Marshmallow and Usb - Galaxy Tab S2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After updating to the latest version, I've noticed that when you plug-in a USB device, Samsung has changed the procedure.
It used to ask you each time which app to open, unless you chose always.
Now the option is not there. When you choose the app, this one is set as the default one. Is there a way to bypass that?

teamviewer for android

Ok so I just got an email that team viewer released a beta version for android. Sorry can't post the link not enough posts. My problem is that it is a direct download through the browser. When I go to install my phone will not allow me to install because it wasn't downloaded through the app market. Is there anyway around this besides rooting my phone. I have a stock phone. The teamviewer page says this
"Installation notes
You can download and install the App using your Android web browser. Due to this direct download and installation you will have to enable the following option in Android once: Settings - Application settings - Unknown sources (enable)
I cannot find this setting. I am pretty sure that I will have to root my phone to do it I just wanted conformation. Thanks in advace for your help.

hi i dont know about the samsung devices, but on htc devices its no problem. i forgot to set the setting too. but when i try to install, there was a popup coming up with a options button, to actiavt it.
but in the normal settings menu its settings-applications- check unknown sources
i tried it out, its pretty smooth. i like it
you can download the apk from their website onto pc, then install via sideload

On the desktop versions you can. Not sure about this beta though. Been waiting FOREVER for this though. I use TeamViewer almost exclusively, but I've been using LogMeIn cause they have an Android client. But screw them now!
Oh and btw jd1peters, AT&T has disabled that option from our phones. If you want to enable sideloading, search the forums for enabling non-market apps.
No need to root. Just download the apk and install with android sideload wonder machine.

@ OP, you're awesome for bringing this up. Been waiting for this forever 8)
edit: anybody else getting the error" connection failed because your partner's Teamviewer is too old. Version 6 or higher is required to connect." There isn't even a version 6 on the desktop client.
second edit: looks like they have the v6 beta for computer clients on their website.

Yeah, you can control your desktop from your phone. IMO Teamview is one of the fastest and easiest ways to connect two computers together, all you need is the client software installed. So much less of a headache than going through and setting up the numerous VNC programs available.
As a quick note, one really important setting on the Android side is whether to optimize for speed or quality. I think it defaults to automatic, but depending what you're trying to do, you may want to set it to be one way or the other to improve performance.

[Q] missing "Map it" option in "find my phone" service

I have just got a HD7. In the setting section, under the find my way category, I have a problem.
first, the phone says that find my way is not available.
Second. The option that allows me to let the phone save my locations for faster whatever does not exist. i.e. instead of two options in find my phone setting, I just have one. the other is missing.
third, in the windows live website, there is no sign of the "Map it" option that it should be there. other features like lock and ring work perfectly fine through SMS, NOT push notification.
although this is not a big deal, but I wonder what can be the reason. I live in turkey. can that be for it that the map it option is not available in turkey, or maybe HTC has decided to protect our privacy better by removing the save my location option. anybody has any idea?

I have the same problem, anyone can solve this?
Set your number in the settings, then it should work. Or try to change your locale settings (WL and phone)
On my device it's also missing.
When I logged into the website windowsphone.com suddenly on the phone instead of those two checkboxes with options, I've got only now :
"Ring, lock or erase your phone......" and slider setting "On/Off".
How to bring the maps on?

[Q] "package loader" doesn't allow "Install" option after update to 904

[Q] "package loader" doesn't allow "Install" option after update to 904
First of all, I've searched the forums and looked at the various topics it shows when I typed in the title for this post - definitely not a nube, I've flashed, bricked, unbricked, bricked, unbricked my phone 3 or 4 times, but this one has me stumped! Bare with me, I'm Danish, but I speak pretty good English... Mods - if this isn't where it should be, please publicly admonish me and put it where it should go.
Curious one: after I flashed my phone to 904, I now can't update anything "sideloaded" from Amazon or Slide-Me because the "package loader" (APK installer) refuses to let the "Install" button work. "Cancel" works just fine, of course.
(and yes, I know - now there's a 905 out there - but first things first, I've tried even after installing a 'virgin' 902 using Moto-Fastboot, but I got an assert failure on MTD:Boot)
I re-rooted my phone after flashing using "Motofail", which gave me access to all my backups and even though my ClockwordMod backup said the MD5 has didn't match I used Titanium Backup to try to extract files from it - and found that the MD5 doesn't match because there is no MD5 file there at all.
I was able to use the various options in Titanium Backup to replace all my apps, but at this point every time I try to install anything that's not from Google's Play Store I get to the point where the installer asks be to "Install" or "Cancel" and the install button appears available (not greyed out), but it doesn't work.
Has anybody else seen this? Can you tell me how you get around it, or what I need to do to fix it (other than trying to flash 905)??
One more thing: this new "Screen locked" button keeps showing up on my screen that was never there before - and it doesn't always ask me to swipe my pattern if that button is there. I've got Launcher Pro installed, JuiceDefender Ultimate and an alternative swipe screen, which I've already check, double-checked and triple-checked the configuration files for what might be causing the "Screen Locked" button to appear.
Update: the "No Install button working" problem just went away after two days - I didn't do a thing (that I know about). Weird - I've had this happen once before. Anyone have a guess as to the security lock bypass where it won't require my pattern to unlock, just a tap on the "Click to unlock" button? I have my security set to require a password any time the screen is turned off, so - that's my first guess, but setting it to "One minute" (same as the screen timer) does nothing, so I changed it back. I really do NOT like the idea of it just letting anyone pick it up and bypass my security lock! I know most people prefer it the other way (stay unlocked for a certain period of time without requiring you to keep putting you lock code/pattern in), but if I turn the screen off, I want it to prompt me for my pattern lock every time.
Found my own answer...
OK, not to the one about why "Package Installer" refused to work for a few days, but why I'm not getting the screen lock every time I turn my screen off any more:
It's "JuiceDefender Ultimate" - you need to set 's' ("Screen off") = 'l' ("Lock") time in the sliders under the "Timeout" settings on the Controls tab, and have your main settings set to lock on "screen off" instead of timed. The 'h' ("Home") setting in that same slider seems to have no effect on my device - anybody else observe differently? One things that always disappears when you flash is JuiceDefender's settings, even if you backup and later restore from /SDCARD or /SDCARD-EXT partitions. I don't know why - I suppose the subject for another question at some time in the future.
By the way, running the latest flash-only on device overclock to 1.2GHz (well, you do have to have Rummy's Toolbox so you can drop to Terminal mode and futz with the file) is the BOMB!!! Bio-***** is screaming along at 1.2GHz whenever I need the power. I'm in like (again)...
For the curious - it's right here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1594804

