[Sm-T715 MM] Cannot use fingerprint sensor to unlock anymore - Galaxy Tab S2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, i'm here to show you my problem. I've update to Marshmallow today and now i'm on Android 6.0.1, firmware version T715XXU2BPD6. Everything works just fine but i have a problem with the fingerprint sensor. In fact, with lollipop (5.0.2) i used it for unlocking my tablet, now it forces me to use a password, sign or PIN instead of using ONLY fingerprint (which was really fast and secure for me). Now i'm asking: Does anyone has the same problem? Can i still use ONLY fingerprint sensor (and so i'm an idiot because i'm not capable of solving this) even with the latest android version? I hope someone can help

It's just a new security measure which happens only once after each reboot.

I don't think so. Actually i can only use the fingerprint sensor if i unlock the screen using a flip cover. If i unlock it by power button or home button it ask for a pin. And i've rebooted, closed and so on.

Strange this is not my case. I tried to unlock the screen by power button and it requires my fingerprint only.

I don't know what to tell you...the only thing that i know it's that everything described above never happened with Lollipop.

Did you wipe or not? Usually not wiping during updates works fine, but bugs can occur do to old settings sticking around or old files ect.

Hi, i didn't wipe because it was an OTA update, so it didn't ask for a full wipe. Maybe i should've done it after the installation

Dumb question, ate you using the power button to lock the screen or using an app? Apps force unlock via pin on marshmallow.

I just had the same problem on my newly upgraded t710, wiping the fingerprint lock and redoing it seems to have solved my problem, the fingerprint scanner procedure is slightly different on 6.0.1

6.0.1 fingerprint lock-out
Hi
This is a variation of the problem cited by the OP.
When 6.0.1 was rolled out it came with a warning to make sure you have your password ... famous last words.
Galax Tab S2 SM-T710
I accidentally allowed the update to 6.0.1 a few months back but did not have the password because I never used it after day 1, always used fingerprint. So after the upgrade, when it says I can't use fingerprint enter password, I am stumped. Samsung or Android seem to think that a password that has not been used more than once 6 months ago is more secure than my fingerprint that is used several times a day. Can't figure out why, really.
I called Samsung, they won't roll it back.
I have seen the video that says tap build number 7 times to get to developer mode, that does not work. USB hack etc.
I have created another user but cannot access original users space. Only 3 Gb left most of it used by original log on - now locked out.
Device not registered on Samsung find my phone and Android device mngr won't apply a new password, because there already is one. I can ring it, locate it dho, its in my hand, I can lock it, dho it is locked already, that's the problem.
Who the **** at android or samsung decided to invalidate my chosen security measure, fingerprint, lock me out of my device and why???! Has there been a spate of pickpockets stealing phones and cutting off peoples fingers to unlock the phone?
So if I do not want to to do a hard reset and lose the original users data, is there a work around?
I have never rooted a device so be gentle with me. ; > )
security version mdfv2.0 r6.
vpn v1.4 r 6.1
patch level 2 april 2016
I guess if I could reset or overide the password I'd then be able to set upmy new fingerprint. The new user,me, can use fingerprint. Go figure.
Many thanks

Remove the "Swipe to Unlock" screen?

So, I just got this phone today and I quite enjoy it. However, one thing is bugging me like crazy because I use WidgetLocker, and that's the lock screen. Is there any way to disable it so it just goes straight to WidgetLocker?

That basically removes any lock screen functionality at all, tested on my I537 with the MF1 build so I can't speak of the MF2/MF3 builds in that respect but I'd hazard to guess it's the same.
Never mind

Thanks for the hint....I had hated that D&^%* lock screen since I live alone and no one else uses my phone. BTW, I have MF3 and it works there too.:good:

Uhmmm... you want a lock screen that doesn't lock?
You can't have a lock screen without it actually providing some level of actually locking the screen.
I want the PIN, but I wanted to use WidgetLocker as the lockscreen.
So, like when I press the power button, it opens up the WidgetLocker interface, and when I swipe to unlock it, it brings me up to the screen where I enter my PIN.
I'll try uploading pics in a bit to see if I can explain it better.

That's the default behaviour of WidgetLocker - it layers on top of the lock screen. Just do as the others have mentioned and set your lock screen in the settings to PIN, then install and activate widget locker and it will work exactly like you just mentioned.

I think I figured it out. WidgetLocker gave me a prompt when I booted it up the other day via SuperSU accessing it for root permissions. Either it must of not come up last time I booted it or I was trying to do it while I was unrooted... But the problem is solved.

