Hello all,
I have an upgrade to use with Verizon. Currently on the S5 and can't stand the fact there's no development cause of locked BS Samsung crap. Just wondering if I should get an "older" phone like the N6 or try out the G4 (they tend to get unlocked within a couple months). Want to get away form Touchjizz and Sammy thanks to Verizon. Any comments would be appreciated!
I recently purchased the Nexus 6 on Verizon and I'm extremely happy. I also have an active Note 4 and now never use it. I'm having so much fun flashing ROMs and customizing the device (wood back covers, etc) that being 6 months old doesnt bother me. I'll wait for the next Nexus before upgrading again.
Also, this is the only device that I've purchased from Verizon that came with ZERO bloat. Literally nothing. Even AT&T crapped that up. It doesn't make great use of Verizon's Advanced Calling feature (native video calling) but who cares. VoLTE works.
Obviously get the G4. Nexus devices have subpar battery life

Dude, i have almost never seen a postive comment of you about phones in multiple forums. Why do you always endup with the wrong phones and do you even have a Nexus 6?
That said both devices are awesome but very different. The G4 has a swapable battery, external sd card support up to 2TB, a superb camera wich some find even better then that of the Galaxy S6 and a gorgeous screen. Batterylife will be a bit better than de N6`s but the N6 is a developer phone with many choices of roms, kernels, and mods too choose from. The Nexus 6 has a good screen but in full sunlight sometimes not very clear, the speakers are great, its superfluid with no lags and in daily use a very good phone to use and it kind of grows on you
I recommend the 64GB version as there is no sdcard slot and the battery is not swapable and the speakers are very good imo.
So both have things going for them, best is to play with both in real life in a shop if you can and see wich one feels best for you.
@gee2012, am I lying about the battery life?
Nexus are great besides that and the camera

I never call other users liars bro, i just noticed your name and it reminded me of the negative comments you used to post about the last years N5 i believe. But enough about that, the batttery gets me through the day and have about 4-4,5 hrs. screenontime wich is sufficient for me. Its not Note 4 and certainly not Ascend Mate 7 figures but enough for me It varies depending on settings and usage per user. The camera shoots pretty descent shots with sufficient light and lowlight with HDR+ isn`t bad either for me, but again not Galaxy S6 or even LG G3 quality.

It depends whats important to you. The newest hardware of the lg g4 or the openness of the nexus 6 software. Most devices by today's standards do not lag or show much stuttering when doing basic tasks such as texting, emailing, calling, surfing the internet, etc. It comes down to what you plan on doing with the phone. Will gaming be an option? Are you looking for a top of the line Camera? Once you figure that out, the choice becomes clear.

I think that lag is actually a very underrated issue with devices today. The G3 definitely lagged, and my S5 lagged horribly. Even the Note 4 isn't completely lag-free. However it does seem that reviewers haven't noticed any stutter in the G4, which is a good sign.
OP, one other thing to be aware of is that while the CPU in the 808 found in the G4 edges out the 805 found in the Nexus 6 the GPU in the 808 is significantly weaker than that of the 805. Otherwise I'm sure the G4 will be a great device. The camera will certainly be better than the N6's, and battery life should be comparable.

Can you link any websites showing the adreno 418 being worse than the 420? I did some fast googling and although there's not a lot of info it seems the 418 is as powerful as the 420 if not slightly more edging it out and is also made on a smaller die 20nm vs 28nm.

Thanks everyone for your input! I would be using the camera more than gaming. Only gaming I do is the occasional w/e game while I'm taking care of business lol. Nexus was thrown in here because of all the development it has right now. I might be leaning towards the G4 just with all the extras it has and the phenomenal camera and it will still be faster than my S5. I own it, and yeah it does have some lag still. Can't stand Touchwhiz anymore and the lack of development thanks to their boost in security. Not sure why the last several Nexuses weren't removable batteries. Just an OCD thing on my part as well as external storage.
Yes Samsung phones have become harder to ROM, root, etc, unless you Go for T-Mobile/international and even then its not great.
If you plan on using the camera often, take it from a Nexus 6, Note 4 user - check out the G4.
That's my suggestion, good luck in your decision

Hello,
Which is the best option?
The new Moto X will have a newer sock, probably a microSD slot and a slightly worst battery and smaller screen size.
Besides having a sock lesser optimized for 2k, Nexus 6 has amoled screen, which I think is not than power hungry and has a bit bigger battery.
Consider that both shares the same price range here in Brazil.

