hey, I'm here spamming with questions again.
1. is the back panel a gorilla glass 4? or just glass/sodalime glass/whatever else?
2. I think the battery in my note 5 is in bad condition. I have installed an app called Battery Doctor and when I charge it to 100% it says that the charge is 1750mAh. Clearly it is not even close to the 3000 the battery is rated at. The previous owner kept it under the charger for full 2 months, I guess that could be the reason its dying. I wanna know if the back is protected somehow because I dont wanna break it when I open it up, the edges are curved and I think theyre the weakest point of the cover.
3. is there a way to "heal" a battery that is in bad condition like mine? I tried to discharge the phone till it shuts down, boot it back up again and let it die again then charge it while its off to 100% but the rating in the app hasnt changed at all. still 1750mah.
thanks again guys

Cross check with another app. But even then, I don't trust them 100% for information like battery health etc.
The back is glass (not sure which type) and has a layer of shatter-proof coating underneath. If carefully done, it is possible to remove the back cover using a suction pull on the glass. There's a video where a guy mods his back cover to make it transparent and has removed the back successfully, you can watch that for reference.
Ever sine Note 7 thing, I'm not too happy with pulling batteries out of the devices due to accidental punctures :silly: :crying:
I am not sure there is any method of healing batteries. You need to buy a new one to replace the older one.
thanks for the answer. I tried formatting the battery but the capacity didnt change and the phone dies quickly. I found a replacement back here in poland for about 40$ +shipping so in case I break the original one I'll have a replacement and slap a dbrand skin on it so it doesnt look like crap. as for the note 7 thing, as far as I'm concerned note 5 wasnt as big of a bomb (pun intended) so if done carefully I think it might be relatively safe.

Hi everyone,
I just charged my phone and the battery seems to be fatter after it was charged. I'm a little worried if this might explode or something. I opened it up and looked and the battery is cool and nothing is leaking from it but the battery looks slightly fat. This has never happened before since I got my Note. Is this normal?
I charged it using my laptops USB port when this happened. Also most of the time I charge it from the wall.
I get worried because batteries can be the main cause of device failure so I don't want to damage my phone.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
I dont think its due to charging.. Do you take it with you in bathroom when you take a shower? Or maybe you sweated while it was in your pocket and it was hot outside?..
I had a LG flip phone years ago and the battery got so fat too.. The reason I believe was that it was in my pocket when I was outside and the temperature was like 45-50 celsius..
maybe, but at the time this happened the phone had been idle and out of my pocket for hours. i'll keep close eye on this one.
thanks.

Not heard of or seen this with Mobile batteries before TBH, however, this is "common" with overcharging of standard batteries in warping the cells etc..
I'm not tech enough to explain - but good call to keep a close eye, On the plus side, they batteries can be picked up dirt cheap on eBay or similar. Fortunately I have 2 as I returned my first Note after a couple of days and had it replaced, I just didn't send em the battery back

If you have warranty then why not go to samsung service center ? Bulging of battery is not a simple issue or sth which can be ignored . As a normal battery it should not bulge , I suggest you to go to SSC and get it checked , if there is some problem they will replace it ( I guess )

You should buy new battery, battery is cheap compared to phone.
there was a guy who owned a HTC Sensation and his phone caught fire whilst he was using it! it burnt his face.
sweet dreams

Better buy an original Samsung battery from an official Samsung shop as there are many fake batteries online.....you never know if your battery is faulty or might explode. Better spend around 30-50usd on an original battery instead of being sorry afterwards.
That is simply because it got over-charged in the first case. Else might be a defect. A new battery can solve the issues. :good:
Hey guys, been having battery issues for the last 3 months with my battery hitting 50% and then 0% in minutes. I initially thought the issue was 5.0 as it never happened on 4.4.4. Many clean installs and various versions and still the issue happens. With the phone being almost 2 years old, it actually dawned on me the actual battery ? was the issue. So bought a replacement yesterday and the back panel adhesive.
Can anyone give me tips on removing the back panel and installing the battery. I have not found much info on it.
Thanks
It's fixed with a 3M double tape...sorry for my English
Thanks @ninjasoft.
I bought the double sided adhesive tape specifically for the z1, should be OK to install. It's the removal of the back panel and replacing the battery that concerns me. I understand that the waterproof capabilities will be lost. Had anyone here changed out the battery before?
check this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMa01HRF1zU
it's for changing the lcd, but in the first part they remove the back. They use a professional heater, while i doubt you have it. A normal hair dryer is ok too, i've done it, just you'll have to heat the phone a little more that in the video.

