Hello guys, My question is about these three devices' storage space.
I want to know if any one of these can handle files larger than 4gb. In other words, Are they formatted in NTFS or ExFat or Can they be formatted in NTFS/ExFat?
As Redmi's storage can be extended, first how much can it be extended and Is it possible to expand it with NTFS/ExFat formatted SD Card?
As Moto's supports expansion up to 128GB and as per my knowledge FAT 32 only supports partitions upto 32GB, So can it handle NTFS/ExFat Formatted Card?
If none of above is possible then do these support NTFS formatted ext. Hard Drive through OTG?
ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED as soon as possible, AS I WANT TO BUY A DEVICE as soon as possible.
SO GUYS PLEASE HELP, I REALLY NEED THE INFO.
PLEASE ANYBODY HELP Regarding same issues above, about devices like Redmi Note 3, K5 Note and Moto G4 Plus as soon as possible.
Ntfs/extfat is supported through otg

That's good news, Thanks for the help buddy :good: . Really appreciate it. Also Do you remeber how much internal memory was free in the beginning defaultly in your Zuk Z1?
And if you know anything about K5 Note, like if it's internal memory can hold files larger than 4gb? And if it supports NTFS/ExFat formatted card? Otherwise it's fine don't worry somebody else may help. :fingers-crossed:

What did you mean with Spanish? There is always a little bit space occupied by apps, pictures and other media. But 55gb is nearly true.

No I meant by the language used in phone like audiodateien, andere, erkunden. Sorry for misunderstanding.
And I meant was the full 54GB free fully from the beginning, like sometimes already installed apps occupy some space that's why?

Android collects and sorts different files. Audiodateien = audio files, andere = others, erkunden = explore. In the second picture you can see which total amount of space you can use. Nearly 56GB.

Out of 64 gb u get approx 54 gb free and z1 can handle any size file
Out of 64GB, you will get 54.69 GB and can copy any file without any size restriction. File transfer speed is also pretty decent since it uses Type C cable.

Just for info: The cable connector type doesn't have to do with the speed! There are also phones out there using TYPE-C, but only @ 2.0 speed instead of 3.0 like zuk z1. On the other hand, the zuk isn't quick charge capable, as the additional data lanes will be used for 3.0 speed and cannot used for quick charge modes.

I thought in read in the specs before buying this phone that it had 512 MB of RAM.
When I check in my task manager it says I only have 326 MB of RAM total..
Don't tell me we (Canadians) have less ram than everyone else??
it is not just the Canada version
all SGS phones have 512 of RAM but only 326 available for end users the rest are used by the phone services
Isn't it a 2.1 thing?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
The kernel supports up to 326MB RAM. Newer versions support full 512MB.
I guess when Froyo is out officially we will have full 512MB support.
Its sounds to me this phone was made for frayo and 2.1 is just each what they had to go with the Iphone 4 would have gotten alot of sgs customers If the galaxy didn't release when it did

That's another phone.. Doesn't mean much.
Our official news/press release said we have 512MB, so we have 512MB. Don't get too worried. Samsung may have decided simply to put the RAM to better use for now (to speed up other areas). Apparently, the epic uses a RAM disk to speed things up, so it's possible ours has a 160MB Ramdisk too

I am relatively new to android, but from what I have read on the internet Fascinate is simply another Galaxy S variant customized to Verizon, just like Captivate, Vibrant and Epic 4G, isnt it ?? Why would they mess around with the core components just for one carrier ?

I would like to believe that too , My only concern is Gingerbread compatibility. I know even if we have 512MB Gingerbread is not guaranteed. But 384MB means a definite no go , right ??

They added a flash for one... It might be to save money for the carrier. But, this variant uses EVDO which I believe is US only, and its possible they need more space on the circuit board too, for other features they add. Either way, our phone is advertised as 512MB.

Nobody knows. In the rumour world, there is a crapload of BS. Don't believe anything you hear unless Google says it directly (and publicly). Remember, Kevin Rose told us he SAW the iPhone before it was released, and it had multiple batteries. And that guy constantly says rumors (the only ones I see him ever get right are obvious ones or ones which have proof already if you know where to look). If rumors by idiots like him consume the the internet in hours, its easy for anyone else to do the same.
To the best of my knowledge, Google has never stated the RAM required.. That being said, the epic 4g apparently uses a 160GB RAMdisk to speed it up. It's possible our phone does the same (which explains the memory gap). But I have seen nobody prove or disprove whether we have 512MB of RAM which can be accessed by the OS. All I know is that Samsung have stated we do and haven't retracted it..

