Does anyone know if the bootloader is going to be locked. I want to order the new note, but trying to see if it going to be locked like the s7.

Given the history of the s7/e, I am 98% sure it will be locked. The phone has yet to be delievered, and we should have more Information after that.
Good Vegas bet it's locked...
I would say it safe to assume all snapdragon devices will be locked...exynos will likely remain unlocked...all north American models (yes, even the w8) will be Qualcomm chips and almost 100% certainly locked....

I just got off the phone with a Tech from Samsung... his words were the Snapdragon 820 variant in Canada has already been routed according to his computer he also said it should be unlocked for the T-Mobile variant... I'm just keeping my fingers crossed but like I said the Samsung technician who I talk to for about 30 minutes said this..

If it is unlocked. this may be the first device I've ever owned that I won't root.
All USA variant phones will be locked....This has been talked about repeatedly.... It's a hardware based lock that TMO has no control over....It's all Samsung.
I know Android Police just posted their review and they are using a TMO version. I wonder if someone reached out to the to check BL status. I'm sure they would.

I really am... the tech seemed to know what he was talking about... at first he thought when I was talking to bootloaders I meant to change phone companies when I explain no its for root he specifically looked up where these phones are being routed out and told me that the Canadian version which is the version were getting has already been delivered and they already have root! I just wish somebody from Canada would chime in and say yes it's true

carrier unlock is different than Bootloader unlock
I explained that and he knows the difference... each carrier gets a specific code to unlock their phones for the people that's not what I talked to the tech about ....we were talking about obtaining root status from a bootloader unlock perspective. He said the bootloader should not be locked from Samsung... unless the company specifically asked for it like a AT&T specifically asks for it... T-Mobile does not specifically ask ..... I'm just quoting what he said. pick it apart any way you like

Can you post a link to where HTC has said they will release an unlock?
just google around the fourm, Except AT&T all HTC Vivid variations are already supporting unlocked bootloader (Through htcdev.com)
If you are AT&T , bootloader is locked at the request of AT&T and I know you can call AT&T and complain because in USA google pushed for a law that would make all device unlocked on the new 700Mhz spectrum.

HTC internal tech told me that ATT has not requested a lock nor do they have the authority to enfoce it. Then again their site says bootloader locks vary on devices based on their partners, not really sure there other then shiofting blame maybe
Drew
The only reason I can think of that an Internal Tech would say AT&T did not request the Lock is to cover their asses from a stupid lawsuit from AT&T considering how much money they have and how many different manufacturers exist. Other than that everything is pointing to it actually being AT&T who wants the phone locked considering the Rogers variation is unlocked. Also if you look at what phones are on that website that say can be unlocked None of the AT&T phones are on there even though they can be unlocked.

Its very confusing beacuse both ATT and HTC have stated that neither of them have requested a bootloader lock and that it would be released "later"
I could see ATT requesting lockes however everyother device that is currently available LG, Samsung and ZTE all have unlocked bootloaders. So its very confusing that they would request locks on only 1 of their 10 Android devices.
TBH i have no idea, both both companies are saying the bootloader will be unlocked "later"

I think the forum is slow for a couple of reasons:
1. Like others have stated, there is only so much you can do without permanent root.
2. The phone just WORKS! I purchased $50 worth of apps on my old Atrix just to get it to do what Sense and HTC's implementation of Gingerbread does.
... Also, the phone is new and few accessories.

I totally agree, I unlocked the bootloader and got the temp root but now I don't know why I would need either of that. The only thing I did was removed some bloatware from system (not that I needed to do it). Everything till now seems to be perfect just works flawlessly or is broken that rooting won't fix.
I don't think there is is any ROM with sense 3.5 and 2.3.5 which can ported etc....I would rather wait for ICS and I don't think any one would work on porting it for this device yet any ways ,,,
the only things I am looking to get out of root (other than some custom ROMs) are getting mobile hotspot working and to a lesser extent TiBu.

