Can anyone tell me what's going on with my XDA2i pls. It's been very stable for the past 6 months which is the last time I Sprite backuped. But last week the camera disappeared and Windows media player appeared on the camera button. So I thought I would re-install the ROM then restore from the June Sprite backup - remember I have been using the camera which must have been on that backup.
After the ROM install, the camera is there and working, but if I try to then do a restore from the Sprite backup, the camera is removed.
Thanks
Mike
search it at here, im sure you'll find any camera software to install....
if you need something great camera application, try CoolCamera at www.ateksoft.com
you can do it! Mike!
thanks
Thanks Clustered .... I will definitely try that camera app, - does it improve the quality of the images (I find them much worse than the supposedly poorer camera in my old XDA 2)
I have since discovered that the camera app is not being removed (there are still 4 camera related files in the Windows directory), but all reference to these are being removed somehow, so that the camera program is not visible in the 'Programs' section, nor is it associated with the camera button on soft boot.
I have temporarily got round the problem by placing the camera.exe icon in the SPB Today function, so at least I can get it started with the stylus
Any clues .... should I be looking at some registry entries.
By the way .... ironically I would like to reprogram the default for the camera button to scroll-down which I use in microsoft reader. Do you know how I could do this (tried Vito button mapper yonks ago but it seemed to cause quite a few problems)
Thanks
Mike
I had this, do you find the battery is discharging at a quicker rate??
The history with mine was it lost the cam function swapping to WMP on the button. Only way to cure it was to hard reset.... of course it would go and do the cam fail just when i had got everything set up and running nice for a few months. I found as it went further down the line that using the back up i had would instigate the cam error quicker than if i didnt.
It started to do it more and more. So i sent it back, they said all fixed. of course it wasnt 'cos the internal battery had discharged thus doing a hard reset clearing the error
Finaly on the 3rd return they did a board swap... which meant i had to get tomtom to re do the activation codes for me.
Load of hastle but it hasnt been a problem in 3 months now.
Aaargh ! yes that's exactly what's happening - battery running down quickly, so I just ordered a coupla new ones (fortunately didn't pay the O2 price of £39 and have ordered from Hong Kong at about a fiver).
Sounds like it isn't worth me returning it to O2, as a board swap would cost a lot - it's 13 months old now
Interestingly though ..... a hard reset puts it right, but as soon as I restore data and programs from a Sprite backup, the problem is back. And yet the Sprite backup was done back in June when I definitely wasn't having this problem. And an earlier backup does not cause it. Does it seem possible that one of the applications we are using has a time -related problem? Only thing I can think of recently was the British summer time auto correction.
Thanks
Mike
dont worry bout it being 13months old they got 2 yr warranty!!!! get it down to them now. you will get it sent off, if they dont replace the board, call the number for the repair company as soon as you get it back, tell them its doing the same (as you can tell from my post before the prob clears n they just turn it round) they send you a package and you send it off as a bouncer, give then a fault report, they will swap the board.
make a note of all yer device info, imea, mac address etc. to confirm the board has been replaced.
i put a pen mark on the warranty void sticker under the battery covering the screw to see if they went inside.... they didnt the first times it went back.
if you have tomtom you will need to scan n send them a copy of the board change document to get your codes reset, also send them the device code tomtom gives you when you try to run it. they require that. it took them about 5 days to sort out at tomtom
You know what gets me about this place is i could have just said send it back but i prefer to give folks as much explination... like i would in return.... unlike i have had on posts ive made where folks have said post it in the right section etc.... not telling me where or assuming you understand all about reg editors or rom changes..... following link from page to page is so frustrating... sorry rant over now
hope you get it sorted soon.,... wish i could get my Q's answered.
Thanks mate .... I'll do all that. Fortunately I can afford the time, as I've got a couple of working XDAII that two of our guys ditched in favour of execs, so I'll just set one of those up until they sort the XDAIIi
Thanks
Again
Mike
Me too
Hi Guys
You have described exactly what happened to me. I use a Motorola BT head set (820 I think) and the tom tom navigator 3 with BT satelite reciever.