Don't blame me, I didn't even notice.. These forums should be thumbnailing the pics anyway
The photo is in line with previous speculation that the galaxy s has 384mb ddr(?) ram and 128mb onedram(fast ram dedicated to graphics??) / onenand(not actually ram??? 0_0) .. its all a bit confusing.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7642223
EDIT2: at first I was a little concerned, but after reading the other topics, I'm fairly reassured that the "ram issue" isn't really a bit issue at all, once compared to nexus one, desire etc.
SEMC seems to run a Sony Ericsson blog. And his post is mainly guesses, as with the others. Nobody has actually proven anything. However, the arguments against 512MB of ram are that 128MB is flash, and that Samsung don't know the difference between RAM and flash (which doesn't make too much sense, as they clearly differentiate between the two elsewhere).
Until proven otherwise, there is no reason to believe that we don't have 512MB of physical RAM.

I checked it as well, the Desire has 576 mb but it shows only 400 mb,
my old X10 has 384 but only shows 270 mb, it might be the kernel, but Ive read on a unreliable website that the rest was dedicated to the GPU just like a shared videocard on a Laptop...
Yeah, it's likely some is dedicated towards GPU and such, and it's likely to be OneDRAM. But, there doesn't seem to be any definitive proof..
iam sure its the kernel guys.. my old desire after flash mod kernel can get full 512mb and free memory up to 300mb using advanced task manager..
The Nexus 7 is Perfect all except for No Option For Removable Storage.
I am running out of space already in my Nexus 7. I already had to remove things to free up some space so I could continue installing things. I would like to double or even quadruple the amount of space. If there was a 64GB version I would buy it. BUT THERE IS NOT. So how do I get more storage? WITHOUT sticking an OTG cable hanging out the end. I would like permanent storage.
I spent the last 2 hours reading threads about it, but still am not sure if anyone has succeeded yet and how to do it.

Ooh, can I play too? Here's my mockup of what I'd like to have!
(Yep, worst chopjob evar)
Adding a (small) internal microsd card reader seems like a good idea to me. But the fact that the nexus 7 has curved edges would make it either stick out a bit, or go in to far. Unless having it added permanently(no way to take the card out, unless taking off cover).
I'd like to see a permanent solution for more storage, perhaps expanded memory chip?

Well, there is a solution for those that are less than 32GB...
Purchase a replacement 32GB motherboard from a repair site, or purchase a 32GB Nexus 7 with a destroyed display.
Swap it with your 8GB or 16GB board and you are all set.
As for going to 64GB? It's a matter of finding a pin compatible as well as software addressable replacement for the existing module as well as having the skills/equipment for it's replacement.
I'd wait until this fall and purchase a tab that has expansion if that's the need.
Of course it's possible, just not very probable. It would not only involve replacing the mem IC's (which would probably take a brain surgeon), but altering the kernel as well (I would think). There are 4 memory chips ( 8gb each on 32gb model) Their mislabeled in the pics as ram, and the pics are for a look at the magnetic induction IC for screen off fuction.

Sorry, but you've got the wrong chips!!
What you're looking at are the RAM chips. They are 256M bytes each and there are 4 chips for a total of 1GB RAM.
The flash memory chip is on the bottom of the board. There is only 1 chip and it's an 8GB, 16GB or 32GB chip.
That is the chip that would need replacing if you wanted to increase storage space on the Nexus 7.
Replacing the flash is not just a matter of changing an IC. The chips have protected areas that are essentially write once and there is information stored there like the serial number, UUID and other calibration parameters that are practically impossible to change without the proper test equipment.
It's cheaper just to sell your 8GB unit and buy a 32GB unit - unless you're an old-time hardware hacker like myself
One of my to-do's is to trace out the internal SD interfaces for the 3G card and missing SD card. I have a sacrificial N7 that I will be removing the CPU and other chips to do this on.
The original SD card interface is 4 data lines, a clock and a control line plus power and ground for a total of 8 lines.
Have a look at my rear camera hacking thread for the N7 schematics source and you'll get more technical info.
You are correct chip wise. But don't you mean Top of the board? Or were you referring to the underside?
The red one...

