Hey I'd like to know the best way to make my G4 bootloop. I've already had a past G4 replaced due to the bootloop issue with Sprint and just recently people are getting their G4's replaced with newer phones if they bootloop. Now this replacement phone already had a screen issue giving me horizontal grid-like lines underneath the glass and I've about had it with LG's crap. I want to induce a bootloop because a Sprint representative said that would be the only way to do so.
Nuke the bootloader. Theres a post around here somewhere about zeroing out the aboot or something
Honestly the funniest thread I've seen on this forum in a long time.:laugh::laugh:

Hey i may be wrong here but whats the worst that can hppen u brick your phone.
Are u rooted if you are just delete a load of system files delete it all
If ure on zvb try to flash zv6 firmware i heard it bricks
Best way to get a free g5 or HTC 10. Break the device and have the g4 replaced by insurance for as long as they are swapping people out to those models.

Well, not free. Still $150 for deductible.

erasing laf did not seem to have any effect and flashing zv6 on top of zvb is not possible lgup will refuse. even if you somehow force zv6 ROM via dd, you should always beable to go in to download mode and reflash with LGUP or LG Flash tool. or am i missing something? I do not think there is a software method to hardbrick this phone on purpose?
I dd systemZV6.img and phone will get stuck in LG logo screen. But if I put it in download mode and LGUP ZVB image it's back up and running
Who is it doing the replacing?
If it's LG sending out G5s or V10s when you send in a bootloop G4, then I'll let you know if it's true or not since my LG G4 started to bootloop as per the known defect and I sent it in for warranty replacement. Though it's been two weeks as of tomorrow and they still haven't updated the status of my claim since receiving my phone.
If it's supposedly Sprint replacing the phone with a newer phone, I find that hard to believe since they told me to go through LG if I didn't want to pay the insurance deductible because the bootloop from hardware defect is being handled by LG directly.
Either way, as soon as I receive a replacement device, I'll post an update to this reply to let you know what happened.

I can confirm that LG will not replace the phone with anything newer. I just spoke to someone at the warranty and repair center for LG and they're replacing the mainboard, flashing a factory image, running it through a battery of tests, and shipping it back out to arrive in 5-7 days.
I wouldn't get your hopes up about Sprint replacing it with something new this late in the bootloop game as their early upgrade and exchange offers have all ended for the LG G4. Unless it was the retention department of customer care, they're probably not giving out any replacements of a different model.

Based on what seems like tons of reports from XDA and the LGG4 sub-reddit, it is Sprint stores that are exchanging boot-looped G4s for newer devices. I'm also interested in inducing a bootloop for this reason, and am running a looping CPU stress test app to get the phone nice and toasty for a sustained period of time (days). I will report back if I have any luck!

I'd be careful with that. From what I understand, Sprint isn't doing that anymore and they tell you to go through LG. I just got mine back from LG literally 8 minutes ago after waiting almost a month.
Though they did replace more than the main board, which was nice. They replaced the front bezel, screen and digitizer as well. Except for the battery and battery backing (you don't send those with it) they basically gave me a whole new, thoroughly quality controlled, G4. I think the display was upgraded in some way though, because the sticker covering the screen was different than when I bought my G4 originally. It says "Quantum IPS Display", where it didn't on the first one. I haven't seen my g4 in over a month so I can't say whether it looks more vibrant like they say, though.

What firmware did they ship it with? I'm still rooted on ZV6 and don't want anything newer if I send it in.
I can verify that Sprint is not exchanging these phones out with newer or different models/brands. My phone just slowed to a crawl and then stopped functioning and when rebooted stayed at the LG Life is Good boot screen. This happened only 2 days ago, 3 weeks after my sister's exact same phone/model did the same thing. I had to lay down the "I've been a loyal customer for x years" line on them just to push my upgrade up so I could buy a new phone (HTC 10 here I come). I will however send this phone in to be repaired, but I doubt I will buy another LG phone again after this issue.
new idea for bootloop

My phone has dead because bootloop but i leave it in to fridge (supercooled) my phone frezee but i open it and it not bootloop. wow amazing revival.
straightway i think need close chip A57 (dead chip) by app Knel toolkit (pls search google) . now time it working normal.
but app knel toolkit problem stop working if you use phone alo app and hang on app.
i have new idea.
1st: why not use editor new build prop not use chip A57 at boot startup.
2: write good app for close chip A57 (Knel toolkit stop working if you hang on app.. and A57 working again to errno your phone)

Will an induced bootloop work for the warranty replacement, or will they only fix it if it has the actual defect?

