Today, my phone has been soft restarting without warning. It'll be going along happily, and then the Sprint splash screen will pop up, and ten it'll load the OS and all that nonsense. It's annoying. How do I begin to troubleshoot this? Full disclosure: I've got the systemless root and the Xposed framework. And I've got charging issues. It charges very slowly and doesn't like its original HTC charger anymore. I tried the recallibrate trick — hold down power, vol+, and vol- for 2 minutes — and it reset a bunch of my programs and settings, and created this soft reboot problem. So it's a mess. But can I fix this one thing at least?
It did it super frequently earlier. It's doing it less and less now, but has not stopped all together to my knowledge. Will it go away on its own? I'd feel better if I knew what to do if and when it comes back.

VERY long time no see folks!
It's been a little over a year if I remember correctly...
Anywho... I'm trying to revive an Xperia which had a very hard life. Ending with being ran over by my 2 and a half ton truck.
Yea.... it still works Now the phone I've been using since I ran over though... this pos couldn't survive the simple process of charging. The charging port has successfully broken off of the phone and will no longer accept a charge.
However, the screen on the Xperia is completely and totally screwed and I can't see anything. Ordering a screen isn't much of an option, reason one being I'd have to be without a phone until Thursday; and reason 2 being my Xperia has an issue realizing whether or not a SIM card is inside of it and isn't really usable as a mobile phone (but it works well as a stationary phone sitting in my house).
Now... I already have a program which willl let me actually see what the screen says, but it needs ActiveSync in order to work. Which... I can't install on the phone because it needs to be hard reset.
However, I can't remember the exact button presses to get it to hard reset, nor do I recall what comes after in order to get everything back running so that I can get to the phone's start screen.
Does anyone have pictures or a video of the full Xperia startup and hard reset processes? I tried scouring the internet but I couldn't find any.
well shut down the phone, remove battery for 5 sec, insert battery. hold the two soft keys (the ones under the screen) pressed with the mobile off and then holding on those two press the power button until the phone vibrates. when it vibrates release the power button bet keep pressing the other two. wait 10 sec with those 2 pressed then press r on your hardw keyboard wait 5 secs and press space on you hardw keyboard.
Hope it helped and i made any sense.
Hi all,
Putting up this post because I am at my wits end! I have had my Galaxy Tab S2 now for about a month. Just recently I would be using it and it would seem to start lagging a bit, and then without warning it would basically either power cycle, or just freeze and power off. Upon restarting, everything would go as per normal, and then after a few minutes it would happen again.
Went through the process of backing everything up so I could factory reset. This was a strange experience. The files would begin transferring to the backup media, and then the process would freeze, and the power cycle happen again. What made it strange was that if I kept touching the screen, the transfer would continue. Leave it to its own devices and it would freeze and power down or power cycle. Anyways, managed to get what I could off it. On to a factory reset.
Ensuring it was off, I pressed the power and volume up buttons, ending up with a screen with the android robot. Then it shows a screen with the android robot on its side and an exclamation mark above it. Finally to the recovery screen. Here things got a bit hinky too. I would use the volume up/down keys to move through the options available, and then found that the up/down buttons became unresponsive. Frustrated I touched the screen a couple of times and what do you know, the selected choice would move according to what volume button pressed. OK that's weird, and what do you know, after a while it reboots irregardless of choice.
Finally managed to get it to factory reset, wipe everything and on start launch into the setup procedure. "Yay" thought I, "Nay" thought the tablet. Now i'm stuck with a tablet that gets about halfway through the process, freezes, then reboots or powers off. Thing is, it ALWAYS seems to happen at a point in which keyboard interaction is required. I get about halfway through typing my name and snap.
So yeah I have no idea. I'm thinking it could have something to do with battery, however, this all still occurs even if it is plugged into a source. So before I go about trying to work out how to get the back off, I thought I would ask for some advice here!
Seriously, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers,
Chyr0n
Get a new one.

Yeah, it's new and is not rooted. Why not going thru warranty and get a new one?

