Is there any way to enable usb tethering on our device, but to get internet from a pc? Currently, usb tethering is for sharing data to another device. Can we reverse it somehow?
You want to use the Internet from a computer on the phone?

use wifi adoptor to make as hot spot via windows
nothing seems impossible. I tried but could not get any results. Where it comes from the Internet to your computer? Is it over Ethernet?

According to the manual on page 53, it is described, that you can share your mobile data, through usb cable to another device (windows pc). I guess this is feasible, but I am not interested on this. I am interested in reversing this operation, and get internet via usb cable to my phone - from my pc, because my wifi antenna is not working at all. Currently, I am using my pc internet adapter to connect with the router, so I cannot turn my pc a wifi hot-spot.
I researched earlier. I found an app called PdaNet. benefit your business. There is a lot of sites and videos Turkish origin.

Thanks . I'll check it out, although I was waiting for a patch file or something like that.

I tried this method but no success. Terminal emulator gave some kind of error (i don't know).
Bad argument "route". You should try and see if it's working.

Does anyone know if this follow scenario is possible?
I want to connect the phone up to my computer via BT or the USB cord, and then the phone will connect via WiFi (802.11b/g) to a wireless router. Can this be done?
Thanks in advance.

Yes. It can be done with a program like wifi internet sharing. I have not used it myself, but NRG has it in his newest rom. You will want to link up with the usb cord because anytime I have wifi and BT going at the same time (internet wifi and BT headphones) there is a conflict. I have also heard that it isn't a great program, but you can find out for yourself. Hope that helps.

Here ya go!
I have to say that it does work. Im using NRG latest Energy rom, july 29, and i can share the internet from my fone to the laptop through wifi and connect the laptop to the internet. basically the fone works like a router... or u can also connect and share internet through usb... it seems to work just a lil bit faster.
I'm not sure how else to explain this. I'm NOT looking to use the cell phone's data plan. I AM looking to use the phone as a usb wireless (802.11b/g) adapter for the computer.
Anything like this?
The Wifi internet sharing is attempting the use of the data plan (no good for my situation).

use WIFImoster...
its wifi to usb mode is awesome. it will try to pick up a free hotspot first, but you can manually connect to a wpa/wep secured network and then launch it, works like a champ everytime.

Try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=377047
u can always try to "obtain" a copy of wmwifirouter
This is just my opinion. It might be wrong!
If you've a computer that can connect to your cell phone with Bluetooth.
I'm quite sure that the computer must have Wifi function also.
Why you want to do some easiest thing to be much more complicated!
@navi_mapper:
Not always; I've seen some laptops with a Bluetooth only card, a WiFi only card, and Bluetooth/WiFi combo cards.
It likely the purchaser may not have chosen a combo option or the laptop came with Bluetooth only. Worst case, the laptop may have shipped with a legacy WiFi device and is too costly to replace.
Cheers,

PC Desktops rarely have wifi on the internal mobo. Also, I want as many options as possible with this phone. It's the best yet!

Note that there are early versions of WMWifiRouter (up to V.91, IIRC) still available that were released without encumberance. While it might not be Chainfire's preference, it's not exactly discussing "warez" to use an older version. Granted - the person you're cautioning seems to be insinuating that you get a cracked version...
I recommend paying for it, though - the supported paid version is a lot more reliable (and you can actually uninstall it without borking your network setup). It also offers a very nice USB-to-Wifi interface. I think the free ICSControl offered elsewhere on this forum does the same (USB-to-Wifi), but in my brief experience with that program it was not as reliable as WMWR.