Thought this was very odd. I was on phone with tech support cuz my phone bricked itself today. not sure how or why i wasnt even using it. The tech sending me replacement suggested i root my phone because it would help a lot with the random reboot issue i originally had called ina bout last week.
Proceeded to tell me that Verizon does not care if you root as long as the factory data reset will work as intended for them.

That's very odd. I used to work for AT&T and they said we could loose our job of we told a customer to change the core software on any device. Strange indeed.

yeah that is what he was saying (he was telling me how he rooted his and was using cwm as well) but he said that verizons policy is that as long as the "STOCK" factory reset takes it back to original condition then they will not persue anything any further. (which btw is stock zv7 right now) the new phone they shipped me doesnt have zv8 yet either.
who knows i just thought i would elaborate what the tech told me.
the phone i sending back had CWM on it and wouldnt boot or charge battery. so i manage to get it into emergency mode and left it for about 18 hours which gave me almost 35 % charge( seems very low) but i managed to push the zv7 tot and revivie it to send back. YAY
Vzn and root
There is a lot of misconception about rooting, I used to co manage a vzn reseller.
If you go to the android market there are root apps all over the place, if rooting voided any warranties there would be huge liability issues for legal software developers and customer uproar. Plus the hardware OEMS would not alllow it to be sold legally. Rooting is a software change you are not hacking or modifying hardware here. Plus android is marketed as open source unlike iphone OS.

Oh man, I totally did that when I had gotten my Revo. Fortunately Thecubed was around, and he took control of my computer and fixed the phone. It was awesome. I recall the battery taking for ever to recharge. We had to wait 30 minutes before we could try anything. We needed enough juice to run ADB and push stuff to my phone.

Yeah they Dont care, but brick one & try to get a replacement in warranty if you do.
Last month i made a boo boo installing Clockwork Mod and locked it up.
While they were very helpful, nice, and understanding; And a couple weeks later when I came in with my repaired phone (thanks to un_brickable) were more than happy to get me back online with a new sim card (I had to use my sons old HTC Incredible until I FINALLY found the fix). The warranty is now VOID and I was NOT going to get a new one.
I also dropped the protection plan & bought a "development" Revolution off of E-bay. So if i blow one up i can be back up & running in a couple minutes. cheaper in the long run.
Sometimes being Honest doesnt pay off. But in the end I have a BETTER phone for the experience. (2 of them actually)

Rooted phones are a liability...
For Verizon. The reps don't care (of course), but the main company does. It does void your warranty if they find out about it.
See, the tethering apps, Google navigation, Google voice, etc, etc are all lost profits. This is especially true with this phone, where in stock form, they nickel and dime you for "Verizon Navigation," "Verizon Voicemail," and "Verizon Tether."
Another negative impact for them is the number of returns the early rooting and experimentation process creates. I can remember the number of "forced failures" and nit-picking occurring on my old Eris when people were flashing the leaked upgrade that permanently disabled root, just so they had an excuse to return them.
The Verizon reps are "next-to-minimum-wage," 18-30 year old employees who could give a rat's patootie what you do with your phone. The RMA techs, on the other hand, may not be so forgiving.
Those of you experiencing issues with the screen display being garbled, it finally became listed as a known issue for Sprint. This is good for those of you having it! You should be able to get into a store and get the phone replaced for free even without insurence. It will say in the "known issues" area for techs to waive the exchange fee if thats the reason its being replaced.
I had the issue and the reps said it's a known issue. Seems to be related to a certain batch of phones and the latest update. They tried replacing the screen first and it didn't fix it then he went to the spring employee forum and then he seen its a widespread issue and they replaced my phone for me. Hope this helps

Yeah, where it it displays Snow on half the screen. We just got an offical email about it today to say that its now listed as a "known issue" for the device with an exchange waiver. So hopefully any of you with the issue can go in and get it fixed. You should be able to do so even without insurence. If they argue you that you need to pay tell them to check the site...it will say "waive fee"
I haven't gotton the chance to check since I've been off today.
Thank you for this I had to argue with the Sprint Tech support last night about this and they came up with a deal to pay my insurance for a month to swap the phone out and are sending me a new one. I reset my phone as well and haven't messed with the DPI and I have even heated it up a few times and don't seem to have the issue. I also quite running Google Now launcher and don't seem to have any problems today. Odd. Almost feel like it don't need to swap the phone but maybe I'll do the Xposed mod on this one as a test and still swap it when the other one comes....
Well it looks like they went back on the known issue and won't replace for free till LG admits its an issue. I replaced out a screen and the issue persisted for a person. Makes me wonder if it's motherboard issue. I'll keep you guys posted once it becomes official.