Phones now are way too expensive and OEMs are already trying their best leveling the features and have reasonable priced devices. Assembling all the latest techs on their flagship device would just end up having an very2x expensive device.
Would you pay for a phone which is more than $1000+ price for a pimped up specs?
Also the internal storage and sd cards on phone would not even come close to reaching the max transfer rates of usb 3.0 so it would be just as pointless.

Yep, I believe that the only reason or at least the main reason for why we don't have USB3.0 in phones and tablets yet is because current chipsets that get put in these devices simply don't support it.
But this will change very soon as Tegra 4 does support USB3 and so I am assuming that any future device that will come out powered by Tegra 3 will have USB3, and everyone else will try to catch up after that...

why do you think NAND bandwidth has to be equal to bandwidth of USB 3.0 for it to make sense? point is that USB 2.0 in real world get's us a around 30 MB/s mark while we could get let's say a 60MB/s with USB 3.0 and cut in half transfer time of large files. (from 5-6 min for 10GB using USB 2 to 2-3 min using USB 3). Isn't that enough to justify it?

Like how fast do you even get with a class 10 microSDXC? 6-8mb maybe? Way far from the 30MB/s speed capacity. I'd say you need at least a class 40 microSDXC card for you to require a USB 3.0 thing is the bottleneck of current phone storage right now is not the connector technology but the storage speed itself.

Which means that speed is only working if the microSDXC is formatted in exfat and you are using a UHS compatible adapter.
It's slower than the extreme pro version but it should reach 30mb/s

USB 3.0 would be useful to attach an external SATA 3.0 SSD/ dock.
The majority of the people don't have USB 3.0 yet. So I doubt any OEM is in a hurry to add that feature just so that a handful of people could actually use it.
I'd say maybe 2 more generations before we see that on a phone. Just a guess

I know that. But my point is Ultra version has the capacity to reach upto 30mb/s whereas extreme pro has 90mb/s but as you can see the data transfer is only capped at 4mb/s to 5mb/s.
Please do some research first with UHS technology before contradicting comments please. I have solid proof yet yours only are based on screenshots.
BTW I could reach transfer speed of up to 28mb/s with the same card if I format it into exfat filesystem and connect it directly to a USB 2.0 port. Like I said the limit is not the connector technology but the filesystem itself and card technology itself.
If that's how you look at things then feel free to call all the phone owners in the world apple fanboys cause everyone having a high end phone is only using USB2.0 technology. Go post on android general section so alot more expert users could enlighten you.
And if you still insist go buy one yourself and connect it on your android phone then try to reach the limitation of USB 2.0 with your extreme pro card.
Anyways believe on what you think is correct. It's too futile to explain very advanced explanations on a average user. Just try it to believe it :good:
And ohh... Just so you could do a comparison. Here's the same benchmark of the Ultra version.
As you can see it's on 30mb+ and not 4mb-5mb like the one I posted.

It would appear from some reports (based on an OEM marketing release from Samsung) that the Exyenos 5 Dual SoC will support USB 3 ... however this only refers to the Exyenos 5 Dual ... NOT the Exyenos Octa.
As for the USB people themselves ... http://www.phonearena.com/news/USB-...ging-transfer-speeds-of-up-to-800Mbps_id25569 raises hopes and then throttles expectations in one small article.
I think I'm going to wait until everyone offers the same hardware configuration before I rush out looking for something I'm very unlikely ever to need or use. After all, they're all (Exyenos, Snapdragon, Tegra, etc) based on ARM Cores and Nvidia and Qualcomm are already there. Thee Tegra 4 and the Snapdragon 800 are both capable of USB 3 support so the next Generation HTC will certainly have the processing power to do it ... whether they choose to implement it will, as always, be a market driven decision.

When I look at the XSP device info, the ram size 766 mb even though the phone is 1 gb
compared with another 1 gb ram phone, in the device info it says 971 mb, so that results in about 200 mb free extra memory in the second phone
I searched a lot and couldn't find anything about this.
Is there a way to make the Xperia SP show 900+ mb?
before anyone says that its system reserved, how come the second phone has a much smaller reserved value?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Second phone is Tengda T94 (chinese phone) the multitasking difference in the XSP cannot be compared to the T94, the T94 is so much better
its very frustrating to look around for a solution for a 1 gb ram phone! to get better multitasking!!! i feel like im looking for a solution for an entry android device. i love this phone i wish i can find a way to get better multitasking as its an important basic smartphone feature
I think its just bad ram management. My SP on CM10.2 works without problems
Shows about 841 mb (total)
Sony Software can't do this!