I gave up in the end. It seemed to be due to the BT stack or somthing to do with the Tom Tom BT drivers. I have 2 xdaIIi's and I now use one as a gps only (does not even have a sim card) and the other one as a phone (with the Motorola head set) I dont have any problems.
If I try to use two BT items together..... with in about one week the moment i loose the camera and the battery lasts about 6 hours from full.
If I remember correctly the head set would stop working or lock up the phone, you then have to do a soft reset then the camera goes etc etc.
I can tell you I am absolutley fed up with BT I am yet to come across a BT anything that works first time every time. Even if it does work today, tomorrow who knows if it will work. The reason i am looking athe postings is because my new £400 Garmin Nuvi 660 wont connect to the XDA!!**!^%$!£"
Any way best ot luck, you are going to need it.
Hmmmmm .... don't think it's bluetooth, as I don't ever have it switched on - I prefer to use the bog standard handsfree speaker kit and don't use GPS/TomTom.
Plenty of things lock up the phone though :-(
I've gone back to my XDA II and ya know what .... I prefer it. The quality of colour saturation on the screen is much better - OK it's not quite as bright as the XDA IIi but the latter is not really any good itrself on a bright day.
.... and the camera in the II is just a gem - OK only 640k but the way it renders the image is just like silk compared to the naff camera in the IIi
... and I'm not really gonna miss the wifi, and I never really bothered using IE in landscape.
So I think I'll stick with the old II and see what you guys think of the Orbit (?) when it comes along
Mike
Well.... great service (eventually) from O2. They sent me a replacement without even waiting for the faulty XDA2i. Bad news is they sent an XDA2s ....but they then sent an XDA2i the next day. It's not brand new but presumably it's been 'reconditioned'.
Charged it up, did a hard reset - camera was there OK. Did a Sprite restore from a known good time (last June). But camera had disappeared again
I guess it's remotely possible that they have sent me the one that Richard (?)returned but I think he said they'd definitely done a board swap on his.
Despite the good advice on here, I'm still inclined to thhink this may be a software conflict problem rather than a hardware issue. And somehow it seems to be connected with time. I had not installed anything new when I suddenly lost the camera about 3 weeks ago. I'm restoring from a Sprite backup that definitely was not displaying any problems when I made it.
Regards
Mike
my cam issue would come back if i used a restore from a good point too. But that was on the old board. Ive just done a full clean install of everything and its seems to be ok. I did wonder is some gimp out there had writen some kind of virus that i had got somehow.
It might be the startup programs/services...
Try checking the Camera_Detect.lnk if it's functioning normally...
Although I'm really not sure if it is the cause but I have a similar problem but not with the camera...
Rather, it's the rotatescreen icon...
I hard reset and the icon is there but when I have installed programs it disappears once I soft reset... not sure which of the programs installed overrides the icon startup...
But I think it's during the startup that somehow make these services (camera, screen rotate, etc.) fail to run because some of the programs might be clashing with them on startups/bootups/soft reset...
I think you might be correct, as the replacemnt XDA2i that O2 sent displayed exactly the same problem when I put all my stuff back on it, but after another hard reset I put just a limited range of utilities back on, and so far in a week or so, it has been faultless
Mike
Hi all...
I've not really posted before so, first of all, "Hi!! " *waves maniacally*
While I know there is no best rom and they're all different, I was wondering if anyone knew of a rom that didn't need the Touchscreen??
The reason I ask is that recently the touchscreen on my X1 has been having random fits of deciding it no longer works... i thought it could help to re-flash a new rom, but when it started back again it comes to the screen alignment setup page (forgot about this) and i'm stumped, since the touchscreen won't work right now...
Know it might be a random question, and probably unlikely, but any suggestions would be great!!
probably not...
but seeing as your x1 seems to be, well, broken, you should really get it repaired, before it just goes completely kaput!