Are there any current known issues that they will replace the phone? I am having random reboots which is very infuriating. However, I was stupid and bought from Best Buy so I am not even sure a Sprint store could help me as they can't even activate my old phone! I have to go into Best Buy for them... I don't think I am technically a Sprint customer anymore but a Best Buy one with this weird plan they got me on that "saved" me money. $5 a month is not worth it for all this craziness I am now gong through!
Anyway, sorry to hijack this thread but I don't know if the screen issue relates to the random reboots people have been having but it seems that the first batch may have faulty CPUs according to another post. I really don't want to claim insurance because I want to be positive I don't get another phone that is the bad batch. I heard LG have been sending some people new phones so maybe I will try to go that route as the likely hood of them still having stock from the bad batch is less likely then Sprint or Best Buy.
This is the worst electronics purchase I have ever made!
It's not a listed known issue so sprint won't replace it unless you have TEP. If you do just take into a repair center and have then do all their tech crap and once they see its still rebooting randomly theyll replace it. My ATT one never did any of these stuff that sprint ones seems to be having issues with.. Makes me wonder about model numbers lol

So it started again this weekend and I think it is tied to the phone being hot. If I am running intense video play back or high graphics games it will happen. I have left everything stock just to test it out and it has returned. As long as the phone is cool then it doesn't happen but the minute it starts to warm up from prolonged screen use then the problem returns. FYI.... Hopefully the new one gets here today and doesn't have the same problem.
Newest Update. I have been discussing this issue on Facebook on the Sprint page because they don't seem to understand the difference between "Warranty" and "Insurance". They are seeing it my way but does bring to light the BS they are shoveling that you have to buy insurance on your devices for things that should be covered by a Warranty. They need to review their policies on this and make things easier on folks who have defective merchandise and aren't just clumsy with phones.

Wait I thought EVERYONE was having this issue. If you get the patch of visual "snow" on your screen occasionally, you're saying the phone should be replaced completely?
My phone also gets REALLY hot sometimes. Pretty annoying. Obviously tanks the battery
send device into LG
I had the same issue where the screen would get garbled, show different colors (pink/purple/blue/green etc..) all screwed up. The camera app would crash when I would constantly switch from front facing to rear facing camera. My device got really slow had to reset/reformat it a few times. I thought it was due to rooting it or whatnot. I don't think that was it. I think it was a bad batch. I sent it in to LG two weeks ago and got it back today. Their message back on the paper was replaced flash/memory.
They actually sent me a completely new device. I think the touch screen issues are gone as well as the original issue. This feels like a brand new device not part of a bad batch. I'm glad I sent it in. You should do the same. It's probably part of the same problem posted in this thread. I'm a happy camper now.
Warranty is covered by LG. Thus you go to LG after 14 days you need insurance to get sprint to replace it normally. There's no issue that's just how it works and the termology backs it.
Devices get it everyone in a while, the thing is when half the screen us garbled and it happens frequently