Lock Options (Lock and Trick)

Hi Guys,
Got an intention for having an extra feature in Android !!
I am not an expert developer, so wanted to let you guys decide if its good or bad
In Android we have different types of lockscreen(security) options, if we can have another option which would show as: Lock and Trick ; as in the image attachment.
View attachment 2904833
Assumptions: you use PIN/password to lock/unlock
what this would do is:
whenever you choose this option and lock the screen, and if next time someone tries to enter in the passcode/password it would check the password as it checks and would inform that one of the digits that he/she entered is right (trick), and he/she should try the other 3 digits.
We can have an option were we can select any digit to trick the person meaning for eg., I would configure it such that it would show up that "the 3rd and 4th digit is right please try the other two" and the person would actually be tricked. Provided we would need some maths in senerios where the digits are actually right !!
Lastly, can we also have the same thing for pattern ??:good:

 sorry that's a useless feature
It would be much better if you had to enter the current time displayed on your phone. How many of you wondered what time is it and then unlocked your phone to go text or look something up forgetting completely to look at the time?

Hi ,
I am not taking about any security controls/new-methods !! YES i am suggesting a useless feature which can save your phone some time if its stolen.
Its not for security, it should be used to trick people believing that they know some digits of your password !!
Anyways thanks !!
Does anyone know how to get the gesture unlock security not the pattern one?
isn't gesture unlock a generic rom feature liquid smooth has it as I'm using it

I think the best lock option is a pin code. Slide pattern can be discovered

Fingerprint scanner issues.

When I got this phone my fingerprint scanner worked 100 percent of the time. Now it seems it doesn't work all the time. It will work after first try and sometimes it takes multiple tries. Do you guys think my scanner is defective or there any tips and tricks for it too work consistently. I currently have 4 prints registered for the index finger.
Make sure your fingers aren't wet/dirty(not saying you're unclean), and the same for the sensor.
You have 4 prints registered for just your index finger? Call me crazy, but maybe it can't differentiate/decide which one is trying to unlock it? I use one registration per fingerprint, and have 2 fingerprints registered (one per hand). Your fingerprints *can* can change over time btw (no the lines don't move lol) - great for instance, when I do a lot of manual labor without gloves it wears my fingerprints down (off essentially) in some areas so they can't be read easily or at all. It takes a few days, maybe a few weeks to come back.
I had one fingerprint registered and it seemed to get worse. My question too you does I work close to 100% of the time for you? Do you have to push down on your fingerprint for it to register? Or a light touch works all the time for you?
Can using Samsung theme cause issues with the fingerprint sensor?
It normally takes me 4-6 tries for it to work. Gestures are just as bad.
Well I have new note coming my way. I filed a claim with premium care. The only thing is that now that I removed the Samsung theme it seems to be working great again. So if anyone is having issues try and remove theme and see if it improves. I guess I will cancel the return and keep my phone.

I'd say it works correctly at least 90-95% of the time when I need to use it, just a light touch works fine for me. Edit: I'll note, I do have a dragon skin for the back + camera, and it made it easier to locate blindly before I was used to the placement.
I do have my headset at work paired as a trusted device so I don't have to unlock it at the office and the remaining locked use is split 50/50 with the iris scanner. I have the iris scanner set to the standard (higher) security mode, and find the FPS to be quicker.

Are you using a Samsung theme?
Stock out of the box with a pic I took as BG wallpaper - haven't changed/customized themes, just added shortcuts and widgets. Hope that answers your Q.
Noticed that with me, if my finger goes flat it has a hard time...but if my finger is a bit off center and leaning to one side...it works 99%+

My fingerprint scanner works fine all the time, I registered my right index 2 times
I'm not saying that it can't be related, but does anyone have any idea as to why on earth a theme would have anything to do with the fingerprint sensor???
I have noticed that after the latest OS Update that I had to erase and re-register my fingerprints again. To unlock my phone with the fingerprint scanner. As I had problems unlocking my Note 8 using my fingerprint. Has this happened to anybody?

No, that shouldn't cause any issues with the fingerprint sensor as it operates on a completely different piece of software.

How to get device encryption?

How can I get full device encryption on the p20 pro?
Not even the private space is encrypted i believe?
nobody knows? :/
Howdy!
I believe Android already have built-in capability to encrypt your phone/data. There are quite a few easy to follow examples on the net. Just try googling some. I just can't post any links yet.
Now, I'm definitely not an expert on Android platform. I'm very new to the system myself. So I would love to know about it more.
I have heard that Nine Folders is also good, but don't quote me on that. Will let you know if I get more info about it.
I know this thread is a little old but if anyone is still interested you can access the built in android encryption stuff using nova launcher.
Add a widget with the activities shortcut.