Hi,
If you leave in Holland i can fix your telephone you only need to order the part, and bring it with your telephone and i will repair it for free! Did this before with different sony ericsson phones so got some knowledge of it.
Greets,
wouter
your ribbon cable has probably worn away ( a common problem)
My touchscreen didnt wanna work when the keyboard was out for some reason lol. I sent it for repairs and they fixed it in under 48 hours. Quite impressed i was.
same reason! ribbon cable was worn away. happened to me too, unfortunealt took SE a couple of weeks (due to a postal strike perhaps)
See... that's the weird thing... I thought it was a physical hardware thing, but after loading the new rom, eaxch time i turn the phone on, there's a screen before the align screen setup that says "tap to setup windows", and when i tap that, it progresses to the next screen... It's like it's sort of working but it depends on the screen it's on??
Thanks for the kind offers, but living in ireland myself, so might just tackle it myself as a home-repair... if i can pinpoint the problem...
Happy St. Patrick's Day zac! Let's get hammmerrrrrrrrrrred!!
OK I have been using my N1 for almost 2yrs now. I love it, but out of nowhere the connections on bluetooth, wifi, 3G, and occasionally cellular drop. Coincidentally it happened when 2.3.6 was released and I refused (updated since no change) the update. When I use my bluetooth headset I'm told I sound like I am underwater. I installed CM7 thinking that would solve it (maybe it's a stock ROM issue) but it was still the same. I can put my phone next to the router and still show (1bar) a poor connection .
OK so what can I do to fix this? I don't want to purchase a new phone (besides this glitch it looks mint) right now. Also I don't really have the cash for it either. Someone said the antenna may be loose (don't know how that would happen) and I could open it up and fix it.
Now you all Mod software but has anyone actually opened up an N1 and is there really a way to tighten the antenna? Please let me know if anyone else has had this issue or is there a way to test for a solution.
Thanks
A little more info
Was just on a cell call and noticed that the green cellular indicator turned white (no idea if that's related) it is back to green now and full. However this seems to be a pattern of being green 3G and Cell strength to white. Hope that provides so more info to someone trying to help me.
Green/white is an indication of connection to Google servers, nothing else.
Radio is only responsible for 3G data, bluetooth and WiFi are completely different entities and aren't related to radio. If you're experiencing bad reception - most probably your antenna contacts need cleaning or are misplaced, open the lower cover (not the battery one) and look there (this cover IS the antenna - just don't know which one).
Special tools?

OK found a teardown on youtube of the Nexus one so I understand the antenna is on the bottom. However it looks like they used a special tool to open the case on the bottom. Where would I get that? Also considering I paid for it outright (yep unsubsidized direct from Google); even if I'm out of warranty would you recommend (if this is something more complicated) I send it to HTC for repair? Someone else said the Broadcom chip may have gone bad if both the wifi and bluetooth seem to stop working or have poor reception. Not sure if that seems correct since if it went bad I would think it wouldn't work at all but before I make tool marks trying to take it apart I figured I'd ask.
I'm not sure the repair will be worth it, financially.
If you want to open the lower part of the case - you may only need a small flat screwdriver and good hands, to avoid scratching the surface.
Something else now
OK now voice dial command isn't working when I hold the bluetooth button. Maybe indeed it is the chip. I was able to take off the plastic cover but I need to get a T5 screw driver (lol for some reason smallest I have is T6) so I will get one tomorrow and see how it goes. There is one more cover to remove and put back on. Financially since I paid full price I'm not sure why it's not worth fixing? I figured HTC would charge around $100 for a repair. Which is less than going price for a new (i.e. Galaxy Nexus II) phone . Also I haven't seen any new phones with a trackball (which I love for the notifications and when I need precise movement) so I really don't want a new phone till they add something like an optical trackball or improve precision on finger location. Also I might get lucky if the credit card I purchased it on will cover a repair (they double warranties) and I still have a few months left.
Nope!