The issue I have is that I shouldn't have to pay insurance for a company to warranty something they sold me. If I didn't break the device then they should be the one to handle it for me with the manufacturer that they represent. I shouldn't have to go back to the manufacturer because they didn't sell me the device. If I had dunked it or broken it I agree I should have to pay out of pocket but that's not what happened.
This answer explains it and since I am already paying Sprint for cell service I shouldn't have to be inconvenienced as the customer to get a warranty item taken care of.
http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview/id/440497.html
A Google answers thread isn't policy. Sprint guaranteed the phone to work in the first 14 as per policy. The warranty you're claiming is a manufacturing one, not sprints warranty. It's lgs warranty for a year.
Sent from my LG-D800 using XDA Free mobile app
Here's a straight answer to your issue with warranty vs insurance.
THE WARRANTY IS THROUGH LG. They are the only ones who guarantee the phone to work for a year.
Sprint Asurion insurance: Will cover your phone for 2 repairs/replacements for free in a year, after that 25 dollars a repair or replacement, and if you have a lost, stolen, water damaged, or cracked display over an inch will be a deductible.
If you don't have TEP, then after 14 days Sprint will not cover replacements for your device UNLESS its a KNOWN ISSUE. As of right now, Sprint doesn't have anything officially listed as known issue till LG admits they have a problem and work out a deal with sprint to pay for the replacements.
You're arguing that Sprint has to honor LG's warranty, which is simple not the case. If that was the case Sprint wouldn't offer insurance at all.
I appreciate your take on things and having been with other more expensive carriers the question of insurance is a matter of perspective. With At&t within the first year they will just swap the phone out. Now this may be because they charge you more for their service and as they see it they would rather reduce the hassle and take care of the device with the manufacturer. With Sprint they have chosen to try and compete on a price model that requires that they charge for insurance as they don't have the money built into the plans to cover these sorts of issues. They may never admit that openly but in seeing how the two companies have addressed similar issues that would be the appearance of it.
Either way I now know that if it want to have anything close to the device coverage I had with At&t then I have to pay for Sprint "Insurance" so be it.
I am having the vertical split screen issue as well...it's just started happening and I am up to 1 month of ownership. Where is the best place to go to inquire about an LG warranty replacement?
I have been rooted and using custom ROMs for over a year now on my note 4 but recently started having my TekXodus ROM crash occasionally. So I updated to the factory latest DOK2 using Kies and I have an issue where when I reboot or shutdown. When i do this I have to pull the battery out for a few minutes before it can boot again. I have tried factory restoring with Kies several times and still have the same problem. Root + custom ROMs also have the issue. Any ideas?
Similar problems in another thread. I'm still having issues although I've gone back to stock as well.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-tmobile/help/note-4-major-slowdown-bugs-boot-loops-t3311297
People are starting to pop up everywhere with this issue, ROM's, stock, rooted, it doesn't seem to matter. It seems like it's either a software update they pushed to all carriers or maybe hardware failure of some kind. The batteries do seem to go bad fairly regularly around 9-12 months. That's fixable with that Anker 2x + wall charger kit, but if it's hardware failure for this it could get ugly.

My phone died completely after a week of ongoing problems. Won't boot or anything any longer and I don't think its software related.. Let me know if you have any success picking up and installing a motherboard.
My Note 4 I bought a year ago was having this issue a couple months ago. Did the usual, factory reset, blah blah blah, was getting the mmc read fail error. Called tech support told them everything I did because I knew they would want me to do it so I headed them off at the pass. They said well it seems you did all the work for us and I had a replacement the next day for $5. Worked fine for 2 months and now it's doing it again so I'll be calling for another replacement tomorrow.
Strange thing is I wasn't getting the same mmc read fail error although I saw something similar only 1 time. This time though I did get a dm-verity verification (?) error. No idea what that even means.
What sucks is they really should offer me an upgrade at this rate but I have no interest in the Note 5 or the S6 without an sd slot or removable battery. Hoped to hold on to my N4 for at least another year.
where can we even buy motherboards for this note 4?

So I am looking to purchase a refurb G4 (or Note 4) for T-Mobile as I'm moving away from Verizon and wondering just how bad and the likelyhood of the boot loop issue actually happening on the G4 at this point? Anything I should ask the seller that might indicate the refurb G4 will be less likely to have the boot loop issue occur?
Thanks for any info in advance. Much appreciated.
So i just gotbmy phone back from lg. It bootlooped. Bought on ebay so had no reciept. I filled out form on lg site and sent phone in. Got it back it about 10 days total. Phone i sent them had bootloader unlocked which it said on boot screen in top corner but it didnt seem to matter as they fixed it anyway. Only problem i heard is if it has physical damage like a cracked screen they will not repair phone. Mine was a version 1 built 06/2015 this seems to be the biggest g4 with bootloop issue
Thanks for the quick response. Just wondering does the G4 have the same overheat issue like the G3 has? Like does your G4 get warm around the back when doing a moderate amount of activity like say checking Facebook and using Bluetooth to listen to music?

yes it gets hot like in the top like behind camera.. and the most recent G4 i heard of bootloop was 604
this is the first 3 digits of serial number... 604 means .. 6 year 201(6) and 04 its month april... so 604 means april 2016...
try getting from 6XX the higher the better i think..it was supposed to be fixed since 510 but they still bootloop..
so as long as you have warranty and to be in the safe side a locked bootloader...
no using bluetooth doesnt get that hot only when doing facebook app. and other stuff.. recording seems to get hot...