It is something to do with the kernel I think

there is nothing u could do in stock ROM unless u greenify everything + remove every bloatwares
but theres nothing wrong with the running ram, just let it filled... android is different alot than PC, in android the RAM is used to be filled, its normal... i remember some XDA members said that "unused ram is a wasted ram"
MAYBE, sony intented to do that to limit the apps prosessing

well i found the answer, this 250 mb of ram that is hidden is reserved for the gpu as i read on some article.
and there could be a way to amend that a little bit through some kernel.
im now disappointed and thinking about replacing this phone as multitasking is very poor and its a basic feature of a smart phone.
its strange to see a chinese phone that is 110 usd faster with better multitasking and even the screen quality and gaming is better! why cant a top company like sony do something to give access to the 1 gb ram which is very needed for basic use

don't think more Ram will get you faster, new chips it is ..( bigger Cpu Cache, bigger GPU, Dual channel memory )
sony need those 200mb for gpu, because it's a multimedia hd phone and gaming phone ( 320 gpu like xz :fingers-crossed: )...so you get hd movie recorder , hd games, even you can trow this to hd tv ...
i have this $200 chinnese quadcore with msm8225 , 203 gpu,1Gb ram ... and i believe xsp faster than this chinnese quadcore
and this phone don't have NFC, can't play full hd movie, lags on hd games, can't record full hd movie, no os update, and the list will go on ...
antutu about 13k on this chip, on quadcore mediatek chip about 16k, xsp about 21k ... you tell me who is the fastest ...
so, don't bother what is show on bench, user experience is...

Please no more chinese phone jokes,
unless you found one with a Snapdragon 600/800 etc, the GPU performance is in those 110 USD chinese "Super phones" is very poor.
Not even comparable to the Adreno 225 let alone 320.

Haha,my friend has a sgs4 and that has 2gb ram and 1.81 user accesible. At times his phone has 700-900 mb free...so dont complain
Phone is very good. And i honestly believe that another 100-150 MB of ram wouldnt make any difference...They would in my previous xperia X8 which had 27MB free ram all the time...But when you have 350+ free as i do now, being 500 wont change a thing.
With 250 EUR i got a phone with almost the performance of xpZ (yeah cause of 720 screen but its ok for me ) that wont slow down on everything you throw at it.So dont complain about the little missing RAM which as said is not wasted but is being used but for the GPU.:good:
Sandisk Dual USB Drive (16, 32, and 64 GB)
*edit* - I just ran across a post about this very same device right here on XDA. Somehow while searching i completely missed it until after I posted this. It is a very good review by shhbz, very detailed, check it out here.
*edit#2* - Here are the benchmark results for the Sandisk Dual USB Drive -
Computer side: Read 20.7 MB/s & Write 7.4 MB/s
Phone Side: Read 16.89 MB/s & Write 9.71 MB/s
(These benchmarks were performed using "Gnome Disk Utility" for the computer side and "A1 SD Bench" for the phone side.)