OK got the required tools and took it apart (both covers on the bottom) and then re-assembled it back, making sure I seated the vibrator motor back carefully. Turned on the wifi and still have same issue. So guess my phone is broke further than I can repair it. Thanks for your advice but unless there is software to check that chip it looks like only option is HTC.
Yes, looks like it might be damaged beyond the home repairs capability.
Financially - If I were you, instead of spending $100 on Nexus One repair, I'd sell it for parts for $70 or so, added the $100 you wanted to spend on the repair, and bought a used MT4G in good condition. You'll lose colored trackball (and get a trackpad - which, if you use Sense ROMs that this phone runs perfectly, will be absolutely useless), but gain WAY better phone, in just about every aspect you can think of. The same applies to any phone you can get for cheap from "outdated" MSM8x55 family - Desire HD/Desire Z/G2/Desire S (some of them aren't compatible with T-Mobile frequencies, put attention). I know this from first hand experience, since until recently I had 3 of them - Nexus One, MT4G, and Desire S for my wife. Guess which phone did I get rid of?
But - just in case you'll want to follow this advice and settle specifically on MT4G - make sure you read MT4G forums thoroughly before you do. There are 2 weak points for MT4G - the screen (more important) and the eMMC chip (less important, but still counts). Both can come in 2 variations, better and worse. Make sure you choose the better.
Hello Everyone,
I have been unable to find this information anywhere so I thought if anyone knows this would be a good spot for it. So a quick back story, my turbo took a dip in a hot tub for about 5 minutes. I put it in rice as quick as I could (about an hour) long story short it was completely dead unresponsive. I ended up doing a bunch of research and buying an ultrasonic cleaner, taking it apart and cleaning it soaking in 99% isopropyl. I did that several times and each time more functionality returned. At this point everything works perfectly other than wifi and bluetooth (presumably on the same chip). They are both permanently grayed out and cannot be turned on. I would like to know where physically the problem is before attempting anything further.
So can anyone point out the wifi, bluetooth and antenna for each on these pictures? I tried to post in pictures but it seems I cannot because I am a new user. I think you can copy and paste these into browser though or maybe someone else can post one in for reference. The first image is the back of the screen as well as the little cover that goes over the battery. The second is the motherboard.

Oh and while Im at it does anyone think there could be a software issue resulting from water damage like would I need to reflash some drivers or something?
All help is greatly appreciated!
Im going to try contacting motorola and ill update post if I have any luck
You should try flashing the software using rsd and doing a factory reset! Doubt Motorola will be of any help cuz u void the warranty when u take open ur phone and I don't think water damage comes under warranty!
Are you sure there is reason to believe this could be software related? I just finished rooting and getting everything set up, itd be a shame to start over.
Motorola was no help of course said its top secret. Is there no one out there with the electrical engineering or phone repair background to tell where the chip is from those pictures?
Nobody will know from those pictures - all of the IC's are hidden under the metal shields. Your best bet is to check out the FCC filing pictures of the phone, there should be some with the shields removed. If you can read any of the #'s start googling them.
Or find someone else who has taken high-res pictures with the shields removed, chances are they are out there.
Hey there!
Recently I bought a Pixel 4 XL and I am loving it. However when it arrived, the 2X camera wouldn't work, and portrait mode neither. Luckily after disabling an app to get my SIM working on this AT&T Pixel, the 2X camera started working back. The problem is that today it stopped working again, and repeating the process of disabling the app didn't solve any problem. I know for sure the camera isn't broken as I took photos with it recently and I want to know how to get this working again.