Thanks so much for the tip on the serial number. I sent off an e-mail asking the company I might purchase the G4 from if they got any with the serial number starting with 6. From what was mentioned earlier in this thread and a few other mentions it seems like LG isn't being picky on the bootloader being locked/unlocked when it comes to fixing this let alone if the phone is in warranty.
Just trying to debate between getting a refurbished G4 or Note 4 so this might help me sway towards the G4.

well i just unlocked mine yesterday.. and yeah try getting the higher number the better 6XX. good luck..
Not sure how to check for model number, us that in the Fastboot?
Just chiming in to say my girlfriend's lasted maybe 3 months and died in the boot loop. No amount of factory resetting could get it to stop and had to send it back to LG. Just got her "new" one back a couple ago ago, so we'll see how this one fairs. Not particularly happy with the G4 so far compared to how good the G2 was.

I replaced my D851 with an H811 about 6 months ago (602 serial #). I use it outdoors with an air temperature of > 110°F. I set an alarm for 125°F and it was going off frequently. So far so good, no bootloop even with the high temps. My Samsung S4 shuts down under similar circumstances. My LG Marquee died a few years ago due to the heat. I can't deny others have had issues but my G4 rocks.
With this update no longer able to use the ZVBTOT as it is lower then the current version. LGUP gives the error message and phone reboots to system. Another door closed on the G4.
Not paying attention I thought I was only updating to ZVC. When I checked the screen to if any progress had occurred; I saw same message the update was downloaded etc.... In my haste I thought I had not started the ZVC update, so answered yes and slept in the recliner too tired to get to the bed.
Got a rude awakening today while trying to go back again to MellowMallow_LS991ZVB_v1.04. After attempt bombed out with error message, I checked to see what was happening - I have ZVD instead of ZVC which did work with the ZVBTOT.
ZVD closes another door. There may be another way around it, but I haven't found it.
A plus for the ZVD is my phone only used about 5% power during the time I was sleeping. usually I wake up to a phone with 30-45% left.
hope this helps someone avoid going down this path.

I was forced down this path by bootloop and LG repair practice of updating all repaired phones to latest firmware, posted about it yesterday.
I have noticed better battery performance too, that is the first thing I noticed. BUT I would sacrifice that for self-unlockability by global mellow-mallow rom.
A lot of people are anticipating the possibility of further news about a possible all-variant unlock/relock BL breakthrough, and if thats the case, hopefully there are enough devs left with G4 sprint interest.

As i am still on zv6. Dont know how this works on zvc or zvd.
But worth a shot
I think i tried that right after she upgraded it. Forgot to tell her not too when we got the replacement. First g4 bootlooped after 8 months.
I got the screen from amazon only screen with 12 positive reviews....teseko brand. Hope is good if its ok i might get one for my g3.
Running my g5 now, had it for about 5 month but only really used it as daily the past 2 month and my power button barely works. Went from acting up to almost not working in a few days. Getting fed up with lg.... The g3 was/is great....after about 2 almost 3 years my g3 just now has an issue where the screen doesnt respond that great...as in i try to scroll up but it clicks the page......
The g4 (my wife's) bootlooped after 8 months. My g5 has the power button issue after 2 months..... I wonder if i replace the screen on her g4 how long it will last till it bootloops..... Or if my g5 will too.
I think at some point i will have to switch over to galaxy or something else. As much as i like both g4 and g5 the quality is just way too too bad.
Anyways im venting......but....
Thank you for all the tips..... Hopefully a way is found eventually.[emoji4]

Since i am replacing her screen i am going to do that too (thermal paste)... Too bad i cant root it it for tether but oh well.
I think i will fix the g5 myself and use it or fix the g3 and keep the g5 as backup. Sprint did away with the bestbuy 2 year upgrade and their online 2 year is not the best of deals so.....who knows. Cant leave sprint though....service has always been great, my old truly unlimited plan is crazy compared to whatever they have now anywhere.. Just under 300$ for 6 lines unlimited data.....only got one warning letter when i forgot my home cell phone playing a romanian radio station on high bitrate for like the whole month.....used about 300gb and they sent a letter for that line....i checked and i was like what a moron i am...
