how to add default storage option to any custom rom.
i am using lenovo k3 note and on that using SUN V3.8 rom which gives an option for default storage as internal or external and with the settings to external storage i am able to install as many apps i want. but in other roms where this option is not available after installing more apps it start saying internal memory low. and even if i shift apps to sd card it doesnt change much. in sun v 3.8 i am only required to set default storage to sd card rest all is looked after by rom itself and it never says internal memory full.
can i add this feature to any other custom rom.

Ok, abhayjaat597, and the answer of your question is no, in other rom theres no option to set the extermal memory as default, well only in some roms, coz your u have 16 gb of stirage, and WoW you fill it all your internal with apps? Really?
If you have files like pics, videos and documents use your file explorer, root explorer or the app you have it(i hope you have one in you enormus menus of apps) move the files and make a back up of all, or just send it to your pc, laptop, tablet or whatever you have it.
I hope be usefull for you ^.^

Is there a way to change where the ICS Camera saves its images to, preferably to the external SD card? There's no option in the camera itself. Is there a hack?
There is. Change Storage from "Phone" to "Memory card" in Camera Settings.

I'm referring to the stock ICS camera that comes with an AOSP rom, not the Samsung supplied camera. If there's a setting in the stock ICS camera, I'm not seeing it.
I have an AOSP ROM and I can't find the default storage for the camera. I know that the images goes to my Internal Memory but when I removed my SD Card, the camera won't work because it cant detect my SD Card.
Update:
After posting my answer to your query, I check my camera app again and somehow I got the asnwer. Change your mode to Video. Then the settings for the storage is in it. I choose mine from SD Card to Internal. However you still need the SD Card for it to work. The system requires an SD Card first inorder to function.

Yes you are right that there is no option in Camera Setting of Android 4.0 ICS. Answers in many forums about this problem are wrong that " Go to settings and change storage location" .... this can not be achieved in ICS 4.0.
But solution exist. Just delete DCIM Folder from internal storage and remove SD Card from mobile. Go to camera and take the snap.... this time it will store in internal storage bcz there is no SD Card. In the 2nd step .... switch your mobile off and insert SD Card into mobile. Switch on your mobile and now take the snap. This time Android OS will take this newly installed memory (SD Card)as its default location. Check this trick....
Hey, what's up? I bought my new Galaxy Note yesterday, and there are some things I don't understand. One of the first apps I installed was App2SD. The Note didn't came with an SD (today I bought one), but something appeared as SD Card. When in I entered to the app, I saw something very interesting. It said that the System storage was 2GB (??!?) and the SD (it didn't had any SD) was 11GB. Today I installed the SD (real) and the app still the SD was 11GB!!! I downloaded MI file explorer, to see better the storage and install some apps I moved to the SD, and when I entered to SD tab, there were folders of Camera, Downloads.. but I couldn't find any of my apps. Then I find the folder "external_sd" and I opened it. Yes, all the apks I moved to the SD were there. So, I thought , lets see the storage tab in Task manager menu. There appeared 3 things: the SD card (8gb), the system storage (2gb) and the USB storage (11gb). So, I realized that all downloads and photos were saving in the USB storage (that is part of the System storage I think). I could change where does the photos save, but no the downloads and apps. They are still saving in that USB storage. And something it was very strange: when I move to SD some apps (Zen Bound 2, 200MB) it appears in the SD but really small (200MB to 20MB) So, the questions are:
1. Can I change that the apps don't install in that USB storage?
2. Can I turn off that USB storage?
3. Why when I enter in Settings and I move an app to the SD, in app2sd appears like it was moved to the USB storage? Or it moved to the real SD?
4. Why the size of the apps change?
Thanks really

Ok, that was a lot to read Ok, as far as Galaxy Note's Memory management is considered, the partition is as:
A. 2GB (1.97GB Precisely) : Acts as ROM
B. 11GB (11.07GB Precisely) : Acts as Internal SD Card
C. X GB (the memory card which you insert) : Acts as External SD Card
So, In A there are built in apps which comes with the ROM you flash.
In B There are apps which you install. The install Location is defined to be in B in your phone by default.
In C You can move the apps using some app such as App2SD or Android Assistant (which I prefer)
If you are concerned with big apps clogging your memory, read ahead:
You can allow your application to install on the device's external storage.
Some types of applications should not allow installation on the external storage.
Installing on the external storage is ideal for large applications that are not tightly integrated with the system (most commonly, games).
If you want to know how to do it, then reply back or PM me. I shall post here.
Hope this helps to clear some basic idea about memory.
Hi, everyone.
I have a question if somebody is able to copy or move applications to external sd card either with rooted stock or custom rom. What applications or mods did you do to enable such option?