Thanks in advance
I would force stop camera and gallery and wipe data on those two as well and reboot and see if anything was different. If not I would remove my accounts from the phone then factory reset.. Delete everything and maybe even do it two times just for the hell of it. I would use stock recovery and do this selecting "factory reset" with volumes keys and power button then reboot system afterwards. If nothing changed I'd sell it and I'd be honest online and explain my story and all. I'd pay the difference on a Google factory unlocked model Coral so that when I had any issues down the road I would be bootloader unlocked and I could then fastbood stock images and everything would be fine and dandy. I would also blast whoever sold me the AT&T 4XL that had a carrier encrypted bootloader lock on it on all social media networks, Ebay, Amazon and Swappa. Maybe then pee in a large bottle, like a 2 liter empty bottle and pop the top back on and keep going until it's full capacity screwing the lid on afterwards every time and leaving it some place where it could get maxium sunlight and decent heat like in a field by my house outside. Then I'd investigate them and try and find out anything and everything about them. All y'all need is a name and head over to Facebook and start searching and reading... When MY 2 LITER bottle wasfull I would GPS their address at some odd hour and try and figure out what vehicle belongs to them.. You could run vin and or license plates to see and make sure you have the correct vehicle. You definitely don't want to do this to an innocent person. Then once iz sure I had the proper vehicle I would dump the entire urine bottle in their vent where the defrost is, on outside of their front window where the dashboard is and walk away tossing the 2 liter either in the dumpster nearby or possibly in a trash bag and in a fire once I got home.
I had this done to me once by some punk neighbor in sone apartments I stayed in about twenty yrs ago and me and my gf had to sell her new high dollar sports car because regardless of what we did to do to eliminate the odor it didn't work. It was a goner, a TOTAL LOSS!!! Smelled like a truck stop urinal in the middle of nowhere that hasn't been cleaned in twenty years. I'm totally kidding. I wouldn't do this. Not at age 42. Now back in my teens and or twenties, idk, but not now. I would make sure it was known best I could. Write a few reviews on seller online. Shoot me the address I'll write one up for him to help you out.
While I'm not going to do such craziness this would be sufficient revenge I believe for selling me a carrier locked fairly new expensive Pixel and not telling me. The ole urine in the vent ruin the car maneuver. A one time thing that would cover almost anything anyone did wrong to you in about a minutes time max. Hopefully this made you laugh op and also anyone else who may read it. That is why I'm commenting it. Please don't ban me mods. Again I'm totally kidding. I'm too old for things like this now. Haha!!!I'd sure write reviews about him though online. Hook him up with some fantastic reviews from serval made up characters about how he lied and did this to me.
Hey,
fisrt sorry for tanking so long to answer. I did that but nothing. Sometimes both rear cameras stopp working and the only fix is factory reset, which only brings back the main camera, telephoto still doesn't work.
Yeah it wasn't great that he sold me a locked bootloader, but I mean I can live that and I pay really cheap, 170$ and phone is in perfect shape. Here in Europe the same phone is well over 350$, so I wasn't going to pay all that much for a 2 year old phone. Also I am researching a way to unlock it and I am confident. When I succed I may post a guide here on how to unlock.
However the seller was very kind, when I talk to him about the camera not working, as I know how to fix phones, I said to him if he could refound about 14$ to buy a new camera module. And surely after 5 minutes he refound 15$ to me, so I bought a new camera module and waiting for it to arrive.
Also very funny the history lol .
Hello all,
So I finally mange to find the issue.
As i didn't want to return the phone, I talk with the seller and he sent me 15$ to buy a new camera module and I would change them myself.
To open the phone is easy, at least for me. I saw a few videos online and followed the ifixit guide.
The funny part starts now, when I was going to disconnect the camera module(which have 2 conectors, 1 per camera) I found something interesting. One of the cables wasn't conected to the motherboard.
So when I connect it and test the phone, the camera started to work as it should.
I still don't know how this happened, the phone was never open before (I know because there is adhesive on some conectors, so if you remove them, when you glue them back they aren't perfect).
It would also be very strange for that to disconnect by it's own, because the cable is secure in place by a shield which don't allow the cable to move(or at least, that is what it should do).
Anyway, the problem now is fix. So if one of your cameras don't work, or work sometimes and them stop working, you should consider opening the phone and check the camera conector, It may have disconnected from the socket.
i got this problem too, portrait mode & zoom not working.

thanks for the reply, but I have been fixed it by disconnect the camera module and connect it again
