As the title describes it my shamu no longer has a notification sound..
Little back story: I did a color change from Blue to white and had to swap over my flash ring the ribbon cable for it and my speaker and the ribbon cable for that as well. And now my shamus doesn't notify.
Weird thing is it rings fine and all other audio works and oddly as long gone as there is other audio player from any other source like watching a YouTube video it plays the notification sounds...
I've even taken everything back apart and nothing appears to be busted or messed up really in anyway very started and it sucks any insight would be great!!! Huge thanks in advanced for any help!
What version of Android you on?
I've tried a couple different roms

front speaker dosent work either ??
If you think all your volume settings are correct, then answer the following questions:
Can you make phone calls normally?
Yes - front speaker is OK
No - front speaker problem
Is your phone ringing normally?
Yes - rear speaker OK
No - rear speaker problem
Do you have a problem with specific app only?
Yes - check app settings (any updates lately?)
No, multiple apps problem - check your volume settings again
Your description sounds like you are having a software problem with the same app on different ROMs.

Did you try another music player?
If your front speaker is not working during a phone call, then it's broken. This issue though is not related with your app not playing music.

You are not getting more answers because you don't describe your problem well. You've been asked 3 times have you tried another music player... and your answer is? I have a feeling you are confused which speaker is "front" and which is "back". In 2 consecutive replies I got 2 completely opposite answers from you.
Front speaker is the tiny one with a little black mesh and it will never play any music. It's one and only purpose is to hear other party during a normal phone call. Rear speaker is the one under battery door. It's purpose is to play all system sounds (rings, notifications, etc), work as speakerphone during a phone call (only if speakerphone enabled) and play music when no headphones attached (if Media Volume is properly set, of course).

i know your confused
yes i did try other music players .. i have tried other stock roms . front speaker dosent work when i a phone call .. and the rear speaker works when incoming a call but when playing music it dosent work. if i go to settings and change a ringtone then the rear speaker works . and when in a phone call if i turn on the speaker it works .
hope this helps
OK, lets fight one issue at a time:
1. As I understand, your tiny front speaker never works. If it's correct, then it is broken - hardware issue, can't fix it with software updates/changes. Needs to be replaced.
2. Your back speaker plays ringtones and notifications, but not music in any player. Obviously, the speaker itself is OK, but something else prevents music to play on it. Could be two reasons:
a) software issue with the app(s) you are using or with media volume control settings (you said you checked this already)
b) since ringtones and notifications always play through rear speaker and never through headphones, your phone might think headphones are plugged in and this is why it never plays music through back speaker. I've seen similar issue with an iPhone. The cause was dirty headphone jack. Small resistance between ground and L/R contacts makes the phone think headphones are plugged in. This causes the same issue as yours - you hear the phone ringing, but you can't play music. If you hear the music normally through your headphones, than all you need to do is to clear very well the phone jack. If it doesn't help, than more "aggressive" cleaning is needed. If it was my phone I would dissemble it and clean the PCB thoroughly.
3. If nothing helps, than you need a new phone. There is no point to pay for diagnostic/repairs on a 3y old phone.

it was after i tried slimbean
i think your right maybe i will clean it will let you know
the tiny speaker worked but after slimbean it stopped and like spending 2 dyas on a stock rom everything worked great and again after slimbean its gone
SlimBean is not the cause of your problems. Like many other users here, I'm currently running SlimBean with no sound issues.
Tone sound on device is often working

I know this might sound off, and I could be wrong, but if all else fails read up on taking the phone apart and re-seat the ribbon for the rear speaker/vibration component and re-seat the connector for the headphone jack/ front speaker/ proximity sensor component.
Yes, it seems weird that the rear speaker seems to work for some things but not others but I had your exact problem after I dropped my phone. After re-seating the rear speaker ribbon my problem was fixed. I've been using it with no issues now almost a year after I did this.
The only reason I say to re-seat both is that I did push on the phone jack connector too so I suppose that could have fixed it, but I'm fairly certain that the rear speaker ribbon was my issue....What happens is the ribbon works itself out of its seat in an off center fashion so the ribbon ends up almost crooked as can be seen when you look at the printed lines used to ensure it has been inserted all the way.

