Broken screen - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
The screen of my Xperia z3c broke today. Is there a way to repair it? Should i buy a new smartphone? Is it possible to fix it by myself?
Thank you in advance

Yeah there is a way,it isn't hard but again it ain't easy

You can have look at some z3c screen replacement videos at YouTube and decide if you're up for it yourself. You could also pay someone else to do it or buy a new phone. If you decide to give it a go yourself I'd recommend getting an original, or good copy, screen replacement. For a z3c I would not get any of the screens with a pink piece of protection plastic on the back of it.

Cracked Screen

Hey,
Just looking for some advice where I should go for a cheap solution on how to fix my phone. Basically, everything still works great! Apart from the big crack, the screen doesn't seem to have been damaged (eg. All the pixels look fine, touch still works, only glass/plastic panel is cracked)
I'm actually really impressed by how it took such a hard hit and the device works fine, the screen didn't even smash! Basically it nudged in between my car seat where you close the door, didn't realise it fell out my pocket and closed the door (you could imagine it would be a hard hit) and the phone lives.
If I just needed the glass replaced, can it be done DIY? Or should I not bother and give it to a service centre? I got it from 3 but I know they'll probably overcharge me for something like this..
Any suggestions welcome, thanks!
if the damage is only to the exterior screen then you may want to consider getting this:

be carful! the screen from my firlfreidns diamond is broken too and I had ordered one of those touchscreens... but the screen which comes has no "window" for the frontcamera and after disassembling the phone I saw that it is NOT POSSIBLE to remove the touchscreenglas from the frame.
Replacement LCD & Digitiser
I recently replaced an lcd and digitiser on a HTC Touch Diamond. I bought the complete screen (lcd & digitiser) as one pre-assembled unit from a guy on Ebay (£34.99). Fits straight into the front of the unit frame. I don't think you can remove just the digitiser because it is stuck onto the LCD, and the LCD itself is very fragile. Disassembly is fairly straight forward if you've got the right tools.
Thanks for all your help guys! I've just been bogged down with work so havn't been able to get back here for awhile.
I've taken some time to look into the webiste and others, decided to just order it off ebay in the end anyways. However, taking note from the previous 2 posts, would I be wasting my time ordering just the digitiser itself? I would assume that's what HerrVorragend also meant by "that it is NOT POSSIBLE to remove the touchscreenglas from the frame."
If so, why do they bother selling them online separately? I guess I won't really find an answer, just seems stupid to me. Anyways, guess I'm stuck purchasing both LCD + Digitiser but as a final question, does anyone have any guidelines as how I should replace this myself? I'm very paranoid about this sort of thing because it's only 1 month old, however, I have also replaced an LCD on my old Nokia 6280 before using a step-by-step picture guide online.
Don't think I'd have much luck finding one for this model, hey.. haha.
Once again, thanks!
Double posted, sorry.

If you google for HTC Diamond Service Manual, that will help greatly with assembly and disassembly - there are also a couple of videos on Youtube. From my experience the most tricky part is re-connecting the two flex connectors when you re-install the main board. I use the back of a pair of tweezers to slide underneath the connector carefully. If you are nervous about doing it and happy to cover postage costs, I can replace the LCD for you - PM me for details and I'll see what i can do.

smashed screen repair question

Hi I accidently smashed the screen of my xperia z last night whilst out. There is a large crack and under the crack the screen has turned black (see picture included) and I am unable to use the touch screen of the phone any more. I was wondering whether I'd be best sending my phone off to sony, trying to get it fixed in a local repairs shop, or whether it is actually beyond repair. Any advice would be much appreciated.
I did it on myself but I shouldn't recommend you this way... The disassembly procedure is a pain. Ordered a new screen for around 150$, then I broke the back screen trying to open it. Finally my microphone broke too when I removed it and I am still waiting for a new one 4 weeks after ordering it. At the end it cost me 200$ (ordered a battery too, because I doesn't want to change it again too soon! )

[Q] Digitizer

Hello everyone, got a sony z1 from a mate for free but there's a liltle crack on the digitizer, has anyone bought one from ebay so far ? post your review and if you have any links it is appreciated Have a nice day
There is a plenty of Digitizers on eBay and most of them are not Genuine, I also don't think so many people replaced they screens to let you know which you have to buy. Just check and ask the seller if you see a good deal.
BTW, do you know that you have to have a good skills to replace it?
I bought mine from www.witrigs.Com Find a couple different YouTube guides and take your time. It really isn't that hard of a repair but you will need the heat gun. Make sure you also order all the seals for putting the device back together.

Do you want to DIY repair?
It is very hard to only replace the digitizer part, even for the guy who has professional skill.
The digitizer and screen are glued together tighlty. So I think you have to replace the screen with digitizer part.
BTW, witrigs.com is a good website. You can find original part and repair guide. Good Luck.

Replace only digitalizer on Z3+/Z4

I have a Z3+ where the digitizer cracked by itself while laying on the table beside me. I cant use the phone anymore. Screen is still perfectly fine but touch is not working.
I contacted Sony and it turns out to be to expensive to fix at a repair shop. Is it possible to change this myself? A Digitizer is only ~10$ on Ebay but I cant find much information on how to change it.
The only video I found is this, but its not very clear:
Xperia Z3 Digitizer Glass Only Replacement

Does anyone have any experience on doing this and could give me some informaiton?

It's Xperia Z thread, but my advice is to buy digitalizer and touch together and replace them. I tried to change just touch on my XZ and i broke digitalizer, as I read through the net and find that Sony made it nearly impossible to remove touch from digitalizer. If you don't have equipment and skills it's best to replace them together.
Good Luck!

Thank you! I think buying the full screen + touch is a bit to pricey for me. its around 100-120$, not worth it for me since I can fail to mount it and loose more money. I just wanna give changing digitizer a shot before I throw the phone in the garbage can.
I am thinking of taking it apart and see if I can separate the digitizer first, if I succeed I will order a new one and put on top.

Oneplus 3T Screen Cracked (Not Digitilizer), have Assurant, should I use it?

Hey Everyone
As the Title says. Just Cracked the OP3T Screen. Touch works on all spots, the screen protector that came with it is keeping the shards of glass coming out.
What do you guys suggest I do? Is it a good use of the insurance I bought it with to replace the screen? Seems like its cheap on Ebay. I don't know how hard the glass screen protector would be to replace, but I've taken apart blackberries and my laptop before and replaced parts.
Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.
Why did you even pay for the insurance if you don't want to use it? I'm pretty sure that if you replace the screen yourself, and then try to claim the insurance for something else in the future, they'll just send the phone right back to you when they notice that it's been repaired. I'd go with the insurance.
Go with the insurance. Should be "free", no?
