Is it worth ? - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i found a used Galaxy S3 mini for sell , im a little worried about the device performance since its not a high end smartphone so i'm asking all its user if its worth to have it or not
PS : the price is 40 euro and the Screen Glass is alittle broken ( just the glass )

I have several phones & still use the mini as it's easy to carry around compared to my larger phone. I debloated mine + plus using s v14 virginity rom customized stock. It's a great little blogger without the higher Google integration of higher version Android. Not good for modern games. Provided the screen ain't too damaged try for €25-€20.

I run modded stock & debloated so on average i have between 400mb / 500 free mb. I need this amount for orfox/Firefox multi tab 30+ & other apps switching between them. I don't use the official social apps as they have scary permissions & resource hungry.
Just make sure it's the GT-I8190 /n/p model & not the GT-I200 ve

Status LED
Oh Great!
yeah, here's the first one:
I saw on different pictures just left to the upper speaker several... let's say "spots".. in the display. I suppose one is for the brightness regulation and the others? For what they are? Would be amazing if one of these spots is a Status LED! Could you come up with this info?
thanks!
PS: h t t p://presse.lge.de/riot-utils/download/media/3/87566576697678/lg_optimus_speed_2.jpg Here you'll see what I mean.
probably proximity senzor, I dont think it has led indicator.
test battery life with sync and all apps and backround services, debugging etc off.
tet standby over a night with 3g and 2g.
then test heavy sufing with opera mini and standard browser on lowest and hight brightness
Yeah battery is important.
real life performance
Hi
I would be interested to know how smooth the optimus 2x would be after one day of usage and without using an application killer.
from my experience with the Galaxy S, the phone is quite smooth at boot time, but after sometime of usage where you would open and exit apps, the phone would get really laggy and even unusable to the extent that you have to reboot. People resort to using task killers to improve the phone performance which negates the purpose behind the android OS as it is designed to run at the same speed irrespective of whether you have 200 mb of free ram or 40 mb of free ram
So is this same with the optimus 2X or is the smooth experience persistent
Thanks
sadly .. its only the proximity sensor and nothing else .. digged into the menus and could not find anything about notification led

It's fault of Froyo not the Phone i think. There is multi task but no chance to close apps. With gingerbread update it will be better i think.
BATTERY ?
Does it play divx/xvid/mkv out of the box? and in 1080p?
If not, does any market app like vplayer or rockplayer solve it?
could you tell me if the LG flavour of Android includes the original News and weather widget?

Lag is a software problem not a hardware problem. The question is whether its a problem pertinent to the Android system itself or the vendor specific add-ons (bloatware) that each vendor adds (Touchwiz, htc sense, etc)

I picked the phone up about a week ago.. Here's what I can tell you about the performance over time.
Immediately after a reboot it runs like a dreams.. even after a couple days its fine. I ended up having to reboot today because it was starting to get pretty laggy. But like rouvax said, i believe thats an OS problem, not a phone problem.

The phone comes with an app called CarHome (one of google's apps i believe), which after looking at the battery usage is an energy hog. After killing that, and some of the other bloatware that comes on it, the phone will last me a day or so of light usage with wifi constantly on. Playing a lot of games will obviously drain the battery, down to about 8-10 hrs from what i've noticed, I haven't tested it extensively for exact numbers

Hi!
One thing that would be nice to is if there is a widget to enable/disable mobile data connection.
What I mean is the widget "mobile" that (mostly?) HTC devices have.
Maybe the 2X/Speed has one under "LG Widgets".
Here are some screenshots of what I mean:

Hi,
Does the 2x support USB OTG or USB host, i.e. is it possible to access an external USB storage? Would be great to stream media from an external hard drive via DLNA or HDMI. A micro-SD card is too small for a feature-length 1080p movie.
Thanks
- Does it have a good and loud speaker function so it can be used in a car (as navigation)?
- Can de LG launcher be disabled in favor of the stock android launcher?

