DISASTER - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was charging my N6 today (using official charger/cable) and it has burnt out the charging port. A nasty smell of burning and the usb cable has melted and I can't charge the phone anymore (when I try to use another cable, it just starts to overheat the cable again). tHE PHONE IS ABOUT 12 MONTHS OLD AND I'VE HAD IT SINCE NEW

Try a wireless charger

No, if it was bought from Google and you were using the official charger, contact Google for a replacement:
https://support.google.com/store/answer/6178715?rd=1
I see you're in Wales, so you can quote the UK Sale of Goods Act if necessary - "fit for purpose". And we have up to six years if the fault is inherent in the design. But when I contacted Google about my N5 after 18 months, they replaced it without a quibble - in my case at least good customer service and a sense of corporate responsibility.

[Q] Charging plug broken

Last july, I took my Milestone on a hike and fell on it, breaking the glass. I sent it for repairs and got it back after a nice 120$ bill.
When it came back, the charging plug was loose, but still worked well. Considering this was my only phone (I'm in an appartement without landline), only MP3, acted as my agenda, adress book and GPS, and that I knew that sending it back in would take another 4-6 weeks, I decided to keep it anyways. It was still charging, right?
Well it progressively got looser, and now it won't charge unless it's in the dock, at a certain angle forward, and the 1-year guarantee ended 3 weeks ago... So it's useless as a GPS, and I have to mess with it for a minute everytime I plug it in to make sure it's at the right angle...
Besides sending it back to Motorola, waiting 6 weeks and paying 120$ (again), does anyone else have found a solution to this issue? Is this a part that can be bought myself and replaced by someone skilled?
Thanks!
PS: Here in Quebec, the Consumer Protection Law states that a product should be covered for a reasonable time period... I'm thinking of putting pressure on them by saying that a reasonable time period would be the length of the contract with the carrier, and so that they should repair/replace it under guarantee. Opinions on that?
Buy a battery charger off eBay, they are cheap

I'm talking about the charging port. The microUSB on the phone itself.
He knows, thats still what I would do. You also need a microUSB reader or use wifi to transfer stuff.
If its loose, then it may be just a torn wire, not my forte in small electronics.
If its 120, buy another one. You can get one off ebay cheap, or get one for parts.
Well, the phone just completely died, and won't power on at all-no matter what's the battery I used. I guess that won't be necessary now, lol.
Well, you should take it to repair, maybe you battery has died and some one need to weak-up it.
IMHO is better then buying another one.
I would do what the second poster was sayin and by a battery charger put it to good use again.

N910t "Unable to charge" message

Ok, I have been dealing with this issue and trouble shooting every which way but loose. I am getting this message every time I try to charge my phone. "Unable to charge your device, make sure you are using a samsung-compatable battery and charger, and that your device is properly connected to the charger." The device is almost 2 years old so it is out of warranty, I called samsung and sent it in at my own expense and they marked it "BER" (Beyond Economical repair) because I had rooted it, I didn't install my own rom I just simply tripped Knox so samsung refused to work on it. Very disappointing. I have now set out to fix it on my own.
OEM Battery: Check
OEM Charger: Check
Properly Plugged in: Check
I have tried multiple different fixes, factory reset didn't work, so I flashed Cyanogen 12.1, Rapture, and Dr. Keton ROMs to see if it was a software issue, NOPE. (P.S. Rapture is my favorite)
So I ordered a wireless charger so see if it was the charger port, NOPE.
Then I ordered a external battery charger and 2 other batteries so I could at least play around with it. SO I have determined it is not the Charger port, Software, or Bad Battery.
2 weeks Prior to this problem occurring the bluetooth flat out quit working. So I am now considering getting a new motherboard but this requires a lot of work I would rather not do if there are any other suggestion at this point I would love to hear them before I pull the trigger and buy a 150$ motherboard, If it honestly comes to that I might just sell the phone for parts, I bought an s7, but I loved my note 4. I would prefer to go back to it cause I like the battery life on the note 4 but LOVE the camera on the s7. Any way, Any Ideals would be fantastic, thanks.
I had an international note 3 that used to say that. I think you may have to use a power source for which that perticular phone was designed for.... just an idea... If i recall i could slowly charge it using a car charger but not a wall charger. I dont know why though i sold it on craigslist before i found the answer.
I also had a similar problem with a regular domestic note 3. Turns out my baby stuck my phone in her mouth and her spit corroded the terminals. So the phone just wouldnt charge. Was a pretty easy fix for like 10 bucks for a whole new charging port. Did you maybe drop your phone and dislocate the flex cable from your board? http://youtu.be/OYBWT1yfilc
Doesnt seem toooo difficult to fix but if it were me id just swap out batteries

