone is from Verizon or AT&T, they blacklist the stolen phone with IMEI in their data base. But how about the factory unlocked phone? Is there any way for me to find out if this phone is stolen?
1. Check model# on the box, is it SM-N960U or SM-N960U1?
If the phone's model say n960u1 but on the box model is n960u then he flashed unlocked firmware on a carrier model.
2. Check the IMEI on swappa it will tell you if you have factory unlocked phone(SM-N960U1) or a carrier model(SM-N960U), based on your imei. https://swappa.com/esn
I have a factory unlocked n960u1 and t-mobile doesn't know what phone I'm using because they don't have my phone's imei in their database. So if the phone is factory unlocked and report it stolen to his carrier, I don't think they can do anything because it's not carrier's phone. But if it's one of carrie's phone and report it lost or stolen then the imei will get blacklisted. So just check the imei find out exactly if it's n960u or n960u1.
Hope that helps.

So the other day I was looking through my settings and saw that it says sm-n920c as the model number. But, on the backside of my phone it says it's a 920t. I bought this phone off of Amazon as a certified refurb a few months ago. Any help or ideas on how to put it on the right settings/firmware? And I have ATT as my service and I haven't had an issue with service.. the n920t is Tmobile correct? Would I lose any SIM unlock if one is applied?

May be they swaped 920c motherboard so don't rely on what it says on back of your phone, but if imei matches with what's on your back of the phone then probably you will have a 920t model with a os of 920c modified probably. Check if imei is mentioned matches with your phone. If no imei is stated or matches then as said above they might have swaped the 920c motherboard on a 920t mobile.
I checked and the imei doesn't match. Solves that question lol thanks!