[Q] Enough is enough! How is it possible;

Today, a friend, called me to setup a new android phone for his wife. It was the cheap, very cheap, Alcatel Onetouch 908.
I transfered contacts, calendar events, configured emails and installed some apps from the market. The phone felt speedy, to be exact much more speedy than my Galaxy S and that started to bother me. What bothered me more was my friend, who has a Galaxy S II device. He told me out of the blue that alcatel felt speedier than his S II. I finished and 'take it for a walk'. I started sequently loading apps (browser, gmail, contants, market and talk) and then multitasked between them. The initial loading was almost immediate and, to my suprise, mutitasking was instant. My Galaxy felt like a second class device, my world shuttered... almost
I left my friend and I was angry, very angry. How could that be? I've tried numerous roms, customs and stock ones, with lagfixes enabled or disabled but, truth to be told, all of them felt like rubbish compared to an alcatel onet... I don't want to tell the evil's name!
Now, I am still angry but not with Alcatel,.. with Samsung! Am I wrong? What are your thoughts? Does anyone have an answer? Was just my imagination?
I don't suppose you have tried running 3D games on it?
knowledge is Power. Guard it well.
I did and it was fantastic... just kidding
No I didn't. But now you've said it, just for the laughs, next time I will be around, I'll try angry birds... if possible (although not a 3D game... I think)!
Ugliest thing ever seen on Internet
aaaaaaaaawwwwwwww, this is uglyyyyy, what an ugly phone, even if it had the speed of light, or even faster, the speed of thought or even much faster than those the speed of GOD, I would take the SGS anytime.
btw, try quadrant too, see if you get some noticable scores with it, if it's really worth your time, but if it was me, I wouldn't even set it up for a girl friend, let alone a friends girl.
well its the same story again u see a new android phone unused or if even used then used very very lightly(just calls, sms, have 10-25 apps. and all that) ! man any android pgone newly bought and used lightly can be very fast! i saw my friends galaxy ace on 2.2 bpught just 3 days ago and very lightly uaed and it was working like a lightning! if you want to see your phone this fast then flash stock jvs and you'll face lightning but as soon you get some apps in and start using it heavily youll start facing lags! download 100 apps. and do heavy multitasking on that alcatel for a week or so and youll start hating it and will throw it into a dustbin!

You should try CyanogenMod 7 (CM7) out of the box (no apps/games installed).
It's just fast - the speed is nearly amazing. Same thing with MIUI.
And just forget stock-ROMs. You won't want to use them after you have tried an AOSP-ROM (CM7 or MIUI).

Its not like that exactly but its very true both cm7 and minuit out of the box are amazing infraction I just installed 1.9.16 miui and it has just 7 apps. Installed and it's balzing fast ! But minuit has many problems of its own so I am moving back to Samsung based rom jetpack v5 spark very soon !

-I've tried CM7: it was fast but... it didn't felt home. So I dished it and went back to the samsung related rom's!
-Yes, SGS is prettier than 908 but really it's not so ugly. After all, my post was about speed, not beauty.
-So, if I load alcatel with 100+ apps I will feel the pain you say. We'll see... But if it's true then I will be angry again, very angry... with Google!
Memory Management
The thing about multitasking is that is related mainly with memory and memory management. I think it's true, if enough free memory exists any os will keep more tasks active and multitask between them will be instant...
But android keeps loading and unloading apps, in the background, which I almost never use but consume memory.
Skype is the perfect example. When i do not need it, I am signing off skype and go straight back to my home screen... Of course, as we all know, skype persists and never exits. It's just sits there consuming memory and doing nothing. If I try to kill it, android will happily and immediately reload it. The only way really kill it, is to uninstall it, but is this a solution?
One more example? The facebook app or the friencaster app. Even if I disable every automatic refresh or log off from facebook some part of them will keep running and like skype I cannot kill it.
The essence of all this is that: I own a phone with 512 mb of ram assisted with a powerful, 1 GHz, CPU, much - much more than an alcatel OT 908 and this doesn't show. Maybe is the 100+ apps I've installed in my phone, maybe is android, maybe is a bug, maybe it's me whining. Whatever is it... it's wrong and yes, I'm starting feeling angry, very angry with... Google and Samsung

Assuming your phone is rooted there are apps that can disable or prevent other apps from starting and running in the background- android optimize and autostarts seem to work for me.

Looking at the specs for the OneTouch, I am not surprised it is fast.
The 600mhz chip it is using is quite overpowered for what is effectively a featurephone. It is also supporting a much smaller, less advanced screen (256K colors, TFT) which frees up a LOT of cpu cycles for basic functions. This kind of speed while just being a phone is why feature phones aren't as dead as people keep assuming.
It is also running Froyo, which was made for this kind of phone and likely races on it, without having to worry about the sort of strains a Galaxy class smartphone puts on an OS.
Remember, if you install a slimmed down OS on a custom designed modern laptop, and ONLY install a handful of programs no doubt it will break speed records. However, to judge it against a fully loaded, professional install is like comparing apples and oranges.