Thanks, checked out the vid. Very informative. Glad I bought the adhesive as well. Looking straight forward enough. Happy days.
OK battery successfully replaced. How should I go about getting it properly calibrated?
I use superglue after assemble back panel,
because when use 3M adhesive only, the back panel open itself when phone warm / hot while play game.
be careful with second mic hole, if not sealed properly, water can get from it

Use "battery calibration" from playstore. charge until 100%. then use normal till 1% then charge again until 100% without break (flight mode recommended).
Thanks @Alvian_P.
You need to have the phone rooted to use that app. I recently clean installed the latest Firmware 283. Can that be rooted yet?
Does Kingroot work?

some people says work with kingroot, if not use PRF tool to create preroot firmware, you can find in Sony cross device page.
btw, I press my phone like in pict when installing back cover
That's a great idea actually. Thanks for the tip
Yeah, but make sure your paper clip not on above touchscreen. Press on the egde screen.

hmm, i don't really like the idea of the super glue. What if u'll have to open the phone again for any reason, will it be possible to open the phone with heat if you put superglue?

yes may its look bad idea, but it will easy open use "electronic cleaner" like THIS, just spray on border between back cover and middle frame then use hairdryer to heat backcover. So you can easy open backcover using suction cup.
alternative rather than electronic cleaner, is a Aceton or Alcohol 90'
hope it help

Yeah, been working well after a couple of full charges and discharges, just to be sure, one occurance of the battery going form 40% and turning off when using the camera. Strange hasn't happened since.
I bought from here on eBay my battery.

Mine is coming up to 2 years old and was completely crap. Battery life was seriously hamper since going onto Lollipop. Was fine with KitKat.
I would suggest changing it for sure.
Realised that lollipop is the actual issue with battery drain. Went back to kit kat, rooted rom and usability is restored.
Hi, I too had the battery drop issue as you explained in your first post.
I replaced the battery as well.
The battery still shuts down when I use the camera sometimes also!
I'm wondering if it happens with yours on kitkat?
Battery draining
My Xperia z1 battery drains too quickly .. I think I need to replace it... My phone ? is only 1.5 yrs old .....can u tell me the mobile repair shop in bangalore... Bcoz sony service centre is asking for 24K rupee...
Hello all!
I've been very pleased with my new Nexus so far, but yesterday I noticed the back cover was loose and and had a bit of a gap near the volume buttons. Some quick googling informed me this was a known issue, and is easily RMA'd. I have also discovered there are some very nice skins from Slickwraps and from Toast which can be used in place of the back cover. I find these to be very beautiful, and will most likely use one. Knowing this, is there any useful reason to send my phone in to be replaced? Has anyone discovered a flawed battery causing the cover to lift? If so, was it obvious before removing the cover?
I would be afraid that if I didn't get the phone replaced, it would leak if you ever got around water. I think I would send it back because if you ever decide to sell it you won't get much for a phone that doesn't have a tight fitting backup cover.

Those are both good points, but they are somewhat nullified by my plans. I'm going to be removing the back cover to use an aftermarket back. I will, of course, be fully responsible for protecting it from water, and for the damage if I don't. I tend to treat any device, water resistant or not, as if it were the Wicked Witch of the West and will melt upon contact with a drop of water. I also don't sell my old phones. They are way to useful to keep around for projects and such. I still have a couple of Blackberry Storms acting as desk clocks and a Galaxy Nexus doing tattle-tail duty for my home alarm system.
Basically what I'm looking for is any indication as to an actual malfunction being the cause of the back coming unstuck. As it stands, the loose back is a head start on getting it off for an aftermarket.
I say go for it as long as the new back cover fits tight. I am a snob about having a perfect phone.

Most the skins cover the back cover so need an intact backcover or have the same problem. Will see when remove back cover if it is battery related but then most likely can't RMA as you opened the device. It a catch 22 situation.

I'm looking at the wooden covers. They're a bit thicker then the vinyl skins, and can sit flush with the frame when used without the back. They're rigid enough to do the job, though not advertised as backs, folk are reporting having success.
I am tempted to open it up and have a peek at the battery, but doing so would definitely void the warranty. That's why I was looking for any examples where a battery actually has gone bad. Though, it looks like the battery is pretty simple to replace anyway...