So I went ahead and tried this. After you press that encrypt phone it prompts you for pin. After that another screen with encrypt phone button that does nothing when pressed
The phone is definitely not encrypted. Done the alarm test - phone turns itself on when powered off in time to ring the alarm. This is not possible on an encrypted phone with pin.

The phone, or better, the data partition is encrypted, when you set pin or a pattern.
Otherwise we would not become crazy with twrp nowadays.

Is there still sensitive data that is unencrypted and at risk, say if it gets stolen etc?
Genuine question, from my googling it seems to not be obvious. When you get to the "Encrypt Phone" menu in Android Settings it prompts you to encrypt the phone (like it isn't already), but when pressed nothing happens.
---------- Post added at 07:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:50 PM ----------
The same "Encrypt Phone" massage that comes up (stock Android prompt as far as I know) says that after you encrypt phone the alarm will not work when phone is powered off.
Tried it and the phone wakes and alarm goes off when phone is shut down.
All sensitive data are in data partition and it's encrypted. Many android settings are messed up in emui, but device will be encrypted if you set a pin or sequence.
If alarm works, good to know

You can also just use activity launcher which is only a few KB and does the same job.
Now with this out there I launched the device encryption activity and put my lockscreen pin in and get to the encrypt phone button and after pressing it the back arrow at the top of my screen stops functioning, the phone doesn't start encrypting or anything and I can exit to the previous screen via the return gestures.
Any tips?

Notification Bar Bug: Keeps going semi- transparent

Please I need help if possible.
I've had my Samsung S10 for a month, and it's been great but i've a new problem and I can't seem to figure out why it is happening. See the picture below.
The notification bar keeps turning semi-transparent/blurred. Why is this happening, i've uninstalled up, it's the same on Nova Launcher & TouchWiz.
It's not clear why this is happening. I've reset wallpapers etc, but can't fix it.
When I reboot the phone it disappears, but either within a few mins or hours it reappears and seriously devalues the home screen.
Please help. How can i rectify this?
Any help is much appreciated.

have you tried to use the default theme?
do you use good lock, if so- what good lock apps do you use?
I made lock screen notification background 100% transparent, that helped.
hi
thx to both you.
I've somehow fixed it and used partly your ideas.
I removed apps one by one and rebooted countless times, but no lucks.
Also then changed settins and rebooted many times.
I changed some notificaition settings too, and rebooted.
However, I've no idea what it is that helped to sort it out.
I know there are others with this problem, I think it is do with Good Lock and Edge Lighting+, i've not readded Good Lock.
Thx to all, if anyone else has this problem then post here and I'll try to help you.
:fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed: Again thx to those who replied to my request above.
Darn!
I think i spoke too soon! The problem reoccurred a day later
So having done also soft reboots, I don't believe it's the apps.
BUT what is the cause of that problem I can't fathom.
So sadly I have done a full factory reset! which is poor.
Hopefully that's the full end of it.
If anyone does figure out the reason for why this occurs, please post it here for all. thx
Hey.
I might have found the solution for that, without restarting the phone.
Got the S10+ few weeks ago and had the same issue with the status/notification bar going semi-trans (blurry).
I have fingerprint and pattern set as unlock options. The status bar goes fully transparent again when unlocking the phone with the pattern.
Now, still not sure what's causing this 'issue' but at least the solution was found (and it's not to restart the phone).
Hope this is going to work for you as well.
Cheers
Had the same issue, sent it to service so they could fix this...not sure if it's a phone problem or software, but I tried everything. Don't use Good Lock, nor any dubious third party apps. At one point, the screen started to flicker on lock screen, quite peculiar. But the blur effect really bugged me, sometimes it appeared in a couple of minutes, hours or even days, randomly. Is Samsung aware of this issue?
iggyp44 - Hi, thx for that, but I found the only solution was to do a hard reset, which I sadly did. Never reappeared since then.
Axys72 - I've sent a message on this to Samsung, that's all i know if they are aware or care.
Seems like a few of us have had this problem, so hopefully they will work on it to sort it out.
Only solution for me was a hard reset.
I've had the same issue... My suspection for what causing it: when I using galaxy buds and receive a massage via fb massenger... So far I noticed that twice, but I'm not sure if this really is the cause... Looking forward for solution, it's driving me somewhat crazy ?
Gregor
Turn off the fingerprint unlock animation. That's what's causing it.

Turn off the fingerprint unlock animation. That's the cause
S10+ notification turns green
Since 1 week when I pull down my phone notification bar the overlay use to be in black but now it have turned greenish.
I tried settings reset and also hard reset it's the same
Rest the entire phone works fine
Can anybody suggest what could be an issue
