I have unlocked, rooted L09 with TWRP, current firmware is L09C432B136. I would like to update to B166, but it would be nice to have TWRP flashable zip so that I wouldn't have to relock bootloader etc to get the update.
Is there a flashable zip somewhere?
That's what I would look for too! I am not helpful in doing stuff like this, but I would really appreciate if there is someone able to do this!!
You don't need to lock the bootloader for an update, nor should an OTA lock the bootloader. Unroot and restore stock recovery. Then check for updates.

Hello guys,
I'am using a custom bootloader en received an OTA update, but it won't install the regular way.
So i've flashed the stock recovery.img back, hoping it would work, but it didn't. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Relock your bootloader and it will work
Thx man! Will this wipe my data?

If you relock your bootloader you will lose nothing.
But, after, if you will unlock this, you will lose all
Thank you for the quick reply. Ok now that makes sense, so I can flash the stock recovery, lock the bootloader and then update. But I have to reinstall everything because unlocking the bootloader will wipe my device again. Isn't there any possibility to do the OTA update without losing any data?

Unfortunately that is the case I guess the only solution would be to flash the 1.29.401.16R zip from this thread so at least you will have the most up to date rom.

Thanks guys for helping me out, I think I'm going the flash the stock rom back and quit root acces. Maybe I will root my m7 back when the google rom is out.
Hi, I was just wondering what the steps were to keep stock software and root so I can still install OTA updates. I saw the guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265618 but I wasn't quite sure under 'Rooting Stock ROM', whether this meant I had to have an unlocked bootloader and custom recovery, just an unlocked bootloader or whether I could flash this through the stock recovery.
Thanks!

Step require to root is to first unlock the bootloader, flash a custom recovery like TWRP, then root using TWRP.
When you unlock the bootloader, the process will wipe /data partition. This include the /data/preload folder were HTC preloaded apps are (flashlight, calculator, soundhound and much more). In alsmost each ota updates, some of these apps are patched but because they were wiped, the ota installation will fail. So in order to still receive ota, you must restore the entire content of that folder after unlocking bootloader. This can be done using someone's backup, guru reset rom, or a RUU.
You'll also need to restore stock recovery for your version which is needed to install ota updates.
You will probably need to re-root after each ota, which is not a really hard thing to do.
So since the firmware updates are not 'flashable' yet via TWRP, am I right in assuming that one can only update one's firmware if one goes back to stock?? I know this will change but trying to understand the current options for flashing/installing firmware updates for the P9Plus (rooted), thanks
just flash original recovery over twrp than update as normal, then flash twrp/root after that.
thanks, any idea where to get original recovery?
I found in twrp topic or you can find in Rayglobe tool
Does root break the ability to use OTA? I have unlocked my bootloader and only used the root boot img, other than that, nothing custom (no custom recovery or ROMs yet).
I'm still on .103 (CLT-L09), but I'm hearing of people on .111
I get the message that an OTA update is available, but i am not able to update because I have TWRP. Maybe it would be possible to flash update.zip via TWRP when someone offers a patched version.

I had the same concerns, was on the 106 fw, rooted and bootloader unlocked.
I received the update notification for the 107 fw, accepted the update, system downloaded the OTA and restarted, but was unable to update the OTA, then restart and update notifaction said the phone will download the whole 107 fw not just the OTA file, then restarted and updated successfully, had to re-root it then.
Hope this info is helpful,
In my case this didn't work (received the 120 firmware ota but didn't install with twrp). In a German forum I read you need a no-check recovery. Is there any already available or anybody working on it?

Hello,
I have a P10 with TWRP, rooted and bootloader unlocked. Now I Received new version.
My current is VTR-L09 8.0.0.373(C02) and
new is VTR-L09 8.0.0.378(C02) - there is face unlock feature.
Probably because there is TWRP normal(automatic) update doesn't work. After restar process jums into TWRP and doesn!t continue.
Question is how to install?
Doesn!t metter If I lost unlock, root and all. But how to revert to stock(new) version?
I am expecting that comlete instalation is downloaded in phone, I have current new struture(download) inside:
New folder(files) are in:
\data\update\HwOUC\140830\
update_data_full_public.zip 87.66MB
update_full_CTR-L09_vodafone_default.zip 921.22MB
update.zip 2.00GB
\data\update\HwOUC\updateauth\
update_auth.sa 1.45K
the structure inside the zip files is not normal as we have for twrp flashing.
Any hint, idea, how to do this?

The version that is intended for me(unlocked, root, twrp) doesn¨t work. And there is no additional progress from developer.
Any other idea how to update unlocked phone to new version?
you have to simply re flash the original recovery (to replace TWRP)...then you do the update then,re flash TWRP