Thanks. Didn't know that about the older versions of WMWR. I may save up for the $30 that it'll drain my treasure horde.
wifi router not seen by some computers
any ideas why wifi router works on some of my computers but not others. I am using it right now, but my computer downstairs does not see it at all. Have same issue at work some computers see the wifi signal some do not. Seems to be a windows security setting? Works great on computers that see it.
Hi, I am using the latest version of Cyanogen on my nexus.. Just wondering how to get tethering to work via USB on my mac? As there is no WIFI option :S

Which could just as well mean that wifi is not a option for him, and the subject asks if usb tethering is an option.
May I also suggest not using the word moron or spending time on creating dumb links, based on your resoponses i will assume you have had your fair share of internet arguments, and unless you are about 11years old you should be tired of them. Im just suggesting that if you are a bit nicer, there is the possibility of avoidinh internet argument alltogether (unless you of course enjoy them in which case i suggest going to the wow-forums).

I don't think you can. My MacBook can see the Nexus connected as a USB device but there are no modem services attached to it. We may need a OSX driver for USB tethering to work.

There is no driver for the tethering on osx.
USB Tethering needs something called 'Remote NDIS' or something like that, don't remember exactly. OSX doesn't have any drivers for that, while Windows and Linux does. Once in a while I searched for that when trying to tether with my windows mobile phone, looks like a few projects were started to get a driver for it, but I haven't found a completed one yet.
I am scheduled to Deploy to Iraq later this fall and will be taking my trusty N1.
In Iraq you pay an incredible amount of money for the internet it is something like $75 for 96k. One on the down falls is you link up via cat5. I had my HTC Touch Pro last time and I was able to update data etc surf the internet using active sync via miniusb while it was plugged in to my laptop. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
Not sure if this will work on the N1 (do any custom ROMs support ad-hoc WiFi?), but worth a shot: http://modmymobile.com/forums/491-jailbreak-root-access/544146-connect-g1-ad-hoc-network-solved.html (skip to "Step 3" for instructions on changing the tiwlan.ini file).
P.S. Needs root for obvious reasons.
If you run Windows 7 check out www.connectify.me It will turn your current connection into a wifi access point on through your computer's wireless device

Thanks for that link, I'll have to try it out!
[Edit]
Unfortunately Connectify's Access Point mode is only supported on a limited number of WiFi cards, as seen here. My fairly new (1 year old) Lenovo X61 Tablet can only do Ad-Hoc, which still requires modding the wpa-supplicant on the N1. At that point Connectify becomes useless, since you can enable ICS in Windows on your own.
sweet and thanks. i am using this in-flight on gogo so i have access to two devices and only pay for one.
Sorry you are having issues, but yea not all cards are supported. Luckily, both my desktop and laptop have been compatible. My laptop initially had issues because I was not on the newest drivers for the wireless card. If your card isn't directly listed on the unsupported list, it might be worth it to try and upgrade drivers and test one more time.
Unfortunately I am running Xp on my laptop.

The first link is a guide for setting up an ad-hoc connection on Windows XP, the second is a link to a change to the Android source code that's been abandoned 2 months ago.
The good news is that according to the comments on the 2nd link Google is working on implementing Ad-Hoc support. The bad news is that it's not in FroYo, so we might have to wait for Gingerbread to see it. Of course, there's nothing preventing CyanogenMod team from implementing this change into CM6, so they would be the best people to ask about it.
In the network settings on my mac you can 'broadcast' your connection. The tutorial I read showing me how to do that said windows has a similar feature.
You can use travel router and setup internet sharing...
Source: you have to right-click the connection source->properties->advanced and setup the internet sharing.
Destination: If you have a spare ethernet jack, GOOD! Use it.
I know some Ralink-based wifi cards support virtual AP mode (the best bet are Hawking and Asus and I have both).
Is it possible to use my PC internet connection via USB on my SGS? If it is how can I use it?
Short answer. No

I think you go it the wrong way...
Almi88 needs an application to take internet from the computer to use it on the phone because he doesn't have a wireless connection available.
I looked into this for ages as i missed it from winmo activesync days. And no you can't do it. There's some ways but at end of day its complex as u need to set up proxy servers and bunch of other stuff. That's by i said in short no.
yes then WiFi is a lot easier
I usually share my Internet connection through Connectify and my HD2 had no problems connecting at all. However I am unable to detect the signal even on my Gnote. Does anyone else have this problem?
Make sure there is an access point when u connect using connectify.
