it is supposed to be the stock firmware for the revolution which would allow you to flash your system back to stock.
I have scanned the file and there are 3 files contained inside. I have not been able to extract them however. There are 3 img files inside which tally some 700+ meg.

I have not found a way to extract the embedded files either. This is used with a Verizon only tool that is readily available. I wouldn't recommend flashing this unless you brick or destroy your phone (as a last result).

It's a program called: LGNPST. You can Google it and you will find a few download locations.
I looked everywhere to find out how to load this, can somebody with lg experience point me in the right direction. im coming from a droid x, i would just sbf to restore a phone; that was easy
LGPNST does not support this device yet that I know of.
Verizon has a tool as well but I don't think it works with TOT files.

Yeah, you have to have the proper DLL, and we haven't found it yet. Cubed said he'd have a stock ROM out here shortly.
After that, he plans to deodex and release a cleaned version of stock (debinged)

Hi,
this is the factory soft provided by LG to update VS910.
[LGDP2V42]only_VS910_20110430_download
but this soft need a protection dongle (need to be attached to PC) to run. LG Service Centers have this. It will be intersting if someone can find something useful from it.
I don't know if it works or not but...
http://www.mobile-files.com/forum/showthread.php/1384-How-load-TOT-file-with-LGNPST-LAB.1.2
So i guess in LGNPST, you just click browse, then put *.* in file name, hit enter, then select your .tot.
The problem isnt getting the software its the fact that unlike motorola the lg program requires a device specific .dll file so without that file the flash software and firmware are really of no use

Hello,
I did a factory (provider endorsed) update to 2.3.4 v20i and I cannot seem to root the phone. I have read the noob article for optimus black and tried:
- gingerbreak
- unlockroot
- superoneclick
So basically, with the exploits being closed off in the recent versions, there is no simple way to root this version?
Regards,
Len
If you want to keep your current v20i then there is no already made root method but you can inject cwm using dd on linux . But if you just want to install a custom rom , here is a root method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1480392
. And search before you post

Like the OP, I did the official LG update to 2.3.4 (v20i) and tried to use the method in the above link to root it and install a custom ROM. It didn't work because the Smartflash tool started the process and then stopped, saying 'Timeout error'. I searched the forums for a solution but no one else seemed to have the problem. I wasn't clear on why this was...maybe because they all rooted while on Froyo, or on a different V20 version.
Any help would be appreciated.
OK, I will reply to my own post as I ended up solving the problem
First, I am using a LG P970g on Canadian carrier Telus. It is known as the Optimus Black Skype Edition.
First, I downgraded my stock 2.3.4 ROM to a Froyo build (V10A EEU XXX) using SmartFlashTool. The ROM is in the link below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1448803
The previous .bin and .fls files I used were from a more recent ROM (March 2012) while the one in the above link is May 2011. Using this older one allowed me to downgrade using SFT without problems.
I then rooted using Gingerbreak, and used ROM Manager app from the app store to install CWM. Rebooted into CWM and installed the custom ROM I wanted from my SD Card.
Took me a long time to figure this out, but I did it. Very pleased.
Check my noob how to, there is a way, of how to root EVERY ROM in the 3rd post.

I have a question about that post. It seem to require that the firmware in the phone be dumped out in kdz format (which LG Extract is mentioned to work on). There was some mention in some posts that that could be done using LG-Utils. The only LG Utils I can find is LG-Utils-0.4.2.zip but it seems to be for KP500 (KP500-Utils-EN.exe) and KS360 (KS360-Utils-EN.exe). Is this the right LG Utils? If so which exe is to be used and what command and parameters needs to be entered to get the kdz file to be used with procedure you mentioned?
Thanks,
Len
Read the guide, there is even a link to that utility and you simply need to download your firmware in kdz format, from lg or any other server

Yes, I read that post and the guide and that entire thread. The reason that I found your suggested method attractive was because you mentioned:
"To flash and actually root the SW, you need to follow THIS guide, from Step 2 on, and it will be perfectly rooted and you can be sure, that noone patched anything else in your software, cause you made it on your own."
The post and thread suggests to download the kdz file from lg-phone-firmware.com where the domain is registered to some guy named Vitiello Luigi
in France. I guess the stuff from this site is safe but it is less reassuring than getting it directly off my phone.
Len
I downloaded the kdz file for my firmware from lg-phone-firmware.com and was able to go through the process of getting a rooted version on the phone fine. The only brief head scratching moment was with the clock work mod reboot recovery menu system where when you invoke the commands which require confirmation (like installing superuser.zip) where the confirmation options show a bunch of 'No's and you have to scroll down to get to the one entry that says 'Yes'.
Len

well I'm about to try rooting with some method or other. I too have the 20i telus ROM. I'm a tad perplexed. I've rooted many devices and for this one it seems rather convoluted. ...a bit daunting to say the least. In any event will try the suggested method in this thread and will report with results. This device is for the moment my main daiLy so if I lose network I'll be back to an old flip phone, and you don't need me to say how awful that would be... LOL

Thanks!. I used SFT on another LG, was easy as pie.
So, SFT will flash whatever you feed it to the device and wipe it (it's a nandroid)? BUT can flash ROMs only if they are in proper bin/fls format?
If so that makes sense. Little confused by all the options/non-options for rooting v20i/2.3.4, and I don't care to keep what version I have to get root. I just want to be able to use custom ROMs on my black.
Sorry for all the questions - I don't fully understand the LG roms/system yet.