Apologies if this is the wrong area for this or if up to date information is available, but I can't find any solutions anywhere.
My daughter has a pre-paid Virgin HTC Desire 510 that she has had for some time, but just started acting up today. Starting from off, it boots up and goes to the home screen fine. Then 35 seconds later (I've timed it several times) it shuts down. No matter what you are doing it goes black, just as if you pulled the battery. Then it boots up again automatically and continues the same cycle indefinitely until the battery is pulled.
I've been searching for the last 3 hours and have tried every remedy I've read, from checking the battery connections, wedging a small piece of paper there to force a better connection, and trying a new battery, to booting it without the sim card, without the sd card, and without both. Makes no difference, the phone is usable for 35 seconds, then power cycles. One interesting note on this though, if I try to manually shut down the phone, as soon as I press "shut down" or even "restart phone", it instantly shuts off the same as at the 35 second mark. Instant black screen with no proper shutdown sequence.
I (and she as well) have conceded to just wiping the phone entirely to attempt to fix the problem. Only that doesn't work either. I found that in order to do a factory reset, the "fast boot" option must be turned off in the power settings. Her's is not. In the 35 seconds I have to go into the menu, I can deactivate the setting, but it always hits that 35 second mark and turns off just after I do. After rebooting (either by letting the cycle occur, or pulling the battery and booting fresh) the "fast boot" section is still valid. In fact, I even went so far as to try to move icons around, change other settings, etc. to see if anything sticks after the boot cycle and nothing does. It seems the improper shut down that occurs prevents any previous changes from being saved. In turn, this prevents the phone from doing a factory reset.
Now, I've tried the factory reset several times and it always reboots with the same normal home screen, 35 second function, then power cycle. I've also tried recovery mode as well but it just stays on a black screen with a red triangle and "!" inside until battery pull.
This is about all the information I can dig up or provide without any further insight. I will say that I'm not that comfortable with my skill at attempting anything that requires downloading and transferring any kinds of files to the phone and installing them manually, as I'm not THAT savvy when it come to things like rooting phones, etc.. So if there are ANY solutions short of "rooting", "unlocking", "bootloader", etc that I just don't know much about, please let me know.
Thanks for any and all help, I will attempt any possible solutions I am able!
Hmmm....this sounds strange. The things you described could be from a bad kernel. But you haven't tried to root it yet so that rules out the bad kernel. I think that you should reinstall the whole system using an RUU. That is your best shot at this moment. If that also doesn't resolve your issue, your only option will be to root your phone and install a custom ROM. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask

Has she done anything to the phones files? (deleting stuff you shouldn't?).. RUU for Virgin Mobile - Run from a Windows computer. http://dl3.htc.com/application/RUU_A11_CHL_K44_DESIRE_SENSE60_Sprint_WWE_VM_1.49.652.3_Radio_1.47.40.0224_NV_SPCS_1.08_003_release_448617_signed_2.exe
Thanks for the responses. It seems like fixing this phone would be more trouble than it's worth for me, as it wasn't an expensive phone and I have no experience rooting phones, lol! I think she has money saved up and wants a new one anyways. Thanks for taking the time help out!
My GF was making a call with my Note5 and it popped up Process System isn't responding - OK, Wait - neither of which did anything. also it was vibrating every second or so, probably while trying to bring the system process back up and it crashing again.
Holding power didn't seem to turn it off but eventually it restarted to SAMSUNG screen, where it CONTINUES to vibrate every second and never progress.
Holding power does not shut it down.
What the heck do I do now!?
This is a relatively new phone but I bought it from some guy who I can't get back in contact with. It had been working fine for a week, rooted, running Dr Ketan rom.
edit: OK, after about 5 minutes of it vibrating at the SAMSUNG screen I tried holding power AND vol down, this (perhaps coincidentally) then rebooted it and it seemed to come up fine this time. It's a real pain not having a removable battery when something like this happens.
So last night I had a very strange issue.. I pulled my S8 out of my pocket and it was completely unresponsive. Held down power for ~30 seconds, volume down+power, volume up+power, and even plugged it in to the charger to see if there was any vibration of screen response. Nothing. I have not tried any kind of modding/flashing or anything that could possibly cause a software issue, and the phone was at 80% charge. The only thing I could think of is I was walking outside earlier that day in 75 degree weather with black pants on.. maybe the phone overheated? But if so, why could I not power the phone back on, even into recovery/safe mode?
I was able to get it back on by bixby+vol down+power, then hitting cancel when it asked me if I was sure I wanted to install a custom OS. Very strange. Should I just take this back to T-Mo and swap it out for a new one, or treat this as an unlucky random occurance? I'm still within the 14 day return period.
Thanks in advance!
it is possible to have random lockup, even radiation from space, if it hits right spot could change memory value or state of CPU (that's why critical servers have memory parity bit, to pick out random memory changes and flag them as error asap), but as far as your phone, no one can tell. If it happens more than once in a blue moon, it still could be either some software or hardware. You may have 14 days to return your phone, but if defective you should be covered for 1 yr under warranty? Usually hardware issues get worse with time until it becomes apparent there is a problem. But it is your call.

For now I will probably just hold on to it, don't want to go through the hassle of setting up another phone. It just seems strange that it locked up to the point where I couldn't even turn it on with a hardware reset.. Like you said, I hope it was just a random occurrence. I just don't want to get a refurb if I do need to trade it in under the warranty
Thanks for the info!
To get it to reboot if it ever happens again just boot into stock recovery then select reboot system now.... Bixby button, vol + and power if it doesnt go into anything and stays in that state try just power and vol - then bixby at same time it will go into download mode it will ask to continue press vol+ to cancel press vol- hit vol- and should reboot.... So there u have two options. Num one is going into stock recov and second is download mode and denying it. Also i think for just a plain old hard reset it should work with vol- and power at same time, although in your case seems u were having trouble. One last thing as a last ditch effort and u cannot reboot phone or some weird sh#t is happening put it in download mode and use smartswitch emergecy fw and reflash fw. Pretty easy straightforward just make sure drivers are installed and smartswitch supports the s8 yet

There are a few things you could try:
1. Fore close the app then reopen.
2. Redo the voice in google
3. Reboot phone (last resort)
I agree with the other guys. When you have trouble with google just hanging there it's more likely a connection to the internet issue. Good luck!