[PROBLEM] Charging slowly (only USB charging) and PC can't recognized it

I have problem with my Nexus 6 (no warranty) from last two months. Phone is rooted and on 7.0 (from yesterday)
One night I noticed my phone says it is charging over USB when connected to the quick charger so it is charging very slowly (more than 8 hours from 0-100%).
I was using the Qualcomm quick charger and USB Magnetic adapter when it start to do only USB charge. I tried different "regular" chargers and multiple USB cords. All yield the same results. So it seems to be some faulty hardware but I don't know which part.
Also i noticed that PC has stopped recognize it when it's connected - it only show USB charging. I don't have option to set connection to MTP (alternative I found it in developer options - same result)
Already tried:
-different chargers
-different usb cables
-factory reset on marshmallow
-downloaded Nougat on phone and flashed to Nougat rom
I have friend who repair phones, gave it to him - he changed microusb connector - same problem...
I mean phone is working but I really depend on battery. I use it everyday for navigation and my company use Android application for work.
Any ideas?
I have some money to buy another phone but I don't want to change my beloved Nexus - I can't find an alternative phone to replace this beast.
Even i'm suffering from the same problem. (Out of warranty)
I sent it to 2 different repair centers of Motorola in India.
1 changed the port and still the problem persisted.
The other one was a more advanced service center. They took the phone for around 2 months and then they told me there is some hardware problem and it would cost around 60% of the device cost to repair the problem.
On asking the problem, they just kept telling there is some Hardware problem which they couldn't explain but they knew this would repair the device.
Now I'm a student. Somehow i bought a Nexus 6 that too when its prices were at peak (Rs. 48999) with my parents help.
I use it as my only primary gear. Now it takes around 7 hours to fully charge if kept on Airplane mode and that too without using it.
Its just a waste i am keeping because i cannot afford the repair and even cannot but a new Phone.
Choosing Motorola sucked! (I still trust Google and love it)
I saw TK using Nexus 6. I was much excited. I saw all his videos. It was fun but now even he has dumped the device.
Now i just keep on trying my luck on Giveaways by XDA expecting to get a device.
(I was too excited when they had a Pixel Giveaway by Rhinoshield but unfortunately i didn't win)
All my hope is XDA Giveaways coz i can only trust them.
If you find any solution to this problem please do reply here or mail me.
It would be of great help.

That magnetic Micro USB Adapter fried your N6 charging port. This happened to my N6. It exactly what you have described. Fortunately, I have warranty and Motolora sent a replacement unit. It beyond repair. The replacement units was fried again when I used the magnetic POS. So got another replacement. Stay away from that magnetic POS. The seller gave me a full refund without even asked me to return that magnetic POS.

Fulminant Screen Problem

A couple of days ago, my Mi 5 just started with funny lines, and after 3 minutes it just became unreadable.
It was very strange because it didn't feel down or got any hit.
After searching about other phones, everybody says that it is hardware problem and I must replace the screen, which I already bought it and I'm waiting for it.
Could this happened due to some software configuration?
Other user (@gowtham300) also said that the display could have burned out be due to the charger. I was charging the phone directly from an USB output of a Belkin Surge protector as the one attached... Could it be because of it???
Thank you for the support.
The best way to charge a phone is by its original charger and cable.

Other thread ok the plausible reasons are this
Mi5 metal is not very hard if you had a case that was very tight or one that digs in the corners it might be a reason for display wire dislocating
2- before the heat up did you feel the display heat up
3- another reason for this is 3000ma charging. Although quick charging 3 standard is 3000ma it's not a good value USB type c standard dictates only 2400mah and mi5 connectors or ports are not of the highest quality this leads to charger USB c cable ruining without any damage all of a sudden the cable wouldn't allow fast charge besides that the display cable is near the USB port on mi5 so when it heats up the display cable which is near also gets hot which might damage the cable resulting in this as to fix this issue miui included a charging fix since August 2017 mi5 will only charge at 2500ma till 20% or so then at 2200ma till 55% or so then 1900ma till 75% so on and so forth they limited charging speed in a way that won't prolong the charge time 1.5 hour for full charge. It is possible that maybe because of all this issues Samsung never used qc3 on their flagships HTC limited qc3 since beginning even on HTC 10 and 11 the market 40%, pixel 2 xl and use their own charging standards one plus also does the same

Please check your charging cables

As per the title, please check your charging cable and do not leave unattended.
Recently my wife's oneplus 5 was on charge, thankfully in the same room as we were in, when all of a sudden we could smell a plastic burning smell and saw the cable at the usb type c end with a small flame and melting.
I immediately turned off the socket but couldn't removes the cable from the phone due to the heat of it. Thankfully the phone was ok.
I contacted OnePlus immediately where i was told it would be brought to the senior engineers attention. Next day i got an email that a new cable was being sent out but no mention of the serious implications that could have happened or any notice of investigation or notification to other owners which is very poor on OnePlus's part. I couldn't care less about getting a new cable it's about the potential implications to my family and someone else's family.
This is what has prompted me to advise you here to be very cautious whilst charging. This incident occurred with the original cable and charger for the OP5, so please be careful. Do not leave unattended or charging while asleep.
almost exactly 1 month ago, 4 days after you posted this, my house burnt down when I was out for 1 hour.
I suspected it came from the charger and cable that I left plugged in unattended, as my housemate's room was less damaged, while my room is completely gone. Fire must've started in mine, and I'm almost sure it's the charger.
so everyone, please be careful. I wouldn't wish what happened to me to anyone.
stay safe