It is subjective, but I try.
You may also consider:
- availability of factory images;
- portability; magnet sensor n6 can't switch off;
- wireless charging; camera m-pixels;
- the great dev support here;
- good kernels / Roms N6 now available;
- the screen resolution;
- the positive N6 posts of the M-preview.

I was comparing the specs...
Processor
- Winner: M2015 Style?
N6 has the best SD 32bits out, but 808, maybe I think, is better because its 64 bits... Besides, the video processor is worse (418 vs 420 from N6).
Camera
- Winner: M2015 Style?
N6 has OIS, but M2015 has more MP... Dunno, really, which is better on real life.
Loudspeaker
- Winner: draw
Both has front stereo speakers. Dunno which has the cleanest and/or the loudest sound.
Screen
- Winner: Nexus 6
Amoled is better than TFT, and less power hungry.
Memory
- Winner: M2015 Style
M2015 Style has microSD.
Battery
- Winner: Nexus 6
It has QI charging and probably has more battery life (more mAh and amoled screen).
User experience
- Winner: ???
Will the M2015 Style have the same pure experience and smoothness than the Nexus 6, only adding the few Moto Apps?
After this comparison, I hasnt concluded anything.
Dunno how much better is SD808 than SD805... And, also, dunno if the user experience will be equal... The amoled and the probably better battery life lean me toward the N6.
i ABSOLUTELY love my nexus 6, really do. but at this point id wait for one of the new nexus thatll come out in a few months. if you like larger screened phones, theres the 5.7 inch option(all in theory, since google hasnt announced anything yet). but, if you cant wait, definitely nexus 6

A lot of the comparisons require things to be known about the Moto X that we don't have information about yet. The battery life could be phenominal, or it could suck. The camera could be amazing, or it could be overhyped and end up garbage. The speakers could be the worst speakers on a phone in years. I mean, we really don't know at this point. On that note, what if there are major flaws with the device that we dont' know about, and may not until release. Display defects, camera defects, build quality issues or software bugs that looking at a spec sheet won't tell us.
Chipset. They are similar. Unless you are a really heavy user, or a gamer there probably won't be a noticeable difference between the two. We are at a point now where many devices perform similarly even though technically one is faster. The Nexus 6 is technically faster than the Nexus 5, but they perform similarly for most of the basic tasks people would do. Same with the Moto G which has a low end processor, but it should be able to send Snapchats, Instagram, and stream Spotify just as well as any device out now or coming in the near future.
One device isn't objectively better than the other, unless there happens to be a major problem with one. They each have their own pros and cons, most are subjective at this point. Only you know which ones matter most to you, and can make the decision using that information. Both are fine devices (once again assuming there is nothing majorly wrong with the Moto X), and I think a lot of customers would be happy with either.
Personally I would pick the Nexus 6 for 3 reasons.
The display, it being AMOLED and larger are both pluses to me. I have grown to love the 6" display, the bigger the better at this point.
It being a Nexus, gives me the ability to get updates quicker than other phones as well as it being easily rootable and ROMable.
Lastly, my carrier T-Mobile in the US officially supports the N6 meaning I get band 12 and wifi-calling functionality.

Agree, it is a personal choice. It is difficult to say something about a phone that is not available yet,
In my view it is the subjective way of choosing.

Agreed. I presume battery life will be worse on M2015S than on Nexus 6, because it uses TFT and have a 3000mAh, while N6 has amoled and 3220mAh.
I dont think how could it be better, really.