alcatel ot 908 runs NFS shift, NOVA, Gangstar, BIA2, Sandstorm, Sims3, Rackless Racing, GuerillaBob, dead space....runs 99% hd games that don't requires armv7 or 2.3
it's way better then most off QVGA android and all msm7201 and msm7225.... (hvga and qvga)
for that money...
Well I have to say.
Just bought this second hand SGS to test and compare with my Desire HD.
If I can be honest. Both have the same clock freq and specs seems the same, but the DHD (lets call it that way) is alot faster than the SGS.
I am amazed how long it takes to just open the camera. On the DHD the camera app opens in half a second I think.
Then sometimes you click on something and nothing happens making you think that you didn't click anything at all. On the DHD opening anything is instant.
I'm running Darky 10.22 so if someone knows if I need to change something to make this a faster thing please let me know.
the only advantage of the desire hd and the alcatel ot 908 (i own one of these and a desire S, very similar to the hd hardware-wise) is that out-o-the-box, they're configured almost perfectly for their respective OS version and hardware.. Samsung makes some very tough and cutting-edge hardware, but they've always been lagging behind software-wise (and still are to some extent, i know what i'm talking about here too : my main device is a note2 N7100 and my dev/test device is my old -but almost unbreakable even when I'm the one who opens it up to solder or repair sthg in it- galaxy s2 i9100... None of those were left "stock", they're both fitted with CM10-derivated ROMs (most of the time a ParanoidAndroid or some derivate), heavily customized and "after-market" optimized (thanks to all the good tips&tweaks found here at XDA ^^) just to remedy those problems.. Never for my life would I leave one of these stock (I run a stock firmware on a dual-boot on the SGS2, but that's only for entering USSD codes, as these usually won't work on CM7/9/10 ROMs)... And yet, they're both way better when they're still "stock" than the Wave 1 was, with his powerful 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, but a puny 512Mb RAM -shared with the OS/CPU and GPU at that, leaving a mere 312Mb -give or take- to the poor user.. Far too low for its memory-hungry Bada OS,even in its latest and last 2.X versions.. I couldn't even open a second page in its Dolphin browser before it started shutting down background apps and closing widgets.. :s).

you won't be able to load that many apps on it m8... ^^
even with a big-ass 32Gb SD card, its /system and /data partitions are way too tiny for this number.. trust me, I've tried it, it choked at 20-30 tops for "average" apps (between 1 and 4Mb each)...

[Q] Buying a SGS 1 now: some questions about performance

Hello,
I'm thinking about getting a SGS 1 used, because I saw some of them priced about 150 €, and I think it's a good price. I searched here in XDA and in other forums, but there are some questions I have that still hasn't got answer:
1)is this phone fast with latest jelly bean roms? I mean, I like to have my phone update to the latest version, but I need it to be fully useable.
I don't play games at all, so I don't care about gaming performance, the things I care about are being fast using everyday application (for example, browsing, then sending an sms, then start browsing again, with no lag).
Now i have a phone with 180 mb of ram, using the lightest rom available, with lightest apps (zeam launcher, pansi sms) and sometimes I have to wait something like 3 minutes before I can send an sms(open pansi, wait for it to load sms, wait fo the keyboard to load), and sometimes it doesn't even send them!
I would like to have a phone updated and working without lags using simple apps(the heaviest app I use is Skype, but I keep it open only when I need to call), it this phone capable to do it WITHOUT using swap on sd card?
2)is this phone camera good? I read that is not one of the best out there, but shots in daylight are nice?
3)how about battery life, using the fastest Jelly bean rom available?
4)there are things I need to know before buying it? ( I read something about different NAND, what does it mean?)
5)the i9000 is the best among the different Galaxy I?
thank you very much!

Problems on XPeria Z ! Disapointed!!

Hi All
I've bought the Sony Xperia Z since now 2 days and I'm a little disapointed..
Ok the phone is beautiful, the screen too but there is really bad bad point for people who come from an Iphone 5. Everybody said that this phone is fluid and better than a Galaxy Tab but after 2 days of use , it seem that it's really not the case!!. Even with a good processor quad core , the speed is not even better than the galaxy Tab 2. Even my girlfriend who are on an Iphone 4S said that the Sony XZ is not fluid as the iphone and she knows nothing about phones.
When I'm unlocking my phone, I always have a lag between moving between desktop. After 1 days I've installed Nova Launcher, It was a little more fluid but not the best ! Sorry but when I see the caracteristics of the phone , it's a monster but with Android , it's slow ! SLOW SLOW!!
I'm the only one who see this??? Even with a monster phone Android don't work well! I'm even hesitate the add more than 2 widgets....
The Second point is the webbrowsing... It's horrible, I've try Firefox, Chrome and dolphin and really , it's not fluid at all, when you scrolling in web pages it's slow to show pages , pictures etc...
The Third point is the temperature... it grow to 38° when I use it for more than 20 mins....
So the Xperia Is a good phone but theses point disapoint me a lot.. I was thinking that with a monster last generation phone, it's going to be fluid and I see that's not the case..
Does somebody can help me maybe??