I previously had the LS991ZV5 update but I wanted to update. I was rooted so I did the full unroot in SuperSU and when I reset my phone, it was stuck. I went to install a firmware version. I accidentally installed the US Cellular firmware. I have tried all the threads I know of. I tried to edit build.prop to "trick" LG Flash Tool into thinking it was a Sprint model(which it is but the firmware wasn't.), however I messed up and now am stuck on the LG logo. That's not how to unroot.
You have to restore the ZV5 image you backed up. You did make a backup right?
You can try to restore a ZV5 image (they are available for folks that didn't make one or lost it) or use the TOT process to restore it.
Look in the thread for TOT, Images, ZV5 ZV6 in developer forum. Everything you need is there.
Your phone should be recoverable.
Since you are still on ZV5 only use the ZV5 stuff until you successfully apply the ZV5 to ZV6 OTA Update.

Well, another device, another round of TOT files that I need to pull.
NOTE: As of posting there is no known way to flash this yet. I know others are working on this so will go ahead and post this.
That way when it's ready, this isn't holding it up.
By the way, any future releases will be mirrored on Rwilco12.com.

Hello, here "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=737594 " is a list of epst codes A.k.A ## codes.
I know some of theses work with the LG.. my favorite is the "##3282##" hopefully you can find the one you need in the forum there.
As for the flashing a rom from sd card .. in the stock recovery there is the option to "apply update from SD Card"
As a disclaimer i am not responsible for what happens to your phone for using the above info..use it at your own risk....i know i do!

Just released! http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/development/megalock-dll-lg-flash-tool-2-0-1-6-t3367222
YAY!!!!! now we just need the dll for our phone to get it to work right. and a way to properly extract the files out of the .tot file
Well I have good news. I got LGup to flash the your .tot file, Garwynn. a bit of a headache but it worked. I'll be posting my work here and a few other places. Here's how:
1. Install LG flash tool from ieatacid from here and make sure you can open it with no issues and see where you can choose the .dll for whatever phone you have (this isn't the program needed but the program needed needs a few of the dlls from it).
2. Install the LGbridge setup from here and let it update. Need this for the proper drivers. while it is installing DO NOT have phone plugged into USB port or it will warn ya.
3. install the LG up lab framework 1.11 and the LGH850_DLL file from here
4. Download and extract the LGUP.zip file from here
5. Install the .reg file and put the LS992 folder in the LG Electronics\LGUP\model folder which will be either in C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86) depending on whether you have a 32 or 64 bit windows installed
6. Put phone in download mode ( Phone off, vol up while plugging in usb from PC), start LGUP
7. Make sure you see a com # and phone model and at the bottom where it says BIN, select it, at which point you should see 3 dot on the right, select it and choose the .tot file listed above, then hit start and wait for the magic.
I give creds to autoprime for his good work, garwynn for the .tot file, and ieatacid for his LGFlashtool. and if I missed anyone, I am giving you credits and apologizing for not mentioning you
My show up unknown any advice thanks

You can downgrade from ZVF and ZVE without getting hard bricked - no worries. (No guarantee for future updates higher than ZVF).
If you use this to upgrade from ZVC or lower, you cannot go back down lower than ZVD or you will get hard bricked.
File works fine in LGUP. Don't ask me how to install or use it - there's plenty of that already on the forums.
Happy flashing!

Plus, I don't think it would give you the DLL anyways. I created the tot myself using software to pull the partitions from another phone and compile everything together
Is there a possibility of using this tot file to create a more updated MellowMallow installation? I think MellowMallow is currently based on the much older ZVB version.

I have no idea. You'd have to talk to the ROM dev. I doubt it though.
I'm sure a flashable ROM zip could be created, but that would require a custom recovery in order to be installed.
MellowMallow is in TOT form IIRC but the problem is that there's no root method for ZVD

So has anyone actually flashed this TOT to confirm it works? The structure seems different from prior TOTs and the entire extracted TOT (via WindowsLGFirmwareExtract) is smaller than even a compressed version of ZVB's system image. Either this TOT is missing too much critical data to be used for a full restore or it's incompatible with the only decompilation tools I can find. Either way, as it is, it's useless for creating custom (Mellowmallow-style) ROMs.
EDIT: Maybe the tools I was using weren't accounting properly for the different structure. I did a bit of tweaking with LGBinExtract and managed to pull out a full system.img. Still haven't actually flashed the TOT to downgrade my ZVF phone, though.

If you use this to upgrade from ZVC or lower, you cannot go back down lower than ZVD or you will get hard bricked.