[Q] Emulator

Well, my HTC screen is Crack, and its gonna be awhile till i get a new replacement. But i would like to access the settings to enable the 'Internet Sharing' as i could use it for my tablet at least. Any idea if there is an emulator that enables me to connect the phone? I tried google, but it shows emu for the wp8 os itself, not connections between phone and pc.
Nothing that will let you change stuff like that. You could in theory sideload an app that launches the relevant Settings screen, then launch it using the Visual Studio debugger (though that requires being able to unlock the phone, at the least), but that wouldn't actually put you in a position to toggle the option on the Settings screen. There's no way to control the phone remotely from your PC beyond the stuff that fascilitates sideloading, app debugging, file sync, and changing the phone name. Well, and Find My Phone, but that won't help here.
Dang it, guess stuck with this. oh well. thanks you.

Zuk Z1 - Sound profile app and ability to set bedside mode (like a BlackBerry)

Hello,
I'm quite new to this forum and I've recently bought a ZUK Z1.
I had BlackBerry devices (BB10 ones) for long time and going back to Android is a sort of excitement and little disappointment as well from one side.
I've installed Cyanogenmod 13 on my ZUK Z1, but I can't find any way to proper set Sound Profiles like I was used to do with my BlackBerry.
- Normal (calls/notification... etc)
- Phone Calls only (no notifications except calls)
- Silent (no sounds in general)
Plus, I badly miss the 'Bedside mode', where the phone disables mobile network and wifi, all notifications (led/sounds etc) and shows a big black screen with only the clock.
I had a check in the forum and around the web and I found that Sound Profiles seems probably what could solve the first need.
About the second one, there are few apps that are able to display the clock... but that's it - no ability to change the sound profile settings.
So, I was trying to set a profile called "Night" in Sound Profiles to at least be able to get the same setup, using the "enable airplane mode" feature, and have this profile set to launch one of these big clocks apps afterwards.
What I've noticed is that Marshmallow doesn't seem to allow apps to set automatically 'airplane mode'. I'm a bit lost about the reasons, but it seems that I need to have this Xposed installed.
Now, my questions.
1) It seems that the current default procedure to install Xposed Installer and run the Framework install does not work and we need to use this procedure
2) On that guide, the link for Xposed arm v78 sdk 22 is broken, and in the original link I find multiple zips and I'm not sure which one is the correct one I should use.
3) Do I need Gravitybox for my specific purpose of having Sound Profiles able to set this airport mode?
4) Do I really need to do all of this to simply achieve my goals?
Sorry for the long questionnaire but I do really appreciate your help in this
Thanks!

Just to help others that might face the same... here some answers to my questions
Yes, the instructions in "Sound Profiles" app need to be ignored and follow that thread.
The file to install via TWRP (or any other recovery mode) for ZUK Z1 with Marshmallow is xposed-vXX-sdk23-arm.zip. My understanding is that the architecture of this phone is ARM, and the Marshmallow sdk is the 23.
Then I've installed XposedInstaller_XXXX_.apk (latest available) and I can see that all seems installed.
Last bit, is downloading and installing the module that allows apps to access Airplane mode. Found the apk on here. I've used the most recent.
Once all is installed, I opened Xposed Installer, got into 'Modules' an ENABLED "Airplane Mode Helper". This must be enabled in the modules' list AND within its own options.
A nice reboot and all seems working
About Gravitybox, I had a look to this video and I've realised that I don't need this. This is an app for who has stock roms. Mine is the Cyanogenmod (v 13) and it's already heavily customisable.
There is still the pending question... is this the right/best app to use to achieve my goals? Until further suggestions, I believe it is
