For me when I cover the screen with my palm, there is a quick vibration then screen dims and comes back on. On my square G watch this would enter theater mode which was nice in the car to turn off the display when dark outside.
The pull down menu, swipe left theater mode does work. That method isn't as convenient when driving however.
I know there are settings for always on and tilt to wake screen, but I only want the screen to turn off while driving at night. Rest of the time I like the screen on to show watch face and brighten when I raise arm.
Any other settings or way to make the palm cover work?

Press the side button twice to enter theatre mode.
Same here. As soon as "Always on" mode is active, covering the screen does not trigger anymore theater mode.
Only way to get it is double press the side button as mentioned by mward1999
covering the screen should get you ambient mode not theater mode, when using always on.

Unfortunately no. Now you have to swipe down, tap the brightness icon, tap theater mode icon. Definitely less convenient.

I was lying down on my back. Hands up looking at phone. I watched some video. I viewed some pictures. I turned it off and shortly after I got up to plug it into the charger.
When I turned the screen on to verify my alarm was set, the screen is normally portrait in orientation was landscape. It would not rotate. So, I unlocked it in landscape mode, which is a tad awkward just because I'm not used to it.
The screen would only rotate into landscape, or portrait, but portrait was upside down! The buttons for back or home were away from me. Turn off screen and back on. Same thing. Lock screen landscape.
So, I figure I'll go do that calibration where you put your phone on a level surface. It pops up in landscape and all I could see was a letter G and rest was black screen.
Rebooting fixed the problem, but does anyone know if I might have hit something or if there's a fix without rebooting?

Personally this hasn't happened to me but I have heard of it happening. From what i have read and heard is that the proximity sensor for some reason gets stuck. i have heard of people using the old flashlight trick that was used on the M7 to fix it but a reboot fixes it every time. So I don't think you bumped anything. hope this helped .
Hi everyone,
Theather Mode is clear to me (you can toggle it off/on). However how does Sunlight mode work? There is no On/Off Toggle in this setting?
Regards,
Fabio
From what I understand, it's a kind of boost for a short moment. A toggle wouldn't make sense in this mode as it would suck your battery.

just pull down the menu that would have muted the watch on 4.4
from there you can swipe to the left to activate the sunlight mode
apparently, Triple-clicking the hardware button quickly activates Sunlight Mode too

I know how to trigger it. I am more interested how it works. So it boosts brightness.... for how long? and can I stop it somehow?

Fabio

Cool! And 2 clicks does theater mode.
I was going to say, it would be hard to be in the sun, trying to see the screen, to pull down and select Sunlight mode  ...

I don't know why they made it that way: You have to swipe down, swipe 2 times to the right and then hit the switch. No way I can find my way in bright sunlight... (LG Watch, without buttons...)
I think they should have implemented it that way : every time you touch the face to wake the watch, maximize brightness for about 1 sec - enough to read but not enough to drain battery.

And, in case you do that in the complete darkness, when you are half asleep ... you got yourself a temporary blindness and a wake-up bump .
Should be a way to change the time for sunligth mode. Sometimes 5 sec is not enough, for example to open the navigator or search something in internet.
Another way could be if you are touching the screen the watch should extend this time for 5 sec more.
could be a good mod!
On the LG G watch R you can press the Button on the side 3 times quickly which gives you sunlight mode.

See post 3 :good:
I have an LG G Watch R.
immediately after this update about 1.5 weeks ago that I installed my watch no longer functions as it functioned before.
I no longer get call notifications on the watch. previously when a call came in the watch would start vibrating the caller image would appear and I could answer or ignore from the watch.
this no longer occurs (HUGE functionality loss for me)
also "always on" no longer works. it always turns off VERY rapidly after a few short seconds and you can only turn it on again by pressing the button. no "ambient" mode any more.
and of course since ambient is off (I assume) twist to full on does not work anymore
touch will not wake it up twist will not wake it up ONLY pressing the button.
suggestions? these are simply massively functionality losses to me I flat out would not have bought it if it functioned this way when I got it. what's the point?
I am hoping this is something I can fix. yes I checked android wear no joy. I uncheck and recheck always on and the watch comes on for a second and then goes off again. still have to press the button to make it live again.
Cinema mode activated?
Sent from my SGP611 using XDA Free mobile app
What is that? I do not see anything called cinema mode anywhere?
On active screen swipe down from the top and then wipe left. You will see Cinema mode and Sunlight boost.

That, or you can push the button twice really fast. Does the same thing, just quicker...
Thank you so much both of you that was exactly the problem watch is working normally now double tap and I noticed there was a tiny little icon in the middle of the screen look kind of like a little microphone icon the line through it very tiny but now I know what to look for if it happens again again thank you
EDIT: I meant accidental, not actual. in the title above. Oops.
Basically is there a way to "lock" my watch in ambient mode until I press the side button? I already have all gestures turned off so movement doesn't wake my watch but I don't like having to make sure my watch isn't resting against my leg while sitting or against my arm when my arms are crossed. I am open to rooting if that provides a resolution.
I don't know about locking it to only be in ambient mode, but I use the app "Showear" to screen lock the watch. The watch will still go in and out of ambient mode with a screen touch (or wrist movement if you have that gesture turned on), but the app will act like a keyguard until unlocked. The app is free and has enough config options for my use, allowing me to set a pattern of taps and swipes to disengage the lock and and a quick swipe up from the bottom locks the watch. There are also options to automatically engage the lock when going into standby and so forth. So while it's not quite what you are describing with using the side button, it is an easy option that has been working well for me.
Have you tried this?
Hi, I recently purchased this phone and yesterday I noticed that the screen cannot be rotated 180 degrees. I've browsed the forum a bit but I haven't found anything specific and at least it doesn't want to work with Android 12 and One UI 4.1. Is there any way to do it, a hidden menu, a command to type in adb...?
you can't have the phone upside down in portrait mode no, but you have landscape rotating to the left or right. nobody should have a use case for turning their phone upside down so that it's displaying the same as it started out.

You ignore the fact that some of us are constantly taking chin selfies
Lol, as far as I know there's no Samsung for those that have their mouths where their ears should be. The extraterrestrial Samsung users are outraged.

Download System UI Tuner from playstore. Developer Zacharee Wander. There is option to "lock screen rotation custom value". And it doesn't mean the lock screen either. It means you can rotate the screen to any way 360° and lock it in that position. Hope that helps.

I have a use case. If my phone is plugged into a long charging cable it is more comfortable to hold upside down so the charge cable is coming out of the top instead of the bottom.

Welcome to XDA
One of the reasons I liked the 3.5mm jack. The C port has lousy placement for wired headphones, etc. It's a menace...
It's counterproductive to charge with the display on if that's why the cable is being used. The mobo power controller will significantly ramp down the charge so there's little or no charging taking place. It also needlessly stresses the battery ie prolonged higher temperatures.
You can use low energy apps like bt and Poweramp as long as the display is off, it will still fast charge.

180 rotation does change the location of audio port, charge port, volume button, power button, camera, flash ......
Not a perfect solution, but a quick one: Rotation Control (A52 with OneUI 5)
I wanted to use the phone as a radio today and the cable should go behind the desk, and not always bend 180° from the underside of the phone. I had to activate "Guard mode".