I'm torn between purchasing an AT&T Note 3 or a T-Mobile one. I know the AT&T Note 3 bootloader will be locked and I will most likely have to wait for it to be unlocked and rooted if that is even possible since there is no one who has tried yet. The T-Mobile Note 3 will most likely have an unlocked bootloader but I've been reading around the forums and people are saying that you can not purchase the device with out a plan from T-Mobile even if you do pay for the device out right can I get some clarification on that? So which one would be best for my needs? I'm on AT&T currently and would like to stay with them but I do want root and an unlocked bootloader. What do you guys think? I know I posted this on the AT&T sub-forum but do you have any regrets of not pre-ordering a T-Mobile Note 3 instead? Thanks for your help and input!

What I did was use my upgrade to get a GN3, I am going to sell that then for about 700 and buy and unlocked Tmobile GN3 from Negrielectronics.com so I'm spending around 400 dollars on a GN3 for Tmobile that has an unlocked bootloader and can use ATT's LTE.
Not a bad suggestion. Appreciate the input

You can't. Once the stock firmware has been released for the AT&T version(which it hasn't) a dev like chainfire will modify the recovery from it. If it flashes successfully then it is unlocked. If it fails then it is locked. It is very risky to test flash something without the stock firmware.

Some people have said they were able to by the phone without service and some have not. Yes you can get it unlocked from a third party like cellunlocker.net. If you have a friend on Tmobile you might take them to lunch or something and stop by Tmobile. The phone doesn't have to be used on their account. I just think some store's are requiring an active account to buy it outright. I bought mine from Negri already unlocked. Still hasn't shipped yet though. For no tax I can wait.
Thanks for the advice! I just went to my local T-mobile and purchased one no questions asked. Granted it was 739$ before taxes and now I'm just waiting for my unlock code to be emailed to me by cellunlocker.net. overall very happy with my purchase.

It ended up being 739$ plus tax instead of the normal 708$ but it was worth it. The sales associate didn't hassle me or anything about a plan. It's a mixed bag I guess some people on the forums had to get a plan but I was lucky enough not to.

Well our bootloader is locked. You need custom Kernals for anything other than TouchWiz ROMS.
I have seen some pretty close to AOSP roms with the right dev but we will NEVER have AOSP roms on this phone.
Only if Samsung had it like HTC's website for the M8. They have the option to unlock their bootloaders. SMH

i dont like verizon, so ill never be on verizon, but fastboot oem unlock IS a nexus feature, introduced to us through the nexus one and every nexus after. while verizons version can be sim locked, all nexus come with an unlockable bootloader, even if the provider doesnt like it. and im pretty sure that this fact wont change. heck, im pretty sure the att version would have had a locked bootloader, if they were allowed to add that in.

eBay perhaps listing it available for Europe. If your lucky it'll sell for $400 minus fees , you'd end up with a smidge below $300.
If possible ,.try and swap it for a blacklisted unlocked UK or euro device.
That way each mutal party will get a phone that will work on their corresponding country.

Good ideal but I wonder which site he would use to try and swap? And not get scamed? OP we seen another guy in another thread. Got scam with fake Note 8. Craigslist is full of douche bags who try stuff like this. Delete your craigslist app and never use again.
Use Offerup, Ebay, LetGo, FB ads, Amazon, etc. I will never use craigslist.

That's a good question , I don't think there is anything to facilitate that. Shame as I've seen a few USA and UK blacklisted issues on this forum to date. Would have been nice if a swap took place to eliviate issues on both parties.
Perhaps a new market has now been envisaged .

Yeah never ever deal with craigslist again. If you use another site pay attention to there feedback and details. If you buy anything that's expensive research the crap out of it. If you use other sites we suggested and lets say buy another phone. Have them meet you at your cell carrier. They will be able to tell you if it's stolen, locked, fake, etc.
Seller refuses then don't deal with them. Sites I have to deal with in person. If they don't have atleast 50+ reviews with 5 stars. I won't even bother dealing with them.
