Z3C - Hardware - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Help, I need one component, chip size 0201 , probably resistor. Check images
Component next to it is resistor, I measured resistance of 1K5, but this component is missing and I don't know what is it and what value. Is there anybody who has opened or teared down Z3C unit to check this component what is it? This component was probably smashed during screen replacement (cable disconnection), and probably cause why touch is not working after screen replacement.
Sorry, I can't post links, so I will try to camouflage it (remove minus characters from link)

Diamond replacement part

Hi mates,
please don't ask me why and how but I broke the wire that connects the gps antenna inside my diamond. I just pulled it to hard and the micro-wire got out of the micro-connector on the top. I suppose I am not able to fix it without buying a new cable or the entire gps module (the one that is in on the top part of the diamond). Unfortunately i don't really know where to get that replacement, could anyone help me ?
Thanks in advance
what country are you
you need to find your local htc repair center
South of Italy. The HTC repair center is in Milan (800Km far from here) for sure, but I don't want to send my mobile to the repair center, I would like to buy the part and fix it by myself. I can't stay 1 month and half without my beloved phone. So it would be nice if I could buy the gps module (or even better the little wire with the roundend metal micro-connectors.. I am sure there is something similar in thousands other phones).

help replacing digitizer

So, middle of of screen is dead, it just died one day, so now I'm looking at a digitizer on eBay, but I just realized I don't want to f**k up my phone trying to fix it.
Any one able to help in any way?
(If you're in Florida, able to physically help? There's a Google Wave invite in it for you.)

Dead as in no touch function or dead as in nothing appears? Unless you are VERY skilled (and I take it, you are not), you will not be able to replace a digitizer and not many places will offer a service that you require. Not only the digitizer needs to be adhered to the LCD properly, the flex needs to be soldered. My advice is to purchase the entire LCD/digitizer assembly, I know it's more expensive, trust me, those digitizers on eBay are not cheap for nothing, no matter how tempting it may seem, it will save yourself a lot of headache and trouble if you'll just replace the whole thing.

[Q] [SERVICE MANUAL] Milestone/Droid A853/A855

I've got a broken Micro-USB connector on my Motorola Milestone and i'm looking for a service/disassembly manual.
Anyone has one / know where to find one?
This is pretty much all that I can find: youtube.com/watch?v=dE81IaQHEHc
Pretty useful, but not 100% clear.
Thanks in advance.
I would like a copy of the service manual too.
This is the best disassembly guide I have found.

Not that I'm against DIY repairs, but is there any reason why you aren't just warranty replacing the phone?
It's MUCH more reliable, and you don't have to get your hands dirty with solder and etc.

Well I have broken my USB connector: 2 of the pins have gone to far in to the phone and its now shorting out my power adapter.
I can't reach it using tweezers so I am hoping to disassemble the phone and push them back from the other side.
I did an inquiry to Motorola about this issue with my USB connector and this was they're reply:
We are sorry you are experiencing a fault with your Motorola phone and due to this we would like to suggest that you send your phone to our repair centre.
Please contact Servicom/Dynafix: 0900 396 23 49 www.dynafix.nl
If you wish you can arrange a repair via a web based system, you can use the Solid Vision repair service: www.gsmreparen.nl (070 307 31 07)
If they can not help you, please let us know.
Please be aware that this repair will be out of warranty repair, please be advised that a quotation and a handling charge will be applied.

I did an inquiry to both firm's and the first one did reply they can't give any indication about the cost over the phone, the initial 'examination fee' is €37,40 (about $51) and you have to send your phone to them with insurance that another €8,60 (about $11) and if you THEN decide not to let it repair to them they charge for the return of the phone, so that makes a total of €46,- (about $63,-) just for them to take a look at it.
The second company responded to send an e-mail with my question but did not reply within 2 weeks, after some searching on they're website they charge a €29,75 'examination fee' + €13,95 return fee that adds up to about $72,- (for sending & returning)
Upon doing some research on the internet both company's have various issues with insanely high repair costs ($300+ for 2 year old phones), lost phones, long waiting time for repairs, claims that there was 'moist damage' so they can charge for the repair and poor customer service.
To make a long story short: if i can make a short guess and X = €10 (the cost of a new USB connector) the total cost would be:
Sending + Examination + Parts + Work cost + Return = Total
€8,60 + €37,40 + X + 1 hour (€40?) + €8,60? = €104,60 (~$144,-)
€8,60 + €29,75 + X + 1 hour (€40?) + €13,95 = €102,30 (~$141,-)
OR (an thats what I fear) if they were to replace the top part of the motherboard = €100,-? (~$140,-) that would add up to ~€200,- or almost $300,-
If anyone can give me a better price indication please let me know because I would like to have it repaired and still have further warranty.
The flimsy usb connector is a design defect. Motorola will replace the connector with a much sturdier one (no discrete pins) under warranty. One of the pins on my Droid 1 broke off; I got an RMA, sent to phone to a repair depot, and received the same phone back with a brand new connector. And I managed not to go into convulsions while waiting (3-5 day turnaround). NB: My phone was not rooted.