I'm not sure how many of you are aware of this handy little device but for those of you who are not, here is a little information.
I recently discovered this tiny thumb drive, pen drive, flash drive, whatever you want to call it, at my local Wal-mart while looking for a DVI to HDMI cable. I already own several flash drives, however, the difference between the ones I own already and this one is that I can plug this one directly into my phone. It functions as a flash drive for your phone much the same as it does for your pc, and for LG G2 owners, USB OTG (On The Go) support is already built in so it's basically plug and play.
Now, if your like me, many of you here are flash happy addicts. Well that is where this little drive can come in quite handy. On my drive I have several different ROMs, multiple kernels, nandroid backups and even a few GAPPS packages saved. I also have the stock KK baseband and a flash-able version of LG's camera app. You never know when those files might come in handy and all you have to do is reach in your pocket, pull out this tiny drive and plug it into your phone. Of course you could always just save all that to your phones memory but some of those files can quickly add up, taking up valuable space that you would rather use for other things. This could also prove to be a life saver for those with little internal memory and no sd card slot or while in the middle of that long flight from.......well, i think you get the idea.
If your not on a LG G2 or would like to use this drive on another phone Sandisk has a list of supported devices on their website. Most or many high end phones support USB OTG and there are many apps that help with that as well such as Chainfire's StickMount. Of course you will have to have a rooted phone to use that app. And then there is the official Sandisk app Memory Zone which is available free on the app store. I mention the official app last because personally I don't care for it and it doesn't really suit my needs. But don't get me wrong, it is a great app and it makes transferring files from your phone to the USB drive very easy. I just prefer to use a file explorer to move the files I want.
If you choose to go the route I did and you are using a LG G2 then the USB drive will be located in the root directory under storage/usb/. Also one other tip, when using this or any other USB drive with your phone make sure you un-mount the drive in settings/storage before unplugging it from your phone. You may be able to get away with just pulling it out but the proper way is to un-mount it first and in certain situations you can run into problems if you decide to skip that step. When plugging in the USB drive it should automatically mount itself but if not you can also mount the drive the same way. And if you choose you use the Sandisk app, plugging in the drive to your phone will automatically launch the app.
The Drive comes in three different sizes, 16, 32 and 64 GB ( 2.0 only no 3.0 ) with prices ranging from $19.99 - $49.99.
This drive has been quite convenient for me and so i'm sure it can be just as useful to many of you, that is why i decided to post this. I'm just trying to give a little back to a forum and community that has given so much to me.
For the size its pretty expensive
You can also try one of these http://www.dx.com/p/kingmax-kotgr-0...sd-card-reader-otg-to-usb-reader-black-329494
And using a 64gb sdxc for less. The speeds would also be better because we know sandisk are not the fastest in any sort of storage.
Theres a thread further down discussing them.
But yeah cool device looks nicer than my cheap white one. Can you benchmark it through sd tools andnfive us speeds
i have 32gb sandisk - nice little thing, makes usb otg backups as easy as 123...
read/wrize speeds are good too (it takes around 380sec to backup/restore 3gb)
and it's small

Yes the price is a bit steep when compared to other flash drives but it does eliminate the need for a OTG cable which saves $5 to $10 dollars. Even then its still a bit more expensive then a regular flash drive of comparable size. But you are also paying for convenience when you by this drive.
As far as speed go, being 2.0 its not the fastest. Technically it should be capable of speeds around 30 MB/s however most users report speeds closer to between 15 to 20 MB/s. I haven't bench-marked this drive myself yet but will be doing so very soon and will post my results here.

Computer side: Read 20.7 MB/s & Write 7.4 MB/s
Phone Side: Read 16.89 MB/s & Write 9.71 MB/s
I also posted these results in the main post up top.
btw this stick is so user friendly made that it wouldn't bother me even if it had 5mb read/write...
just makes things simpler (especially backups and huge file transfers between pc and phone)
looks like Kingston makes something similar too, seems to be a little cheaper (at least on amazon). not sure if R/W speeds are comparable as i didn't look that far into either. labeled as the "Data Traveler MicroDuo"
i've seen several lookalikes on ebay when i was buying mine but for me the sandisk is no1 choice

Microduo 16gb? Are you talking about the 16GB SanDisk dual sub drive? If so I'm not sure why it would be heating up. Is your phone also hot at the same time? If so the dual usb drive may be acting like a heatsink for your phone. But that is just a guess.

i also don't have heat problems with my 32gb sandisk dual usb otg... what i wouldn't mind on that stick is some kind of a led light to indicate it's alive when it's connected
i've noticed the heat only on my transcend regular usb stick when it's connected to any device a bit longer... (this one: http://uk.transcend-info.com/products/images/ModelPic/359/gb_csuJF_spec_JFT3S_110819.jpg )
Meenova seems the best way to go for the G2. I have one and it is a lot smaller than the sandisk, which is what I personally prefer.
http://www.meenova.com/ :good:
sandisk is about 3cm big (1 inch), so it's not an elefant
not that i have it always connected to the device so the size of it doesn't bother me...
i usually connect it once a week to make a twrp backup, phone sits on the table in that time, and i disconnect the usb 5 minutes after...
i think i'd probbably lose it easier if it was even smaller
btw sandisk has both full size usb and micro usb connector in one unit which makes pc to phone file transfers easy as hell... and file transfer speeds of sandisk are quite good (takes around 400-450 seconds for 4 gig backup)
i didn't see meenova with both connectors (or i missed that)
yes - meenova is a looker

don't know about that, i use it for backups and file transfering only...
but it should be ok because read/write speeds are above 10mb/s (320kbps mp3 is 1/3 of a megabyte per second)
it should even handle mkv video files without a problem (although i didn't test yet because i don't use it for this)
suggest me a reliable and trustworthy otg benchmark app and i could test it for you (sandisk dual otg i mean)