Just wait a few days for the 4.2.2 update and stop crying :silly:
maybe your device is defect?
i'm using the z for nearly 3 weeks now, haven't had a single problem.
phone is fast, ui is smooth and fluid, no lags. and i have plenty of widgets. temperature isn't hot.
compared it to a friends iphone 5 - no lags, not less fluid or smooth.
unlock bootloader, root, remove junk system file, use cook rom, custom kernel i think you will feel better
Wait for a stable CM10.1 build or 4.2.2
I also dont know what to do with the XZ. I have it for 3 days now, but i am a little dissapointed about the screen and the connectors are very annoying. Theres also a lot of dust. I think i will switch to Galaxy s 4 or htc one!

But agreed, out the box, the phone isnt smooth or quick to use at all.

Does somebody can help me maybe??

i cannot see any of these problem in my phone
iPhone is for stupid people (girls/boys who don care of developing)
it s android if u have problem with this ROM u can root and change it
change kernel
change firmware
iPhone 5 is dual-core, 1.2 GHz, 1gm ram, 4inch (not hd!)
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Xperia Z is QUADcore, 1.5 GHz, 2GB RAM, 5inch, FULL HD
so it normal for temperature to increase But phone will work properly in high temp. :good:
(iphone users cannot imagine this )

Hi All
I've bought the Sony Xperia Z since now 2 days and I'm a little disapointed..

Use a good launcher, and disable/uninstall some of the apps that you don't use. This phone is quick, much smoother compared to any iPhone i've used.

+10, and much more customisable
The phone can lag a little in settings menu and with Sony launcher but aside from that it settles down once you've had it a while. I can't explain why.
I use dolphin browser as the stock browser and chrome are a little laggy. Dolphins not perfect but right now it's faster and has much less lag.
Non I'm root but I need to unlock bootloader to be able to install Custom Rom And I don't want to loose my warranty... XZ seems to have so much problems don't want to loose my money

[Q] Is this a good phone?

Hey, in some few days i will recieve this phone, i was asking if is better to sell it or take it, i was planning to sell it ans buy a moto g, but in my country they are all sold out, i think they will come in 2 weeks.

The phone is rubbish with stock Samsung OS and software! Slow often glitchy, long waits for simple stuff like switching between apps or even going back to the home screen.
BUT - with a custom ROM this phone is potentially AWESOME. Lag is gone, battery life much better. I make my girlfriend jealous and she has an iPhone 5S, lol.
Slightly bigger screen than iPhone, much lighter, more sturdy, expandable memory, FM tuner, and with a custom ROM loads more features and better interface.
Some ROMs are not available for this phone but a lot are: Many available from maclaw.pl, I've tried CM11 but found Carbon (latest unofficial KitKat) has a few more options and some nice optimisations to maximise battery life without sacrificing performance at all.

Hey, thank you, i think i will stay with it, and what can you tell me about games?, is good enough?, thanks bye
With stock, framerates go slow sometimes - since going custom no probs at all. Play a lot of Real Steel World Robot Boxing, a 3D effects-heavy game, runs without a hitch. Screen quality good, graphics good.
I just got one yesterday as a replacement for my work phone. I was using an iPhone 4 on iOS 7. thdevicee mini is a about the same size, but I have the benefits of android, root, larger screen, and the Google kit Kat keyboard. compared to the outdated iPhone 4 it's a decent upgrade.
my personal line is a galaxy s4. the s3 mini doesn't compare, but given that the s4 is my primary device and the s3 mini is for work calls and email only it's pretty dang good.
its a good phone but we have only a few developers for custom roms
---------- Post added at 12:48 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:43 AM ----------
also we still dont have miui rom for example, wich almost every other phone already have one stable :/
custom ROM support, or lack thereof, doesn't make a phone good or bad...
if flashing ROMs is a priority, get a nexus as AOSP based ROMs on pretty much anything else sucks. any device with a Google Play Edition version and an unlocked boot loader will be a very close second.
I think the S3 Mini is a very nice phone but there are many other phones which has better performance and battery but they are not so cheap like the S3 Mini The Moto G is okay but the Gaming Performance is bad.. sry for my bad english
It's typical mid-range, with a decent custom ROM every day tasks are quick and the phone is very responsive. It'll gobble up casual games easily and some old intensive games but unsurprisingly you're not going to playing brand new high end games!