i didnt try that but i had 3 captivates so i changed the whole motherboard to a new screen and sound works everything is fine. however when the screen of the caprtivate which had problem was inserted with a new mothrebord and now sound doesent work ? no idea why ?
Hi All,
My wife's i9305 has a really weird issue which goes like this:
Ringtones are silent - this includes when the phone is being called and selecting ringtones out of the menu
Notification sounds are silent - this includes messages received and selecting sounds manually
Youtube and other media apps work on loudspeaker without issue
Phone loudspeaker works
Normal UI clicks and sounds work fine. Includes the swipe to unlock and volume up and down beeps
I originally thought this was some kind of weird software issue as all the settings seemed fine and it was running an older version of CM10.
So I decided I'd completely nuke the phone and start from scratch with a new KK CM11 build - something I've done a thousand times before.
With the phone completely reset to default the issue is still apparent.
Without knowing too much about the hardware, is there perhaps a different speaker for the ringtones and notifications? If not, then this issue is pretty odd is it not?
Any suggestions greatly appreciated - at least before I attempt to order a replacement loudspeaker part.
Cheers,
Jordan.
*bump* - I take it that everyone is just as perplexed as I am then...
Update: Notification sounds do work OK - However when you select them manually they dont.
I am wondering if anyone else has this issue. I notice a wierd cracking issue with the WhatsApp notification sound (the ones you can't change) I then also noticed that I hear the same for the new Google Messenger app and it's unique notification sound. Watching movies or music, or any other sounds don't give this behavior. Just wondering if it is just me or any ideas? Thanks everyone!

I get this sound on some notifications once in a while. Doesn't bother me too much to be honest. I wonder why this happens.
Honestly I haven't noticed this issue but it is more than possible that if the sound is usually good on movies, music, etc and then when it gets to certain sounds it cracks, it can be a big chance that the files pitch is too high for our speaker. The speaker quality seems great and that's coming from someone who owned the HTC One M8.
Try this turn off your phone then before turning back on stick your ear to your speaker while the phone is booting up I hear like a bzzzzzzz for a moment an then it goes out completely I guess it is the speaker turning on ready for all the sounds
I have a problem with my speaker sound, while listening to any audio whether it be YouTube, Netflix, Music player etc... After about 6 minutes the sound quality changes it's as if the bottom. Speaker gets lower and the front speaker gets louder if you close the app and then try again it's fine until 6 minutes again. I have already received 2 replacements and all 3 phones have the same problem. Is anyone else experienceing anything like this?
I have the opposite problem, the bottom speaker is too loud and the front facing speaker is too quiet. I have unsuccessfully been trying to find an app to balance them with no luck.
If you have had your device for less than 14 days, I would take it back to the retailer for a replacement. As there is a chance that you were given a faulty unit. Otherwise take it to a Samsung Service Center and let them take a look at it.