Thanks for your reply, it thought it was just me that had that issue, USB connector was not connecting properly just a few months after I purchased it (had to do the old 'pen under the USB cable trick' to get it to charge)
Also you touch a good point, mine has a different firmware and is rooted (and there is no way to change it back because I can't charge it) I heard they check it and don't repair anything under warranty because of unofficial software.
(or send you a bill afterwards)

AFAIK, Motorola won't repair any rooted phone under warranty. I'm afraid you're looking at a large repair bill that makes simply buying a new phone an attractive proposition. It's a shame because the Droid 1 and others with the original usb connector appear to have been rushed out the door without sufficient testing. A discrete pin connector in a flimsy D-shell on a device vulnerable to damage is a really stupid design decision. A proper connector costs little more in manufacturing quantities.
BTW, my phone was returned to me in as-new condition with the latest iteration of froyo installed.

[Q] Milestone repair/spare parts?

One day I was charging my Milestone via USB and I unplugged it. The USB pins came out with the charger. My carrier told me that it was user-induced damage and not covered by the warranty, as well as telling me that you can't replace the charging port, so I'd simply have to buy a new phone.
This was quite unacceptable to me, so I went around to cellphone repairing shops and none of them have been able to fix it. In fact, the most recent attempted fix has left the back panel ripped apart, too!
The phone was in perfect condition before.
So does anyone know where I can find this elusive charging port - is it so special to the milestone that I can't replace it with another phone's USB port? I also need international shipping. Yes, pigs fly.
I have a dead Motorola Droid.
It sure is the same charging port.
PM if you are interested, I can ship worldwide.

I see you're still trying to get your phone to work. I may take you up on the offer, but I'm going to try one last phone technician to see if he can fix it. If he can't, I'll find out if it's just because of the port or because of general incompetence. Then I might be able to take the phone off you. Thanks for the offer.
Hi I am looking for a motherboard for my milestone. I am from Germany. My Milestone has a water damage. The only thing that does not work is the touch.
I think if I were an undamaged motherboard in it have ,it work again.
Does your motherboard?
Dear Greetings from Germany Misch xD
won't you need a new touch panel as well? if ur mother board failed, how did u determine touch doesn't work?
Hi
Hmm I think that the motherboard is damage. Because it has water damage suffered.
but maybe I should first install a new touch. Although I think the honest, the motherboard is scrap.
Do you have to sell a Touch?
thx

[Q] HTC One charging port compatibility issue

Hello,
I live in India. I bought an HTC One from a seller on ebay, who has imported the phone from Hong Kong.
Few days ago, the phone's charging port stopped functioning properly. I took the phone to HTC Service Center to get the port repaired. But the repair person at the service center says that as the phone is from out of India, the charging port is not compatible with the one he has in stock.
He says he can put it in, but it may cause issues.
Can anyone please give me advice about this? What difference do connectors have and what issues can be caused due to this? The service centre guy says he cant say what issues may occur, anything may go wrong because of it...
Im sorry I know its a trivial question but I hoped that if anyone has any hardware knowledge about this, they could help me take a decision whether i should put in the "non-compatible" charging connector.
Thanks in advance

The charging connector is universal. Did you speak to the service rep or the technician?
Edit: are they doing it for free??

No, they are charging some amount, i guess some Rs. 500 or so
I spoke to the technician..
Try aftermarket repair there are also good technician can help you charging points are now same for all companies at least HTC won't use two different types

I'd say, don't go to an aftermarket technician. If HTC is taking only 500, get it done there. At least they'll disassemble and reassemble the phone the right way. Also, aftermarket parts aren't the same quality as the ones HTC will give you. I've bought an LCD assembly aftermarket, and there is a noticeable difference, between OEM and that (although it is 100% genuine, it just isn't as good)

I was considering taking it to an aftermarket repair centre but I had concerns about the way they handle the housing...unfortunately the HTC One is so difficult to open without damaging its outer body

So there wont be any issue about the non compatible charging port right? I will ask HTC guy to put it in then.