Im having the same problem as well. my Internal storage is half way getting there and None of the apps that I installed does not have the option to be transferred to ext_SD
Ok, after 2 days of searching over the web and forums I found a workaround for moving apps on external SD (working only on rooted phones).
1) Download and install FolderMount program from Google Play store.
2) Open the program, tap on "+", enter name (any alias), source folder of the app, and destination (external sd with the same folder already created or choose automatic method), then tap on check mark.
3) Wait till the program copies the application to external sd and creates link. After you need to tap on pin icon and it'll turn to green.
If you get some notification, just click "Yes".
P.S.
Don't delete the folder with the moved app in your internal memory, as it'll also delete the app from external SD. If you want to check if the program moved, unpin the program and browse to the app folder in your internal memory and you won't see the files there. FolderMount creates the link to the application in internal memory to trick Android. Every time Android requests the application, it passes the request to its internal memory and after goes via the link to external SD. That is the only trick that worked for me.
I read on the butterfly 901s/e forum thread and it said something about fat32
I have Kingston 64gb formated in FAT32, don't know if Android works properly with exFAT or ext format. You can't format 64gb SD card in FAT32 with Windows, but you can install other partition wizards like Minitool Partition Wizard to format it.
Does the old setinstalllocation trick work here?

If you mean "set pm install location" command, then no. I tried that trick, however programs didn't even install on internal memory after I used the command. I left it as default "0".

Pretty pathetic that Android still won't allow SDCard as default storage, how long has Android been around vs Windows Phone? And Windows Phone can already do it
If you're brave, you can root your phone and download an app called link2sd. Then you have to partition your sd card and you can move anything (to my understanding) to the SD card. I'm gonna do it tonight, I'll let you know how I go!
Partitioning went real well! I'm gonna add a bigger partition tonight. Feel free to PM me for details!
I personally thing its a bad idea as SD cards are slower than the builtin storage. I would like to be able to move more data to the SD card, generally keep all my media on the SD card and move a few apps. Keep rest on the internal and keep it clean.
I have a 128GB high performance SD card that has quick read and write speeds and it works fine for me- I reckon it's a matter of preference.
I'm around my link2sd/partition for about a week...
Hope you can help me!

Yes, you can use it. The short answer is that adopted storage is not an optimal solution, but it can work just fine if you set it up the right way. Which Honor 4x variant do you have, btw? What I write now is valid for the Che2-L11.
Many people think that adopted storage is the same as mounting an extra partition which Android will then use in the most rational way. This is not correct. Developers of Android decided to not use the card for essential files, so when you add adopted storage, Android will still install some parts of each app on your internal storage. Also, some developers of apps have not made their apps ready for adopted storage, and they will install on internal.
For this reason, your internal storage will continue to be filled up with new files even after you have added adopted storage, and might approach 100%, so your phone will tell you there is no more space left for installing new apps. All the while your card still has plenty of space.
But don't worry, you can avoid such a scenario if you do prepare your phone a little.
To get the best possible result, I recommend that you wipe your phone and do a fresh install of EMUI. You need to unlock the bootloader, set the USB developer option, install TWRP, and then flash the firmware the normal way. (This is quite complicated procedure, you should study how to do this yourself.) After that, put an SD card into the phone, and it should be a card that doesn't contain anything important so you can format it. Follow the instructions for adopted storage, which will format your SD card. EMUI will have problems if you use all 100% of the card as adopted, so choose the option mixed 50. The SD card must be minimum class 10 speed for apps to work normally.
Then you should root your phone, and install Root Essentials. Then set the option for "install apps on SD card". After that, your phone will try to install all new apps on the SD card on the adopted storage. You will probably be using around 75% of your internal storage, and might reach 85%, but you can continue adding a lot of apps before you get a problem. I have installed 30+ apps and am using 82% of internal storage. Good luck. :good:

To answer your question, EMUI doesn't support adaptable storage out of the box.

Adopted Storage? Nope.
Do you even checked the Settings > Storage menu? You can pick either use internal (its small) or the microsd (Im maxed out at 128gb, anybody tried 256gb?)
Or get root, and use Apps2SD. Keep going and install as many apks as you want.
U can try adopted storage . Check if this feature is available in storage menu