I think the comparison is worthy because both gadgets aim at the same kind of user. The one which like pure android and large screens. Besides M2015S isnt already out, I think somethings are presumable.
Other things, I think that requires a clearer understanding about 32bits vs 64bits (which I dont have)... For example, I use Onenote and Evernote a LOT daily. Dont know if it will be smooth on both cellphones while I use heavy notebooks with many data on these apps.
Technically, I dont know if a 64bits processor will make such difference in that case, or if it just about a well fitted Android - which Im not sure, because it implicates in RAM usage and data processing (maybe the difference between SD808 and SD805 is so slight that even in that case, as you said, they will perform similarly).
Objectively, Im more concerned on SOT + big screen + smoothness using apps with many graphics and texts.
There's still plentiful of them from where I am, and at very attractive prices. I'm expecting the phone to last me a good 3 years. Sure the OP5 is released, but it's price is just too similar to any typical flagship phones (in my country, it's more expensive than the Huawei Mate 9 and Xiaomi Mi Mix :/ ) and the improvement is mainly in the storage and multi-core department (Idc much on the multi-core). Will you recommend it?
Hi,
OnePlus 3T is still a very capable phone. To be honest, aside from the CPU and a "better" camera there are not many differences between the two.
Anyway, for the CPU part, I think that the difference will not be noticeable in daily use. Looking on youtube at various benchmark results I can see an improvement of 15-20% percent over the 3T, which is not a very big deal.
The camera for me is not a very big improvement also. I hate the fact that it does not ofer OIS and the picture quality is not that great in low light conditions.
The design ... Well, I never liked iPhones, so in this case, why buy a phone that looks like one ?
I am going to stick with my 3T for a little more and wait to see what Nokia releases in the near future.
Hope I gave you some reasons to consider spending your money wisely on an OP3T.
Id say hell yea, as mentioned above the 5 isnt really much of an upgrade at this stage, not enough to make me jump just yet

I have purchased my Nokia 8 this March. Other than the camera, the phone has a superb quality and performance. I have found that the noise on the photo taken from Nokia 8 is rather high, and focusing on images take a little bit longer, so it is quite hard to take a quick snap if you wish to. However, such weakness can be recovered if you have installed the Google camera from Pixel. Other than that, it is a superb phone with good quality and fast update.

IT depends on the country where you live, but in most places you can get a Sony Xperia xz1 or honor v10 for the same price. Both with better standby battery life and unlockable bootloaders. The cameras of those phones are also a bit better.
Everything is great here , even the camera if you use google camera you will get very nice pictures , but the only thing i dont like on this device is the design, I like the new screen aspect ratio

To be honest, the camera is not as good as the flagship phone available in nowadays (or even at the time it released). The noise on the photo is visible at night time (sometimes even in day time). I can only say that the camera is just about average compare with the mid-tier phone.
The battery life is okay to me, but I always turn on the battery saved mode and turn off the Glance.
I hope this answers might help you to make up your decision.
I bought mine a few weeks ago and have been loving it since. I came froma Moto Z Play so I had a lot to consider before buying. First, battery life, no Snapdragon 8xx can come close to the Snapdragon 6xx series. And also stock Android experience is the best experience for me. So I'm left with Honor View 10, Nokia 8, or wait for Nokia 7 Plus.
Nokia 7 Plus will have a great battery life nut has gorilla glass 3 and no OIS.
Honor View 10 has better camera and battery life but has EMUI and a Kirin processor (even though it's a at Snapdragon 8xx level). However it does support project Treble, so if you wanna root around it should be easier.
The Nokia 8, which is good but has subpar camera and subpar battery life. But considering how small the battery is and how powerful the processor is, it does have a better battery life but would've been better if Nokia added more. And camera is fine at least better than my previous phone as I just needed some decent photo. Google Pixel camera app made it waaaaaayyyyy better.
I hope it helps you decide.
I find the battery life superb, most days i have over 70% left with moderate use or 40%'ish with heavy use without WiFi using data only.
Here in Chile it's price is way affordable than other flagships from Samsung, Sony, Motorola, LG, etc. So, having that in consideration, plus it's hardware and software is the best deal for what you get.
Battery life is great
Screen quality and brightness in sunlight also great
Sound i find it really good
Camera is good too, maybe it isn't way good at night as other flagships with lower apertures, but it gives really decent pictures. Video is good also, very good quality and stabilization is decent enough. And it's surround recording sistem is really nice.
So hardware wise is one of the best options you can get here for it's price. It's a Nokia so you would expect a sturdy phone, almost unbreakable lol.
In software you get the latest updates really quickly.
Maybe it doesn't have unlockable bootloader easily as other phones with Snapdragon SoCs, but having cutting edge updates almost same as Google pixel devices I would say maybe it's not necessary to have much development. Things I've noticed over the years is that most developments that triumphs are those that make ROMs as stock as possible.
So if you like stock Android go for it I don't thing you'll get disappointed. But if you are a camera maniatic , maybe you should consider some other device