You're not the only one. I made a thread about this a while back but nobody here really noticed. It still happens on my latest software update (ARJ1, September security patch). On Samsung Community there's a lot more complaints:
https://us.community.samsung.com/t5...ote9QuestionsandAnswers/page/1/thread-id/1440
Some people tried contacting Samsung but the staff had a hard time detecting it. I got mine overseas in Taiwan and can't readily communicate with them at the moment. I always get a "due to we don't understand your message" reply if I use my phone's feedback option. I did try to email them directly but the reply seemed somewhat generic like "try using safe mode". I haven't done this myself but other users have said it still occurs in safe mode.
The fact that replacements have it lead me to think it's a software bug - the bottoms speaker is supposed to emphasize bass a bit more than the top speaker but it almost sounds like the left and right speaker EQ gets swapped (even though the stereo channel polarity is still constant). When it happens the top speaker becomes bass-heavy and bottom speaker sounds bass-light and treble-heavy. It also seems "worse' in some apps than others. For example I barely notice it in music as only the bass seems to drop on the bottom speaker but on other occasions it sounds like the bottom speaker is sucked down in volume.
Really hoping Android Pie fixes it.
I haven't noticed this issue, but I did post a few days ago regarding sound skipping and corrupting on wired headphones.
I've tracked this down to the EQ not playing well with the UHQ Upscaler. If you have any EQ set other than Normal the sound gets distorted through headphones.
Maybe it's related? I know the UHQ Upscaler is disabled when playing through the speakers but the EQ isn't, do you use anything other than 'Normal' EQ settings?
It has only started on ARJ1 (Oct Security patch level) for me. I've fed it back to Sammy.
Oh, you can download Sound Assistant from the Galaxy Store and that lets you play with the left / right balance.
I didn't try Sound Assistant yet, but I forced the speaker output to mono in the phone's settings, and the problem still occurred. So the problem isn't related to the stereo imagery, but rather how each speaker is tuned regardless. Some have suggested it could be a defect in the amplifier but I think if this were the case the effect would be more permanent. I think it occurs more frequently in the ARJ1 update compared to the update before that. I don't recall it occurring in Samsung Music very often before but now it seems to happen after about 4-5 minutes. I temporarily exited the app (without closing) and played music from Poweramp, stopped, then played music on Samsung Music and it sounded normal again.
Blah - is it just me or has this issue become somewhat more easily replicated, but more inconsistent? I was watching some videos with narration, and it sometimes feels like it pans left and right at the same timepoints when I replay that section.
Also, Horizon Chase sounds pretty awful now. The music volume seems to dip out and the sound effects are too loud.
hi all after 1 week of trying i figure out how to fix the problem simply delete the file with name ((SoundBoosterParam.txt)). in the root/system/vendor/etc
you're done
You need root in order to delete the SoundBoosterParam.txt file, and I'm not comfortable rooting a $1k phone under warranty. I turned off Dolby Atmos and changed sound to mono...EQ is normal. While mono isn't the quality sound I want, this has stopped the issue. A user at https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/...thread-id/1440 though said it didn't fix his.
Like FYL21, I tried emailing Samsung but got the usual "this is another canned robotic answer that doesn't address the issue" response. So I just spent about an hour on the phone with them. After continually trying to explain the issue and being told everything to try that's been tried, I finally spoke to a manager who made note of the links to the issue on their forum. She is escalating this as an issue for the technicians to read the complaints and look into this. Maybe it'll be fixed by the time the Note 10 comes out.
That was me as well in that thread. The thing is the speakers are still tuned differently even if they are in a mono configuration - the bottom one is EQ'd for bass and the top for treble (I'm not sure if this changes if you rotate the phone). I got Android Pie but am still testing out if it happens. Some apps or videos still have brief panning at specific time points, but this might just be related to the equalization and it doesn't seem as long-term as it was before (where you had to restart the app or plug/unplug headphones to fix it). I can live with that but it's annoying when it abruptly dips on the bottom speaker and even worse for calling.
you guys should think of this phone as a sound bar.
in that type of configuration, its one device generating sound that appears as stereo even though there is 1 device and not 2 .( or more)
the position and tuning of the speakers within that bar is tuned so that it feels like stereo/multichannel.
so in the same way is the phone tuned that way. plus if you think of it, you hold your phone 90 %of the time upright. the speakers on that position are not left to right but top and bottom...
so again don't look at the position of the speakers on the phone to deduce which is the left or right speakers but as how the devixe as a whole is reproducing the feel of stereo without an array of speakers like on home cinemas or in your car.
think of it, the space between the speakers is so narrow that youd have to be a small mouse to be able to enjoy real left and right channel audio from the speakers in landscape...
anyways this has nothing to do with the audio fading out but more towards our expectation of multichannel audio and how the phone reproduces it.
Weird problem, no "media" related sounds. Alarm, calls, ringtone work perfectly
Hello, for some reason in the last couple of days i can hear no media related sound.
What's weird though is that i can hear normally call sounds, phone ringing and alarm.
The issue started while on the latest version of MIUI. I thought this was related with operating system so I installed Pixel Experience 10 (through complete wipe out, even internal storage). The problem persists there as well.
After looking around, it looks like people had similar issue when the phone mistakenly thought headphones were connected. As it turns out, this is not the case with me. (see 2nd post)
Edit #2:
It looks like it's indeed the "earphone mode" thats causing the problem. Using the aerphone mode off app I managed to get media sound playing again. The problem now is that as soon as i close the app, earphone phone turns back on. Any ideas for permanent fix are welcome.
Thanks
looking around, it looks like the phone might somehow got stuck in like "headphones connected" mode.
I've never connected in the past with any kind of headphones, but i got the charging port changed.
In any case i've tried connecting and disconnecting with Bluetooth headphones but didn't solve the problem.
I will see if i can get my hands on any type-c ones and try again.
Edit: i see there is an option to select the audio output device, and the phone is the only choice, so the headphones mode wasn't the problem