Does it feel swollen? Can you tell by eye? The only ones I've witnessed having a dying battery had removable battery covers, like the Storm and the old Razr flip phones. My cover is only loose on one edge, and feels very firmly stuck the rest of the way around. The phone itself is functioning beautifully, not at all like the few I've seen the the grow-a-battery of death. They usually sputtered and gave up until I replaced the battery.

If it's the battery will do the same. Will start acting up and then die. There is a thread somewhere in General I think with pics of expanding battery. Some just the backs come unglued. It is definitely a RMA situation anyway.
My Nexus 6 fell and the display broke. Not the screen but the display. The scratch's are inside. My device still works but I can't see anything and the touchscreen doesn't work.
What display/screen replacement should I buy?
I was thinking on buying this one: http://articulo.mercadolibre.com.mx/MLM-576031511-pantalla-touch-marco-motorola-nexus-6-_JM
Please check the link and tell me if it's the right thing to buy. Thanks in advance.
A pic of how it looks:
That's the right one.
That replacement has the frame too, if you want to save money and your frame is still in good condition you can just remove the existing frame from the broken screen, no need to worry about hurting the display as it's already broken so just break it loose, in pieces if you have to lol. Then just get one without a frame, just be sure to check the descriptions to be sure they include adhesive tape pre-applied or get a roll of 2mm 3M double-sided adhesive tape for $2 and do it yourself. While your at it you can also use the tape to re-secure your back cover after removing it if it needs any.
::EDIT::
Here is an example of one without a frame:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00X...eywords=nexus+6+replacement+screen&th=1&psc=1
That seller it's a $40 difference in price without the frame. Also note how the speaker grills are attached to the frame, NOT the AMOLED. Keep that in mind when taking off your broken screen from the frame. If you are unsure if you can do it and feel safer just getting it with the frame, take 10 minutes before ordering and just try to seperate the broken AMOLED from the frame, if you succeed and find it by looking at it just how the new AMOLED panel would attach to the old frame then save $40 and get just the panel, it's already broken, might as well give it a shot, if you don't think you can attach the new panel to the frame yourself after removing the broken panel, order the one with the frame. ?
Thanks guys. I've got some more questions.
What process should I follow to replace the screen, should I dissemble everything? Any video tutorial you would recommend?
And, I've noticed that the phone doesn't heat up when I charge it as it did before (I have a Turbocharger), is the device ok? Is it normal that it doesn't heats up?
It's normal to have it not heat up when charging. Mine doesn't.
Jerryrig Everything has a good teardown video you can use.
What seems weird to me is that the phone usually heated up even if i wasn't using it (I guess fast charge) but now it doesn't.
Is there a way to know if it's charging or know the battery level other than looking and the screen? Because I can't see anything.
You should let the battery completely discharge, so the device turns off. That will help to prevent electrical damage to the components when you are disassembling the phone.
Letting the battery drain to zero is bad for the battery, for one. For two, the battery will be one of the first things disconnected, thus there will be no component damage.

Typed up a long response then posted and ticket was expired lol. All I can think of right now is the phone still works, just can't see anything. Let the battery die, call the phone to see if it's dead or rings/vibrates. After it's dead plug her back up and see if she starts, can call again to check if it's in fact booted into Android. Maybe someone else can think of a better way, I take it you don't have the LED enabled for charging so that sucks. Like the previous poster said, it is not advised to let the battery drain 100%, one time however won't hurt, just don't do it repeatably. Hope you successfully get her up and running again I still have my pre-order Nexus 6, never a screen protector, just a Seidio Dilex Pro case and not a scratch on the beauty, someone needs to make a SD 835 phone with dual front facing speakers before I upgrade!

Well it's almost time to replace the battery, I've noticed lately the battery life isn't what it used to be....no point blaming software when the phone is almost 2 years old and for AU$25 for the part....it will give it a new life.
Anyone replaced theirs yet? Did you do it yourself?

please let me know what video/instructions you used and how the phone went back together. most importantly how the better performance is now.
There's plenty on YouTube. The trick is a playing card and get the glass bloody hot to touch. Once you have the card in and they glass off its simple.
The back glass just pressed on and it's back to normal. I won't know battery performance until a few charge cycles. So far it's doing ok.
You're very good: a tech in a lab shattered my glass and let air come in under the front frame. Now I have a destroyed (but working...) Note 5 with a perfect battery: it lasts so long with Nougat.
I don't know how he glued the back again but it's all shattered: I have no tools but cards and hair dryier... Will them be enough to remove the back again and replace it by myself? (I'm no good at this but if the glass is already destroyed...)