Looks to me like its _at least_ double the Processing power, you do realise the G3 is a Quad core not Octa right? I had a G3 2 years ago, it died, but I agree EVERYTHING will be better (Except less pixels on the screen, which imo were a waste on the G3 anyway)

The number of cores is irrelevant
The cpu of the lg g3 is much faster than the note 7
And the screen is better
quad core to octa core comparison is completely irrelevant, except only when the cores in question are identical on each platform (which they are not).
the things u gain in buying a rn7/p and replacing the g3:
- build quality. u get a more recent gorilla glass version and glass back on top of plastic instead of just plastic on the g3. also gradient colours on the rn7 look quite good
- far superior soc. sd 660 (rn7) is on sd 835 performance levels, which is 3 generations ahead of the 801 on the g3. the sd 675 on the pro performs even better
- far superior battery life. u get 1000mah more battery capacity, and the 660/675 is again more efficient than the 801 due to process node shrinks over 3 generations
- far larger screen, both in terms of panel size and screen to body ratio
- usbc. also support for faster charging
- official updates. support for the g3 would have been dropped at least 2 years ago, while this still has another 3.
- ir blaster. u can control stuff like tv and aircon and is a gimmick that people will actually use
the only things I see that u miss from the g3:
- 1440p screen, but on a phone with bezels and 5.5" screen the difference between qhd and fhd is negligible
- ois
personally I'd recommend u to get the non pro rn7, as it is global unlike the pro, which means it is easier to procure, and (at least in china) the pro costs half as much more than the non pro but you don't get a lot more phone.
Cool
But does the sd660 like sd835 in terms of performance?? Really?
how outdated is your info? :silly:
gone are the days when the 8xx series was your only hope of smooth performance and the 6xx series was a big compromise. go look up geekbench or antutu scores, you'll see the sd 660 catching up to the sd 835 while handily beating sd 820/1 devices. the sd 675 matches the 835 in multicore. both of which are adequate in day to day usage.
Mmm
I'm not in any way capable of speaking in such a competent manner as the one before me.
But I can tell you this.
My wife USED to have an LG g3 (she now has an LG g4 that was mine)
The g3 now passed to my kid...
And when she saw how the r5plus (RIP) worked and now the new rn7 I bought.. she wants to change the LG g4 to a rn7 (or r6 pro...purely for the dual selfie )
There's no comparison. At least not in a "real day by day" use.
Having a battery that goes a full day with no worries it's incredible. A huge screen to see Netflix or wtvr... Gestures. Updates. Rounded screen borders and "cooler" form factor/colors
And it really feels smooth.
So, they give you the specs on the other post. I give you the knowing of having use them both (well... The g4 actually, and was better than the g3... )
And I couldn't be happier making the switch. And planning on doing the same with her phone as soon as we can.
Hope it helps.
Cool
Thanks!

The number of cores is irrelevant
The cpu of the lg g3 is much faster than the note 7
And the screen is better
Click to collapse
I had an LG G3 the phone is not bad but the note 7 is better, it is more fluid than the G3
